Wood floor- replacing broken plank

I'm hoping some Budget Board folks might steer us in the right direction. We have wood floors throughout our 100+ year old house. The floors look beautiful, but a floorboard in our DD's bedroom cracked! Not sure what she did, but the board had to be removed because the edges were jagged and unsafe. We are left with a 3" by 14" whole in the middle of her floor! :scared:

Now what? Can anyone recommend our next course of action? What type of tradesman do we call in to have it fixed? Any idea what this type of job will run? The rest of the boards in the house seem fine. So did this one, though. The broken board doesn't look rotted or damaged in any other way. She was goofing around and just came down on it "funny." :rolleyes1

Thanks for any advice!

An experienced handyman should be able to handle it. That being said, check with a flooring store in your area and ask for a referral. They usually have a list of guys who will do small jobs.

If the missing piece is a standard wood floor plank....tongue and groove...you should be able to replace it by cutting off the tongue/groove and slip it in. Glue it or face nail it in place.
