Has anyone here used your points to stay somewhere other than Disney Resorts...although we absolutely love Disney and the Mouse we're a little Disney'd out (3 visits in 1 year) I mean, I can't believe I ever would be, but we would like to use our investment to its fullest potential...

Besides we are currently have a strong case of add-on-itis to be able to do the cruises and world passport and concierge...

We stayed at the Boston Harbour Hotel and we went out to a show and dinner. Great hotel. We also used points on a 3 day cruise.

We just bought into the family on Jan 31st and are still waiting for all the paperwork. I was wondering about the other places as well and what kind of points they might require.

My husband and I will be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and are thinking about staying at WDW but I kind of was wanting to do something different. We have been going to WDW every year since 1989 and although I won't complain about going to WDW, I thought something different might be worth looking into.

We visited "Atlantis" in the Bahamas with our DVC points. It was a fantastic place. A little on the "pricey" side, but it's something to do at least once in your lifetime!

Best wishes,
Tom :sunny:

We did Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island and the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix, both were amazing. I think they were part of the conceirge collection.

I use my points else where almost every other year (I go to Disney the other times). So far we've stayed at the Mandarian Oriental in Washington, DC. The Biltmore in Arizona and in NYC (can't remember which hotel, it was ~ 6 years ago). I find all the hotels on the list are definitely 4 star.

A couple of years ago, we exchanged our points to visit NY over Thanksgiving and stayed at the Shelburne Murray Hill. It was a great time (Macy’s parade, Broadway show, sightseeing with Christmas decorations up, Christmas shopping, etc.). We now have reservations at the Regency in NY for Memorial Day weekend.

A know a lot of people don't think the cost of the points is worth it, however we feel we have the points why not use them. We have used our points on a 7 day cruise, a 2 night stay at the Jefferson Hotel in Washington, D.C. (no longer available), a 5 night stay at the Tanque Verde Ranch in Tucson, AZ, a weeks stay at the Royal Islander in St. Maarten and are booked on another 7 day cruise in July. I would stay at any of those places again. We had a wonderful time at all.

have used points at Keystone Ski resort twice and been very satisfied. I plan on trying some of the other options

I'm so glad to read this. Initially my thought was that if Disney was going to attach itself to a hotel or resort, it can't be a shabby establishment. The world has just opened up in so many ways!

We've stayed at Big Cedar Lodge in Branson several times, which we love - it's a gorgeous resort, especially at Christmas. But using points isn't an economical use during the season we're usually there (55-60 for a weekend night cabin). We either get a package or pay the going rates.

We have stayed at:

Woodstock Inn (no longer on the list)
Doral Resort Miami (no longer on the list)
Jefferson Hotel Washington DC (no longer on the list)
Fairmont Hotle San Francisco - still on the list

No problems getting any of these resorts and they were all excellent. The Fairmont was better than excellent.

Not sure why DVC changes the resort list so much over time but the new choices seem just as good as the old ones. The Concierge Collection is not the best way to get the most for your points, but if you don't care about this fact and just want to try something different I think you will find you won't be disappointed in the accomodations. You may be disappointed in the amount of points you need to use to get a much shorter reservation than you get at a Disney Resort. For example I used 147 points for "Signature"
accomodations for 3 days at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. Hope this helps.

On one hand, we've gotten reasonable deals and good accomodations through DVC>II for places like Hawaii and Williamsburg. On the other hand, those deals were only "reasonable," they were not bargains. I don't mind trading out from time to time, but I would not add on just for that purpose. If you've made 3 trips this year and you're getting burned out, you might reconsider adding more DVC points and travel elsewhere on some other deal instead.

We have used points for Disneyland Paris and next week we are exchanging for week during our school holidays to Devon in the UK.

We hope to go to WDW every year and do an exchange each year.

Looking forward to the next 48 years or so!!!

Susan

We did an exchange to the Kona Coast Resort in Hawaii. It was very reasonable, since it only cost us 160 points for the week in a 1 bedroom 2 bath unit.

If you're saying that because it's on DVC's list, that means it's OK, you need to rethink this approach. But even if it's OK overall, an individual choice may not fit your needs. You definitely should research any choice independently in terms of cost and appropriateness for your needs then decide. I can think of many situations where one took a DVC option through II and several through the CC and was not satisfied.
