World Of Color Views For SSR?

I still say its going to go to DAK if it goes anywhere.

All three of the other parks have nighttime shows.

The lake between Everest and Nemo is just the right size, and there is plenty of room for viewing on that path between Nemo and Dinoland!

It would make sense that it gives that park a show, and that it would work with the animals because there are no fireworks. However, it would be an expensive prospect for them, because it would mean extending the hours of the park. That means additional staff. Animal Kingdom usually isn't open at night when a light show would work.

Extra hours = Extra $$$$ for the park.

Please Disney... USE YOUR CREATIVITY!

It is really NOT required to have the EXACT same shows/rides at EVERY park. Surely you can think of new ideas!

I love World of Color, but if you do this then you have just cost yourself a California AP. Why keep going to California (Or Florida) if the park closest to you is a "clone" of the others?

I don't think they could hold both at the same place. The water jet platforms for WoC are enormous. And Fantasmic has the mountain.

Epcot would be the best place. The current Illuminations has been running for almost 12 years (fall 1999 - it was redesigned for the millenium).

It wouldn't work at Epcot. You would be too far away from it and WOC definitely has a front to it. You would miss a lot of the show if you watched it from the side or back. Replacing F! with WOC makes the most sense. Especially since F! is dark so much these days.

I had a view of WoC from my room at the Grand Californian but didn't pay extra points for it. The view wasn't that great, really as you need to be in a central area. Even the view from the WoC picnic/fastpass area was blurry. The best location of course came with the purchase of a preferred dining package. If they do tie it in with a restaurant package then I can see lots of people forking over the money for the better view and justifying the extra cost by the value of the meal.---Kathy

I had a studio, 6504. I would pay extra points to get it again. My friend (Pat McDuck) arrived the day before and stayed at PP and then checked into VGC at 7:00am (I was flying in that day) and asked for a WoC view! We got it!

World of Color is Fabulous and would make a Fantastic addition to Disney World.
I was lucky enough to enjoy my first trip to Disneyland last summer within weeks after World of Color opened!
Here's some pics!

Great pictures Dave! I think it's an awesome show. I wondered why they moved the Mickey head from California Screamin to the Ferris Wheel but after seeing the show, I can see why! It makes an awesome background!

I'd like to see it at DTD and I'd like to see DTD become a ticketed area of some sort. Maybe along the lines of a Water Park and More ticket level. It would do a lot for DTD and SSR.

You seriously think that after all these years of promoting that AK can't be open after dark in the interest of maintaining the animals, that they're gonna change that policy now for a water show? No fireworks/loud noises because of the animals? Really?

Yea. Let's start charging to get in the area that's now nothing BUT a retail center. At least PI presented a small excuse to charge for a part of it. Ain't gonna happen. No way. No how.

SSR is a done deal as far as Disney (WDW) is concerned. No new revenue stream potential there. They sell the CRO rooms anyway. What's the motivation?

Business must be practical and profitable. You can interject some magic too, but at the end of the day, it has to make money or it must fail. That's the whole premise on which WDW was built.

I would love for WOC to come to Disney World. I saw the show twice and thought it was amazing. It would be awesome at the new Hyperion Wharf (formerly Pleasure Island) area of of Downtown Disney.

I only hope if they did bring it to Downtown Disney they would also bring back the Adventurers Club. I was never able to go to it and I keep hearing about it on the boards.

I would love to see it in WDW but wouldn't want to lose either Illuminations or Fantasmic. I love them both!

Extra hours = Extra $$$$ for the park.

Not necessarily. DAK and DHS reportedly have very similar attendance figures despite DHS being open several hours later each day.

You can't really do an apples-to-apples comparison between the two but most Disney fans seem to regard those two parks as being similar in make-up. IMO there's reason enough to doubt that extra hours would draw larger attendance.

So the question becomes whether there are additional profits to be made by operating the park another 3-4 hours per day. Seems like you'd have to sell a lot more t-shirts and Mickey ice cream bars in the evening to justify keeping hundreds of CMs on the payroll for a few more hours.

As for World of Color at Downtown Disney, don't see that happening. Not there or at any other free venue (like Crescent Lake.) Can't see Disney giving that away for free.

Logistically it would be a nightmare. It's already a daily challenge at California Adventure where they built a 7000 person viewing platform especially for the show. No way they would duplicate the effort at DTD or any similar location where there isn't adequate parking or proper support facilities. Or a booth to sell tickets at $90 per day.

I was recently in Tiberias, Israel. There is a spectacular light show shown several times a night, for free, on the lake. You can see it on YouTube:

Although probably 1/10 the size of World of Color, it was nonetheless great. It leads me to have no doubt that Disney could create a scaled down or re-configured World of Color and show it nightly for very little cost near DTD.

I say Epcot is the best option for it, BUT they need to redesign the show for multi angle viewing. They also may need to put in some tiers for viewing like they have at California Adventure.

Too many trees around at AK, and having it at DD would draw packs of locals, and guests staying at hotels outside of Disney. Parking would be a total and complete nightmare at DD as well.

Just my opinion. Saw WoC in May and loved it.

I don't know what operational costs run for such a show but dozens of Cast Members are needed for crowd control, security, etc. That's costly. Installation and maintenance of the gear is also a factor.

Certainly Disney COULD create some variation of WoC at a number of locations on property. The relevant question is WHY would they do it. DTD crowds seem larger every time we go. Why would they give out Disney-quality entertainment for free at a venue that doesn't appear to need an additional draw.

To draw people to restaurants, snack stands, and stores?

Put it in a theme park and you accomplish the same goal...while charging $90 per head just to get in the gates.

Besides, Disney doesn't own any of the restaurants and only a fraction of the shops at DTD. Direct benefits to Disney are pretty marginal. Could even have the reverse effect of scaring away shoppers due to unmanageable crowds, while discouraging people from actually buying park admission to see similar shows.
