Would this annoy you or am I overreacting?

Last night at the dinner table, John-Cole informs us that he has a basketball game today. Well okay a little short notice but not that big of a deal. Well then he informs us that the game is in Indianola (about 45 minutes away) and its at 4.

1. There was no note and no phone call from the coach about the game.
2. People work! How in the world are the kids going to get there.

John-Cole says well the coach said if we needed a ride to give him a call. Well I hardly know this coach, he never has taken the time to meet the parents unless we asked him a question outright.

Since I'm a stay at home mom I am going to take about 8 of them this afternoon because their parents work! This is fine with me because I love the kids, but I'm just a bit pissed at the coach!

Number one he should have sent a note home at least at the beginning of the week!! Either that or he should have called us! There are only 10 players so its not like it would take that long!

I called the school and they say "oh yes theres a game!" Well duh!! These kids are only 10 and 11 does it ever occur to anyone that some planning ahead on the parents part might be called for?????

I don't know I'm just really annoyed....am I overreacting?????

I don't think you're overreacting. I'd be annoyed too. BUT are you sure there wasn't a notice sent home? Maybe JohnCole lost it or misplaced it. Or heck, maybe you tossed it aside? (I've done that more than my fair share of times.) :D

Why didn't they give you a schedule? I'd be annoyed too.... I don't like spur of the moment things. I'd speak to the coach and see if you can get a schedule for the rest of the games.

Not over reacting at all. I would be a little concerned about a coach I had not met who wants to "take the kids" somewhere too.

Don't think you are overreacting at all. These kids are 10 and 11!!!! Someone should have at least sent a note home.

Would be funny if most of the kids couldn't make it and the coach wouldn't have enough players.

Maybe you could suggest that he let the parents know ahead of time because you ended up having to bring almost everyone on the team.

Good thing you were available.

This is a school team? not a rec league? If it's a school team, I don't understand why the SCHOOL isn't taking them. It seems to me a bus should be transporting these kids. I also don't understand why there wasn't a schedule. And if there isn't a schedule out - I'd make sure he understood there'd better BE a schedule for the future. I'd definitely call the coach with both of these questions. Is this his first year or something?

Thankfully, well according to J.C. anyway, this is the last game of the season. I intend to ask the coach myself today.

J.C. has "not given" me notes more times than I can count, but according to him the coach didn't even mention it to them until yesterday at practice. The way I'm reading it is the school just lets the coach do his thing which in itself is annoying. If its done through the school then the office should have a schedule etc. not just say "Oh yes theres a game:rolleyes: "

The girls coach, on the other hand is wonderful! I'm hoping that next year we will have a different coach.

Oh and another thing that annoys me (just because I'm opinionated:p :p ) but the boys played a team a few weeks ago from a public school. I would say that 90% of the boys on the public school team were black. Well all of our boys are white.....well the little black boys ran all over our boys. It was actually funny....I started telling J.C. to watch the way the other team played...LOL! Anyway those kids from the other school were so nice and well mannered and just downright GOOD BASKETBALL PLAYERS!! Really good!! Well after the game the boys were all talking among each other. The boys from the other school and our boys. They were even giving our boys suggestions and our boys were listening because of how good these boys could play.

Well our coach came out of the locker room, looked at the court, rolled his eyes and LEFT!! Never shook the hand of the other teams coach, never told the boys good job, or the other team good job. That really really got under my skin.

Can you tell I'm annoyed today??????

you kick the coach tonight when you see him. He sounds like a winner!!!

Now as for the team - why don't they have a bus to take the kids to "away" games??

Sounds like a disorganized jerk to me. I'd be irritated, too.

I think the school thinks there aren't enough kids to use the bus for:rolleyes: Stupid if you ask me!

Now that I think about it, the coach is what annoys me!! I don't know if hes racist or a bad loser or what but those boys the other day deserved to be congratulated by our boys and their coach certainly deserved to be congratulated. Those boys played their hearts out and then went and tried to HELP our boys! How much nicer can you get!

Kicking sounds like a good start...LOL! Well I'm off to get ready. I think I'm definatly going to speak to the coach today.

You are not overreacting. We are having a lot of that this year from dd's teachers. Take tonight for an example, now granted we are only 5 minutes from the school but....., the kids have to be there in regard to their science fair and history fair projects and there is an open house for new/prospective families. As of yet, we have no clue what time the kids need to be there and when they asked yesterday the teacher wasn't sure but they "needed to be there before their displays are thrown away". HUH???? So what time is that????

It's been a whole issue - permission slips for field trips not coming home in a timely manner, info for bake sales not coming home in a timely manner (one was simply not doable for me but these kids are expected to bring something so I sent the money that would have been made if dd would have provided something with a little note saying - I work and have other nightly meetings, some weeks worse than others and a little bit more notice would be extremely helpful. It was a point that the night before they were to bring I didn't even have time to go to the store - it just was impossible. But I would have had time over the weekend to get something baked and ready - we also have to package and mark everything ourselves).

Oh that reminds me to, I was also told (through a note though) last night that I have to have a baked good at school by the time I pick J.C. up tomorrow! They are getting cookies baked from Wal-Mart...LOL!

Well off to the game! Update yall later!

That's about what I do too anymore Beth - WalMart or Jewel (grocery store) or nothing sometimes.

Tony - I think that J.C. is in a private school and generally private schools don't or can't afford their own busses. My dd goes to a private (parochial) school and we are allowed to utilize the district busses for transporting kids in the morning and afternoon to and from home but we have to pay to use them for other school activities (sports, field trips, etc.) In order to help keep costs down and not charge it on tuition or even charge alot for sports fees, the parents are suppose to find a way for their child to get to and from their prospective activity. Parents do volunteer to drive for field trips and generally the Athletic Director will make sure parents will be available to drive for games.
