Working on Weight Loss and getting Lean!

Good Morning Lean Meaners.

Jackie: Yahoo!! So glad you were able to run and felt relatively good. How does it feel today? I’m sorry to hear that surgery is most likely inevitable, but it will be good to take care of the problem then put it behind you.

Maria: I like the idea of a gift exchange. Have a wonderful time on vacation. I’m sorry your shoulder is bothering you. Did you do something to injure it? Hope it’s better.

Tandy: Do you have a race planned or are you just doing 12 milers for the fun of it? It’s great that your DH and DS have lost weight. I’m sure you’ll lose that 1.5 lbs soon. My DH went to the doctor yesterday who suggested he lose 5 lbs. My DH is about 50 lbs overweight, so the doctor’s suggestion seems silly. But since the doctor is about 100 lbs overweight my DH figured he must really need to lose some weight or the doctor wouldn’t have mentioned it.

Vicky: Congrats on such a great race. I loved the RR. It was nice of the ex to be so supportive at the race. Having met you in person I would call you tiny. Although from your race pictures it’s obvious that you have very muscular legs as well. Any more encounters with the running jerk?

Debra: It’s at least a good start that you are eating healthy food even if it’s too much. Hopefully you can start dialing it back a bit. Great job keeping up with the running despite such a busy schedule.

Beth: Hope you are getting some cooler weather now. How is the cough, is it gone by now? Are you keeping up with the low-carbs? Hope it has helped with your cravings. You know your speed will come back once you are regularly running and able to breathe. We were both in RI at the same time, probably only 10 or 15 miles from each other. We were in Narragansett. Recently saw a post about RnR Providence Half for next summer, thinking about it….

Jeanne: Loved seeing the pictures of your son’s wedding. Good luck with wedding #3.

AFM: Our vacation was great. We had awesome weather. I didn’t end up tracking any of my meals, though I made some really good choices for the first 3 days (and did my 10 mile LR too). After that each day became progressively worse with my food choices and the amount of food I was eating. I ended up gaining 2 lbs for the week. Compared to past years that’s not bad, and I was able to lose it before my weight loss challenge weigh in. Unfortunately since I’ve been back I have been lacking motivation to get back to tracking. Even the thought of having to pay money for gaining weight isn’t enough to get me tracking. I really need to get back in the groove or the next 8 weeks are going to get expensive for me.

My running has been OK. I’ve done most of my scheduled runs though I skipped one on vacation. I’m still running slower than I would like to, but trying to add some more speedwork into my runs. The next few weeks are jam packed with end of summer fun stuff, so it will be hard to fit all the runs in and to stick to healthy eating. Once we get back to the school routine after Labor Day it should get easier.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Good morning Lean Ladies!

Maria: What happened to the shoulder? I am sorry it's bothering you.....rest is BEST! Have a great time on vacay! Enjoy a Cinnamon for me!

Vicky: Great job on the race! I have to go back and read the race report yet.....but you did fantastic!

Jackie: Yahoo on the run! I bet it felt pretty good to get those miles in! Surgery is never something to 'look forward to' but if it will be a good long term solution......it's worth it!

Tandy: How's it going with the family's weight loss plans? Good job on the LR!

Cindy: It's a weird recommendations to lose 5 pounds when you have 50 to lose......have to wonder 'what is he thinking?' 5 is better than none I guess!

AFM: The low carb continues......it's not going to bad. What I find is that I am not eating alot, since I am not craving what I can eat! I am a bit bored with my choices of food right now.....and that is translated into that I am not eating enough. But, the good side is that I am not hungry either.

I haven't got back on the scale yet.....I used to only weigh in once a month. I don't want to focus on numbers right now, and I am sure the weight will be coming off really slow. I don't want to get discouraged.

I ran 5 miles today (at 5 AM!) The boys are back in school, so my early mornings have started again. I didn't want to get up, but I am really glad I did!

The boys had loaded up LL Bean backpacks this morning! They will be in the same school this year.....and I am glad! They are both up early and gone by 7:15!!! I can get to work on time for once!!!!

My dh has found and bought me a used mini-van!!!! It's really awesome! I love it! It's old (1999) but in great shape! I am enjoying it immensily! My hobby right now is cleaning/vacumming the van! My boys are such slobs....I am constantly yelling at them to clean up their crap! I want to keep it nice, and make it last until the boys are out of high school!

Sunday is my anniversary (the 14th) and my dh is taking me out! My sister is taking the boys to Hershey Park for the day, so we may head to Philly to eat. Can't wait! Hope he doesn't pick Italian! ;)

Beth

Good morning leanies! Thought I'd do a quick posting before I went for my coffee...

Beth - Congrats on your 14 year anniversary!! Can't wait to hear what DH has planned :) If you do end up going to an Italian restaurant maybe you could stick with a fish or chicken dish. But I know what you're saying - I'd be eating all the bread and pasta myself. The new van sounds fun :goodvibes You can take the leanies on a road trip!

Cindy - I saw your photos on FB and Narragansett looks like a beautiful vacation spot! I think you should give yourself a pat on the back for running the 10 miler. Afterall, how many people will run any distance on vacation. And the 2lbs will come off quickly once you go back to clean eating :thumbsup2 I wonder if DH's doctor suggested 5lbs because it would be a weight that would be easy to tackle. But yikes if he's 100lbs overweight himself. I did send the running jerk an email to say why I wasn't going to be running with him anymore. I thought I was polite about it - I said that he said a few things that made me uncomfortable so I would do the running on my own. He replied and said that I should have said something earlier (like when??) and just so I was clear, he wasn't looking for a girlfriend (umm... Okay). But that a work friend would have been nice. Well okay then ... thanks for confirming exactly what I was thinking.

Jackie - WTG on your run!! It must have been an awesome feeling to get out there! How's your body feeling today? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you'll still be able to do MCM! And I'm glad to hear that your new warehouse manager is actually doing work, even if he's making mistakes. I was so  when you posted about the guy who left a huge pile of work behind.

Maria - The Christmas exchange sounds like a lot of fun! Just let me know all the details :) The voice over work was a long time ago ... dubbing Japanese cartoons and shows into English. They were bootlegged even though they were shown on TV overseas so I don't have any copies. No I haven't done a Causeforce event before. The Canadian operations has an event called "The Underwear Affair" which I've wanted to do but I think you have to fundraise a significant amount of money to enter. The last few times I fundraised, I've only been able to raise about $300. Have a fantastic time in Florida and give Mickey a big hug for all of us! Hope your shoulder is feeling better soon :)

Debra - How's your ankle? Did you try taping it up or using a brace?

Tandy - I  at your comments about being chased by the bumblebee in tutu comment! And thanks for the comment about the ex :) It's just one day at a time right now so we'll see. I didn't want to post everything bad about him. Oh and I promise to ship the stuff out to you this week! How did your 12 miler go? Do you have any plans for a full?

AFM - I'm just taking it easy after Saturday. I did a training session on Monday and I told my PT that I was feeling pretty good except my legs were feeling a little tired and my hamstrings were a little tight. So we did core work and upper body weights. He even had me try some one legged pushups - which looked more impressive than they were hard. They were too bad, I think because my leg wasn't up in the air the whole time  He also had me working on some agility ladder exercises which he said will help with my speed.

I'm going to head out tonight and see if I can go out with the running group again. The 1/2 group is doing hills which I feel I should be running but maybe it won't be a good idea so soon after a race. So maybe I'll just go back to the 5K group.

I also picked up a new backpack yesterday. My current gym bag is meant to be carried on one shoulder and because I'm commuting more and using the car less, it's gotten to be uncomfortable to carry. The pack I found is quite big and has a ton of pockets and room for a laptop. It doesn't look terribly huge though so that's a plus. The cool part was that it can also carry a yoga mat too. Here's a pic of it (mine's black):

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good morning ladies. :)

I am REALLY, REALLY, REALLY mad at myself today. I tried to get back to eating healthy on Monday and failed. In fact, I have eaten poorly so far this week. Ugh! Today's a new day. Hubby and I had a "talk" last night after he ordered pizza at 8:30. I explained that he needs to think about his son, who is following right along with his example. He promised to get back to the diet today also. I cut his cigarettes in half, and I think he's compensating with food. But, Harrison and I can't be in the house with the pizza and not eat it! Or, any of the other junk he's eating. So, we're all starting again today. :thumbsup2

Vicky: The bag looks awesome. I love bags, and I mean bags, not purses! :laughing:Did you end up running? It's pretty impressive that you want to run this soon after your race!:thumbsup2

Beth: Congrats on the mini van. My hubby finally talked me into buying one in 2004. I was adament about not being one of "those" moms. But, once we got it, I loved it! There's so much room for everything. I can even fit my bike inside with a little shifting.
Congratulations on your anniversary! 14 years is certainly a success! ;)And, good job on your low carb eating. I wish I could only weigh once a month, but I have an obsession!

Jackie: :woohoo: to running!:woohoo: Awesome! How are you feeling now though?
I think scheduling the surgery over your holiday break is a great idea. It would be nice to have the family take care of everything for you!;) Yeah, right!

Cindy: My hubby had a doctor like your hubbys. He was a good 100 pounds overweight. I went with hubby (who is also 50 lbs over) to try to get him on some sort of plan, or pill, or something. The doctor just looked at me like I was a freak. Of course, most sedentary, overweight people think I'm a freak, so that's nothing new I guess! :rotfl:
Your vacation sounds wonderful! 2 pounds isn't bad at all. And, you did a long run? Wow! Good job!

Maria: I would be up for some sort of exchange, as long as it's an easy one (you did ask for honesty). ;) Maybe an ornament, or some sort of theme. I'm really bad at coming up with stuff, so if we did a theme, I'd have less stress! :lmao:

You are going to have the best time on vacation! I'm so excited for you! I remember our last day at DW in January. We had never had the dining plan before, so we were shocked at the amount of food. We used 0 snack credits until our last day. So, we got 24 snacks at Goofys! We had one suitcase full of snacks! Of course, we got to enjoy our trip for weeks after we got home!;)
Have a fantastic time! I can't wait to hear how it went.

AFM: Well, after my rant at the top of this post, you guys can imagine how I'm feeling. Very sick to my stomach and sluggish. But, I have kept up with the exercise. I took the day off Monday, but did 10 miles with my friend on Tuesday. She wimped out again, and turned around at 5, but she said she's feeling better with the 10, and to give her time to work up to 12. She didn't want to run any of it, so we walked, but it felt good. Yesterday, I ran for the first time in 1 & 1/2 weeks. It was wonderful! I did 5 miles. Today, I'm walking the dog for 5 or so, and then, I want to run again. Although, I'm toying with the idea of inline skating. I haven't done that in a few years, but used to love it. Nothing works the saddlebag area like skating!

Harrison's baseball team is now 3-0. We had a wonderful game last night. The first 2 games, Harrison didn't play well. He was having a hard time fitting in. But, last night, everything gelled and he got 3 hits. So, I'm hoping his coach will see that.

I put the bug in my husband's ear yesterday for my vacation plans next year. I have to do it this way. It's all a little game, but hey, whatever works. My plan is: Go to DW end of September/beginning of October for F & W festival for about 5 days. Then, run the 5K with Harrison in the morning and do the Wine & Dine half that evening (if they do it again next year, which seems likely). Running at night sounds like so much fun! Then, leave the next day for a cruise. That way, I can recuperate on a beautiful beach somewhere. He kind of looked at me like I was crazy, but I have a year to work on him. :rolleyes1 We'll see how it goes!

I hope you all have a wonderful day ladies!
Tandy

Hey Ladies!

Super quick check in between packing and more packing --- I hope you all have a fabulous Labor Day and I'll be back before you know it --- Keep going and I will do my best to boost myself on the wagon when I get back!

I'll wave to Harry Potter for all of you!

By the way, the deep pain in my shoulder is gone and now it is just a little sore. No reason not to bring my running gear!

Maria :upsidedow

Odd thought...this time of year just calls out to buy new backpacks, doesn't it?

Jackie: I replied on 'Ohana before I saw this. WOO HOO for running. That's got to feel good physically and emotionally. I'm so glad the injection seems to have worked and you're back on track. Or road, as the case may be. And that the work situation may be lightening up, which just adds to you turning the corner on some frustrating times.

And that breakfast sounds amazing! That's a lot of people to serve, and a lot of food to prepare. What fun. (To do everyone once in a while.) Cinnamon rolls are a weakness of mine.

What's your current status on / plan for MCM? It seems like you're doing MUCH better than I would have guessed, post-injection.

Vicky: What a great performance on your 30K. You've worked really hard for it and your rocked the race. Or maybe it was the supersized Mac and Cheese! :rotfl2: Well, that and your leanie meals that you've been following up on. No wonder you need the XS shirts. Next year you should totally dress as a fairy; I can see you in one of those outfits. And I do have to say that it's nice that the ex was there to support you. Not as nice as a 3:05:56 finish, but still a nice gesture.

"The running jerk." :rotfl: So accurate, except I do wish the "running" wasn't attached. Gives us a bad name. :lmao:

Sounds like you're sticking with the running group, although maybe (post-recovery) trying another distance or group of regulars? It also sounds like you've adjusted to/mesh nicely with your new PT, and he'll keep you on track with core work, etc.

Tandy: I'm late on the response, but we saw a double bill of Pinter: "The Dumbwaiter" and "Betrayal." His easy plays, but good ones. I love that you got the validation of being the truly fit one between you and your fit friend. Especially because it wasn't a competitive smackdown or anything, just a pleasant discovery. Hopefully it inspires her to increase her workout, too. It certainly sounds like she's willing to push herself a little with your encouragement.

Oh, that eating late at night. It's such a danger, and you're right. DH is setting a bad example for DS. And it's probably related to cigarettes. But (un)healthy eating affects everyone in the whole family. I'm glad you're addressing the issue, as eating like that affects your whole self. As your post says.

I think your 2011 plans for the Food & Wine, Wine & Dine sound perfect. I'm regretting not signing up, sort of, but I can't cover what I need to cover workwise & do a night half. I'd like to be a night runner, as I'm generally a night owl, but it doesn't work that way.

But I'm sure for a vacation & race that's a perfect combination. Eat, drink, run. Not necessarily in that order. And this year's 5K registration fee includes MNSSHP, so that would be perfect for you and Harrison if that is offered in 2011. Especially with a cruise add-on. Now that's a recovery plan.

Maria: Wow, a conference after your vacation. I'm glad you're aware of the disruptions to your schedule & how that can affect your plans. That's what always kills me. But you're going to have a great time at both FL and CO. I want details on the former – and the non-horrifying networking details on the latter. I need the skinny on butterbeer, although skinny it's probably not.

In terms of bigger issues, I'm glad the shoulder issue has passed and you're planning on running.

And I love the Christmas exchange idea! :goodvibes

Cindy: Woo hoo for vacations. Yours sounds better than I think you gave it credit for. You stuck mostly to your running schedule and, to my mind, a 2 pound weight gain isn't significant. (Especially compared to past vacays.) Indeed, I'm always impressed with how reliable you are with working out and eating when busy with family things. I don't know how you manage – and there's still the Labor Day coming up, which I know is a big deal for families.

I can't even begin to parse out the doctor's statement to DH? Maybe it's the manageable "weight loss chunks" idea. But an overweight doctor doesn't inspire confidence in me.

Beth: I'll try to get back on here by Sunday, but if I don't ... HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!:cloud9: I'm sure DH will plan something special, and you both deserve it.

I understand about not being on the scale too often. I've been avoiding it and focusing on hunger, trying to focus on how I feel vs. stress eating or diet mentality. The combination has been a killer for me the last few months. So your approach is sold, esp. when combined with your low-carb plan. And those 5 a.m. mornings. That continues to blow me away.

Congrats on the (new) mini-van. What fun! I do love new toys, tech, and transportation. Vacuuming helps bring back that almost-new car smell, I'm sure.

AFM: Last big weekend here...the crunch before school starts. I know all you parents understand the busy-ness that goes with that. DOOD is *cranky,* as professional things are spiraling out of control. Work issues on his part, which filter into the home life. That's the danger of working out of one's home, especially since we both do it. Can not wait to get my space & time back. Hmmm, who thinks it's time we move into something bigger than a 1 bedroom apt.?

Less about DOOD, more about me. I've had a good streak of running this last week. The weather has cooperated with me and is almost in my perfect zone! :woohoo: I've been taping the ankle and that seems to help; although I still need to find the perfect "fit" for such things.

And I'm super proud of myself...I've managed to wean myself away from lounging in bed in the a.m. or over breakfast and have been getting on with my day an hour earlier than two weeks ago. Doing that's made me feel much more in control over my work output. Yay for me.

Good afternoon/evening ladies. I'm in much better spirits today. Sorry for my outburst! :flower3:

Debra: I could NEVER work at home with my husband. One of us would be dead! :lmao: Although, I think I could handle the one bedroom apt. I like small spaces. I want to downsize again (build something) when Harrison moves out, but have 8 years to find the perfect blueprints.
I'm proud of your running. Great job. You are definitely back on track (pun intended). :thumbsup2
Thanks for the encouragment with my family situation. I hope that hubby has it all under control now, but there's no telling. ;) I have no idea if I'm going to get this vacation or not, but it will take a lot of coaxing, that's for sure. He would be up for a cruise, or DW, but both, and paying for 2 races! Yikes! (He hates to pay to run. Thinks it's silly when I can step out the door and do it for free. He's just not a runner and doesn't get it. )

Maria: Have a great time! Waiting for full report!:)

AFM: I am a much happier girl today. I ended up taking the dog for a run yesterday. The poor little guy had to do 7 miles, but I let him swim in the river twice during that time. He loves to swim. Then, I took him to the off leash dog park this morning and he got to walk a couple of miles and swim for a full 30 minutes. After that, I walked a half marathon. I've been wanting to see if I could walk distance on tired legs. I've always wanted to go Goofy, but know that I would have to race the half and totally walk the full. So, I did half of that in the last 2 days. I don't know if I'm sore yet or not.

Official family weigh in was today. I gained another 1/2 pound, my son gained a full pound and hubby lost 1. So, when hubby saw our son's face, he got it, finally. Harrison was devastated. But, we have lots of tailgating and parties coming up this week and next. I'm going to have to get creative with cooking.

Have a great weekend everyone!
Tandy

I just had to post today with the silliest thing:

My hair is finally long enough for a ponytail!!!!!!!
You all know that I had the very unfortunate boy haircut last August. I've been growing it out since Christmas and I was just able, today, to put it all in except the bangs. But, even they are getting there! I feel like a girl again!

Oh, and no pain at all after the run Thursday and long walk yesterday! :thumbsup2 I'm off to run again!

Have a great one ladies!
Tandy

Hey Leanies!

Just a shout out since I'm posting from my crackberry at SILs -- We're headed to DTD today, then on to RPR and Universal! I can't wait to hit Tren-D and Ghirardelli! I'll make some treats at Goofy's for you! Keep those Leanie home fires burning...and on a purely selfish front, just found out none of the family is coming back for WDW marathon weekend, so no hosting and more WISHing this year!

Maria

Good morning Lean Ladies!

Debra: Yey for you! You are getting back into the swing of everything! Proud of you!

Yes, the new/used mini-van is excellent! I am loving it! My new hobby is washing the car! (Washing it 2x a week!) My dh got me a satillite radio to install, for my anniversay.....the appointment is for wed. to install! Yippee! That makes traveling a whole lot nicer!

Maria: Hope you are having a nice vakay!

Tandy: You are bright and cheery! Glad things are working out better for you. The boys fall baseball games start up after Labor Day.....and they will be mostly double headers..... :( That will be the whole day shot!

AFM: The weekend was lovely. My dh took me to Philly for dinner. We went to Le Bec Fin......ultra fancy, and french! We really did have a fabulous time! We never spend that kind of money for dinner, so it was extra special. The food was amazing, and the dessert cart was to die for! And, yes, I endulged!

The low carb has been going well (except for the detour to the dessert cart!) and I actually have lost 7 pounds since starting. The weight loss will now slow down alot......but I am happy for the jump start of 7 pounds! My clothes already feel better (which I am really glad about).

Hope everyone is well!

Beth

Good afternoon ladies. I hope everyone is getting through their Monday!

Today has been really nice and relaxing. I took the dog to the vet to drop him off for his yearly checkup. Then, since I was out, I drove over to my favorite trail and ran a VERY hilly 5 miles. Home to lay out at the pool (see, it is a really nice day). Then, pedicure, shopping and off to pick the dog up. Yet another person asked me about my airedale puppy. He's a Welsh Terrier and looks like a mini airedale. It's funny really. I didn't mean to get a dog no one had ever heard of. Whoops. Dinner is already made (homemade chicken vegetable soup in the crockpot). And, after dinner, I'm off to zumba.

Beth: Your anniversary dinner sounds wonderful. I am a total cheapskate, but every once in awhile, I love to splurge for a super fancy dinner. As long as the food goes along with the price, that is!

Congratulations on your 7 pounds. That's fantastic. You haven't been doing low carb that long, so it's even more impressive! :thumbsup2

Maria: Keep us posted! Have fun!

AFM: Eating is going okay right now. We had dinner theatre last night, but I did try. Other than the blood orange martini, I did well. And, it wasn't even that good, so it made me mad. I ran every day this weekend and today, so I'm happy with that. I was 2 minutes slower than I wanted today, but those hills were killers. I need to get back to lifting weights soon. I don't want to completely lose my muscles. It's been at least 3 weeks. Yikes!

Baseball was great this weekend. We won one game and lost one but, Harrison got to play 1st, 3rd, and he closed the winning game as pitcher. He threw 9 pitches, all strikes! Gotta love it! :lovestruc

Have a wonderful day, ladies.
Tandy

VERY quiet around here! Where are my friends?

AFM: The low carbing is continuing to go pretty well. I feel better, I think, just being in somewhat of a control! The random eating was getting on my nerves.

I am running about 5 miles a day, but feel like that is all I can do. The VA beach 1/2 marathon may not happen for me this year. I am just getting back to enjoying running again (with a 2 month down period) and if I attempt the 1/2.....it may just set me back again. I am still not decided 100%, but the likelyhood of me running is slim. I am not trained to complete 13.1 miles, and I just have to realize that. Sad, but true!

I want to concentrate on losing the weight.....I am giving it 6 months. I may decided to train for a 1/2 in November....maybe Richmond? That will help me with a goal, but weight loss will remain #1 on the priority list. Since I seem to be most successful doing low carb, I will continue on that track for now. I will have to see where it goes, since running and low carb don't always mix to well!

I am sort of glad that summer is over.....the family is getting back into a routine and schedule. I do better with a schedule! The kids are really tired every night, since they have to get up at 6 AM everyday for school. That also helps getting them to bed at a decent hour at night!!! (((then I can go to bed too! :) )

I hope everyone has a nice holiday weekend!

Beth

Hey Leanies!

Running gear hasn't left the drawer, just not mentally there. Where am I? Carrot cake cookies, DQ Blizzards, caramel pecan fudge.

HP was a big hit -- the butterbeer was so sweet we couldn't finish it! Today we're hitting US. DS can't wait to get back on the Simpsons, he loves it!

We're going to miss our hurricane, dh is very disappointed.

Ok, gotta get moving!

Maria

Hi leanies! Sorry I haven't been around for a while. Did you know today is 90210  Sorry I couldn't resist! I remember watching that show in high school… haven't seen the new version though.

Maria - If vacation isn't the time to indulge a little then how much fun could you have. I'll run a few miles for you this weekend! Don't you wish we could transfer mileage like that  I listened to the HP audiobooks so I'm curious to see what butterbeer is like. Its not really beer is it? Did you go to Honeydukes? You have to post pictures when you get back :)

Beth - Good job on the low carb eating and the 5 milers! And that's fantastic news about the 7lb loss! WTG!! Your anniversary dinner sounded really romantic! And just so I can live vicariously through you - what did you get from the dessert cart :) I agree about September and getting back into a routine. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is an increase in traffic. In Toronto, as soon as school starts, the traffic is absolutely insane for about a month. I guess everyone is back in the city and driving. Are you going to defer your Virginia Beach 1/2 registration to 2011 or are you going to go and just do the race for fun?

Tandy - Congrats to DS on his pitching skills! That's so awesome!! Aside from the trail running, your day sounds heavenly! Pool, pedi and shopping? Sounds like my kind of day!! Can I come and hang out with you sometime? Have you start back on your weights again? I just started deadlifting again last week after a month - talk about major muscle soreness the next day (and the day after that, and the day after that). And the new backpack is great! I like carrying much more than a purse - which means there's probably too much stuff in my purse to begin with. My only complaint is that it seems to generate a lot of static so I'm a little concerned about putting my notebook in there.

Debra - Maybe I'll dress up for the Princess 1/2 in February. I figure since it's less than a month after the January full, I'm probably not going to break any records so I'll do something then :) Yeah, the 3:05:56 was completely unexpected but I think training in the heat and humidity of the summer definitely helped. How's your ankle doing? I'm glad the tape is helping :) If you're up for it and your ankle isn't too sore, one of the ankle strengthen exercises my PT gave me was to stand/balance on a pillow or another unstable surface for about 30 seconds or so. I have to admit that I haven't been keeping up with that  But take care of it - you don't want it to turn into a sprain.

Jackie - Have you done any more running since you last posted? Hope things are staying pain free. Any decisions made on MCM?

Cindy - How's the running been going? I guess the countdown is on to Labor Day and back to school? Are your kids looking forward to it? What grade(s) will they be starting?

AFM - Welcome to my sugar-free September! Well, low sugar because you know how that doesn't work on a long run day. Anyway, my eating in August was pretty bad to say the least. I kept the sugar to the weekends but ate A LOT of it :( I think it mostly went unnoticed because I was running at least 13 miles every weekend. Did I mention that Coffee Crisp bites are evil (but so tasty)! But I'm going to get all that cleaned up and if I can, I'm going to reward myself with a weekend trip to the US in October to go outlet shopping. I wish Canada had some decent outlets - but road trips are always fun!

My PT has me doing a lot of core exercises which is great! Some of them are a bit challenging - I tried a one legged pushup but had to alternate legs because I'm not that strong yet. He also had me doing rows in a plank position with the cable machine. I told him if I can't be a super fast runner at least I'll look like one  So then he started me doing the agility ladder exercises and some plyo stuff. I'm improving but it would be better if I could get rid of my second left foot for some better coordination. See I don't need the (running) jerk to build speed! . My chiro (that I work with on Thursdays) started me back on deadlifts and is going to get me doing chin ups. Does anyone here do them? They're really not easy so I was hoping for a trick of some sort. If I jump, the first one isn't too bad but the next two I can't do without her lifting me up a little bit.

I also started looking for condos downtown. I found one that I really liked that's not too far from work. It was a cute split level with the bedroom on an upper level and a big walk-in closet (well big for a condo). The only thing was that it was a little more than I wanted to spend and it was the unit beside the garbage chute (I was told that can sometimes be noisy). My mom who's an agent is now pushing me towards another building that's less than a 5 minute walk from my office. The pluses for that unit are that it's brand new - it will be ready in November, my cousin lives in the building so if there's ever an emergency I could get him to help out (potentially) and walking home from work for lunch would be nice and the price is good. The downside is that the area isn't close to a grocery, it's close to work (I can just imagine the "You don't live to far from work so can you come in on Saturday" comments) and I can't say I love the floor plan. I wanted a 1 bedroom + den but this is a 1 bedroom only. Anyway, I'm going to check out my cousin's unit and see what the layout is like. My move out deadline is December 2011 so I can't say I'm in a huge rush.

Anyway, hope everyone is having a great week so far! Any exciting plans for Labor day weekend? :wave2:

Happy Saturday ladies.

I'm a little sad. It's Labor Day weekend, which means the end of summer. :sad1:I am a summer person. The hotter, the better. I love the colors of fall, but I don't want it to get cold! Of course, most of you live much farther north than I do, so I know I shouldn't complain. ;)

Vicky: Where do you go in the states to go shopping? Sounds like fun! I hope the condo hunting goes well. I think location tops everything. Is the first condo with the garbage chute in a good location? Being close to work definitely has pluses and minuses. We used to live 30 min. from hubbys work, but, 2 years ago, moved a mile away. He didn't tell anyone! Didn't want to get that phone call. "Can you come in today? You just live right next door!"

Thanks soooo much for the pkg! The belt fits great. The skirts are sooo cute. The purple one is a little snug, but, if I ever lose this weight, it should be great! I do have a question about the belt. Where should it sit? I put it kind of at the top of my hips and it kept riding up while I ran. Do I need to put it lower or just cinch it down? It was so nice of you to pass these things on to me! :)

Maria: Oh man. DQ Blizzards! My favorite! I love georgia mud fudge and have to get the stupid large one every time. I cannot go near a DQ or a Baskin Robbins ever again! :) I was wondering about the butterbeer. I always imagined it would taste like buttered rum, which is so yummy!

Beth: 5 miles a day is great! If you can't do the half, you can't do the half. It's totally okay to not do it! :thumbsup2 I have noticed that, at least in my life, I gain weight when training for a race. I'm just too darned hungry with all those miles. If you want to just maintain your miles and work on the weight loss, you should. I'm glad the low carb is working out so well for you. I can't ever seem to stick to it. And, if you don't stick to it, it doesn't do any good, does it? ;)

AFM: I think I was pushing myself too hard last week and the first half of this week. I just crashed. I have done no physical activity at all for 3 days! I hate to say, I don't even feel bad about it! :rolleyes1 I think I'm going to just relax this weekend and get back to work Tuesday.

We went to a preseason football game Thursday and had such a great time. We live in Chiefs country, but are huge Packers fans. So, when we heard they were coming, we jumped! Unfortunately, Aaron Rodgers was hurt, and didn't even suit up. We still loved it.

I hope everyone enjoys their long weekend (if you get a long weekend, that is).

Good Morning, Leanies!

Last post from SIL's, our flight takes off at 3. We've had a great vacation, and now we're tired and a little sad, but ready to get back to Worf and our lives.BIL is making a huge breakfast, and I know we'll have takeout for dinner, since we won't be settled until 7pm. Tomorrow we are going to make a menu, shop, and I will run! Even if it's only a mile, I am moving tomorrow!

Hi there ladies. I hope everyone has nice relaxing Labor Day plans.

I woke up sick today. Frank has been sick for 2 days, so, of course, I get it! It's a sinus, lung thing. Not bad. I still went for a 6 mile run today. ;) Then, I took Harrison for a 2 mile walk. He actually enjoyed it! Shocker!

Maria: I hope you made it in okay and are shopping right now to get back on track! :thumbsup2 Can't wait to hear how your trip was.

Have a good one ladies!

Happy Labor Day leanies! Hope everyone had a fantastic long weekend! The weather here was cool and sometimes rainy but for an extra day off, I'm not going to complain :)

Tandy - Hope you're feeling better soon! And holy moley going for a run and then a walk too! You go girl! I've never been able to get any Fuel Belt to sit on my hips. That's where I like it but they always ride up to just below my waist. I find I have an easier time with them if I have the bottles in the back! I'm glad the clothes worked out. I have some winter stuff as well (if you're interested) but it's been packed away. You'll fit into the purple skirt in no time :) Just keep up with your clean eating and workouts! For shopping, we usually go to Grove City, PA or we keep going south to visit a friend in DC and hit the outlets there.

Maria - Can't wait to hear about the trip when you get back. Sounds like you're ready to get things back on track now that the vacation is over :) Good for you!!

AFM - It was a chilly weekend that's for sure. I guess the Fall weather is definitely here. Good for running but I keep forgetting I need to bring a jacket when I go out at night! Brr!!

I did a 10 miler on Saturday, 5 miles on Sunday and 5 this morning after training. Training was fun this morning (even though it was hard to get up). We did plyo exercises, core and weights but no agility ladder stuff. One of the core exercises we did was pretty tough. You do a plank on an exercise ball and then use your forearms to move the ball around in a circle. That's really a total body exercise - you feel it in your arms, core and legs! My new PT Tyler is going to be changing his schedule in October once the new physio is ready to go. So it looks like my Monday sessions are going to be up in the air again.

Also did some more condo viewing on Saturday. Found another that I liked but I still don't have the government tax credits yet for our movie. It's frustrating! But I noticed on the building (which is all lofts), a lot of lockboxes on the outside so I think that means there's a lot for sale.

Anyway, I'm off for brunch! Hope everyone is having a great day! :wave2:

I figured I'd better post, or we may move to page 2!

I'm still sick. It's getting worse. I went for a walk yesterday, but I just don't think I can today. Plus, my dad ended up in the ER 2 days ago and had to have emergency surgery. So, I've been busy at the hospital. He's fine, but will have a decent length recovery to look forward to.

My weight loss just isn't happening. I've been eating pretty great, but I'm stalled out. I'm going to my endocrinologist today. I hope my thyroid #s give me an answer. I also don't have any energy, which just isn't like me. I've been on the same amount of thyroid hormone replacement for about 4 years, so maybe it's time to adjust. I don't feel as bad as I did back then, but I don't feel like myself. :sad1:

Vicky: I did have to turn the belt around! My arms kept hitting the bottles. Funny. I found a spot kinda low that worked out. It's just trial and error, apparently.
I read about your review of the plank on the ball and ran down to get my ball and try it. I forgot that my son took my exercise ball to school! Oops! His teacher lets the kids use those, instead of chairs. It's great, but now I don't have my ball! Oh well.
How's the sugar free month going? After my dad's little emergency, I told the boys that I am done with this diet cheating stuff they keep doing, and we're going super low sugar. Also meaning no white carbs. They both realized how very serious I am and haven't argued yet. ;)

I hope everyone's doing well. Hope to hear from the rest of you soon!

Good morning ladies!

Tandy - pixiedust: Hope you're feeling better soon! And your dad too - that's pretty scary! I'm glad to hear that the surgery went well. Here's hoping for a speedy and uneventful recovery! And I think it's awesome that you're standing your ground and saying no to the sugar and white carbs. It's a little tricky to work out everything at first but you'll see some awesome results after a few weeks! If you go back to a regular diet after that, you'll notice how "sweet" everything is, including white bread.

AFM - Well, it's gotten a lot cooler here in the last week which is great for running. I'm a little unprepared because I don't have any long pants or shirts. Things from last fall don't fit anymore which is a good thing sort of. Anyway, I'm going out at lunch to see what I can pick up. I also started de-cluttering my room and got rid of three bags of clothes. I saved a few pieces that I like and am thinking of having them taken in. I've never done that with clothes before so I'm not sure if it's worth the money - maybe I should just buy new?

This is the first week of training for the full but my marathon group got postponed until September 21. They're having trouble getting people signed up so they've moved it back. But I'll train on my own until it starts or just go with the Wednesday running groups until then. And... there are only three weekends left until the half at the end of the month. Where does the time go?

Have a great day! :wave2:
