Working on Weight Loss During Training—New Year New Us!

Thanks, dkp!
I appreciate your faith in me, but I have to confess to the following non-core items being eaten last night and "charged" against my workout activity points and my weekly points allowance:
breaded baked flounder fillets (3 APs)
5 mini fat free pretzels; 5 baked multi-grain tortillas (3 WPs)
1 weight watchers mini caramel bite (1 WP)
1 sugar free pepperidge farm milano & 1 oreo (3 WPs)
There may have been more, but I think that is it. It was a blur, mostly.

This weekend will be hard, challenges all around:
Tonight -- DH and I are going to at least one movie, maybe 2 back-to-back (I'll make popcorn at home and take it in in a ziplock bag and just get a huge diet soda)
Tomorrow -- Our son's all-state choir concert and dinner afterwards
Sunday -- polar bear plunge for special olympics (I'll have to buy a thermos and take that instead of having the hot chocolate on the beach), then after-plunge party (chili & pizza & cheese & crackers. UGH!). Then family dinner before spring semester starts.
Already dreading the scale Monday morning, but hopefully, I can do okay.

Hope everyone else has a great day and an awesome weekend!

I thought I was the only crazy person smuggling in her own 94% f.f. popcorn to the movies! :)

Also, there's a hot chocolate out there that's "diet." I think it's Swiss Miss. It has the pink banner across the front that says Diet Hot Chocolate. It's is really yummy and only 25 calories. I have been having a cup of this before bed almost every night lately - yum!

Also, I don't think I mentioned this...but Pizza Hut has a "fit n delicious" pizza now that's actually not too bad. The crust is super thin and they put on half the cheese. One large slice with veggies is 3 WW pts.! Of course I would much rather have 4 slices of pan pizza, but this is a great alternative.

I caved & just ate a bagel with lt. cream cheese from the cafeteria. I will count the points though & move on.

Cam - After the day you had I think you did awesome :goodvibes. Good luck this weekend I know you can do it :cheer2:

Kristi - I'm going to have to check out that pizza. I normally strip the toppings off a piece when we order out.

I had a late meeting last night so I ended up having a piece of natural pb toast and a cheesecake tart for dinner. Not the best but all on plan.

My official weigh in was this morning and I have lost another 2 lbs :yay: I hope seeing that number of the scale will help me this weekend when we have dinner out tonight with family :rolleyes1

Okay now where in the world is everyone else??????? Do we have to send the dog catcher out for them. Come one everyone check in we miss you!!!

Have a great day everyone :goodvibes

Hey gang, how is it going???

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile, is everyone getting in their workouts???

I will go back and catch up, just wanted to say hi!!!

Kim

Minnie - 2 lbs! Yay you!!!

Cam - So you are doing Weight Watchers? I don't really understand the stuff about core and how the whole points thing works. When you have a minute maybe you could just hit on the high points for me.

dkp - I was wondering who it was who mentioned Couch to 5K on here and now I am pretty sure it was you. Thanks! I have been following the plan for several weeks. I'll be sure to let you know how I do on the first long jog. Tonight is the night!

I have been doing well. At least my jeans fit better or I should say at least now they fit. Yesterday we had snow and ice so I hit the gym at 5 before the storm hit. Good thing too as my car was snow covered when I left at 6.

I hope everyone has a fun weekend. Don't stress if you cheat a bit here and there. You gotta have popcorn at the movies, right? How clever of you guys to bring in your own ff. I always cave and get the theater stuff. But doesn't a diet Coke negate the popcorn calories? popcorn::

Take care,
Susan

Minnie -- YAY on the 2 pounds!!! :woohoo: I know how hard it is to lose that much. Awesome you!!!

Susan -- core is very interesting. As long as you eat foods from a specific list, you don't have to count points. IF you eat any non-core foods, you count the points against a 35 point weekly budget. You can also use any activity points you earn to eat non -core foods. A very simplistic summary of core foods are: very lean meats broiled or grilled; fresh non-breaded fish & crustaceans; fat free dairy products (yogurt has to be fat-free plain); whole grains; fat free salad dressings (except honey mustard, I think); legumes & all fruits and veggies. You can have ground meats only 1x/day; potatoes OR whole wheat pasta only 1x/day; no-sugar added cereals 1x/day only with fat free milk or fat free plain yogurt. You are allowed to eat from those food lists until you are physically satisfied.
I know Kristi does core, too, so hopefully, she will supplement/correct what I've said. I really like the flexibility of core. I know what foods are core and I really try to eat only core foods so that my WPAs and APs can be available for splurges and emergencies.

Great job on following C25K! Good luck on your first long jog. Be sure to let us know how it goes.

Cam: Confession is good for the soul, right? ;) But I just want to point out all the good things: 1) you are recording everything you eat; 2) look at what you were eating, low-fat and/or single items of things; 3) you had workout points!!!! And you're being proactive about weekend eating challenges, noting areas that might be problems and bringing in food subsitutes. And--brrrr--the polar-bear plunge? That'll get your HR going! In fact, my HR is going just thinking about it!

I was just in the gym reading a fitness mag--okay, so I generally look at the pretty pictures--and read about strategies for keeping up with New Year Resolutions. You're doing so many of their suggestions--the record-keeping, the problem-solving, avoiding temptation. You definitely deserve all the shout-outs you've been getting. :cool1:

Kristi: Thanks for the tips with the Swiss Miss; I love my hot chocolate during the winter, and we're expecting a bitterly cold weekend here. If I'm going to work out instead of hibernation, I like the idea of a little warm chocolate in my tummy. And a big 2 lb :woohoo: to you on the weight loss!

Kim: Hockeychic! Good to see you here! I see you're doing well with the exercising--have you decided what you're signing up for in 2008 yet?

Susan: I'm with you in terms of gauging progress, re: how jeans fit. If I could I'd wear nothing but jeans (and maybe sweats). Congratulations on their better fit. And I'm happy you're doing the C25K too, although I think you might have started it earlier than I did. How'd the long run go?

As for me, I had a good workout day. Night, actually. I generally prefer working out during the day, but Friday nights are kind of cool because there's no one there; it means I can ignore the rules about time limits on machines, etc. (I know, I'm not a team player, except for my WISH team! But as I kick up my training, a half-hour limit on a TM simply isn't going to work.)

I've been on track with eating, too, if for no other reason than my appetite hasn't fully returned.

B: Oatmeal, banana, OJ
L/S: Yogurt w/ granola, apple, PB, carrots
D: Veggie burger (sun-dried tomato) and greek salad

Hope everyone is doing well and, more importantly, feeling healthy!

Cross post from the training thread :thumbsup2

Just wanted to share the news with my WISH team mates.

I interviewed for a position last Friday and I got the call tonight that I will be receiving an offer next week  :cool1: :yay:

Minnie: Again, whoo-hoo on the new job! :woohoo: What's the position, if you don't mind me asking.

A healthy workout day for me, which I used to adjust my schedule and get back on track after being sick. A lot of people in the gym today, but I'm assuming that tomorrow will be pretty dead, what with Superbowl Sunday and all.

Speaking of the Superbowl, I'm a little concerned with how to handle the event. We don't go to a huge party in terms of people, but the gathering always has much more food than necessary. I've already volunteered to bring the fruit and veggie trays, I'll be eating healthy beforehand and will try to gather around the television instead of the buffet table. Still....what kind of strategies do you all have for such gatherings?

As for today:

B: Cereal, banana, OJ
L: Apple, Veggie/Hummus Sandwich, Soda
S: Yogurt
D: We're thinking of going out to a burger-steak joint/microbrewery with friends, so it'll be a salad & pasta for me.

So, how is everyone else doing? Keeping warm, enjoying the weekend, keeping busy? If you have time, please check in and let us know what's going on!

Hey everyone. I was out of town this week. I ate OK, not the greatest. When I travel alone for work, I do well. When I travel with others, I don't do so well. BUT, I swam 2 of the mornings because they had a lap pool. You had to pay for the health club. Tomorrow is the Super Bowl, so that means junk food.... I am really back on track Monday. THO... I ate OK today, so I guess that is a start!

dkp - It is in finance for a large corporation. I hope to be able to post more about it later in the week once everything is firmed up.

jen - Great job on doing so well while being out of town. It is so tough to stay on track :goodvibes

I've done okay this weekend considering all the eating out we had to do. Not the greatest but not a total loss either. I'm finally home for the evening so I will spend some time getting ready for next week which will help.

How is everyone else doing????????

All I can say is... Goodness Gracious.... Tonight is the first time in awhile that I have eaten so much, my belly aches. And it was mostly junk for the super bowl. Tomorrow is a new day, tomorrow is a new day... keep repeating!!!

Minnie - Congrats on the job! We are being audited next week. I so can't wait until it is over and my work stress may diminish a little bit!!

How is everyone else doing? I am sure far better than me. The good this is that I got caught up on our laundry. DH actually helped!!!

I know how you guys and girls feel about sweets...Its been a Whole week with out chocolate or any sweets:scared: and I am a pastry chef its really Hard! Good luck to everyone this week and be strong. :)

Hi, everyone! Most of the weekend went well. I am proud of the following:
Friday night: only diet soda and my own 94% FF popcorn at the movies
Saturday: pure core day except for a cliff bar for my morning workout and 4 SF chocolate covered almonds at dessert
Sunday: limited myself to about 8-10 boardwalk fries and a tiny bite of fudge at the beach. At Olive Garden, I did not touch the breadsticks or the salad w/dressing; I did not put parmesan on my whole wheat linguine w/arrabiata sauce; I did not order the calamari appetizer I wanted; I ordered minestrone instead of pasta fagioli (though I did taste DD's); I did not order my favorite dessert in the world (OG tiramisu). My big blunder yesterday was eating 1.5-2 soft pretzels (fresh baked, too hot to handle!) I figure I took in a total of about 18 non-core points this weekend that were not covered by APs. Still pretty big amount, but I tried to stay aware and controlled.

Well, I finally grabbed a moment to post.

Cam - Well done on the weekend. Avoiding the bread sticks at Olive Garden would have been sooo hard for me. I am so impressed that you did it. Staying in control is the biggest part of the battle don't you think?

dkp - The long run went great. Thanks for asking. I did the whole 2 miles although it took me 26 minutes instead of the 20 it should have. I'm just not that fast yet but I hoping for 10 minute miles at some point. I really like this program as the 2 miles felt very comfortable. We're headed to 2.25 tonight but with the longest interval being 8 minutes. Friday will be 2.25 with no stopping.

Minnie - Good for you on the job. That's just the greatest feeling isn't it?

I did pretty well with my diet - only hummus on water crackers and a couple of beers for the Super Bowl. My giant cheat was a piece of coconut cake that I had instead of lunch after my workout on Sunday. I still think I was under my total calories for the day though. But, the goal is a healthy nutritious diet and that cake definitely was not!

I'll try to check in again soon.

Take care all!

OK, major major stress at work. Do cortisone levels really increase with stress and limit weight loss? Cuz if they do, now I know my problem. I am one huge stress ball all the time!!!

Here is where I am at today...
B: 3 egg whites scrambled with ham
L: 2 tuna pita pockets with lite mayo and lettuce (made myself), Pepsi
S: Mandarin oranges with LF Vanilla yogurt

Not sure what to have for dinner. It is beyond cold here, so maybe soup. I can't believe how cold it is... -34 with wind chill this morning. Our schools were cancelled!!!

Cam - Holey Moley :worship: You did awesome for having so many things going on this weekend!!!

Cam - I really think you did very well considering all you had going on. I love the Olive Garden and how you managed to pass on all that yumminess is a real statement of your will power :thumbsup2

Jen - I'm either a stress eater or one who can't eat at all. Today's been a major stressful day as I gave my notice to my current employer. With the audit looming and my new employer wanting me it is going to be a tough month. I already feel spread very thin and that's not even adding on school :scared1: We can do this though if we stick together!!! Hope your day goes much better tomorrow :goodvibes

Susan - Think how much worse it could have been had you not made the conscious choice to limit yourself! You really did very well ;)

As I mentioned today's been a tough one but I've still managed to stay on plan. Yesterday I "celebrated" with garlic cheesey potatoes  so today I've really limitted the carbs in order to flush that out. Its that TOM as well so I'm staying off the scale until that's over.

CHECK IN EVERYONE!!!! WISHing you all the best :grouphug:

OK, major major stress at work. Do cortisone levels really increase with stress and limit weight loss?

yes, but it's not likely to interfere with weight loss. We don't really know the long-term effects of chronic stress yet, but I think our lifestyle in the US may contribute to some long-term issues that aren't entirely clear yet. Personally, I am a stress eater with daily stress, but with severe stress (divorce, etc) I don't eat.

I'm down about 2 lbs since the half, hovering around 148 now. Really, really need to work on diet issues. I still think it's not quite fair to exercise this much and not be able to eat whatever I want, but what are ya gonna do?

I did get to go to the outlet mall this weekend and buy new size 10 jeans (for $12 each pair :cool1: ). I cleaned the last remaining size 14s out of my closet and will list them on ebay this weekend!

I hope everyone is doing okay with their diet and fitness. After a week I've decided that South Beach is a nice balance for me. I've been Low carb so long I've developed an almost-phobia of sugar but SB has allowed me to merge back into a nice carb balance without going crazy. It's funny how our bodies work. I have a cousin that does real well on WW points but couldn't lose a pound doing LC. I'm the exact opposite!

Starting week 3 of Couch to 5K. There's quite a jump from week 2 to week 3. Or maybe it just felt that way this week!

Hello Everyone!! I have been gone for a while, but wanted to pop in and say how proud I am of everyone for being so good about what they eat. I WISH I could say that I have been eating well, but.... I haven't. Yesterday there was a bag of Snickers calling my name, and I ate at least two or 3 handfuls, but I finally got myself under control and ate pretty good the rest of the day. I have been hovering around 150 for the last week or two, and have decided that this week I am just going to have to be EXTRA good and break that barrier!! I also have to learn to ignore that scale. It says 150, but I have been using those "SHAPE bikini body boot camp" DVD's that are REALLY hard, and I know that I have lost size. My SIL brought me a ton of her old clothes and I am able to wear them. Well, I am gonna run for now, and I am going to try and keep myself accountable by coming in here more often.

Dana
