Hi!

We have always stayed at OKW. We love it there and it is the only place DH wants to go to. Well after months of nagging and pleading ;) he said okay. We waitlisted and it came through!

Now I'm worried. I love sitting on the balcony at OKW and watch the golfers while sipping my cup of tea. We like the condo like setting where we park our car out front to bring our groceries in and out.

I think I'm most concerned that DH will not like it. I think DS's 13 and 14 will enjoy it. I've just always wanted to stay there.

Can someone ease my mind please!

Deb

I'd miss OKW too, but VWL is lovely as well....especially in winter.

You didn't say what month you were traveling, but the Pool at Beachclub is Awesome! The Boardwalk is bustling with activity and Cape May's Restaurant is one of our favorites. I am not a Beachclub owner. So this is from a outside looking in view. We have stayed at the Yacht Club and I just could not get over how pretty everything was at BC. There was an artist in the lobby doing chalk portraits. I gave her ,a wallet size picture, of our grandchildren to have a portrait done. When I received it in the mail, it was as if my grandchildren, had been sitting in front of her. The wallet was a Christmas picture and I had her change it to Blue's. It is just beautiful. I think you are going to love your choice! There is always something going on on the Boardwalk! The Restaurants on the Boardwalk are some of the BEST, in my opinion.

You know your DH, I don't, but he agreed! I'm sure he'll take it in his stride if it's not his cup of tea! It's a great resort!!!

Self-parking at BCV is the best of the non-condo like villas, it's very convenient, and there's even an elevator located at the parking lot end.

You will enjoy other things about BCVs. If you are an Illuminations fan, you'll like walking back to your resort. You'll enjoy the pool (your kids will love it). Walk over to the Boardwalk and watch the street preformers - if you are in decent shape - rent a surrey bike. Take you cup of tea out to the beach. Enjoy the proximity of all those restaurants (I know OKW is lovely, but it is so nice to have all the Epcot area restaurants - and the MGM restaurants - within walking distance). Go to Jellyrolls or the ESPN club one evening.

And if you don't like it, you'll have learned you really do like the condo feeling and will continue to stay at OKW.

You will at first feel the room is very small compared to OKW. After you get used to it (It really is spacious but a bit smaller, including the porch) you will be thrilled to be staying at this resort. The amenities and location makes for a wonderful trip to Disney. We own at both and stay at both as they each have great attributes. Enjoy your stay in this sought after resort.

Give it a try, it may be your new cup of tea! :)

We love trying out the different DVC's b/c they all have different but wonderful qualities about them. Even though you enjoy the ease of having the car parked out front at OKW you may also enjoy the ease of walking over to Epcot, the Boardwalk and boating to MGM and leaving the car behind. I bet your kids will love SAB! You all might enjoy the different restaurants the whole Epcot area resorts offers.

This is what I was going to say. There probably will be that initial "Gee, these rooms are small" reaction that many OKW regulars have when "straying" ;) from OKW.

But if your family is like mine, we really enjoy staying at other DVC resorts from time to time. It's one way that regular trips to WDW stay fresh and exciting for us and help avoid "WDW burn out".

Be warned though....such straying from a home resort has been known to induce severe cases of add-onitis and are often quickly followed by visits to the resale market web sites! :)

I agree with Niagara and Granny in regards to the size difference of the villas. That will be the first thing that hits you when you walk into the villa. It is less spacious than an OKW villa, including the balcony. But what you give up in space, you will more than make up for in other ways. The location of the Epcot resorts is fantastic and the views from these resorts is awesome. The convenience to parks, restaurants, fireworks, nighttime entertainment, etc., from the Epcot resorts is the best on property.
BCV is a beautiful resort and it has the best pool on property. You kids are at a great age for SAB. We just love sitting by SAB on a beautiful sunny day looking across the water at the boardwalk and watching the Friendship boats come and go, while we enjoy a treat from Beaches and Cream. It is true WDW vacation magic. :wizard:
BCV are set off from the main hub of the BC/YC resort so it tends to be more quiet and secluded. This should appeal to your DH.
Go and try the resort, it is truly wonderful.
Have a great trip!

Request 5th floor Epcot view. We sat out on our balcony and watched (and heard) Illuminations every night.

We just left the Beach Club on Sunday (we're now splitting our stay between Vistana and OKW).
Even though we didn't stay at the Villas, from what we could tell, some of the views looked nice. But some faced the circular check-in driveway which I don't think I would like at all. It was soooo congested when we were there......taxis, cars, ME busses, DCL busses.....constantly. All those exhaust fumes. I was really suprised some of the balconies for the Villa rooms were that close to that. There were some nice views, but we also saw some face a small road in the back of the resort. It was quieter there than the circular driveway area, but still not too special. If you could get a pool view or an Epcot view then those looked very nice.
My kids do not like the menu options at either Spoodles or Flying Fish----a little too eclectic and fancy. My kids are teens and they did like Cape May where we just ate on Sunday. Beaches and Cream was always packed with nowhere to really sit. So for us, dining in this area, doesn't really offer all that much. If it were just my dh and I, we'd try these places. But with 3 kids, it just wasn't their cup-of-tea. I'm sure it appeals to some though.
I wouldn't be nervous about trying BCV though.......you may end up liking it very much. We enjoyed our stay at the Beach Club overall (the new Marketplace food options in the gift shop was a nice addition---loved the fresh fruit and yogurt parfait !). Have a nice stay !

It is a shame you did not get to try Spoodles or Flying Fish. They are 2 of WDW's top restaurants, especially the Flying Fish. The Flying Fish and it's chefs have won quite a few culinary awards. That is one of our very favorite restaurants at WDW. Both Spoodles and Flying Fish have a children's menu that you kids might have liked. It is really for little kids, so it is generic, little kids food, since usually teens have grown to have more sophisicated food palates; or kids like ours, who were ordering off the adult menu at age 4. They have been eating "eclectic and fancy" food and have refused chicken nuggets and PB&J since preschool. I am sure your teens could have ordered off the kiddie menu, if you had explained the situation.
There is also the Yachtsman's Steakhouse, The Club Galley, ESPN, Big River Brewing Co, quite a few restaurants in Swan & Dolphin and many restaurants in Epcot all within a short distance of the Epcot resorts. There really is a very large variety of restaurants in this area serving a vast variety of cuisines. I am surprised, you did not realize this.
The excellent views from the Epcot resorts are not just from the rooms. Just walking around the resorts, it is possible to see parts of Epcot and MGM, Illuminations, Fantasmic, the Friendship boats, waterways, the boardwalk, etc., plus the sheer beauty of the resorts themselves and their lavish grounds and flowers. As in all resorts, some rooms have better views than others but on a whole, the views from the Epcot resorts both in and out of the rooms are very, very nice. I can not see how one could dispute this.
We have stayed at BCV and BC and YC many times. I never saw BCV's that faced the front driveway of the BC. At BWV, yes there are standard view villas that face the front driveway but I can not think of any villas at the BCV that face the front driveway. The BWV's that face the front driveway are a distance back from the road so I doubt exhaust fumes would be a problem. We never get these villas, we are boardwalk view folks, so I can not be sure about the exhaust fumes.
Hope you enjoy the remainder of your trip at Vistana and OKW. Tell Mickey hello, for us! :wave2:

Flying Fish would have almost certainly "simplified" a dish for your kids as well. Its a great restaurant. My kids (who are six and seven) enjoyed it - ordered off the children's menu and had just a grilled chicken breast. I would really recommend you take the time for this one - even if you need to drop the kids (there are teens involved?) off at ESPN and pick them up after dinner.....

(On the other hand, I don't think you missed anything with B&C - too crowded and expensive for a "not great burger" and a rather mundane ice cream sundae - but other people LOVE it).

I don't doubt and I'm not debating these restaurants are top notch....just not our taste. It is a problem having a 13, 15 & 19 yo to try and please. And I can assure, these menus are NOT to their taste because I just tried to talk them into this past weekend while we were there. Also, prices for Yachtsman Steakhouse and Flying Fish are a bit steep if one is not on the dining plan. It would cost a small fortune to feed our family of 5 at these two places particularily. I would if the menu appealed to them though. Disney doesn't really offer anything for the 12-18 yo group who have "teen tastes" if ya know what I mean. And like I stated, these are OUR personal tastes and feelings on these places. Just not for us at all.

Not what we'd prefer to do ? Even though they're teens, my youngest is only 13. I'm not going to drop her off. I don't think my 19 yo ds would want to be in charge of them if you know what I mean and we prefer to dine as a family while on vacation. If the kids were younger, we'd have the kids' menu....not many choices for 13-18 yo's though. Sorry if anyone took offense to my opinions on these ? Just not our cup 'o tea. Glad u all like these places though. :)

Hi Everyone!

Thanks for easing my mind. We're going the 11/11 to 11/16 so this is a short stay for us. DH is totally fine, it's me concerned for him.

We did go to Beaches and Cream one night and looked around. I know the boys would enjoy the freedom and activities BCV and BWV has to offer. We cook alot in the villa, so food is not too much of a problem for us. Though we are trying Le Cellar this time and very excited!

I did plan one day of relaxation to enjoy the resort and activities.

I hope addonitis doesn't hit, because we just did one! Uh-oh ;)

Thanks Again All!

Deb

There is sooo much yet to experience. We want to go to all the resorts while coming back to our favorite VB once a year. It is hard taking that first step because you're comfortable with home. But you and your family, I think, will find excitement in discovering the new. Talk to your DH before you leave and tell him of your concerns. Don't let this be a stress you carry on your shoulders through the vacation. Good Luck... All will be fine. :)

I can happily say, no, I do not know what you mean by "teen tastes". Our children have eaten at a wide variety of restaurants since they were very young. They have an appreciation of many types of food, beside the usual USA fare. We experience and enjoy a wide variety of ethnic foods and all food types from sushi to Mom's meatloaf. This has been true since the kids were preschoolers. We have dealt with a range of teen ages and did not have a problem, because they have always enjoyed a variety of foods. Our children had parents that were very much foodies. We enjoy eating out and always have, so to our kids, it was second nature.
If "teen tastes" means pizza, burgers and fries, then we really can not relate to that. Our kids like their share of junk food, but when it comes to a good meal they will pick a delicious coconut encrusted grouper or a great filet w/bernaise sauce served over roasted aspargus -- over a burger and fries--any day of the week.
I can certinaly respect that this is not your families preferences. However, many families with teens (and younger) enjoy eating out at a wide variety of restuarants with varied cuisines and menus. Therefore the Epcot resorts provide a great selection of restaurants within a very close proximity.

No offense. Different strokes for different folks. (As I said, I don't get why people go out of their way for B&C)....

Oh puleeze...... ;)
My kids like other things besides burgers and fries. We've eaten at Kona, Boma, Cape May, Raglan Road, Rose N Crown this trip......they just didn't like the menu options at Spoodles and Flying Fish. My kids will eat shrimp, chicken, steak.....we've gone on cruises and dined in Mexico and the Carribbean. Meditteranean and Portuguise options come to mind on the Spoodles menu. It just was not their preference. During the year, our schedules are so hectic, we often don't get to eat together, so I wanted places that would please the entire family.
I was just giving my opinion....it's just lovely that some enjoy those restaurants....but there are many that do not I'm sure. It's a bit of a different fare and FF is a little pricey to walk into when the kids are rolling their eyes at the menu options. These are restaurants we might try once during a trip, but not places we'd eat on a regular basis.
Thanks Crisi for the "different strokes" comment....that was all I was trying to get across. :thumbsup2
However, many families with teens (and younger) enjoy eating out at a wide variety of restuarants
Yeah...believe me...it was actually easier when they were younger and could dine off the kid's menu and didn't care where we went to. With teens it's much more difficult in my experience.

I'm afraid I can't ease your mind, but I have the EXACT same concerns, so please post when you get back on how it went. DH loves OKW, and has never wanted to stay at BCV. But I stay there on my solo trips and I love it. So he's been saying, "Maybe sometime I'll try it there, just to see what it's like." But I'm so afraid of him comparing everything negatively to OKW that we've never been to BCV together. I'd be very interested on another OKW devotee's response to BCV.
