Somewhere I read a suggestion to keep a few "buzz-off" cards handy, in case of tantrums/meltdowns/other un-fun child behaviors. I'm having a hard time writing a concise message that doesn't sound rude. What do your buzz-off cards say? Are there any websites that have good suggestions?

My dd is 4, and I'm reasonably sure she will have at least one meltdown during our week vacation. For some reason, other people always ask questions or seem to think we need help with her, but it's very distracting and I would prefer to focus my energy on helping my dd. I just want to see how others have handled this, no matter what dx your kids have. Thanks for your input.

Two of my ds's have Asperger Syndrome and I use cards like you'll find at http://www.autismcards.com/autism-cards.html.

I hope that helps!

I just pack all my Autism Awareness Walk shirts, and wear one any day I think we'll have a meltdown.

We wore tshirts throughout our last trip that had autism awareness and neurodiversity messages on them. I made them using rumblytumblys disigns.

A tee would be easy, but unfortunately, there is no such thing for my daughter's Dx (and even if there was, no one would understand it anyway!). Thanks for the link to the autism site. That really helped.

I remember seeing a family in line when I was working attractions where the kid had a T-shirt on that said, "I'm not trying to be bad, I have autism". That seemed liek a great way to stop the negative comments. You can print out your own iron on transfers on a computer.

Regardless of what you do, as a CM I found it helpful when I was informed by parents of a potential situation. I can still remember when I worked entertainment several families warning me so that I could watch the child's hands as many are prone to hitting or other forms of aggression towards unknown people- especially characters. What you decide to do is up to you, but those will be things to keep in mind as well. I never interacted less with the kids when families told me that, just made sure to keep a close eye on their body language so that I wouldn't overwhelm them or get hit/kicked.
