Working on Weight Loss and getting Lean!

Hello friends,

I"M BACK......with a vengence! I just realized the first of our 2 weddings is less than 4 months away and momma wants to look good at the Big Fat Greek Wedding. I saw my doctor yesterday and finally got the clearance to basically do whatever I want so I really need to get cracking.

Sorry I've been away so long. I had to deal with alot of issues regarding the closing of my husband's business and his relocation to another state. I think things are starting to settle down. Then there was my little surgical "speedbump"......I am happy to report that I am nearly fully healed and most of my complications have been resolved. Three weeks ago, the doctor did a little mini-procedure in his office and things really began to improve quickly afterward. (Beth, you'll be pleased to know that that Nancy knew exactly what needed to be done and called it first.)

I very quickly read over the last 10 or so pages of posts......I can't personally comment to everyone, but just had to give a shout-out to the following:

Maria: so sorry I didn't get to spend any time with you, but I did see you looking good during the half.

Connie: sorry it didn't turn out well for you but the most important thing is to listen to your body. It sounds like not all was in vain though because you garnered so much valuable information from your training.

Cindy: sorry I didn't get to meet you at the POP gathering. Congrats on an awesome 2 races....even more impressive because of your stomach issues.

Jackie and Bill, Debra and DOOD: congrats on your Goofy achievements. Somehow I think I already congratulated you guys, but probably not on this thread. :confused3

To everyone else I missed: :grouphug:

Jeanne: Welcome Back! Glad to 'see' you again! I am also glad to hear that you are on the mend. Yes, I have complete faith in our Nancy.....she is really good at her job! So, what's your goal for 4 months? We will support you all the way!

Maria: I am proud of you. You really know what to do for yourself to get back on the 'horse'. Many people can't do that......that one day leads to another, and they just quit! You are not one of those people anymore.

P90X is a great workout......but I can't do everything that they are doing on the DVD. Tony Horton says "do your best, and forget the rest!" I am happy to say that I can do that with no problem! I am hoping to be able to do a few unassisted pull-ups eventually! (((Could NEVER do them!)

AFM: I ended up missing day#8 of P90X last night. Came home from work with a fever, chills and a cough. Was sick all night! My fever broke before I got up though.....so I will be heading to work since Nancy and I have some inservices to get done today.

I didn't get up to run either.....knew that it wouldn't get done, since I still feel crappy. I don't know if I will get P90X done, or a run......I don't think I can handle both! :scared1:

Beth

Good Morning Lean Ladies,

Jeanne: Good to see you here. I’m glad you’ve recovered from the surgery. The weddings will be great incentive for getting back on the Lean Mean wagon.

Maria: Hope you are able to get the jump start you need. And if that’s not happening, you are right, just doing a little is better than nothing.

Vicky: I hope you enjoyed Lost last night. I never started watching, but have heard so many people love it. I’ll have to look for it on DVD. Congrats on lifting 135 lbs. That’s really impressive. That’s about what all three of my kids combined weigh, I can still carry them all at the same time, but it’s not easy.

Beth: I’m glad you are starting be more aware of how strong you are. That really is a great feeling. You’ve earned it. Congrats on your workout streak. You’ve inspired me to try something similar. So far I’m 2 for 2 in February. Good job with the weight loss. I'm sorry you weren't feeling better. Hope you are on the mend.

Debra: Good job on your workout streak. It is hard to add in new stuff. It takes effort, and sometimes it is just easier to do the same ole, same ole. But usually you are rewarded when you push yourself to do something new. Good luck with trying it. Congrats on the weight loss. Slow and steady and you’ll get there.

Manda: Hoping your weather warms up soon. Funny how your treadmill has a mind of it’s own. Stick with it and it will whip you into shape.

Connie: Hope you had a happy birthday. Good job eating well and seeing the results.

Rubato: Welcome back. Good job running on vacation. I hope your training plan is off on a good foot.

Hello to everyone else.

I have an appt. with a GI this afternoon. I hope we are able to figure out soon what the problem is. I’ve been eating way too much because that’s the only thing that seems to make it feel a little better. I’m trying to get back into a workout routine. I made it to the pool twice last week and have begun my training plan for the April marathon. I am going to try to slowly ramp up my exercise on non-running days to help combat a few of these extra calories. I’ll let you know how it goes at the Dr.

Have a great day.
Cindy

Good morning Lean Ladies!

Just a quick drive-by. I have beat the snow storm to the grocery store. You know the one...it's 45 miles from here!

Thanks to everyone for the Happy Birthdays! I really appreciate them.

It's great to hear everyone doing so well. I may have to check out that P90X, I guess I could give you a real hug now, Jeannie. Good job, Maria! Howdy, Rubato. Hello to everyone I missed!!!!

Have I mentioned that I have lost 9 lbs? I have started my first week of training for the OKC half. I still feel really tired, though. Gotta run!

See ya! Connie :grouphug:

Connie: congrats on the weight loss....and a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

Beth: A big thanks for all you do to keep this thread up and running! I meant to say that yesterday, but somehow forgot!

OK, someone please tell me what P90x is. :confused3:confused3:confused3

I got Wii Fit Plus for Christmas but haven't taken it out of the box yet because of my issues. I'm ready to get started, but I am so technically challenged I don't know if I could even set it up without a kid in the house to direct me! Does anyone have any good Wii Fit programs they recommend?

I am still hovering near One-derland....for some reason I just cannot get there. Obviously, that is one of my goals for the upcoming weddings. I guess my biggest goal is just to lose weight and also work on reducing my arms. Most of the MOB or MOG dresses I've seen are either sleeveless or have a very sheer jacket. My small goal this week is to do my 200-crunch routine every night and drink more water! Yesterday, just before bedtime I realized that I had only drunk about 20 oz. of fluid all day....and that includes the bottle of water during spin class! I quickly gulped down a 16.9 oz bottle of water which of course meant I needed a middle of the night potty visit. The sad thing is I carried a water bottle around all day and never once took a sip. Geez, at least when I was drinking wine, I got some fluids in! Do we have any mean-lean challenges in the work? I always do best when I'm held accountable. :thumbsup2

Jeanne: P90X is from a company called Beach Body. The trainer who does it is Tony Horton (it's the BEST info-mercial around!). He had a basic Power 90 workout in the early 2000's that I got (and loved!). The X part now means Extreme......and it is. It's an extreme workout series of DVD's (there are 12 of them) that covers strength training and cardio. A friend of mine had it, so I borrowed it from her. (((((it's pretty expensive to buy....like /$120))))))

I just couldn't spend the money on it, but have wanted it a long time! When I found out Heidi had it, I just had to borrow it! It's 90 days from start to finish......each DVD is about an hour in length, except the Extreme Yoga.....that is an hour and a half.

So, basically what I have been doing is running in the early morning, then I do the Power 90X workout in the evening. The hope I have is to get rid of my back fat, and my jelly belly! The P90X also comes with a nutritional plan to lose weight too, but I am not following that part. I am watching what I eat, but not going hard core since I am running alot too. I am not looking as much at weight loss right now (though I would like to lose 15 pounds or so), but I can't decrease what I am eating now or I can't get my workouts in!

The P90X would help you with the arm jiggle! (at least I hope so!)

Beth

Debra: Congrats on 70% of the chunk! Sorry about the changes at the gym. I haven’t joined a “real” gym yet. We have a membership to the local rec center, which includes a pool, a weight room with treadmills and stuff, and the teeny tiny indoor track. I don’t know if paying for a real gym would make me go more often out of guilt.

Beth: I was researching P90X (because DH wants to do it – his friends are doing it and he doesn’t want to be the uncool kid). I don’t think we are ready for it, and thought about getting P90 and seeing if we actually do it. After the half on Valentine’s day we don’t really have any races for a while, so it would be a good time to mix it up and do something other than running all the time. Hope you feel better soon.

Vicky: I don’t know if I even want to know what the Spiderman Crawl is, but I am glad I don’t have to do it! What did you think of Lost (good to know there is another Lostie here). I am usually OK to watch the episodes later on the Tivo, but I wanted to watch this one live! I think the show has gotten too weird for DH, so I am watching it by myself. But I enjoy it.

Maria: Glad yoga made you feel good. It is always nice to feel better when you are done than when you started.

Jeanne: Welcome Back! Glad things are finally settling down. It is hard when life gets in the way.

Cindy: Good luck with the Dr. Hopefully they will be able to help you out.

Connie: 9 pounds! Great job!

AFM: Monday I was stuck in bed with a migraine. I didn’t do anything but sit in the dark for the hours after I got home from work. It was no fun. Yesterday we went to the gym and ran around the tiny track there. It takes about 19 laps for a mile, so I don’t keep track. I have no idea how far I went, but we were moving for about 45 minutes and warm up and cool down, so I credit myself with 3 miles. I am hoping to get on the treadmill again tonight. DH went to the gym with me last night and I think he will be too sore to go tonight (he pushed it much harder than I did.)

Thanks for the explanation, Beth. it sounds a little bit too hard-core for me! My goal today is to go upstairs and at least TRY to get Wii Fit working.....I'll report back later.

Hi Leanies!

Cindy - Yeah, it's close to my body weigh (or at least what it should be *ahem*). Good luck at the doctor's this afternoon! I hope they're able to give you some answers.

Beth - Wow! I had no idea the PX90 series was so expensive! I like the Tony Horton quote you posted - it's a good one to remember. I also hope to do some unassisted chin ups too. Do you have one of those bars in your doorway to practice on?

Jeanne - The Wii Fit is pretty easy to install if you've already got the Wii set up. I think it was just a matter of popping the disc in and then putting batteries into the board. IIRC, the game recognizes the board and syncs it for you. Otherwise, there should be a red button inside the board that let's you manually sync.

Connie - WTG on the 9 pound loss!! Good luck getting to the supermarket today. I hope you don't get too much snow.

Manda - I think the episode answered one question last night (the black smoke monster) but then there's so much more I want to know  And is that an alternate reality in the flashes (or I guess everything is in Lost). Loved Terry O'Quinn! He did an amazing job as always!

AFM - I missed my run this morning because of my early dentist appointment and my blood test because I forgot to fast. I ate some popcorn during Lost and then remembered I shouldn't have been. Will try and go for the blood test sometime in the coming weeks.

I tried out a new dentist since my last dentist flaked out on my last appointment - The hygenist had to spend a lot of time cleaning under my gums. I asked if it was because I flossed infrequently and she said the previous dentist hadn't done a good job and it wasn't my fault. Well that was a first ... She also told me not to use Listerine because it the alcohol wears away at the gum tissue. Didn't know that either but as I was leaving I did notice several bottles of Listerine in the office :confused3

Planning to do some of my yoga DVD tonight and will weigh in. I don't expect it to be good because the eating has been so-so and it's my TOM. But we'll see :)

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Vicky: I HATE the dentist! Always have had a little dentist 'phobia'. Thankfully I have found a really good one, who was very patient with me....now it's not so bad. Since I have started my early morning runs....I make sure I floss everyday.....figuring that I was starting a new habit, it might as well be 2 new habits! I am proud to say that I have maintained both for about a year!

The mouthwash Act is supposedly better than Listerine....with the enamel thing.

Jeanne: We just got the new WiiFit plus and the boys are loving it! The obstical course is our favorite!

Beth

Good Afternoon, Lean Ladies!

Sigh. Still not much to report, but I hope to change that. I have a workout planned for when I get home today. I'll let you know what happens...I eat fine during the day, it's just after dinner...I'm hoping that with the workout, I'll have less time to eat. :rotfl:

Vicky -- You are on a roll with all your health appointments! Good job taking care of you! :thumbsup2 I'm trying the citrus Listerine, and I'm not sure I like it...I did try Crest ProHealth, and I liked that...

Manda -- Oh my goodness, I could never run at that track! What persistence you must have...I would just go crazy on loops like that

Beth -- You are such a warrior! I smiled broadly when I read you were proud of me -- what a wonderful compliment! :flower3:

Connie -- 9 lbs?! :dance3:

Cindy -- I really hope the GI can help you!

Jeanne -- I didn't see alot of WISH scream team on the course, so seeing you and John and having you scream my name is one of the highlights of that shivery day! :cheer2:m I am so glad to see you back here! I kind of stopped dropping weight last month, just a lb here or there. Now you are back we can forge down the scale together. :cool1:

Debra, Corinna, Wendy, Rubato :wave2:

Hello, Leanies! No more spoilers about Lost, as I haven't finished watching it yet! :goodvibes (JK, don't worry about me. I watch and rewatch, and head scratch.)

And great big welcome back to Jeanne! It's great to hear from you, despite all your business. And even better to know that your surgery's complications have been taken care of. Of COURSE you're going to look smokin' hot for the weddings. You already are, IMO. :thumbsup2 That said, we're hear to support you in whatever goal you set, including the arms of steel. Cindy said it for me, but weddings & other occasions are great incentives! Let us know how you like the Wii Fit!

Yes, a lean-mean challenge would be good for all of us, I think. I could get on board with the water one myself. I tend to drink like you, when I'm working out or late at night. Not such a restful sleep. :rotfl2:

Beth: I'm with you--I like the losses on the scale, but would much rather build muscle than worry about the pounds. And I have dreams of someday being cut, although my body type doesn't make that likely. It sounds like P90X is one good alternative for achieving a leaner body, though. I do like the attitude that one should do what one can, rather than take an "all or nothing" approach. Which is how a lot of us look at exercise!

I've been looking on my local Craigslist for a copy, but so far I haven't seen an offer that 1) I would pay for or 2) I would trust. As much as I hate to admit it, sore muscles actually sound appealing to me these days. :rotfl2: Like to know that things are working.

SOOO sorry that you got hit with illness. Not that there's ever a good time for that, but just when you're getting into the Horton program. AND right before Superbowl weekend. Ugh.

Vicky: Balaclava? I didn't know it was called that. (Of course, I initially read that as baklava, so what do I know.) Deadlifts at 135 pounds! That's more than you weigh, isn't it? Wowsa, and you're one to follow! (I left this last one in, because I was delighted that I was spot-on, as I can never tell what someone weighs.) I hadn't heard that about Listerine. Huh.

Maria: Great job with the yoga--it's soooo hard to take that first step getting back into good things. Yet so easy taking that first plunge into slothdom and decadence, at least for me! You're doing the right thing with giving yourself permission to take one mile at a time! :goodvibes That means, of course, that I'm anxiously waiting your report of what you did tonight...:cool2:

Talking about changing up the routines, for me, is MUCH easier than doing it. I often feel overwhelmed with my lack of a daily routine work-wise and in other areas, so it's too easy for me to stick with the what I'm comfortable with. (Like what Cindy said.) Although I would imagine it's easy for anyone to stick with the tried-and-true routine. I post that I want to change things up so you all can hold me accountable. :rolleyes1

Cindy: I'm very glad you're going to the doctor to see what's going on, GI wise. Your stomach issues just sound so uncomfortable, if not downright painful. How much does it interfere with your running and other training? Congratulations on your 2-for-2 streak and for addressing your illness proactively. (I tend to put off going to the doctor's.)

Connie: FABULOUS job on the 9 pounds. I'm sorry about your diagnosis - not to mention all the problems - but I'm really impressed with the healthy changes you've made and the results.

Manda: Ouch, a migraine. And an especially bad one. I'm sorry and hope I didn't jinx you somehow. :confused3  I'm impressed that you could stick with one of those small tracks at a gym--it would drive me CRAZY! So, your DH wants to be a cool kid. That might work in your favor, somehow. As so many of us here are cool....you just tell us what you want, and suddenly I'll tell you it's the newest, hippest, thing. :woohoo:

AFM, Long responses:

AFAIK, Vicky, no employer discounts for gyms. Our healthcare here in Pgh is pretty much a monopoly, and their idea of preventative medicine is to force you to go to multilple drs. appointments or they raise your rates. That way, they know all sorts of numbers, numbers that don't reflect your health per se, so they can raise your rates. Catch-22. There's been lots of complaints about it, but nothing's changed yet. One of DOOD's friends, an ultramarathoner, got tagged for being obese because of his muscle. The insurance company doesn't want to listen to his doctor, who doesn't want to go the extra mile anyway. :confused3 It's a mess.

Anyway, no discounts at the gym for me. We'll think about switching gyms, but that price isn't exorbitant around here--at least for where we live in the Pgh area and the type of gym it is. Unfortunately. (Hard-core weight-lifting gyms are much cheaper, strangely enough.) It does make me go regularly, and yep, it's out of guilt Manda!

Beth, I actually attribute the weight loss to three things: 1) I gained that Goofy weight, which means I had more to drop off; 2) streaking means I'm more active every day, which I know is better than working out in large chunks more infrequently; and 3) less of the noshes, the extra stress-eating I was doing. I actually think I eat as much now or more than I did a couple of months ago--in volume--but it's healthier stuff.

I hope I can keep the streaking and eating well up next week--I've been called in for possible jury duty starting next Wed. That ought to put a crimp in my lifestyle. :rolleyes1 I did get in my WOs today, despite some crunch time with work. And I'm planning on getting out for a run fairly early tomorrow! :woohoo:

Hey Leanies!

Just a note before I slip into the land of Nod...I did 5M of incline walking when I got home tonight. Baskets of laundry are sitting in my bedroom, and I have watched nothing but General Hospital...but my workout got done. Every streak begins with Day 1, right? I plan to pop up at 4:30 and run. I'm going to bed shortly to make sure I get enough rest to make it so.

Maria :upsidedow

Good Morning!!

Maria: Great job on the 5 miles. Laundry will wait. Congratulations on your streak, even if it’s just 1 day (hopefully 2 by the time you read this).

Debra: Hope you got your early morning run in today. Good job on cutting back on the unhealthier snacks. Even if it’s routine, it seems to be working for you right now. The stomach problems haven’t interrupted the running too much other than it causes me to eat all the time so now I have an extra 8 – 10 lbs I’m carrying around with me.

Vicky: Do you usually weigh in at night? I’m far too chicken to do that. Hope you enjoyed your yoga. Don’t put off that blood test too long.

Manda: Sorry about the migraine. I’m glad you were able to get out to the gym the following day. The first marathon I trained for was on a similar track to yours. I tried counting laps, but it was impossible. I ended up just running for a certain length of time.

Jeanne: I hope you got the Wii Fit figured out. Luckily my 8 yr old can take care of all that stuff for me.

Connie: Great job on the 9 lbs. It’s not a surprise you’re feeling tired though. Once your body gets used to this new way of eating for you I hope you get a bit more energy.

Beth: It’s great that you were able to borrow the DVDs. So is the plan to just cycle through the 12 DVDs for 90 days? Having 12 different workouts should help in keeping it interesting. Keep with it, you’re doing great.

My appointment with the GI yesterday went well. First off the doctor was fabulous. She listened to me and actually heard what I was saying. She didn’t interrupt me. She was honest in that she wasn’t sure what was going on. She said it’s probably an acid issue, but since she was unsure, she is sending me for endoscopy. Unfortunately I can’t be seen for 3 weeks for that. In the meantime she switched one of my medicines and was very clear on the timing of when I should take it which apparently I had been doing wrong with the other meds. I left there feeling much more positive than I have been in a while.

The one scary thing is the nurse had me get on the scale. I’ve been avoiding it since we came back from Disney because I know how much eating I’ve done. I’ve gained close to 10 lbs since Christmas. I’m giving myself some slack about it since it’s been the only thing that has helped my stomach, but boy will I have a lot of work to do once I get it all straightened out.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Yeah Maria! I AM proud of you. You should be too. I know how hard it is to get back on the 'horse' and you did it! The laundry will wait, trust me on that! I have to say, alot of the jobs I need to do take awhile to get to, because I prioritize exercise over most of it! I don't know if that is right or wrong, but it works for me!

When the professionals tell us to adopt a 'healthy lifestyle', do they know what time committment that takes? :confused3 I don't really think so. It is one of my pet peeves, actually. To get 1 to 2 hours of exercise, avoid fast food, and cook healthy, takes a HUGE amount of time. Sometimes I even wonder how I can get it done......I tend to be a procrastinator, and a bit lazy. It's the one thing I am actually proud of!

Yes, Maria, a streak always starts with day 1! And, you got it done!

Debra: I don't like the sound of a gym 'monopoly'! Not a game I would appreciate! Boo to that. And it sounds like insurances believe in the myth of the BMI! Totally not fair to the fit/muscle bound folks. I would have a problem with that!

You are doing a marvelous job of the lifestyle changes....even though it's not easy. Noshing is my favorite hobby! (Truly miss it, but visit once and awhile popcorn::) I do think you would have terrific response to P90X. It might help to get a 'new' workout for you! I do know what you mean with cost.....that's why I didn't get it before! I am really lucky I found someone who has it! If you can find it on ebay, or craigslist, it is well worth it! I do like Tony Horton's attitude with "do your best, forget the rest". I found that I could do more yesterday.....it was the second day I did chest/shoulders. I could do more push-ups, and even did some 'real' ones! Most of those are on my knees. I hold my form better on my knees, and can get more done. I pushed myself a little more. I did get a pull-up bar for over my door frame, and it made a big difference. The first time I used the band instead. The bar worked better, but I did use a chair for assisted pull-ups. I do plan on being able to do some unassisted eventually.....one of my goals!

I am sore today......and I am looking at 13 miles today on the 1/2 marathon training plan. I am glad to be getting it done today, since snow is coming tomorrow. My friend Heidi is braving the cold with my today to get it done! I am thankful to have her along.....it's easier to run long with someone else!

I hope the rest of the Lean Ladies check in today. A big shout out to Manda, Jeanne, Connie (WTG on the 9 lbs!), Rubato, Vicky, and Cindy (good luck with the doctor's app!). Lets make today the best we can!

Beth

**Connie: we were posting at the same time! I am glad you found a doctor who listens! That is rare, I'll tell you! I hope that things work out and the new med does the trick!

I have to be super quick this morning -- I need to catch a cab to a meeting. I just want to report that I'm up to 2 days on the "streak"!

I got up this AM and ran 5M on the TM! :woohoo: I have a meeting this afternoon which will allow me to go home a little early, so I'm planning another 5M incline walk.

Everyone have an awesome day!

Maria :upsidedow

Jeanne: Did you get the Wii Fit going? I still like mine, haven’t used it much since the treadmill came back, but it is fun. As I have said before, the part I don’t like is when it weighs me and then makes my cute little Mii get all fat. She shouldn’t have to suffer because I ate a brownie

Vicky: I have never heard that about Listerine, maybe I will ask my dentist when I go in next month.

Beth: I haven’t tried the obstacle course yet. I guess that is something fun for me to do tonight. Good luck on the 13 miles. It is great that you have someone to run with. I am so slow that there is no way I could fit that in on a week day!

Maria: Good job getting the work out in. 4:30!?!?! Now I feel guilty for complaining about getting up at 6 this morning. :guilty:

Debra: Our insurance doesn’t have any kind of preventative medicine benefits, but at least we don’t get analyzed like you do. My BIL’s company will pay for him and his spouse to complete in two races a year as part of their stay fit program. I wish we had something like that. It would make it easier to afford this new habit of mine. :yay:

Cindy: It is wonderful that you found a good doctor that will listen to you. That is the hardest thing to deal with, when the doctor just doesn’t care. Sorry that the stomach problems have messed with your weight. Hopefully it will all get figured out and you can lose it quickly.

AFM: I was running all around shopping last night, so I didn’t save time for exercise. I told myself that if I had dinner before 7 I could get on at 8 and still get an hour in, but I didn’t. I ended up playing video games with my DH. Oh well. I tried to make up for it by getting up this morning to exercise, something I have been trying to do for a while, but I have just been too tired. I did get up at 6 and put 4 miles in on the treadmill before work. I hope to do some more tonight when my DH goes to play basketball with the guys.

On the eating front I did horrible yesterday. I started good, and I don’t know if it was stress, TOM, or what, but I just couldn’t resist the candy! Then when I got home from shopping we flipped on the TV to the food network (I should know better) and it was a Bobby Flay Throwdown – they were doing brownies! So what did I do, I ran upstairs and made a pan of brownies. :scared1: I only ate one, and only made a small pan, but with everything added together it was a really bad eating day. I still wrote it all down and I am ready to put it behind me and do better today.

Hope you all have a great Thursday! :cheer2:

Hi Leanies! Almost Friday ... I'm half looking forward to the weekend. I have a 13 miler on Saturday so I'm not sure how that will go. At least the weather will be sunny! I've found that some of my not so good runs were on days where it was lightly snowing or cloudy.

Manda - I think this is the part where I'm glad I have no baking or cooking skills because I probably would have done the same thing. Of course, I'll just run out for a sweet treat instead  Glad you got in the 4 miles this morning! I think morning workouts are always tougher when its your TOM...

Maria - With you and Manda posting about morning workouts, I'd better get on it too! My excuse this morning was TOM and supposedly slippery roads. WTG! Hope you're able to get in your 5 miles this evening! That would make a total of 10 for the day!! :thumbsup2

Cindy - Sorry to hear about the gain! I don't think you should feel bad about it. It's hard to keep control when things are out of whack with our bodies. I'm glad you have a doctor who's listening to you - I think that's a rare find. I hope the adjustments to your meds work out. Keep us posted :)

Beth - I'm glad you have someone to do the 13 miler with you! It makes the time go by faster when you have someone else with you. I forgot to ask if you're training for a race and which one. Do you find the home chin up bar to be solid? I have this picture in my head of me pulling the door frame down.

Debra - Love baklava too!! Well, 135 lbs is what I weighed back in October ... before I started indulging in Halloween treats and Christmas goodies. Thank goodness I was training for the 1/2 because I think all the running kept the weight from ballooning past 3.3 pounds. I started eating cleanish again so 135 is what I expect to weigh in a few weeks! I think when you saw in January, I was probably closer to 140.

We don't get discounts on gyms either. My employer is huge too - the best they can do is to circulate email (infrequently) about tips on eating well and getting in exercise. I have friends at other companies where they get a fitness allowance for the year - so they can choose how to spend it - fitness equipment like bikes, gym memberships and even running shoes. Where do I sign up?

AFM - I braved the scale last night and it said I'm down 2 pounds. It seems strange because I don't feel lighter - just bloated. But maybe that's TOM or maybe the scale is broken  I have a meeting with my nutritionist tonight so it will be interesting to see what she says.

I recently went to a tea specialty shop on the recommendation of a friend. I bought a bunch of loose leaf teas - actually that's all they sell. The loose leaf is much better than the tea you can get at the supermarket. Even the black teas they had were great! There's also apparently an entire art to making tea - For example, the ladies there were telling me that green tea isn't suppose to be made with boiling water. You bring it to a boil, let it cool for 3-6 minutes and then pour it into your tea leaves. All this time I've been burning my green tea  Who knew!

Have a great day everyone!! :wave2:

Jeanne: Did you get the Wii Fit going? I still like mine, haven’t used it much since the treadmill came back, but it is fun. As I have said before, the part I don’t like is when it weighs me and then makes my cute little Mii get all fat. She shouldn’t have to suffer because I ate a brownie

Yes, I did get it all set up....the hardest thing was getting the remote to work!.....and I have to laugh at what Manda wrote. My Wii says that I am obese (no surprise really) and my poor little Mii just got a big frown and ballooned up. Too funny! I didn't know that darn thing had a built in scale, which is good because now I have to be accountable. Don't wanna make my Mii unhappy.

I really wish I was not alone last night when I set up the system....seriously laughs like that are meant to be shared. I can't tell you how many time I nearly peed my pants because it was ridiculous how bad I was. Plus, my Wii Fit age is several years higher than my real age so I must be really terrible. I only got to hula-hoop and try the balance bubble last night. I am so pathetic.....I got about 7 or 8 fails before I got the bubble to travel....... all of 3 yds! Now I can't wait for the weekend to let my hubby have a go at it.

Vicky: congrats on the weight loss....2 pounds is still a move in the right direction and should not be dismissed. Way to go!

Any time you want, give me a call and I'll come Wii with you. I don't have one yet, but the one time I tried one at a friend's house we had that same experience of absolute hysterical laughter. I don't know how we actually played anything. DH almost bought me one for Christmas, but gave me the money to replace my GPS unit in the car instead.
