First of all let me say that At World's End totally lived up to my expectations in most areas.
- visually it was stunning, the locations were absolutely beautiful and sets were very atmospheric, and the cinematography was awesome. The visual effects were once again outstanding and in a league of their own.
- the scriptwriting was superb and there was just the right amount of dialogue, humour, plot explanation given. There were some great references to the first film in the dialogue, and a brilliant ride reference at one point!
- character development - I was really impressed by the development of most of the characters, and felt the scriptwriters had chosen the right path for each of the characters. Though like Hazel I was disappointed by Tia Dalma'a final scene. Knowing the visual effects this team are capable of you would think they could have come up with something better than what they did.
- the acting was again amazing, as they are all so natural and believeable in their roles. I felt Orlando Bloom was less wooden, and although Keira pouted a lot, her character was a lot more likeable in this film than in DMC. Lee Arenburg and Mackenzie Crook were as funny as ever, and Jonny Depp and Geoffrey Rush were just brilliant.
- some of the scenes were a bit dark, but I suppose they needed to be such to create the required impact. There were quite a few under fives in the cinema, and I can honestly say that I wouldn't have taken a young child to see it. The opening scene is particularly shocking and has one hell of an impact. However, it really gave the atmosphere of what was going on at the time, and how important it was for the pirates to overcome Beckett and the IEC.
- overall the film was awesome, I can't wait to see it again. It was very fast paced at times and some bits appeared slightly rushed, as they obviously needed to cram a lot in, but it was certainly not too long, in fact I imagine they had to cut an awful lot of good bits out of it. I also like the fact that while the trilogy was concluded, there is an opening for the next installment, should they choose to do one (please please please). I now have that feeling you have when you get back from a holiday - flat and miserable. So I think the only cure will be to go see it again in a couple of weeks.
