World of Disney NYC - now we have a closing date

we were supposed to go to NYC this november but do to money constraints we cant go and now i will never see this store before it closes. If you need me ill be in the dark corner in the fetal psition trying to find my happy place :'(

Another fellow Diser here in NYC that is EXTREMELY bummed that this store is closing. Although I'm working now, after I got laid off from my job I would have interviews in the area and would always stop by. It made a bad situation better!!

I heard it was closing like the rest of you but I also hear (not sure where I heard it) that it was also going to another smaller location. Again, not sure the truth to this but with the announcement of a new kind of Disney Store maybe this all makes sense that soon NYC will see a new flagship Disney store sometime next year maybe?

Anyway, I love the idea of doing a NY/NJ/CT DISers meet to send off the World of Disney in style. Let me know if there is any interest out there also would love to add all Disers, especially in the NY/NJ/CT area to my Facebook account as well!

There was just an announcement a few days ago about the Disney Store renovations and that the flagship store in NYC was moving to Times Square. I'm sure you will see the new one open soon. See the link right above your post

Visited the "World" today.

Now that Halloween has been cleared out of the store, much more has been removed. A lot of the tables & displays that have been present for years have now been removed. The store seems to have so much more space to roam now. I think the section where it is most apparent is by the DVD/CD/BlueRay section right at the top of the escalator. There used to be displays there with books and CD and more, and now there's just floor with a clear view to the shelves. The princess area in the back of the 1st floor also has a ton more room to move now (but Tiana does have her own spot already).

Are they removing inventory? There are fewer displays, and I assume there is less stuff.

In addition, there was always a clearance section (albeit small) - one on Level 1 and one on Level2. Both are gone now. No more clearance items.

But as anyone would expect, Christmas stuff has invaded!

Will keep an eye on this place until closing time.

One of our favorite stops when visiting the city was WoD. I bought a black leather coat there a few years ago that has mickey head pink & purple lining with a NYC WoD label. I get so many comments on it still. I wear it all the time and as I unzip it it gives me that happy Mickey feeling (ok that sounds just a litlle bit wierd as I re-read it). Maybe I should rephrase that. Anyhow, you guys who can get there say "bye" for me too.

World of Disney report:

Just visited World of Disney on Saturday and everything was seemingly normal. There were no sales. Christmas decoration were up including a tree, and a moderate selection of Christmas decoration were available.

I visited with someone who had never been there before and hasn't been to a Disney theme park, and she was in awe over the enormous spread of Disney merchandise of every variety! I was amused at her amazement at the cookies and candy available at every gift shop on Disney property, and I guess I have become immune to the idea!

I may stop in tomorrow. Going to get my daughter Minnie pencils and erasers for school!

My husband and I first visited World of Disney after our anniversary trip to WDW. It brought back a little bit of the magic that we had experienced in Florida, but closer to home. I was hoping to take my daughter there in early 2010, but now will not have the chance. Sad to see anything Disney go away.

I work in the area and would regularly walk to WoD on my lunch hours. It's going to be sorely missed, especially as they've closed every other Disney store that was anywhere near me.

I wouldn't expect to see many big sales at the WoD, except on maybe the NYC exclusive things. They can always just ship the other stuff back to FL or CA and not have to take the hit on it. They used to have a small clearance section, but I never really saw any big sales there at all.

I was there this weekend and I asked about the new store. They said that even if one does open in another location it would just be a Disney store vs. a a World Of Disney Store.

I might have to go and check out what they have on my lunch today. I had actually been thinking of picking up some NYC pins. The NYC stuff is really the only stuff I'd ever seen on sale there.

I'm going to miss it so much. I loved walking up there on my lunch hour. I'd browse and take the chance to add money onto my Disney gift card for my trip. Now there are no Disney stores anywhere near me.

The NYC Merchandise went from 40% off to 60% off.

...and I couldn't get a consistent answer as to what the new Disney store in Times Square was going to be. One CM said it would definitely be a store run by the Parks (like the current WOD NYC is) and one other said it would be a glorified mall store.

I have read all the press, which seems to point closer to the former option. Does anyone have anything more definitive?
