Working on Weight Loss During Training—New Year New Us!

Hi Everyone,

Cam: Thanks for the Sparkpeople info. It's just what I needed. Congratulations on finding your leg muscle. With all those crunches won't be long before you're seeing those stomach muscles too. Sorry your scale wasn't being nice. Hope Weigh In went well last night.

Dave: I'm thankful to Monte for pointing you this way. You are a joy to have around. If I can have 1/10th of the positive spirit you have I would be doing well.

Monte: Thanks for sending Dave to WISH.

Minnie: Congrats on sticking with it.

Maria: Hope your knees are feeling better.

Kristi: I saw that water park on the news yesterday. Channel 4, not the News Station :) Looks like a lot of fun.

I stopped by the store yesterday to check out some shoes. I only had 10 minutes to shop before I had to get the kids, but it just wasn't enough. I'm thinking about some Mary Jane Crocs. They're so cute. They just didn't have the right size for me.

Have a great day everyone.

Cindy

Cindy, you are a sweet lady. Thank you for the kind words.

Erica has some Ecco Mary Janes that she says are very comnfortable, she has even worn them to walk a half marathon.

Ok Off to walk. Talking to the pretty ladies of WISH is not getting my workout done.

Dave:hippie:

Dave -- hope your walk went well!

Last night's WW weigh in went well by anyone standards except mine. Down 1.8, but still not back to where I was on 3/20/07, which is .6 lower. I reacted badly and talked Howard into joining me for Chinese buffet. I should have stayed for the WW meeting instead. :guilty: I ate at least 50% more than my daily calorie allowance and more than finished up my flexpoints for the week on WW, though I never used all those APs all week either, so maybe I didn't do too much damage.

I went home and did my 100 crunches and 100 push-ups and did them again this morning before my shower (the first time I've done them in the morning --feels good to have them out of the way; DH had already left for an early meeting so I could do them without being self-conscious). I'll try to get to the walking track or gym tonight and maybe even tomorrow a.m.

This weekend presents more challenges than I can count right now with 6 meals being unpredictable. Hoping to make good choices. No time for a workout on Thursday, Saturday or Sunday, either. Still trying to figure out how to carve out time that I need at the gym or on the walking track.

I hope everyone else is having a good day!

Cam: Sorry you were so disappointed in your WI. 1.8 isn't bad though. Keep at it this weekend and by next week you'll have that .6 lb. Good job on getting the crunches in.

I know what you mean about the eating challenges coming up this weekend. I have a dinner tonight, tomorrow night, Saturday night and a picnic on Sunday. I think I just might get up really early each day and earn lots of exercise points. My dinner tonight is at an Italian restaurant. I've already looked at the menu and picked a broiled chicken dish. I figured that might help going in so I'd be less tempted with the ravioli or chicken piccata that I really want. Good luck to you.

Cindy

Cindy -- great job on scoping out the menu ahead of time. Since you have gone to so much trouble to be careful and make a healthy choice, you may want to make a mental note to ask the broiled chicken NOT to be cooked with oil or butter. I have twice recently ordered broiled dishes -- chicken and scallops and was shocked each time to have the meal show up with the meat/fish sitting in a puddle of oil or butter. At that point, I could just as well have ordered pasta or something for all the calories I'd saved.

Guys share my joy today.

I had a wonderful walk this morning. I walked the 4.5 mile route up to the top of the WKU hill. I set a PR on monday of 57:57. I walked it this morning in 55:50. The effort seemed the same but I felt much more relaxed. I think the relief of finding out that Erica is ok and a best friend who found a lump that turned out to be benign finally relieved some pressure. I was flying today, I felt like all was right in the world.

I'm going to have a Dave creation lunch. I'm having a package of that microwave wild rice with a can of tuna added and a small bag of shrimp mixed in. Yummy!!

Cam I know what you mean about ordering grilled and it comes swimming in butter. I hate when I get garlic mashed potatoes and forget to tell them no half a lb of butter on top.

Have a great day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Dave: Congratulations on your great walk. I really think when you're in a good mood and relaxed your body just feels lighter. Glad you are experiencing that.

I did order my broiled chicken last night for dinner. The good news is I stayed within my WW pts. The bad news is that the chicken just wasn't very good. It was kind of dry, so I didn't really eat a lot of it. My dinner tonight is a belated bday celebration for me, so I'm not sure I'm going to count pts. I'm being very frugal with my pts so far today so that I'll have lots to spare for dinner.

Have a great day everyone.

Cindy

Dave -- :woohoo:

Cindy -- my latest trick is to ask for a side of salsa. I pour that on top of my otherwise-dry meat or fish. It is a delicious way to (1) add flavor; (2) get some extra veggies in; and (3) make the meat or fish less dry

That's a great idea Cam. Salsa has become my new favorite food. I'm really starting to have discriminating taste. I used to just eat it as an excuse to have more chips, now I'm really starting to pay attention to which ones have a better taste.

Dave - Great walk :cheer2: Days like that make the bad days a little easier to take :goodvibes

Cam - I'm sorry your WI wasn't what you wanted. Any loss however small though is success. I saw your busy schedule for the weekend. I know you have strategies for those types of occassions. Sending you :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: that you are able to use them and stay on plan :grouphug:

Well my WI wasn't exactly what I wanted but I'll take it ;) a 1.7lb loss so I'm 1 lb away from a "new middle #" :cool1:

Today was 4 weeks of staying on plan which is really amazing. I've had a few cheats here and there and still managed to stick with it so I'm feeling good. I'm really hoping that my 4th of July I'll be in last summers shorts so I won't have to buy new for vacation. Definitely a motivator :cool1:

WISHing you all the best for a wonderful and ON PLAN holiday weekend :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Total drive-by...

Cam - maybe you are not eating enough...? I know when some people at my WW meetings get seriously stuck, many times they are not eating enough to compensate for the exercise. Just a thought...

I am still not being a good girl, but I am not giving up!
I dropped by WW last night and stocked up on more oatmeal, smoothies & 2 pt. cookies (hey, they were half price!).

We are going up to the lake for the weekend. I am going to bring alot of my own food. Last year I did remarkably well up there on the weekends. So, I hope I can replicate that & avoid all the junk that's always there.

Good morning pretty WISH ladies and Bill.

I went on an easy 4 mile walk on the hills. 52:10, I never thought that 13 min miles would feel like strolling along. I was having a nice daydream about doing how well everything was coming together and how much less stress I was feeling.

I was bad last night about eating I was craving junk so I stopped at the market and bought hot pockets and took them home and ate them. It was after 2 days of eating nice and healthy. Which unfortunately can mean kinda bland. I love Cam's idea about the salsa. I'm going to do that when I have something that I know is going to be a bit taste challanged.

Have a great healthy day guys, remember to smile often and mean it.

Good Morning, Everyone!

Yesterday I ran 4 miles before work. I didn't go as fast as I could, and I felt ok. My knees are much better. I guess I did too much too soon. I'm going to go for the long run of 5 miles this weekend -- outside! This is huge for me. I think I may try a short run (2.6 miles) tomorrow morning, so I see how I do outside. Then I'll push it to five on Sunday or Monday. Have ipod, will travel!

The eating is still spotty and I seem to not be losing much (.5 this week, so I wouldn't exactly call that progress), but I am wearing one size smaller today. I'm still a size a way from "before", but at least I am running regularly and getting ready for the Donald. And I refuse to give up! I will focus and get everything going at the same time.

Dave -- your walking speed is almost the same as my running speed. I think you are walking faster than I run! Pat yourself on the back, you are doing great!:woohoo:

Kristi -- Have a great time at the lake. I will be making a trip to NH this weekend, and probably most weekends for the foreseeable future. DH has an uncle who we just found out is terminal, so we want to see him as much as we can. So glad we won't get stuck at the Hampton tolls! Thank goodness for FastLane! :cool1:

Minnie -- You are making fantastic progress! Congratulations on 4 weeks, I can't imagine how wonderful that must feel!:goodvibes

Cindy -- I am also a salsa fan. We have a perpetual jar in the fridge and multiples in the pantry. And happy belated birthday!

Cam -- I know this weekend is one challenge after another for you, but I bet you will do well. You have a good plan, and I know you are very determined!:upsidedow

Everyone hang in there and have fun this long weekend!
Maria

Maria, thank you for the encouragement.

Guys I sent Mizuno an email asking them if here was a dealer close to me here in Ky that stocked the Revolvers I wear. They sent me a web link for RunningWarehouse.com and I went there and my Revolvers were 59.95 with no shipping or tax. Every other site I visited they were 78.00 plus tax and or shipping. I'm tickled.

I was hoping they would supply me with a pair to wear in the senior olympics next month but guess not. I bet if I win the darn thing they will be more agreeable. (and if I could fly, I woundn't need the darn shoes).

Dave:hippie:

Dave: Be sure to use the WISH discount with Running Warehouse. I don't remember the details, but it was listed in the Training thread a few months ago. Nice job on your walk. You really are speedy.

Maria: Congrats on the .5lb loss. Every bit helps. Enjoy being outside for your run. Thanks for the bday wishes.

Kristi: Good luck eating well this weekend. Have fun at the lake. Hopefully it will give you plenty of opportunity to exercise.

Minnie: Congrats on losing 1.7 lbs. Keep reminding yourself this weekend that it's just one more lb to get to the new decade. Hopefully that will keep you eating healthy.

Cam: Enjoy all your activities this weekend.

I definately over did it last night at dinner. But since I went in thinking I was going to I can't be too upset that it actually happened that way. I did enjoy my meal. The restaurant was Turkish and I'm not very familiar with that type of food, so I was very excited to try new things. I wasn't disappointed everything was delicious. I offered to split a dessert with my friend, but she thought we should get our own. It was very good and I ate it all. I really should have left some of it behind. Oh well. I'm being extra special good today.

I did have a very exciting encounter yesterday. A man from my work came up to me and said "I hope you don't mind me saying, but you're becoming skinny." I told him I didn't mind at all, and I was trying to eat healthier and exercise. I know I'm in no way skinny, but it's nice when someone acknowledges your progress.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Cindy

Hey everyone. I am doing remarkably well this week. After the 1/2 on Sunday I had a pig out session. On Monday I was up 2 pounds. Those are now gone. I am also going through my bloated week starting now through next week... just hate those, but I can't prevent it (KWIM!!!). I have been lazy with exercise because I was "in recovery". This weekend I hope to pound out a 4-5 mile run just to get back into it. Next up is CDC and I want to be leaner and meaner by then.

Cam - Oh hun, any loss is a wonderful thing. You should be tooting proud that the scale is going back in the right direction. You will get below that .6 mark!!!

Kristi - Way to stock up. Bringing your own food is a great idea... and not being home means you eat what you brought!!! Good Luck!

Dave - You speed demon. I can't wait to see that walking in action. I r/w the speed that you walk!!!

Cindy (and Cam) - I never thought about asking for salsa. I eat it on salads sometimes too. Great Tip!!!

Ok, I finally did it! I just joined Sparkpeople. What a great site. I feel like I got so much information just from entering what I've eaten today. I'm feeling really good about this. Setting goals and getting a date to shoot for really helps. I just put in 20 lbs. as my first goal.

I'm excited!

Maria

Dave - You speed demon. I can't wait to see that walking in action. I r/w the speed that you walk!!!

Jen when I do the races over 5K I do them with Erica at her pace. It's a deal we have so we can compete as a team. She is not as fast but a race with her is a always a wonderful memory. It keeps it fun to and I won't burn out either.:flower3:

Also as the distance increases we are more equal. I have speed but she has that endurance that is inborn in women. I learned a long time ago that woman are not nesessarily the weaker sex, their strengths just differ from a mans.

I'm off for my weekly interval training, oh goody. So I get to hurt a little for fun, how nutty is that.:rolleyes1

Have a great weekend y'all. Stay healthy and remember how special we are, because someone loves us.

Hi Guys!

I just completed my first outdoor run. What an eye opener!

I went to a place called Deer Island, which is really a peninsula. There is a paved path that circles the peninsula which is pretty flat. It seemed like a good place to start.

The original plan was to have dh drop me off, since I thought it might be hard to park. When I got up this morning, he was not moving. So after a sip of diet root beer, I drove myself and got the last spot in the parking lot.

During the drive, I realized I'd forgotten my watch and phone. Ok, I could still run, I just wouldn't know how fast I was going. Surely I'd be done in less than45 minutes on this 2.6 mile loop. I had visions of finishing in 30....

I started up this slight incline, and I noticed it's pretty hazy out. It's the first 100 yards, and I'm thinking this may not happen. I can barely breathe. This is hard work...then I settled into a rhythm, and I'm doing ok. I pass an XL pooh-sized fellow exerciser who is walking her dog, and she asked me how I started running. I told her this is my first outdoor run, and she replies she's going to start running. Ok, now I'm feeling good about this. Even though I'm clearly the largest person out trying to run today, I am trying to run, and that is a big step for me. I'm running slower than some people are walking, but nevermind.

So, I have a gorgeous view of the ocean and harbor islands, and the waves crashing below. This is really nice. Oh, what is that? Oh yeah. Did I fail to mention I'm running around a sewage treatment plant? Wind's definitely blowing the wrong way. Guess I'd better try to pick up the pace. I get out to the end of the peninsula, and I see a sign that I have 1.2 miles left. This isn't bad, I'm feeling ok. I'm not going very fast, but I am moving. And there's the Boston skyline in the haze. It really is impressive over the water. I like being out here. I am enjoying myself.

I get to another sign, .7 miles. I can do this, but I seem to be moving even slower. And I'm really hungry. Perhaps something more than the diet root beer would have been in order...The wind in my face feels good, oh wait. That wind might not be the best thing...I'm still going to move along, good thing I have the ipod. The earbuds however, leave much to be desired...I push them in one more time and try for a fast finish. And then I see the parking lot. Of it's own volition, my body slows to a walk. This must be the cool down. I cross the street and gratefully find the minivan. I know I should stretch, I see people doing it, but I just want to go home. I have to take my sunglasses off in the car because they fog up. I drink a sip of water, and off I go. I looked at the clock when I started the car. It had been 45 minutes.

So, outdoors I'm keeping a 2.6/45 pace. This is nothing to be excited over. I am disappointed, and wondering how I'm ever going to do the Donald. This is going to be hard work. The endurance will come, I know. I'm running my first
5K in two weeks. I really hope I can do it!

I feel good about finally getting outside, and I'm so glad I had this reality check.

Dave -- I hope your interval training goes well!:cool1:

Jen -- I hope you are able to get to your 4-5 mile run. I had delusions I was going to do that Monday. We shall see...

Cindy -- How wonderful to get an unsolicited compliment!:cloud9:

Now I'm off to get the day going! I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!

Maria

Maria sounds like you had a super time out there. To make it easier on the joints and the body, have you thought about doing a combination of run/walk for the longer distance?

My intervals went super, I went faster than I have ever gone. I'm starting to actually think I might be able to do those races at the Senior Olympics with out embaressing myself. Well I can dream can't I.

I have to get my night eating under control. I'm good all day then at night when I get home from work I'm starved. I at least have to do something about craving the darn junk. The veggies, twigs and bark are just not cutting it!

Well have a great day everyone and keep smilling.
