Working on Weight Loss During Training—New Year New Us!

Texa -- your food and your training look great! Congratulations! And yes, take it from someone who has now walked 4 Disney events (2006 1/2 marathon; 2006 Inaugural Minnie 15k; 2006 Inaugural Disneyland 1/2 marathon; and 2007 WDW Full marathon), you can definitely walk these events and have an absolutely fabulously fun time doing it! Be sure to spend time on the weekly training thread -- you'll find LOTS of walkers there, too. :thumbsup2

After an extremely stressing day at work and not leaving the office until 8, I reverted to old habits and stress-ate. I did okay at first -- green salad w/grilled chicken and fat free soy parmesan & ff italian dressing w/2 tsp olive oil (WW requirement for healthy oil). Then, I was still hungry, so I ate a small ham steak. While it was cooking I ate some turkey chili (still all core up to here, but more volume than I should have eaten). Then I lost my willpower when I was getting some fat free pretzels w/brown mustard and spotted the pepperidge farm cookies my aunt sent us when my FIL died. Immediately considered it comfort food, told myself I needed comfort, and ate 2.5 cookies. UGH!!! When DH and DS got home I told DH about the work stress and we talked about stressful parenting issues and I again went to the cupboard, this time for low fat microwave popcorn popcorn:: and two SF chocolate covered almonds :rolleyes1 . All the while telling him how bad I knew I was being and DS doing the "tsk, tsk, those cookies are not core" thing. I figure it was 8 of my 35 point weekly allowance. After my SF chocolate covered almonds the night before (2 pts), I still have a 25 point cushion.
Yeah, confession is good for the soul. Sure. I'm not even hungry yet this morning. I'll be good today. I promise. :)

Cam - you did fabulous compared to me last night! I ended up using 16 - 18 of my pts. last night! Thursdays always are like that for me & I have no idea why. :confused3 BUT, I did count the points, so it's all ok.

I am having my same old, same old work food again today. All Core except for my 2 pts. baggie of WW cookies. I should be fine tonight. Weekends are usually when I am good - more sleep maybe?

Keep it up, guys!

Hey all, official weigh in today and I am down 2 pounds. WOOT WOOT. So I am officially down 6 pounds from when I got back from the marathon. Normally I am a very slow up and down loser, so this has been an awesome ride for me. I am hoping it keeps going, but I know how my body is and I doubt I will have it this great much longer.

Cam - The fact that you know what you did wrong is the first step in correcting it. Next time grab some fruit or veggies and you will feel much better.

We are having a work lunch today... nachos. I plan to load up on lots of lettuce. I am also planning to hit the gym tonight and if all goes well I will get in a 30 minute treadmill workout. The girls swim class was moved to tonight because of a swim meet tomorrow in the pool. So if they are good, I can sneak out and hit the treadmill. I realy need it too, I haven't done anything since Monday because of my schedule. Oh and my hip pain is acting up again.

Hi everybody. You all are doing so good! Even when you slip you just get right back on the horse and keep going. Way to go!

I have been doing well with both eating and excercise. I have been doing two sessions at the gym on M,W,F as well as evening sessions on Tu and F. I am taking Thursdays and Saturdays off. I work with a trainer on Sunday afternoons and my Tuesday night is with him as well.

This morning I was up at 5 and hit the gym by 5:15 for a couple of miles+ on the treadmill then some stretching - about 45 minutes in all. Breakfast was a whole wheat bagel with lite cream cheese and coffee (I do have Half and Half - just a little indulgence). Not sure what lunch will be yet. Dinner is a baked boneless skinless chicken breast marinated in balsamic vinaigrette, brown rice and fresh steamed green beans. I allow myself a bit of butter and salt on the green beans. I will not eat dinner until after I do my evening workout - walking for 20 minutes @ 4 on the treadmill and doing arms and abs for 30 minutes. Snacks - a tangerine and a FF jello pudding cup.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! Take care all!

Susan

Hey guys! Good day so far. Had eggs whites and oatmeal for breakfast, and have my protein bar and spaghetti with me hear at work. One of my coworkers just brought in a dark rich, gooey looking chocolate pie!

GRRRRR. I don't like pie, I don't like pie, I don't like pie (is it working?) ;)

Have super day!

Hang in there, Texa! Don't give in to temptation. The satisfaction is momentary. The regret lasts much longer than that. Take it from one who knows! ;)

I made it through another day OP! The SBD is really the easiest "diet" on the planet when you learn the rules. It's just sticking with those darn rules and making it a WOL that is so tough. My jeans feel looser today so that is awesome and I've almost made it through 3 weeks so I feel in better control than I have in months.

Today though a nasty migrane has set in. I'm battling my way just to stay at work as my tummy is upset too. We have a work b-day lunch today and it's softshell tacos so I'll probably be off plan but will be sure to have a very careful evening.

Last night I made chicken 2 ways. For DF I added a bottle of hot salsa to the chicken breasts I cooked in the crockpot and he thought it was delicious. As I can't eat spicy foods I had mine shreaded with ww noodles and it was very good. I have left overs for the weekend so I should be good to go.

Today's menu:
Diet dew
B - oatmeal muffin/yogurt
L - tacos (ouch) :guilty:
D - not sure by NO carbs!
D - ricotta creme or cheesecake tarts (if I feel good enough to make them)
E - 30 minutes dreadmill (depending on migrane)

It's supposed to get nasty cold over the weekend. May try to get to the Y to swim as my DS would love that.

Have a great day everyone!!!!!!!

Lunch ended up being a grilled chicken salad with homemade ranch dressing and a Diet Pepsi. Yummy! :thumbsup2

30 minutes at the gym tonight on the dreadmill... it actually went really well. My body wanted more, but I had no time. Eating was OK. We had a lunch party of nachos, which I HAD to have since they are my all time favorite food (DH and I met over a plate of nachos, but that is another whole story). So I ate them, and didn't go back to snack all afternoon :thumbsup2 Then after swim classes/run at the gym, we were planning to stop at Subway to grab something to eat. DD6 turned into a nightmare, so we went home instead. I made myself a salad with leftover skinless chicken and chick peas. I also had some noodles. So I felt pretty good about my food choices and I saved myself some moolah by having a naughty daughter!!!

I have to work some tomorrow because of work taxes and financials... I hope to be good because I will be busy and away from food.

Good evening!
Today I did some hill walking in my neighborhood - 3 miles. I also took my motorcycle out for the first time in several months. My insulated, armored pants (which are even more attractive than they sound because the rise is so high that waist is practically under my armpits) definitely fit me looser than the last time I wore them. Some of my smaller clothes are starting to find their way back into my closet. I'm at a kind of annoying size right now. When I lost weight before, I pretty much flew through this size so quickly that I never had any clothes for it. So my clothes from last month are big, but my small clothes are still too small (at least too small to wear in public).
I know losing weight is hard work. I'm definitely working hard at it. But, the support around here makes it almost easy.
Have a good weekend everyone. I'm going to try to get out in this rare Seattle sun and do some more exercise. I had a goal of 80 miles this month and it looks like I'm going to hit it. Only 13 miles to go in 5 days.

WOW! Everyone is doing so great!

Susan -- you impress me so much -- it takes a lot of discipline to get to the gym that early. I hope you are feeling very proud of yourself! :woohoo: When you go that early, do you eat something before you go? How do you fuel your workout? Awesome lunch choice, too! :thumbsup2

Hey, Texa, where you able to beat the battle of the pie yesterday? I was thinking how hard that would be and hoped you got through the day okay.

Jen -- Sorry DD was naughty, but it is so great that you didnt' stress eat when you went home (unlike some of us tend to do! ). Good job on having your nacho treat and getting right back into the routine!

Minnie -- how is your migraine today, sweetie? I used to get them so frequently and I know how awful that is. I am glad you have been feeling so successful on SBD and hope the weekend is awesome for you! :goodvibes:

blueroses -- YAY for loose motorcycle pants! It's amazing, though, how differently our bodies lose weight, not just from one person to the next, but even how different our size can be at a given weight than the last time we were at that weight.

I did well yesterday all the way up until we got back to our house after dinner. Friends came down from NJ for dinner and games night and we went to the farmers market for pizza at the best place around. I stuck to one piece with fresh spinach, tomato & ricotta. I was feeling very proud of myself and we even stopped at a bulk foods vendor where I found steel cut oats, whole wheat couscous, lentils, whole wheat lasagna and whole wheat shell pasta. So, with all that in hand and big plans for healthy meals, we went home and had dessert while we played Disney's Scene It. Here is what I was picking at: fat free mini pretzels, baked lays, multi-grain nachos & girl scout sugar free brownie bites. I was totally cognizant of what I was eating and was kicking myself the whole time. I kept thinking about the 8 points I didn't spend on a 2nd piece of pizza and how at least this was all "healthier" choices, but all along I knew it was a stupid thing to do and I was on the road to regret!
Went to the gym this morning. I'm sure I have it in me to be disciplined. I just have to put the willpower I have to use. I did a 5K on the treadmill and beat my PR by 90 seconds -- 42:03. The best part was I ran for whole songs at a time -- "unwritten" (4:14, I think) and "Jacky Don Tucker (awesome pace!) (3:08, I think) and then my other running intervals were no less than 2 minutes each. I really think I can build up to a very satisfying time for the 5K which is 5 weeks from today. It is so much harder to run outside and I worry a lot about falling but if the running starts to be more comfortable and I can keep a respectable pace, I can concentrate more on following the footpath of others in front of me to get a better idea of the footing.

Anyway, today's food so far has been just what I needed to fuel the workout:
B(pre-gym): banana, decaf coffee
at gym: gatorade/water mix
breakfast: cutup hamsteak in car right after workout (protein in that optimal post-workout window); 2 hardboiled eggs
lunch will probably be weight watchers oatmeal since I don't have much here
dinner will be london broil and a baked potato
snack -- LF popcorn snuck into the movies

Wht about everyone else?

Drive-by posting, as I'm out of town at a conference and stealing a few minutes to check my email, etc. Thanks to everyone here--Cam, Minnie, panthergirl, blueroses, Jen, Texa, and everyone else--for posting so often. It really does keep me in the right mindset even when I'm away from the boards.

Eating habits have been sporadic the past couple of days, between preparation for the conference, travel, etc. I've tried to keep things mostly healthy within the options I have...vegetarians are an exotic species in this neck of the woods, and so I've been enjoying a lot of unimaginative salalds and pastas. Good new! I managed to avoid the soda-in-transit habit I have, which just adds to my daily caffeine intake. Now, as for the end-of-conference day wine...that's just good socializing!

I've also managed to work out late at night--not as much as I'd like and not at the time I prefer--and keep up with the basics of my schedule. No real equipment in the hotel fitness room, but I brought some gear. My body isn't overwhelming happy with or challenged by the with new routine. It'll all be back to "normal" on Monday, though, and I'll update then, after a weigh-in.

Oh, one last word to blueroses: Are you a vegetarian, too? It sounds like you have your protein intake pretty well-managed. Me, I love the Gardenburger products, but they're not always available to me. I'll substitute Morningstar products, such as their faux chicken strips, or use Quorn. I prefer faux chicken or turkey over the faux steak, pepperoni, and meatballs, which DH likes; I try to compromise with him, though, because he's a vegetarian at home, for me. (Remember that line from Pulp Fiction: "My girlfriend's a vegetarian so that pretty much makes me a vegetarian, too." That's our relationship.)

Hey everyone, I thought I would blow my whole day because of all the stress I am under, but so far I am ok (for a weekend). I ended up going into work because I had to work financials with someone else. I ate a cookie... but that was IT! Here is my day so far, I will still have an evening snack with DH after the girls go to bed (we are watching a movie).

B: Scrambled eggs and whites with mushrooms and cheese, LF hashbrowns, 2 slices turkey bacon (I always try to cook a nice breakfast on one of the weekend mornings).
L: 1 cup chili
S: big cookie
D: 2 thick slices of homemade meatloaf, baked potatoe with sour cream, green beans

I was starving at dinner because I realized my lunch was so pathetic. I grabbed the chili, ate it and ran off to work. The meatloaf was homemade and instead of egg and cheese, I told DH to put in LF Cottage cheese. It lightens up the recipes and tastes yummy.

Not so much a vegetarian (though I have been more than once in the past) as a picky eater. I don't like poultry, I don't eat pork, and I'm allergic all things that live in the water. And I won't eat ground beef. The texture squicks me out. So I mostly eat soy/eggs/beans with the very occasional steak. Not a fan of faux meats - if I liked the taste of meat I would just eat meat. The one faux product I love is Morningstar Farms breakfast patties. Those are tasty! I'm the rare person who really likes tofu. I get some great tofu made the same day I buy it at a local Asian grocery. Really, really good stuff. You can taste the difference.
My husband and I prepare separate meals because we have completely different tastes. We've been doing that for 9 years now. Sometimes he'll snag some of my steamed vegetables.

keenercam, I usually don't like whole wheat pasta, but whole wheat cous cous sounds really good. I'll have to look for that next time I'm out. I do tofu noodles. They come packed in water and you just drain them and heat them up. The texture works better for Asian noodle dishes than Italian dishes, but I can have 2 servings for a total of 40 calories.

I did another 11 miles at the park today (2nd time this week). It was really crowded because the sun was out. Mid week was much nicer, but I should get used to the weekends. My job isn't going to allow time for long runs in the middle of the day. Luckily I don't have to think about that for another 3 1/2 weeks.

Complete drive by here...

But I always thought that when you were sick, you didn't want to eat? I feel lousy with this cold / fever thing to say the least, and all I want to do is eat!

Oh, Kristi, I'm sorry you are still sick. Sending pixiedust: for a quick recovery.

I did not do wonderfully on food yesterday, but not too bad considering my APs from my workout yesterday morning.

Today was better. I stepped on the scale and saw I am only 1.1 pound up from my lowest ever in my adult life (since age 14) and I am determined to get below that this week.
Today's food was:
B: ham steak, broccoli & fat free cheese (avoided the bacon I made for DH and DS -- that was tough); coffee w/skim milk
L: apple
D: whole wheat pasta, green beans, rotisserie chicken (breast meat, no skin)
"dessert" (after workout to get in some essential oils and protein) -- very lean steak sauteed in olive oil w/leftover whole wheat couscous. Delicious!

I am still supposed to get in 1 more fat free milk serving but am just not hungry. I'll try to force myself to drink 8 oz skim milk before bed. Or maybe I'll make a milkshake with frozen strawberries and skim milk! Now, that sounds great!

WOW Cam - Your eating today looks right on! WTG.. much better than I did. I was not so hot on eating this weekend and am a little disappointed in that. I ate like I did before the marathon.... just whatever without keeping track. SHAME ON ME!!!

Oh and I ran 5 miles today in 59 minutes... new record for me. :cool1:

B: 4 small pancakes
L: 1 cup spaghetti, 2 1/2 breadsticks with too much butter on them, 1 cup pasta salad, 1/2 Coke
S: (after run recover) 1/2 cup yogurt mixed with 1/2 cup All Bran
D: 4 ounces beef roast, 1 cup mashed tatos and gravy, 1/2 cup green beans
S: can of soda, mini cupcake, 3 pretzel rods (the big ones)

OK, when I write it out, it's not so bad. Too many carbs tho. And I could have skipped my evening snack of carbs all together since I really wasn't THAT hungry. OK, now that I look at it again... WAY TOO MANY CARBS :sad2:

Tomorrow is a new day. But on Tuesday I leave for Houston for work. I am traveling with someone else, so the eating options will not be my own choosing. I hope I can make it through without gaining!!!

Jen -- Awesome, awesome run, sweetie! You must be so proud of yourself!
Tomorrow is a new day for even better food choices. You'll be fine. I know it!

BTW, I took a bunch of frozen strawberries, put them in the blender with skim milk & sweet 'n low and some vanilla extract and made an awesome shake! Great way to get in the last fruit serving and the 8 oz fat free milk I still needed.

Okay, everyone! Monday is coming and it's a whole new fresh start! Let's do it right! :thumbsup2 :cheer2:

I have a meeting this morning and might not be around until close to lunch time but I wanted to WISH you all a good morning!
