Worth it to try to ride 7DMT standby at RD?

Post at easywdw from today, makes it seem like a fool's errand to try to ride 7DMT at rope drop, even if you start off lined up at front entrance at the welcome show. Seems not worth the hastle to fight the crowds to at best have a 20-30 min wait.

I have the luxury of riding twice anyway with FP+ and child swap, but I was curious to see if others have the same bad experience. Maybe it will be worth it come late Aug/Sept when crowds die down.

Anyone ride 7DMT at RD and have a minimal wait (without a pre-opening ADR). Better yet, anyone manage to pull it off with young kids in tow without extreme stress?

Think I'll scheule by Mine train FP+ for 10am-12pm range and hit other stuff like PPF, etc in the first hour.

Its been two days. I think if you give it more time yo'll be able to make a better strategy, but post summer crowds in Aug/Sept will almost asuredly be different.

I rode it opening day from rope drop. Was toward the back of the crowd by the entrance to MK. We went straight to Seven Dwarfs and got on with about a 20 min wait. Pretty easy if you walk fast and head straight there

I hope to ride it at rope drop on MK EMH. I'd like to have a little bit of a line to see the queue area. Thought we might FP it again for later in the day.

We got to the park at 750 and didnt enter the park until 820(huge crowds and some sort of mess with admissions). We hoped to ride 7Dwarfs but the line stretched all the way back to Dumbo and the ride didnt open for emh!!! To make matters worse after riding a few other rides(pooh,peterpan and Haunted mansion-thats all we could manage in over 1hr) we went back to see what line looked like and heard that it wasnt going to open until after 10am. that means folks at front of the line would likely spend over 2hrs on line and with the fp+ holders now lining up it maybe closer to 3hrs in line for those at the front of standby line. After over 50 trips to wdw this may have been my last. Totally disgusted by Disney's absolute control of my vacation. The days of hitting emh at mk and doing all of fantasyland and most of tomorrow land by 10am appear over. One other thing, I am not convinced that only those staying at disney resorts were the ones at emh. The crowd was just too large I have been to wdw in july(4th), august, Easter, and other major heavy travelled times but this was much more crowded than any of those times.

I think it would be worth a try if you can't get a FP+ for it. The FP+ queue bypasses all the interactive elements if that is something you are interested in. As Josh recommends, be among the first hundred or so people at the park though. I also noticed, the wait times seem to taper a little after the first two hours but that is likely a factor of the ride being brand spanking new.

End of school is one of the busiest times, even on property. It's gotten worse since Disney ended Grad Nite at WDW. Now so many schools and seniors in general book during the last week and book the resorts as well. Couple that in with New Fantasyland and the opening of a new E-Ticket and you have a mess on your hands.

I've been at end of May, July 4, New Year's Eve and just about every other time (I've regularly attended since I was a kid - my first visit I remember was in 1983 and I've been well over 200 times - can't keep track anymore). End of May, beginning of June is up there with 4th of July as the worst, especially since Grad Nite ended. The only reason I plan on visiting is to ride the new coaster. Other than that, I take the summer off and come back in September when it's cooler and less crowded.

Wednesday (opening day) was our last park day for our trip. We had a FP to ride it around 11 but decided we would try RD anyway to get in more than one ride. We were completely off to the side and nowhere near the front at RD (We got to MK at about 8:20), but followed the crowds once we were let inside (early, actually). We kind of weaved around slower moving people and stayed to the outside right of the mass walking in that direction. We ended up getting filtered right into the queue and rode the ride with a less than 5 minute wait. We got off the ride at 9:03, looked at the wait time and saw 90 minutes It was crazy! It is doable to ride at RD, I think, just get to MK well before opening and head right back there with everybody else.

Normally, the ride will be open for EMH. There was an issue that day. The ride had opened and then closed due to a tech difficulty.

We rode yesterday without a fp. We stalked it all afternoon. Wait time was generally posted at 100 minutes then it was down for several hours (they were working on a brake on the track). It took us 47 minutes from entering line (it was over by tea cups) to on ride but it was a lucky break. We happened to be walking by when it opened back up around 8pm. When we got in line we asked a CM if she had any idea how long it would take and she said 1 1/2 hours. Thankfully, she was really wrong.
