Working on Weight Loss and getting Lean!

Good Morning, Leanies!

So glad to be back, if just for a short time...

Vicky -- Not having your clothes fit because they are too big, Priceless! What a great accomplishment! I think it depends on the quality of the clothes and the number of times you would wear them if it's worth it to take it in. I recently bought some pants that were just too long, and it was worth every penny to get them hemmed. I wear them most weeks, and they fit me well, which is hard with my hips being too much larger than my waist. ;)
Good luck with your condo search -- moving is a lot of work!

Tandy -- I hope things went well with the endocrinologist. I know how frustrating it is to do what you should and not see the results. So glad to hear your dad came through his surgery, and wishing him a speedy and uneventful recovery

Jackie -- :bday: a little belated! (I only know because it was posted on Team Ohana).

I promise to do a mini TR, but I don't think I will get to it until I get back from my business trip. I'm going to Denver all next week for a conference. I'll have my crackberry so I'll be reading, but probably not posting much. I promise that once I get back I will post so much you will all get sick of me! :rotfl2:

I plan to run 10M tomorrow. I ran 4M on Labor Day, and that was it. I did an hour of office laps yesterday and today, so at least that's something. Things have been crazy with the start of school for ds, but he is settling in now and I think they'll do fine without me next week. My dh has to go to the parent Open House without me, hopefully he'll remember to tell me everything.

I'm starting to eat well again, of course that will probably go out the window next week. Mentally, I think I'm sort of having a new start when I get back. I am taking my workout clothes with me, it's supposed to be a stellar gym so I plan to get 3 runs in. I don't have an exact conference schedule so I'm not sure how long they will be (gotta get it in before things get going for the day, and I'm not sure when the gym opens). But I am going 3 times. Plus, I'm staying on this pedestrian mall, so I expect to get some walking in to go get my dinners. Unfortunately, the close restaurants appear to be Hard Rock, P.F. Chang's, etc., but I'm sure I'll find a Subway or Quiznos.

I have a few work things to get done this morning -- and tomorrow it's going to be crazy. We have a kitty vet appt., haircuts for ds and dh, signing dh up for a 5K on Sunday, and taking ds school shopping for more clothes and supplies, plus getting me ready to travel again. I feel like I just unpacked, oh wait, I did! :lmao: I fly out early Monday morning, and get back late Friday night.

Everyone have a great weekend and week, just in case I don't make it back!

Maria :upsidedow

And....here I am again, briefly!

Just wanted to report I did do my 10M this morning! I popped out of bed and banged it off. It felt great, even though I was struggling between 5 &6. I'm also off to a good start with my eating, just have to hold it together through dinner and the evening...here's hoping we aren't at the mall too long and dh holds it together...he is not a shopper at all.

Maria :upsidedow

Good afternoon ladies. It's another gorgeous day here in Kansas! I would give anything to be out there running, but........

Maria: Welcome back! I can't wait to hear all the wonderful details from your trip. I hope you have enough time to get unpacked all the way and repacked again! :) Good job on the run this morning! :thumbsup2

Vicky: It's tough when you are too big or too small for your clothes. The difference is: you are happy and don't want those old clothes anymore! If you do find any running stuff you want to get rid of, just let me know! ;) Of course, the length might be an issue. I have a 34" inseam. I hope you can get enough people signed up for your running group. I have found I don't like to run with others, but everyone else seems to be different. :)

Jackie: Happy birthday from me too! :cheer2: I hope it was fun!

AFM: They say bad things come in 3s, but I'm thinking 4 or 5 might be the magic number. You know my dad had emergency surgery last week. Then, I got sick (still am, by the way). Then, yesterday, in the middle of a wash, my washing machine died! I am one of those people who need to do laundry about every other day, so I don't know what I am going to do. I don't even know where a laundromat is!

The worst thing, though, is my back. It's bothered me for about 20ish years, but in the last few months, it just hurts all the time. I know it's from my chest. I've tried building up my traps and pecs to help with the load, but it's not enough. I've been toying with reduction, but my insurance will only cover it if it's through one of their doctors, and, they don't have any breast specialists on their plan in this area. I woke up yesterday and couldn't move. So, I've been icing it and taking old muscle relaxers, but nothing is working. It's worse today than yesterday. I stayed in bed until 11, and am getting ready to head back that way.

Enough whining from me! I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend.
Tandy

I've been really hesitant to post until I felt like I was confident enough to say this, but I think I can finally say that I'm back, at least temporarily. Two weeks ago I ran 4 miles with the Galloway group, last week I ran 10, and today I ran 13. And last week I finally got in 2 midweek runs of 3 miles, so I'm actually back to some sort of running schedule. The pain isn't completely gone, so I do a lot of icing after long runs to keep the swelling down. I met with the ortho on Thursday, and he said if it increases, he'll order another injection a couple of weeks before the marathon. Then... once the marathon is over, there will be surgery, and 3 months of no running.

The eating, well... DH and I have committed to getting that on track, since both of our target races are within a week of each other between 10/31 and 11/7. It doesn't help that my running buddy (the queen of cinnamon rolls) made me a TOTALLY AWESOME chocolate cake for my birthday, after my co-worker (the queen of brownies) made brownies for my birthday, after I made my killer ice cream dessert for the same co-worker's birthday the previous week. I've had more chocolate in the past 2 weeks than I've had all year. So I need LOTS of help!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. It was a nice day. DH tried to arrange a surprise cookout with my running friends, but couldn't get the schedule to work, so my best friend (the cake one) met us at Macaroni Grill for dinner that night. (Oh yeah - they gave me free dessert too - tried to give me their chocolate cake, but I made them switch it to the much lower calorie lemon pound cake!)

Tandy - Hope you can find a solution for the back troubles. How far would you have to travel to find a doctor on your plan? If my washing machine died (and I'm crossing my fingers since it's 20 years old) I'd cry. Every time I start it I tell it how much I appreciate it! :lmao:

Maria
- Great job on the 10 this morning! We'll tackle the good eating together, I guess. Sounds like we all need a back-to-school restart.

Vicky - It's cooler here too, but by no means ready for long sleeves yet. Just means we dropped from the 90's to the 80's for high temps. This morning was overcast, so even though we still were in the low 70's, it wasn't quite as brutal as it usually is on our long runs. I had to laugh when I read your sugar-free September. I'm apparently eating all the sugar that you aren't. Maybe you could take a little back?

Gonna go, um, eat another piece of cake (gotta get rid of it somehow!) and then take a shower. Headed to see DD tonight.

Jackie

Hello Lovely Lean Ones!

My last reply before I head to Denver tomorrow...

Jackie -- I am so glad to hear you are running on a schedule! I know how much you have wanted to be able to do it, and I couldn't be happier for you!

Tandy -- I can't empathize since my chest is miniscule, but I do sympathize! I have a friend who had the surgery done, and her life has improved in every way since the pain went away. I really hope there is a way for it to happen for you.

Shoutouts to Beth, Debra, Cindy, Vicky!

Filed under "Are you a little bit insane?" I decided to do the 5K with dh today. It was very spontaneous, and I did not mentally or physically prepare -- I would never have run 10M yesterday if I planned to run a race today! About 20 steps in I knew this wasn't going to be pretty, but I was committed so off I went. I knew I was in trouble when the first mile took me 14 minutes, but then I seemed to get my legs a little. I did then whole 5K in 38 minutes, which while not on my usual pace, I'm taking considering I was already tired and there were hills I'd forgotten about!

On the bright side, now I don't have to feel guilty about not getting a workout in tomorrow. And my suitcase is packed, including the workout clothes...

I am going to miss you guys this week, it really helps me to hear how everyone is doing. I should be able to check and read if nothing else, maybe a couple of quick posts, I hope.

Everyone have a fabulous week, and best of luck! :yay:

Maria :upsidedow

Guess I have neglected you all for too long! I have been insanely busy since Labor Day.....LTO!

Maria: Have a good trip! I hope you get some workout time in!

Tandy: I hope your Dad is on the mend! How were your thyroid levels?

Jackie: WOO-HOO! I am glad you are getting some miles in! I hope the pain isn't too bad for you!

AFM: Well, I did get to do Virginia Beach......the weather was beautiful.....Earl left on Friday, and the weekend weather was fabulous! My friend Heidi and I decided to get it done....she was so nice to hang with me and my slow pace! I do appreciate her tremendously! We decided on running to mile markers and then walking for 2 minutes. The first 10 miles went beautifully....I was happy with it, and felt great. After mile 10, things fell apart (which I suspected would happen) I just wasn't trained for a 1/2 marathon! But the miles got done.....that's what matters. It really did help my confindence too! I felt so much better knowing that I got it done.

The medal is beautiful! They really changed it up this year...and I LOVE it! I would have been severely disappointed if I haden't done the race, and missed the beautiful medal!

Eating is going well. The Labor Day weekend eating could've been better, but it could've been worse too! I am back at it.

I started 1/2 marathon training and have committed to running Richmond in November. The 5 miles I did this morning was slow but consistent with no walking. That makes me feel SO much better!

I hope all is well with everyone!

Beth

Good Morning Everyone.

I’ve been off from work for the past 11 days and I never seem to find the time to post when I’m at home. I’ll try to make up for it this week.

Maria: Hope you are having a fabulous trip even if it is for work. Good luck getting your workouts in. I’m sure you will get right back to things once you return. I’m glad DS is adjusting to his new school. Good job on spontaneously entering a 5K.

Tandy: Sorry to hear about your back troubles, your cold, your lack of energy, your Dad’s surgery and your washing machine. OK, you’ve had your share of stress for the month, hoping things improve now.

Beth: Great job on racing Virginia Beach. I’m glad the medal is something special. It’s good for you to know that you can finish a ½. I’m sure that will help with your training for the next one.

Jackie: Yea for the running!! I’m glad it’s not hurting too much. Belated happy birthday. It would be rude of you not to eat all the wonderful baked goods your friends made for you.

Vicky: Yea for needing new clothes. How very exciting. The condo shopping is exciting too. I’m sure you’re looking forward to the marathon training group. It will be fun to have some others to run with especially once the weather is cold.

The last 2 weeks have been jam packed. We had one last summer vacation, got all the back to school stuff done, sent my twins off to Kindergarten, started soccer (with practices 4 days a week for my DS, and the other day for my DDs.), threw an “almost surprise” bday party for my DH, helped with an all day fund raiser for my twins’ club and much more I’m forgetting. I missed a bunch of runs, ate horribly and was incredibly stressed for much of it. In a way I am glad to be back to work for the routine. I’m not sure how I’m going to manage to keep up with making sure everyone has clean clothes for school, soccer and dance plus food to eat for lunches and dinner all while working. It was hard enough doing all that while being off from work.

I did manage a 12 mile run yesterday. It was a bit slower than I would have liked, but I was glad that I was able to go that far. The previous week I tried and quit after 9.5. Of course this time I did a 12 mile loop that if I had quit I would have had to walk home so it was much easier to keep running. Usually for long runs like that I take some gels with me, but I always worry about what’s in them. I try to eliminate most chemicals from my diet and sort of feel I might be ingesting stuff I don’t need. On yesterday’s run I brought a honey stick with me. They were selling them at the apple orchard near me so I bought some with the thought of bringing them on my run. I really liked it. I got the orange flavored ones. It was easy to carry and eat and I felt peppier after having it. I think I’ll have to go buy some more.

I have plans to run a ½ marathon on Oct. 3rd, but for some reason I haven’t quite committed to it yet. Part of the reason is that I know I’m not in great shape and to spend the money to enter a race I’m not fully trained for seems silly. The other thing is that I’m not sure I have the energy to drive 2 ½ hours to run a race. I think I’m just tired now because of all the stress of the last 2 weeks. I’m hoping I revive a bit and get some of my energy back. My DH and I are going away for the night this weekend and hopefully I’ll feel more rested.

I'm half way thru the weight loss challenge and up until 2 weeks ago it had been going well. I really have been eating horribly lately. I'm pretty sure I'll owe some money to the pot this week. (I took a free pass last week and skipped the scale.) I'm hoping to get back to good habits this week.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Hey Leanies!

I'm making my own cnference break. I got up and ran 4M this morning, much slower than usual. The air really is thinner here. I'm adjusting, but it really surprised me.

Just wanted to let you know I'm still here...

I ate pretty well yesterday for travelling. I ate the provided breakfast which was a bust. Tomorrow it's Kashi bars and an apple for me.I just had a Colorado cobb salad minus the egg for lunch. I'm going to the Corner Bakery for a panini for dinner.

I'd better go down for the afternoon sessions. My room break was lovely!

Maria

Good afternoon ladies. It's good to see some of you back! :)

Maria: It's nice of you to keep us posted even when working out of town! My mom lives in Denver, and I did for a few years, but most of my childhood was spent in the mountains in a little town named Gunnison. I love Colorado. My son and I are going for a mini vacation next weekend. Yes, the altitude definitely affects the running! :sad1: I will have to run one day in Denver before we head to the mountains and do all our hiking, or I will never make it!

Great job on your 5K! How fun! :thumbsup2

Cindy: Happy to see you back here! :) Sounds like you've been crazy busy. What a wonderful, yet sad thing to send them off to kindergarten! I remember that day well.

Great job on the running! 12 is awesome! It sounds like you are ready to get back on track. Good for you! :thumbsup2

Beth: Great job getting it done during the race! :thumbsup2 It's always good to have bling. My medals are all boring. That's why I want to run one at Disney. I'm happy to hear you're already on track for your next race. And, with your healthy diet, you should have a great time training.

Jackie: I'm living vicariously through you with the eating. It all sounds so good! I miss sugar!!!!!!! Great job on your running. 13 miles, wow!!!!:woohoo: Considering where you were just a few weeks ago, I didn't think I'd see you running those numbers until months after your surgery. Just keep up that ice and rest!

AFM: I am doing soooo much better right now! Thank you all for your concern. My back still hurts, but not like it did. I even went to zumba last night and lived! My thyroid levels were normal, but he had me go for a bone scan and thinks I have osteoporosis. Yippee! Just one more thing. He's keeping me on my same thyroid hormone level. I guess it was just the oncoming sickness that had me so drained. My hair is still falling out, but who knows why. My cold is still slightly hanging around, but I'm working through it.

My dad was moved up to the rehab floor yesterday. He gets to learn how to use his leg again. He almost killed his leg. He had an aneurism removed from his knee last month. He never filled his scrip for blood thinners, so he threw 2 clots into his femural (sp?) artery. Because he smoked for 40 years, his other 2 arteries were collapsed. I have been so mad at him for this, it's been hard to talk to him. I love him, but he just never takes care of himself! What's a daughter to do?

The washing machine is still broken. My husband has taken it all apart and has ordered some parts. He said it will be done Thursday night. I've been doing delicates in the sink, and hoping we make it on the rest. I never realized just how dependant I was!

As for running and eating, I'm doing really great again. I decided that I need some motivation, so I'm training for a half again. I don't have one planned, but may just run one on our local trails. I'll have hubby meet me for water stops! I even lifted today, although I had to drop everything down 5 or so pounds from when I quit. Eating is good again. I just am not bringing the junk into my house! The boys are giving me grief, but it's all in good fun.

Have a wonderful day everyone!
Tandy:flower3:

Good morning lean ladies!

Tandy: Glad you are feeling better! I also hear ya with missing sugar.....I really do wish I was one of those people with no problem with sugar.....I, too, miss it terrribly!

Maria: Glad you could check in with us while you are away! Good job getting the 4 miler in!

Cindy: Glad to see you are getting the miles in, even though not as fast as you like! Which 1/2 marathon are you planning on?

AFM: Boy, I am relieved to report that I seem to have gotten my MOJO back! I have put in 16 miles in already this week! I am alot slower than I would like to be, but glad to report that I am no longer needing walk breaks! I even did some intervels yesterday! Slower, but consistent is the words of the week! My breathing is coming back well, and I am not even really sore from the increased mileage.....was sort of expecting that.

My 'plan' (I always have some kind of plan.....but it doesn't usually work!) is to keep running, working on a little speed, and losing 10 pounds by the Richmond race. I think it's doable at this point. It's 2 months away, so that gives me a goal of losing 5 pounds a month. It would be awesome if it were more, but I don't think it will be. The weight loss thing is so slow for me anymore.....it gets depressing. I will only weigh myself (at most) once a week.

I am low carbing (40 g daily), but am eating a little more with higher mileage. Today's 5 miler sort of wiped me, so I did eat a couple of saltines this morning. I have been eating NO carbs for breakfast, which is probably not a good plan with running in the morning. I might get back to 1 piece of WW/high fiber bread in the morning. This morning I just used a pack of saltines.....we'll see if that works!

My dh has just posted yesterday on FB that he is going to lose weight.....I am really in for it now! He doesn't really understand what it all means, so I get alot of guestions from him. I don't mind the guestions, but I do mind if he doesn't heed my advice!!! ;) I am glad he has come around to wanting to get healthy, and I will do all I can. The bad thing for him isn't when he's home (I cook pretty healthy), but he travels all the time and it's hard to make good choices on the road.

I will maybe talk him into taking some things with him....fruit cups, fiber bars, maybe instant oatmeal....to help him avoid eating all his meals 'out'. It's a pain to pack that stuff, but it always helps me avoid bad food!

I hope everyone is doing well. Shout out to Vicky, Debra and everyone else!

Beth

Hi leanies! Sorry I haven't posted in a while - just keeping busy with work and such!

Beth - I have to agree with you on packing lunches and snacks. It's a real PITA especially when you have to bring containers back and clean them out. It is worth it in the end because you save money and have control on what you're eating. WTG on the 16 miles this week! And congrats on Virginia Beach! That is awesome! Do you have pictures of the medal? What are you eating for breakfast right now? I also find it hard to go with the carbs when I do morning runs. I usually try to make it a piece of fruit or something else with high fibre. Yay for DH deciding to lose weight! You have a wealth of information so he should have an easy time with you helping out. Do you have a time goal in mind for Richmond?

Tandy - I like the idea for your own personal half with DH manning the water stops along the way. That's awesome! You should make up your own medal to go along with it. How's your dad doing? He sounds like my dad - you can tell him what the best thing for his health is but he won't necessarily listen. That's always tough because it's almost like you have to stand back and watch because forcing them doesn't work either. pixiedust: for the both of you! Any luck figuring out the cause of your hair loss or was that related to the thyroid problems as well?

Maria - WTG for getting workouts while you're on a business trip. I think it's hard to be 100% on track with eating while you're on vacation but you're doing pretty good. And you've earned any treats you've eaten with the workouts :) How are you enjoying your sessions so far?

Cindy - WTG on your 12 miler! You sound like one of those supermoms - getting in a million things done in a day! Fingers crossed that the scale cooperates this week and you don't have to pay into the pot. Btw, what's a honey stick?

Jackie - WTG on your recent running! It seems like you'll be in pretty good shape going into MCM! Can you go back to work after the surgery or will you be off work for that time as well. I'll start eating more sugar in October how about that ;) I'll be able to avoid it much since my birthday is at the beginning of the month and everyone has Halloween treats floating around the office for the rest of the month. Happy belated birthday! I don't blame you for eating the chocolate cake, it sounds yummy!

AFM - I got an email that my marathon group was cancelled this morning. I think there was only one other person registered. There is another clinic for the Disney marathon but that running store is much farther and doesn't have parking since it's downtown. I could go there straight from work but I don't relish the thought of coming home on the subway in soggy running clothes, especially in the winter. It's also on Thursdays which means I'd have to shift all my appointments around again. What I might do is just go out with their free running group on Sundays. That's when they do their long runs - or I can do them myself. I've already done the 30K race so I know I'm good for 18-19 miles. The longest run on the Higdon plan is 20 miles so I think I should be ok.

The running has been going so-so. I'm having minor problems with my ITB and knee so I'm trying to go slower on the miles and to keep them down. I picked up a patella brace which seems to be working (except for the itchy velcro). I tried it on on a 3 mile run yesterday and didn't have any problems. The 1/2 is coming up on the 26th so I'm a little bit nervous about that because I'm trying for a time of 2:10 or under.

Oh and I'll probably headed off to NYC/NJ sometime in October. Planning to do some outlet shopping and eating. My friend is going to let me stay at his place so that will be great! I thought Disney hotels were expensive until I looked at some of the Hotwire prices! Yikes! I was a little bit nervous about the whole bedbug situation - especially since they were found at a Victoria's Secret store. Yikes!!

Hello ladies. I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. The last one in summer, come to think of it. :sad1:

Vicky: I hope your knee is feeling better. Mine's been bothering me too, but I'm just living through it. A trip to NY sounds like lots of fun! Good for you. I'm trying to work out a trip there as well. We have some friends that have a house about an hour north of the city, so we'd have a free place to stay. I really want my son to see it. The last time we went was in '97. I also want to go to DC with him, so we'll try to combine them.

Too bad about the running group. I think as long as you do the long runs, you'll be fine. I think you are completely ready for that half. You'll get a great time, I'm sure. What was your last half time?

Beth: Great job on the miles! And, I really hope your hubby can do it. It's so much easier to be good when your household is too! ;)

AFM: Things have been great this week. I'm running 4 days a week, which is nice to get back to. I lifted one day and I bought a cool new piece of equipment at a garage sale. It's for pull ups and leg lifts. I need all the help I can get with pull ups.

My dad is home as of yesterday. He's being a lazy bum, so I went over and pulled a Nurse Ratchet on him. I'm officially in charge of his PT, so he doesn't like me right now. He'll get over it! ;)

My cold is officially gone. Finally! I can't believe how long that took to go away.

Eating was good until last night. My hubby took me out for our anniversary (17 years!!!!), and I ate way too many crab legs and 2 desserts. Whoops! I also had about 3 glasses of wine. I instantly was back on track today.

Have a good one everybody!
Tandy

Good morning Lean Ladies! How was your weekend?

I was sad that I had to miss the debut of the RnR Philly race this weekend. I always love that race....great course, good weather.....but I had 2 boys with double header baseball games Sunday, both away. So, I had to take kid#2 to his game, and dh had to take ds#1 to his. My friend Heidi got to run though, and she said the weather was beautiful.

I actually ran 30 miles last week! :cool1::cool1: I was happy with that! I got a 6 miler in on Saturday, with a pace averaging 10:50 to 11:10 min/mile. That is awesome! I have been running SO slow the past several months; it was nice to be able to pick up the pace a little.

I am down about 7 pounds. It was fluctuating for a week or so after VA beach, but now it's pretty solid. I know though if I start running more than 40 miles a week, I will be eating more....seems like if I keep my mileage to under 40 a week, it's easier to control my eating.

My goal is to be down at least 10 pounds for Richmond....seems to be doable.

Check in sometime!

Beth

Hey Leanies!

This is just a very quick check-in -- I can't believe how much I have to deal with at work, so I probably won't get to do a real post today.

Glad to see everyone is chugging along. I am feeling very behind right now, weight up, can't workout for 3 days due to my quarterly hair treatment, still a little jetlagged...but I will get with the program!

Going back to work today will surely help me get things going in the right direction. I was able to do 72 minutes of office laps this morning before anyone else showed up, so that's at least something. I also have a half hour walk downtown later this afternoon, so I'm getting some movement in without perspiration.

The house is stocked and the menus are made, I just need to stick to it in the evenings!

Catch you guys later!
Maria :upsidedow

Happy Monday ladies!

Tandy - Congrats on your 17 year anniversary! What's an anniversary celebration if you can't indulge a little? Did I read your post on the other thread correctly? Are you in for Goofy?? :cheer2: :cheer2: Want to run/walk the full with me - you know I'm not all that fast :) My last official half time was 2:11:22. At the 30K, I managed to get 2:10:12. I'm thinking I'll start out with the 2:00 group but most likely drop back so any time under 2:10 will be good. How's your dad doing? What kind of exercise machine did you get? I'm guessing it was a cable pully system (I don't know what they're called).

Beth - WTG on the 30 miles this week and the 7 lb loss! Keep up with your eating and exercise and you'll be there in no time. Do you have a time goal for Richmond?

Maria - How was your trip to Denver? I always try to schedule my hair appointments for Saturday and then try to get in my run before I go. But I don't really like the feeling of not being able to exercise either. I get my hair colored so I'm told I'm not suppose to wash it for a couple of days. Are you looking forward to the start of Hawaii 5-0? I didn't realize it started at 10PM. I think I might record it and watch it tomorrow.

AFM - Caught a bit of a cold this weekend :( But I'm being pretty aggressive in trying to get rid of it. I took lots of naps, drinking lots of tea, water and orange juice and trying oil of oregano. One of the girls at the office swears by it (it doesn't taste very good).

Running wise, I did an 8 miler on Saturday morning which was so-so. The pacing was slow I suspect because of my knee and my cold. I didn't have as much energy as I would have liked. The hills were a bit hard on the knees too so I'll have my physio have a quick look at it tonight and see what he says. I'm thinking I won't run until Sunday so I can give myself a chance to rest and recover.

This week I'm also working on casting a couple of actors for something that's shooting overseas. Makes me wish that I was an actor or at least right for the role (they need two guys) - the actors have the option of staying on after shooting finishes to tour and vacation. That would be unpaid but airfare to India is expensive enough as it is.

Have a great day everyone!! :wave2:

Good morning ladies! I hope everyone is doing well. We all seem to be super busy right now, but at least it sounds like it's with fun things, like running and families (except poor Maria, who has to work so much right now).

Vicky: Yes, it would be nice to have expenses paid to India, wouldn't it? Even I, who hates to be in front of a camera, would go for that! Especially after reading Eat, Pray, Love!
I almost have Frank talked into marathon weekend. I have so many reasons why it's a good idea. I'm in the best shape of my life, so when else would I do this? Our son is in his last year of elementary school, so I don't want to take him out in January after this year. I will give up the breast reduction for vacation! ;)I am confused though. If you are doing the full, please tell me those times are times for a half. :scared1: Otherwise, there's no way I'm keeping up with you girl! I answered you on the other thread, but you may not have read it. Yes, I think it would be wonderful to do the full together!!!!! My issue is this: I really want to go for a good time in the half, and, because of that, I want to make sure I'm not holding you back in the full. I'm going to be running on tired legs. But, I'm going to try some 10/1 splits in my long runs and see how I do. I normally just run, with no walking. But, I've never done a marathon, and I certainly haven't done one after running a half the day before. So, long answer to your question, yes, I think it would be fun to do the full together and I will try very hard to keep up with you.
Oh, and the machine I bought is a strength station with no pulleys. I already own a Bowflex, so this is just to supplement.

Maria: You will be back on track in no time. You are a very hard working girl, when it comes to exercise! At least you are organized with the food and menus. That's truly the hardest part! How was your trip? Did you get to do any fun stuff while there? Did you ever acclimate to that altitude?

Beth: Congrats, congrats, congrats! You have so many accomplishments this week. 7 pounds is awesome!!!! And, 30 miles, wow! You are the mileage queen! :cheer2: It's got to be tough to have that many away games in one day. Wow! Keep up the good work.

AFM: If you read any of Vicky's portion of this, you will see that I am trying to go Goofy this January. I just want to do it! I would like to push myself and see how far I can go. Also, I want those bragging rights! I've been looking at some marathon training plans, and I am scared!!!!!!!!!:scared1: If (and a big if) I can talk Frank into this, I want to run the half in under 1:45 and then, just relax for the full. I will try to keep up with Vicky ;) Frank's main issue is money (he is Scottish, after all). So, I think I've got the cost down to the barest minimum possible. Plus, he wants to buy a house in Cape Coral, so I told him we should drive and then, spend a few days looking at houses. We'll see. Keep your fingers crossed!

My running has been pretty good. I've managed to get out there everyday that I'm scheduled to, but it looks like the mileage is going up big time.
Eating is going pretty good. I'm on day 2 of newfound vegetarianism. Yesterday was easy. I just wish I didn't have to cook meat items for my family, and then, something different for me. Oh, and I discovered the joys of Greek yogurt. This stuff is awesome. I've just been eating the plain, but I love how thick and creamy it is!

Have a wonderful day ladies!
Tandy

Tandy: Good for you going Goofy! I, myself, couldn't do it, but admire those that can!!! :cool1: Good luck on the trip planning!

Vicky: I am not thinking about time for Richmond, but anything under 2:30 would be great!

Maria: Good job with the menu planning.....that's a huge relief when it comes dinner time!

AFM: Feeling pretty good. Legs are a little sore, but I have been running more the past week than the whole 2 months before that!!! I got up this morning at 4:30 (just woke up, and couldn't think of going back to sleep for only 30 min) so I got 5 miles of intervels done before waking up kid#1! I was way ahead of the normal schedule, but of course kid#2 put a damper on that.....he gets me in the shower with the comment "my magazine order is due today, what are you ordering?" I had only 5 minutes to look and order before he had to be out the door for the bus.....and you know how small the print is on those order forms????? I couldn't see it at all!!!! :scared1: I might be purchasing some cheap reading glasses in my future! ((((never thought I would need them, being totally near sighted!!))))

Eating has been going well, but I am very hungery at times. I was starving by 11:00 am yesterday! It's hard to be in control when you are hungry. I ended up eating a few saltines with peanut butter.....trying to stay away from the carbs, but hunger won out! I brought a little more for breakfast today to try to help. My lastest thing is cottage cheese with low sugar fruit, cinnamon and splenda. I love that!!!! Usually have it after lunch, but ate it this morning instead.

Hope everyone is doing well today!

Beth

Hi leanies!

Tandy - Those are half times  You're much much faster than I am! Sorry, I type this stuff at work sometimes so I forget to go back and re-read what I've put down. The time from the 2:10 time from the 30K was how long it took me to get to the 21.1K (half marathon distance) point in the race. I don't have a time goal really for the full since it's my first. I think I'd like to finish it in under 5:00 but I'm not sure how the last 12K will go. Keep me posted on whether you're able to go or not. Even if we don't get to run together, I'll still say hello at the WISH meet!

AFM - Went for my training session last night and did the usual weights and core exercises. Did some band walking too which is good for my glutes and hips but they are a killer! My PT also did a mini treatment on my left knee which seems to feel better today. I'm trying to make sure I get up every half hour or so to stretch my legs and walk around. I might try and get my knee taped up at the expo if it's still bad on Friday or Saturday. The velcro on the brace is itchy and I don't really want to run with it if I can avoid it.

Oh and about the casting ... apparently, the producer thought I was going to help them with the casting but not get a credit. I'm getting paid but honestly I'm doing the work for a credit in the movie. So everything is on hold until they make a decision on that. They're short on time because they're shooting within weeks so this should be interesting. IMO, I can't believe they'd hold themselves up on something so trivial (which really costs them nothing to give out either). Oh well :)

Have a great day! :wave2:

Beth - WTG on your early morning workouts. I wake up at 5AM occasionally but usually roll over and go back to sleep! This Sunday I think I'll have to get up around then to start eating...

I was going to suggest Greek yogurt because the one that I eat has about 20g of protein for a 1/3 cup. I usually eat it with fruit (strawberries and mangos) and a touch of honey. Have you tried natural PB with Wasa or Finn Crisp (flat bread). Not sure about the carb content of extra firm tofu but I love grilling it on the BBQ (or stove) and adding it to salad. I usually use olive oil and low sodium soy sauce. I'll let you know if I think of any low carb ideas.

Thanks for the idea of adding cinnamon to your cottage cheese! I will give that a shot next time! I usually add a pinch to my coffee :) I've been able to get myself to drinking coffee with cream or milk only - no sweetner or sugars. Not sure if I can drink black coffee but I'll give it a shot one of these days.
