Worst View at a DVC resort - has to be BCV?

It wasn't until I got home from our first stay and started poking around on some maps did I realize just how close that road came to the end of the larger wing at BCV. It almost touches it. We had a nice first floor pool, or should I say canal, view room. We enjoyed it. However, I'm wondering if those in room 252 enjoyed theirs.

Last October we had the last room down the hall, a dedicated two bedroom, on the top floor Epcot view. We loved it and never had a problem with road noise.

We were at BCV the day it opened, and I had requested "ground floor." I figured with two little ones it would just make life easier. We were assigned to #159 (I still remember!) and I recall going into the room and looking through the beautiful patio doors to THE ROAD! EEEEW! I agree with OP... The road seemed unbelievably close and I felt like I was back home again in Bayonne NJ, where I grew up, and where traffic was always at your toes.

I went back to the lobby and begged to be relocated. Didn't care about the $25. All I could think about was my kiddos getting out of the room and getting FLATTENED by a Disney Bus! They did move me, and we got a great pool-view room. Now I know to be careful at check-in and to say "No road view, PLEASE!"

What DVC needs to do is build a sacrificial unit at the end of a long exposed hallway, surrounded by a service road, near a swampy canal, with a dumpster right under the balcony and in plain view of golfers relieving themselves.

Then, as long as they never rent it out, no one will complain about the room they end up with.
Careful what you wish for, rinky - that may be the room where "fed-up" CMs assign "naughty" DVC members :rotfl2:

Although the trend seems to be that the road doesn't bother a lot of people, I'm so glad someone else feels as I do, and doesn't like the "road view". So many people say how the road noise really isn't bothersome with the balcony door closed (I agree). However, I love to sit on my balcony in the morning. Last year I was in #461. Beautiful view of Epcot-with the door closed-but I found the traffic to be too distracting. I absolutely love the woods view-I wonder how many people are saying "What? She likes to see a bunch of trees?" But I guess that's good-at least we're not fighting over the same rooms. You can all have your Epcot/road views.

I stayed in that same room. We didn't spend a lot of time on the balcony, and I do remember some road noise, but don't recall that it was too offensive.

I would still rather have the BCV road view than in a couple of buildings at OKW that open in back to the main road - the ones down by South Point or something like that.

But well, most of the time I'm just happy to be there, so being anywhere is better than in Maine when it's in the single digits!

Count me in here too! We live in a very quiet country home in Upstate NY and do not like road noise at all. In fact it keeps us up at night. We just are not accustomed to that. Our stay at the BCV had a beautiful view of the quiet pool, 4th floor. I enjoyed sitting out on the balcony in the mornings and watching the ducks enjoy the pool. I was VERY surprised by the rooms on the road. DH and I both said that is not a location we would want to have. I guess it's all up to your own personal preference.

We have been to the BCV about 6 times now and have been lucky enough to get that road view that we requested all 6 times. I don't think I would want a lower floor view, we have been on the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors and had beautiful view of Spaceship Earth and Illuminations. I would sit out on the balcony during the day and read a book every single day and in the evening we would come back to our room give the kids a bath, and then let them watch the fireworks from the balcony before puttin ghtem to bed.

As far as road noise goes I found it to be less at BCV then some units at OKW that are near Buena Vista Drive. Mainly because these units are near the traffic intersection and the noise of the buses starting and stopping was horrible and they run really late going to PI. You can't see them, but you can certainly hear them.

I've stayed at BCV twice in a studio. The first time I got room 375 and the second was Jan 2005 in room 275. With the second visit on the lower floor I had a SPECTACULAR view of Illuminations (thanks to the hurricanes). The trade off was that it was too cold to swim that half week. The first time I was disappointed with the road and then was happy to discover I had an excellent view of the canal because my room was on the bridge. The cars and busses weren't particularly frequent or particularly noisy and I got to watch the amphibious life in the canal.

So I'd be happy to take those rooms any time. On the other hand I would not be happy with a first floor room at any resort except maybe OKW...however BCV roadview on the first floor would not be my choice. Then again I don't choose BCV for the view outside the window.

PS. Wilderness Lodge has an interesting noise problem that I bet most people don't notice. If someone is doing the Richard Petty driving experience you can hear the whine quite clearly from what I guess is the woods view villas. I'll take road noise any day over that.

Let me settle this once and for all:

All of the views at BCV and VWL stink. You do not want to stay there. Please make your reservations at one of the other resorts.

Think of it, it would be much better to vacation with a view of that beautiful clown, the wonderful golfers (perhaps you could pick up some tips on how to improve your handicap), or the great view of DTD. Take it from me. Stay away from BCV and VWL.

This has been a public service announcement. Carry on.

Oh, and if you have to book at those two resorts, please try not to do it when we're trying to book our reservations ;).

We own at BVC, we stay at BVC, we love BVC

There is no question BVC does not have the views that other DVC resorts have. The ones closest to the road on the first would be the worst views.

We'll attempt to remember to note that while we are enjoying our wonderful stay at the resort looking out our balconey at the Dunes Cove pool. Actually, we probably won't bother.........

It isn't really a "service road", it is the road that goes around the epcot resort area. Just take a right out of the parking lot (instead of going towards the yacht club and the dolphin) and you will find yourself winding around to the boardwalk. It's a handy way to get to that gas station, I guess.

I wonder if the rooms that are closer towards the parking lot (farther away from the beach club lobby) have a worse view than the ones that are closer to the lobby. We've stayed in bcv three times, twice with the view towards epcot, but in a room between the lobby and the part of the building that goes out 90 degrees (I don't really know what to call that, but maybe you know what I mean). I didn't notice the road at all, but I did notice epcot. I wonder if the room is beyond the part that goes out 90 degrees towards the parking lot if the view has more road. I ask that because I think the road goes down under a tunnnel, iirc, to go under the water that links to epcot, and I think that closer to the beach club the road may be more out of view. If so, this may be why some people say they don't notice it and others say they do.

One time we were coming back from epcot through the international gateway, and we decided to just go straight to the car to go off property to get something, and I remembered that I had parked at the very end of the parking lot, so I decided to go see if there was a way to walk to the parking lot around the side of the villas. They didn't make it easy, and we ended up walking along the road right before we got to the parking lot. There is this weird egg shaped plot of sidewalk beside the villas on that end. Can't imagine what that is for, but it would be fun for tricycle races or something. Also, you have to go around a walled off area for dumpsters (the door was open so we just went through it; I think that is where we ran out of sidewalk but I don't remember).

Oh heck, I forgot what point I was trying to make by telling that. I think it was something to do with the proximity of the road. Oh, one other thing is, after the hurricanes a whole lot of the trees between beach club and epcot are down, and that might make it worse. Anyway, I think it may be more noticible from villas that are closer to the parking lot and further from the lobby, but that's just my belief.

Anyway, the beach club sucks and nobody should stay there.

Ya, even though the resale points are the highest of the DVC resorts and it can be the hardest to get in. Don't go there, all those people are wrong.

I recall seeing a post showing the location of all BCV rooms and types with corresponding views...Can someone provide a link?

Thanks

(It may have been provided by Webmaster Doc if I recall)

I haven't stayed at BCV, only the resort part. We did have lake view but never really sat out there. Having seen the location of the villas, I agree with the people who said they'd rather have pool views. We are never really in our rooms during illuminations, so that would not matter to us. I'd rather see pool water than a road and that huge Soarin building. I'm glad to know pool view isn't as popular as "Epcot view". Maybe we have a chance of getting it some time in the future. :)

While you all know I lurve SSR :cheer2: there's a pretty nasty view there. Our first trip home last May, we had a 2nd floor Studio in Bldg 1 (the first to open) that faced the Carriage House. The actual view, however, was of a swampy canal, complete with corrigated metal "dams" and algae-covered water. Being a "given lemons, I'll make lemonade" kind of guy, we did enjoy watching the birds that swam/flew around that area, but it wan't very pretty to look at....

I think I stayed in this exact studio! It was my first DVC visit too. But it was just DH and I for an anniversary trip and while we were watching the sun set over the Carriage House, and I was admiring my new diamond anniversary band while being thankful 3 little voices weren't begging me for food or drink or entertainment, I hardly noticed the algae. LOL

We arrived there early evening on the Sunday after Hurricane Charley and we were just so darn happy to be there, the view didn't bother me. But it really had to be one of the most lackluster views at DVC. Don't forget to add in the 2 large parking lots that were included in the swampy canal view.

Yeah, nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded.
