World of Color Superthread

Being a short person, I'm starting to think I'll need to pack our video camera so that I can try to hold it up in the air.
I hate it when people do that, but if we're surrounded by tall people, it may be the only way we'll be able to really watch it, even if it's later at the hotel.

They have been practicing the character parade all morning again through the waterfront area. I think the character puppets are glistening with reflected light rather than lights from within. Looks really cute and hopefully something to entertain/distract all those folks while they stand and stand - and stand. Talked to every CM I met yesterday and every one of them RAVED about the show. People in Calif are soooo friendly! and all happy CMs so far:thumbsup2. GCV is gorgeous and I love it, but I won't ask for theme park view again - not a good enough view of the show to counterbalance the noise at night for me at least - but I also have construction workers right outside my balcony that start working early - 6AM.
Off to CA today - maybe they will give out a few tickets to tonights WOC showing - I am an eternal optimist!;):lmao:
PS: just got to say - love, love, love DLs Space Mt!!! - why oh why can't they do that to the one in MK?:confused3

My DH and I were invited at the last minute to one of the CM previews tonight. It was INCREDIBLE! We stood on the bridge and had a great overall view. There is definitely a heavy water mist zone down front. I don't know that there is a really bad standing place because the show takes place on the entire lagoon width wise and goes up high. Well, unless you are really short behind the guy who has his kid on his shoulders.

Let me just say, if you try to video or take a picture, you will miss something, there's just that much going on. My DH who is not easily impressed with any kind of show even said that he had a favorite section that he would like to see again from a different viewing spot.

It's late and I'm thinking that if I don't have to move my youngest home from college this weekend, I will try to watch it from Paradise Pier.

Hmmmmm, I came away from last night's preview with a completely opposite reaction. We were standing in the Red section on the boardwalk near the Golden Zephyr and I couldn't find a lot of very nice things to say about the show. I've deliberately stayed away from as much information about the show as I could until after I'd seen it for myself, so that I would have an unbiased opinion. If I were to go on what I saw last night, I'd give it a pass and go ride some rides. I may have to play the lotto and try to get a ticket for the bridge to view it, though.

Maynrive, can you give us an idea of what you think of Disney's other live entertainment (parades, fireworks, any of the WDW night performances you've seen) so that we know how they compare in your mind?

Forgive my ignorance, but where is the bridge? Is it in the Paradise Park official viewing area?

ETA: Also, I would be interested to know if you were disappointed in the show itself or the viewing experience.

I know how you feel. I am short also, and I am worried that I’ll be surrounded by tall people and the only thing I will see is the water that shoots up high in the air. And PP is kind of all one level, except for the steps. but i seriously hope that it won't be that way!:)

Ohh I think that poster means the bridge that you walk up to get to Ariel’s Grotto, you know the one that has the big sign in red that says “paradise Pier”…and umm that would be a fantastic viewing area! Especially for us shorties!!

I was referring to the bridge that leads from the Little Mermaid entrance to Ariel's grotto, which I believe is where kikiq saw it from. I'm not sure I can separate the show itself from the viewing experience. To be honest, the view we had was just horrible. No good view of the mist screens, except for the one on the right which was mostly obscured by all the water mist in the air. This is why I'm willing to give it another chance and try and get something in a more central viewing area.

In answer to brenda1966's question, I won't go into details, but I've been a DL passholder for over 10 years. Been to all the Disney Parks around the world (my avatar picture is a Walt pose from HKDL). I generally like the shows I see from Disney, but the tops for me is DL's Fantasmic!, Illuminations, and Dreamlights. With DisneySea getting Fantasmic next year, I may have a new favorite, but I'll have to wait and see.

thanks Maynriv -- wish I could see your avatar blown up. I love that photo of Walt. Sounds like you have a wealth of Disney experiences!

Yes, if you really can't see, that would certain dampen the experience. That's my greatest worry. Standing around, waiting for something we can't even see.

YES, that's what we all said when we were standing there. It would be a great place for short people or people with small children because they wouldn't be putting anyone on their shoulders. We were only 2 deep in some places, I think they could do 4 deep and you could still get a decent view. I still think that viewing area behind the fence along the walking corridor would be a good overall viewing area.

We're a family of tech geeks and we're still trying to figure out how they produced some of the effects.

You know what would be nice? A "seating" (ok, standing) chart like when you get tickets for a play. See the different colors and spots. I haven't been there in a year so I haven't seen the new Paradise Park and I can't picture it.

But, what would be the purpose of the chart. Your spot is random. Once you have it, you can't change it. What function would the chart serve?

To know where the various sections are like preferred, picnic, wheelchair, etc. And a rating that shows which spots are better or where to try to stand if you are in a certain section. When people say something about where were, I would know what they mean. I'm just having trouble picturing it.

Ok, so here is a good question for everyone? I will be there this weekend, of course opening weekend. I will be one of you guinea pigs, :).

But here is my question, we do not plan on spending money for any of the meals. My family and I are just too picky of eaters to spend money on something they will not eat, and I have problems just spending additional money to see the show. So, I will be one of those people running to the FP machine by Grizzle one morning to try to get our four standing room only tickets. But, do you think it would be faster to enter the park from GC or from the front gates? The machines are very close to Grizzly, but they may only have two people taking tickets and it may take longer to get in, or do I make the mad dash from the front gate? What do my fellow DIS'ers think?

There was talk about them not even using the GCH entrance but instead having a line outside just for resort residents and letting them in first. I don't think anyone knows what they will end up doing. That's why you're the GP! :rotfl: You can tell us which is better. :thumbsup2

Glow Fest’
•Music, dancing and “drumming down the sun” will launch “Glow Fest” every night through Aug. 29, beginning at 6 p.m.in the Sun Plaza in Disney California Adventure. After 8:30 p.m., this newest addition to the Disneyland Resort “Summer Nightastic!” entertainment lineup will move into Hollywood Pictures Backlot, providing the kind of immersive excitement for adults and children alike that can only be found in a Disney theme park.

This is from a official Disney news site. It was published yesterday.

I find it interesting because of all the conflicting reports on how the preshows will be organized.

It also has a note about ordering the picnic meals. The first line is the best.

“World of Color” Picnic Meals – Available Online or by Walk-up Purchase*
•Beginning June 11 (date subject to change), guests can go online and order a special boxed picnic meal that includes “World of Color” Reserved Viewing. Picnic meals may be ordered online – www.disneyland.com – or by walk-up purchase, subject to availability, at the Sonoma Terrace, Golden Vine Winery. •Picnic meals may be picked up at the Sonoma Terrace from 2 p.m. to 8pm. Reserved viewing tickets will indicate return time, location and show time.
•Subject to availability, Picnic meals ordered online include reserved viewing to the evening’s first show, and those making walk-up purchases will include reserved viewing to that evening’s second show.
•Picnic meal options include four selections for adults: The All American (cold honey-stung fried chicken), The Taste of Asia (chilled miso-glazed salmon), The European Antipasto (cured meats, regional cheeses, artichoke heart, sun-dried tomato) and The Mediterranean Vegetarian (marinated grilled vegetables in a whole wheat wrap with roasted garlic hummus). Kids’ options include The Junior All American (chicken), The Lunchbox Classic (peanut butter and jelly) and The Little Squirt’s Box (apple wedges, string cheese).
•All picnic meals with “World of Color” Reserved Viewing are priced at $14.99 and must be redeemed for the designated reserved show date and time. No refunds, exchanges or other discounts.

There were two passholders who were turned away from the GC entrance this morning because they did not have room keys. They were very surprised and said they use this entrance all the time with no problem. Perhaps they are already tightening this entrance if this is true.

We were at VGC Memorial Day weekend and they asked to see keys each time we went in that way.

That entrance sometimes gets lax after the morning. Perhaps they usually came later or the CMs just didn't bother with it.

It says starting on the 11th that you can order the picnic meals online.

Ah, got it. LOL Thanks. I was thinking the "1st line" as compared to the "2nd line" to line up in. :rotfl:

FYI - There is murmur on the Disneyland blog that these could go on sale on the 10th. Not confirmed, but I would keep on eye on this if it is of interest.
