Work-Out Facilities

I am an avid runner (about 8.5 miles a day). I was wondering about the treadmills on the ship. Is there alot of them? Does anyone know if there is a wait to use them? It usually takes me an hour to run 8.5 miles, so I was wondering if there was a time limit. Does anyone know the Work-out facilities hours?

Thanks so much!

lol, I think you are just showing off!
seriously, you know there is a track on deck 4, I think it is, 3 laps makes a mile, I dont think there is a wait for treadmills but thats always an option for you.

Thanks so much for the info. I am neurotic about running. I wish I would let myself take time off, but I can't. I'll try both options!

Similar subject matter, has anybody ever done the 5K on Castaway Cay? Is it on the beach or on a paved surface?

Andy,

Awesome story! Thanks for sharing. My sister is a nephrology nurse, so this is particularly interesting to me. I'll try the running on Castaway Cay.

Thanks so much!!!

Dont worry, me too!!
I used to be really fat, then I lost wt and started doing half marathons, now I cant stop!! enjoyed the running loop last time, change of scenery for us eh?

The loop sounds good to me! It is tedious running so far on a treadmill, and I get nervous when people are waiting, and I never seem to get off.

Great going with the half-marathons!!

Thanks again,
Donna

I'm not the hero. The hero is my donor...

I saw the 5k info on a copy of the navigator someone put in their TR. I did a physical bootcamp last month and took this month off as waiting for the birth of our son. Was thinking the 5k would be a good goal to have and also is a good way to get rid of the calories from some of the meals on board the boat

I went in the fitness room a few times and it was relatively empty. I am training for the DL 1/2, but really didn't get in a whole lot of running on the ship. :headache: Anyway, I tried the treadmill for about 2 minutes and gave up. The combination of not being used to a treadmill and the up and down movement of the boat seriously made me feel like I was going to fall off. I opted for the jogging track instead. It is 1/3 mile per lap, so I only did 1 mile at a time, being worried about not having enough time to get ready for dinner. I would definitely choose the track over the treadmill, but that's just me, maybe. I loved the jogging track and wish I had run it more! :thumbsup2

Cryssi,

Thanks for the insight. I did not even think of the motion of the ship factoring in with the treadmill. That must be weird! I'll try the track.

Thanks again!!!
:)

you're welcome! besides, it's much better to run outside, anyway... :thumbsup2 It is kind of weird to run the track, though, because when the boat goes up, you feel really heavy, and when it goes down, you feel like you are floating. I never remembered to take my camera to take pics around the track, but I think you will enjoy it...

Yes, you are correct, Lynne, I will have to check out navigator.

My DH is a very serious runner (also in the neighborhood of 7 - 8.5 miles), and he did not think the "running track" on deck 4 was an option for him. It's really just a continous section of deck, but other passengers will be walking along it or across it and DH felt the possibility of having to slow down and not maintain his pace was too great.

The treadmills can get crowded in the later part of the morning. I went right when the gym opened (6:30 AM) to run my measly little 3 miles and the treadmills did not get full while I was there. DH went in the afternoon one time and didn't have a problem either.

DH ran on CC (not exactly sure of his route, but it was longer than a 5K) and said it was a great run. I think it was all paved, and he said it was mostly in the shade.

I didn't see any mention of a 5k run or anything in the June 1st CC navigator I have. That said, the "bike trail" is very nice and it is more than big enough for bikes and runners alike. It winds its way through the marsh and has bits of theming throughout. There is an observation tower at the middle point that you can climb up to get a great view of the island and the ship.

There are also water stands throughout the path which was a nice touch by Disney.

It is all paved though there is some loose gravel here and there.

Just out of curiosity, is there any fee to use to fitness room? I know at our WDW resort, there is, so I was just wondering.

Also, do you have to fill out any paperwork (liability and such) to use it?

Does anyone know the hours? :eeyore:

Thanks for all the comments, yes bobbi I am sure that would be annoying! i did not think that there would be others wondering about, thanks everybody:)

You dont have to pay to use it and seemingly the showers are great in there.Last cruise I was on,only cruise actually the wonder was just out of refit and the gym/spa was not open, I was truly gutted so I dont know all that much about it, I could not see the times on any of the navigators but somebody posted above that it opens at 6.30
