Worst Accident ever seen at park

In November, when we were stayed at The Boardwalk for the Wine and Food Festival, a guy died playing that boxing video game in the ESPN Club (the little store and arcade next door).

He was in his early 40's, a firefighter from New York. :(

WDW is such a big place that so many people visit that you will have your share of natural cause deaths. I have heard there have been many of those over the years probably due to higher heat levels, lots of exercise and exertion and sometimes heavy eating and drinking. The accidents are the ones that are really sad, but accidents can happen everywhere. They have an excellent reaction team to these kinda things so that most incidents are not even known.

This past year didn't a guest at the GF commit suicide by drowning himself in the lake?

If I remember correctly it happened early last April when my family was there. We had heard that him & his wife had an argument after a few too many drinks & he went swimming in the lake. I don't know if he intentionally drowned himself or not though. This was all heresay.

Back in 1996 (I think) when my DD twins were 4 we went to WDW. They had loved Star Tours & Body Wars. Well, upon our return I remember hearing that a 4 year old girl that was there the week after us had died on Star Tours. When they went to exit the ride she was unresponsive. I never did find out what caused her death, but it was so sad & I just hugged my girls over & over again.

When we were at WDW this was quite a few years ago they found a dead man at PI!! That was pretty gorry. (Im very grateful we were there that night)

also on another trip there was a kidnapping at either one of the parks or hotels (I cant remember which) it turned out to be a custody thing but still rather scary

After this we noticed alot more security around the hotels (I guess it was at a hotel)

There was that boy at Disneyland thats all i knew.... he got out before thunder mointain ended. I dont know how he pulled that off.

and this past fall the man that was found in the seven seas lagoon.

A young boy drowned in the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon a few years ago. He was with a group and couldn't swim.

We saw a Davey Crockett canoe sink. This was in the early 80's I believe. No one drowned but it was pretty amazing to see it occur. Most people waded to shore. I have pictures somewhere.

I don't know if this has been posted yet or not, but my sister used to work at WDW through the college program and told me about how the guy got decapatated on space mountain because he tried to stand up in the ride. I always duck a little more than usual on that ride, now knowing that information and not knowing where the rails are coming.
The other is when an old man dropped his sunglasses in the Journey into Imagination ride in between the moving cars and when he bent down to pick them up, got his hand stuck and crushed his hand.

From reading all of the above posts, i can now understand the importance of stressing the safety messages on the rides.

I know that on some occasions i have thought ....

"what stupid people would stand up, have arms/ legs/whatever hanging out of cars whilst ride is in motion etc, etc................."

But from reading some of these posts, I can clearly see that people still do not pay attention to the sfarety broadcasts.

As for Disney trying to keep hush-hush about horrific events such as these, in my opinion it is only to keep their excellent reputation record with the public, and also to shield their guests from reality within the magical atmosphere of *the world*

I heard last year a CM jumped off the Contemporary and plunged to his death on the monorail line...yikes.
On the smaller end of the scale, a girl right in front of me slipped on those steps going down to the line for Splash Mountain and broke her ankle! A couple of CMs had to carry her off. It was wet and very slippery, so beware on rainy days.

Jeez I can understand why Disney would keep stuff like this under wraps. I never realized how many accidents have happened! The only one I heard about was the man crushed on Splash Mountain.

Now I know why the skyway closed down.

Anyone hear of something on the Winnie the pooh ride? When we were there on December 26 (in the evening) it was closed and EMT's where all over someone in one of the cars...

I just remembered something that happened to me on a ride a couple years ago. A couple of years back, my friend and I were riding on Big Thunder Mountain, and our safety bar didn't catch. We signaled to a cast member when the ride was taking off, and they just let us go.

We held on to that bar and held it as close to our bodies as we could. My friend and I are both coaster freaks, and that was probably the most horrifying ride we ever had. We mentioned it to a cast member when we got off the ride, and they acted like it was no big deal. But if we hadn't been aware of it, or if we had been on the ride with a child, I hate to think what could have happened.

Since then, I always give safety bars and seat belts an extra hard tug when I get on a ride.

I was there last April when the man was found in the lagoon outside of the Grand Floridian...what a sad story that was :(

Also, I was there in April of 2001 when a CM (dressed as Mickey in Fantasmic) fell from the upper platform during the first show of the evening. A medi-vac helicopter flew in, what a horrible night that was...

I thought of a third incident also, but I can't remember it now...

I remembered....
A couple years ago when I was waiting to get on one of the buses, a child got stuck in the hydraulic closing doors. It was one of the buses that was double-length, so like one bus pulling another (know what I mean? I haven't seen one at the park since then) Anyway, the kid was stepping up into the bus and the door shut on him, it was the most awful scream :( However, the doors do have emergency stops on them, and he was fine...just very scared.

In DL there was a child that got out (or fell out) of the car in Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin and was run over by one of the cars.

Didn't a young girl fall out of a boat on It's a Small World at WDW a few years ago, and was crushed between the track and the boat?

I find it interesting that in 90% of the cases somebody "heard about it" but very few have witnessed anything.
Also, why would someone start a topic like this?

why?
because Disney is a great place to go to , however you never here anything about the bad things that happen there and what is covered up.. Just looking to see wat people have heard and there experiences in a park. For every good there is a bad.

Why do people stop to look at a car wreck?

Morbid fascination.

This is a morbid and disturbing topic and I'm not sure I understand what it has to do with either "Theme Parks Attractions and Strategies" and/or "Trip Planning."
