I should have called my mom before I posted the update this morning!!!! He's up, he's BEEN up since late last night/very early morning. This went so well they let him wake up naturally, but kept him intubated (sp?) for a while. He was making requests this morning with writing notes! They have removed one of his 3 IV's. They took him of intubation (sp?) (YUCK!) this morning and have removed his catheder (sp?) a little while ago! AND they are moving him from ICU to a regular room within an hour or 2! He might go home this weekend!!! I kept asking my mom "are you SURE these people know what they are doing?" LOL There was less scar tissue than they thought, so that helped the surgery a lot. He told the nurses when he went in yesterday that he likes to break records, and today he keeps telling them "I TOLD you I'm a record breaker!" hehe. My mom sounds SO good! I spoke with her for about 15 minutes, before she wanted to get back in his room (the ICU rooms don't have phones and they had to patch my call through to a different phone away from Michael) Peter (my step-father) went home to call his family in Denmark to give them updates and return everyone calls and he's on his way back to the hospital, probably already there now)
I'm just so excited how well he's doing! My DH says "Did he have open-heart surgery or his tonsils out?" LOL
I'm going to call back this afternoon/evening and hopefull I'll be able to get a chance to speak directly with him

That is awesome news! It's amazing how quickly they let you go home these days after this kind of surgery! I remember my uncle had this done back in the 70;s ( I WAS VERY YOUNG) and he was in the hospital for 2 months!! Continued prayers for a speedy recovery!

I finally got some photos so I thought I would post a couple of them. He is currently scheduled to go home on Monday!

And just to let you all know, he has been very worried about responding to everyone that sent him a card, I told him no one expected him to write them all. But what we are going to do is I will be posting a message from him here on the boards, once he's well enough to put something together, because he really does want to thank everyone. He opened most I think the night before, and both my mother and stepfather think it REALLY helped with his attitude! And even my step-father, who isn't overly religious by any stretch, said "I think all those prayers helped his surgery go so well" And don't even get me started on the lessons about the kindness of strangers and all and the timing of all this, it will get me crying again! He still has some cards to open, too!
I think what I'll do when he's ready to post something to you all, I'll make a seperate thread, that way I'll be able to print any replies and fax it to them, without having all my ramblings in there.
Anyway, here are the pics, the first one was taken the day after his surgery and the other was 2 days.
