World of Color Superthread

As someone who has never been to DCA, I have no frame of reference for locations (although I am going to find a map after I post this!).

We have dinner reservations at WCT at 4:10. From what I am reading, Glowfest will be at 6. I have to assume we will have time to finish eating and get to whereever that will be. That ends around 8 and the Carnivale of Color starts at 8:30. I have to think that the WOC 'standing' areas will be filled before the Glowfest ends. I like the sound of "drumming down the sun" but am not sure that can be seen from the WOC standing area? :confused3

Ugh, so confusing for a newbie! :upsidedow Guess we will now more at the end of the week!

I tried to make WOC dining reservations through Vacation Planning, yesterday, but they didn't have the option of doing that, and referred me to Disney Dining.

I called Disney Dining this morning, at 7:55, exactly 60 days out from my date. I was on hold until 8:02. The CM was very matter of fact and professional, asked me which restaurant and show I wanted, and was able to make the reservation for me within 10 minutes of my requested window (6:00 pm.) They took my name and phone number, but did not give me a reservation number. First showing reservations were available between 4 and 7.

It is really simple. All of these places WCT the Drum down in front of the Sun Palza(the DCA hub)the Carnival of color and the WOC veiwing area are all in a almost strait line.

Once you leave WCT and get to the Sun Plaza, my guess is you can just go with the flow and it will get fairly orderly.

Good to know! Thank you ... I just can't get the feel for it even looking at the maps. I agree ... following the crowds will probably be our best bet!

I find the Sue Kruse article/review of World of Color on Miceage today to be quite interesting - http://miceage.micechat.com/suekruse/sk060910a.htm. It sounds like there is a lot to love about WoC in terms of the effects and, well, color - and did we expect anything less? - but it apparently does have its flaws in terms of a cohesive storyline to connect the characters together. It sounds a little disjointed. Then again, I imagine that people who just happen to be walking by when WoC is happening, or those who can see the show and all its fantastic effects from their hotel room, won't really care too much about the storyline, as they will be too mesmerized by the aesthetic appeal of it all. The visuals are what's going to bring in the people. The storyline will probably be secondary to many people.

Beautiful Show!
Not only the visuals but the music and sound system were really incredible too. We went on rides right up until they started closing them down and then wandered over to get in line for the show. It took about 10 minutes to get into the Park and find a place to stand (sit for about 30 minutes until showtime) and we selected a spot right in the center on the top step so no-one could possible stand in front of us to block our view.

Some of the stuff they did with water, motion, lights, lasers, mist, fire & video etc will blow your mind. It is like NOTHING I have ever seen before. At one point they make the water shooting upward look as though it just goes up ONLY, you can't see it dropping, I think its done with lights and I was mesmerized for a moment by that effect. Everyone has or will have their favorite parts and mine was the Pirates of the Caribbean near the end, all the red lights, fire and video worked perfectly and that part seemed the most memorable for me.

Overall I give the show an A and think the creative team, the engineers, sprinkler experts, editor's what-ever should get to have a standing ovation from the crowd! I'm still clapping and can't wait to see it again.

Here's a few show facts I haven't really seen posted anywhere;
Nearly 1200 programmable water fountains, streaming 30 to 200 feet high
Nearly one full acre of engineered superstructure (longer than a football field)
More than 36 flame effects
One of the World's Largest water screens (380 feet wide by 50 feet high, 19,000 square ft of projection surface.
More than 100 musicians and a choir of 100 voices are featured on the soundtrack.

Go! See! Enjoy!!!

Ok, so here is a good question for everyone? I will be there this weekend, of course opening weekend. I will be one of you guinea pigs, :).

But here is my question, we do not plan on spending money for any of the meals. My family and I are just too picky of eaters to spend money on something they will not eat, and I have problems just spending additional money to see the show. So, I will be one of those people running to the FP machine by Grizzle one morning to try to get our four standing room only tickets. But, do you think it would be faster to enter the park from GC or from the front gates? The machines are very close to Grizzly, but they may only have two people taking tickets and it may take longer to get in, or do I make the mad dash from the front gate? What do my fellow DIS'ers think?

Only hotel guests will be able to use the GCH gate, I didn't see if you were a guest or not, so otherwise, you'll line up outside the DCA entrance as early as 7 am (when they let people in the security gates) and when the park opens at 10 am You will be escorted over to the FP area by CM's that are there just for that reason. I think they are trying to cut down on the "mad dashing" for safety reasons.

I think that's a good idea..but what I'm getting is that the color assigned to which area change randomly, is that right? On Mice Age they were saying that blue was really where red was originally at and that what area would be what color will change. So, one night blue will be best viewing, one night not, etc. Is this right?

This is correct. In fact the night we saw it. Yellow was dead center and we had Blue, but when we got there, even THAT had changed and suddenly Blue was dead center, but honestly, there isn't a bad place to see the show from. Its SO BIG that pretty much everywhere is good. They also had a section called orange that was on the bridge.

That's my DH's favorite part. He really wants to go again and stand in another viewing area.

We were in the orange section on the bridge.

How was the bridge? I don't really think that there is a bad place to see that show, but I'm curious what you thought?

they didnt add the classic Disney characters... :( :( :(

How many people do you think you viewed the show with? I'm guessing not a full 4k.

How deep were the people in the tiered sections of Paradise park? Like 4 rows of people or 8 rows? Does that make sense?

3500 maybe. I saw CM's counting the crowd so someone knows (just not me) I would say the crowd was at least 8 rows deep, but that's not a very good way to measure it because people don't stand in rows exactly. More like bunches. There was a LOT of open space right in the middle in that round area of the park. They announced that it was "sold out", but I have no idea how many tickets they actually gave away. It looked more packed on the bridge, probably 5 rows deep at least.

Ok this may be a stupid question but I just saw that WOC is only showing through August 29th!?? Is this true!!?? I will be there Sept 2nd-6th and will be bummed if I'm unable to see WOC!

Did you see this on www.disneyland.com? That is the end date for Summer Nightastic. The WoC is not a temporary attraction or just for summer. I have little doubt it will be playing that week because of Labor Day. I would guess that it will run as often as the fireworks.

It may go down for rehab now and then, but it was designed to be easily maintained.

I called the dining line earlier today to confirm my WOC dinner reservations at Ariel's Grotto & the CM said the preferred standing area the dining package guests will get should be red (which she said was supposed to be dead center)..anyone heard of this? I don't know how accurate this is because pp's said they've been randomizing the colors assigned to each area :confused3

Will be going to see this with my GF right after she gets off work lol. Gonna head right over and find our spot and stay there.

red was the old dead center... currently its Blue and yellow.

At this moment, im not sure how thats gonna work if its randomize as where you line up for the woc is where it makes it easier for you to get in...
