Yep, I've done it, and more than once or twice too. I've bought cars and appliances without him too. He really doesn't care about that kind of stuff.

DH and usually don't make any large purchases without consulting the other.

Maybe THAT's why I haven't had any new furniture in 10 years.:rotfl:

I wouldn't buy it without my DF (soon to be DH) present.

I value his opinion too much! Plus we like doing that type of thing together. :goodvibes

Yes. It used to be no, but I changed my ways bec they didn't work. Or rather, it didn't work for me to always include him in the decision-making.

1. It can take my dh years to make up his mind and we have had situations where our furniture is in tatters, but 5 years later he still can't find anything he likes. We have that situation right now with our dining room chairs. We bought them cheap 22 years ago and they look like total crap. I would be embarrassed to have anyone over to dinner. But he has an objection to every single chair ever made. I am so done with this. I am going out and buying new chairs soon and that's that.

2. He will argue incessantly for years about choices and we will finally come to a compromise, but then once it gets into the house he never notices it any more. So I've compromised and not gotten what I want and then it's not like he actually notices it once it's in the house. It's all about the process of arguing. Twice, once the items have arrived, I have HATED them, absolutely HATED them and one time I mentioned how much I hated the couches that were supposed to be eggplant ( his choice not mine) but came out purple and he said, "What purple couches?" OMG, here I am aggravated every minute by these purple couches and he couldn't even remember the color? I am so done with that too.

So, IMO, he has forfeited the right to have an refusals on furniture/decorating choices.

I wouldn't buy "major" pieces like living room sets, but I did buy a recliner once-for him on Valentines day. I had taken over the only one we had, so I got him one.

Absolutely, especially for single pieces that we have already discussed.

I bought him a recliner for Christmas one year, so he couldn't be present for that, since it was his gift.

I've bought smaller pieces of furniture...ie a couple of "occasional" tables) without him.

Large or expensive pieces we always choose together. Actually, DH is a big tall guy, so I like him to come along just so I am sure the furniture will be comfortably sized for him.

I "usually" tell him beforehand if I plan on purchasing something large, but I have no problems picking things out myself. And if I would happen upon a really good sale for something like furniture, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase it without him.

Except for a house and car (and even that is a grey area) I don't feel the need to clear purchases with DH. He usually doesn't have much of an opinion anyway, so it would just be a wasted effort.

DH has promised me a recliner.

Yet... he won't get off his keester and go with me to get one. :confused3

Tonight I was out with a friend and we decided to go searching and I picked one out. His phone was dead, so I couldn't get ahold of him.

I didn't buy it, but I was tempted. I'd rather him be there because he drives a truck and that way I can take it home that day. ;)

Would you have bought it? Knowing DH said you could get one?
My friend was shocked I was okay with buying it without him there. :rotfl:

Heck yes,
Not only would I go without him, since dh hates to shop for any thing he would probably whine the entire time. I think he does it to get out of shopping.

I have bought cars without DH so yes, I have bought lots of furniture without him.
