WOO HOO just bought 160 OKW points

Congratulations!

We are so happy that we purchased OKW. We have not regretted this decision. This is my DH's favorite resort, (we have stayed at amost the Deluxe resorts on property)!! The first time we stayed there, it felt like we were really on vacation. You are away from the distractions enough to relax, or if you want to run run run all the time it is just a bus ride away!!

Enjoy:) :goodvibes :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Well, It's a long story. Both my DW and I have loved DW since we were kids( we're now in our 50's) We have both taken numerous trips to DW over the years. We have stayed off site- value resorts and deluxe. We love the full Disney experience but we don't love the crowds of cheerleaders at the values. You get what you pay for- we love the laid back atmosphere of OKW. We have stayed there 4 times in the last 5 years-rented points through a member. We have also stayed at the old Disney Institute and also loved that. I have been lurking on these boards for several years as you can see when I first joined (2007). We felt the time was right to jump in.

As for those of you that are trying to burst my bubble in regards to resales v Disney. My wife and I sat down and listed the pros and cons of each. We took a tour last January and met our guide, Stephen Fisher, who was very nice and knowledgeable. I told him I was seriously considering resale but wanted to hear his pitch. We didn't commit to anything at the time but went home to think it over. As I previously stated, through Disney,we got 160- 2008 points- no maintenance fees (how much are they worth at $8.00-$10.00 per point plus no maintenance fees for those points $756.80. We got April use year when we receive another 160 points. We also pay no closing costs- how much is that worth. We also can make reservations TODAY- don't have to worry about closing- ROFR. We also have the peace of mind that we are dealing directly through Disney (how much is that worth- alot to us.) So, yes we could've bought a stripped down contract, paid closing costs, sweated ROFR and somewhere down the road made reservations. I don't think we wanted to go that route. I forgot to mention- we got the 2057 exipration also. I know, I'll be 90 something by the time it runs out but my daughters and their families will have a prepaid vacation for many years to come.

We're happy with our decsision and look forward to our first ressie. I hope this satisfies some of your questions.

Not trying to "burst anyone's bubble," just want to make sure people are aware of the state of the resale market right now for OKW and SSR (you know, in case your paperwork didn't go through yet and you decided that you might enjoy saving $6,000 or so - the 2008 resale contract I found during the 30 seconds I looked also included 2008 points).

No worries - enjoy your membership.

Thanks Bobbi. We're hoping to book this September - 20th thru the 26th. We've stayed at OKW before (not as members) and we love it.

We will overlap timewise a bit...we'll be at AKV the night of the 25th, and hope the dates are correct for MNSSHP that night. If it is, if you go, maybe we can say "hello!"

Bobbi:goodvibes

PS. We're going to be in our 90s in 2042, so old timers,:goodvibes compared to you!

I figure if I get 160 points for 2008 ( for free) X 10.00( about what points are renting for) = $1600 + no maintainance fees for those points= $756.80 + no closing costs $400.?= $2756.80 total. I paid $16,100 - $2757.80 = $13,342.20 / 160 points = $83.38 per point. Where can I get that deal on 160 - 2057 points resale? I haven't seen anything like that in the resalses.

You have clearly run your numbers, and I respect that :thumbsup2 . This is the resale contract I was referring to: http://www.dvc-resales.com/detail.cfm?ID=OKW2057160-10-0317 (Expires 2057) - there appear to be numerous others in the same price and point range. This particular contract is a 2057 contract, includes 2008 points, and probably has dues already paid for those points as well as (perhaps) 2009 dues already paid. At worst, you would have to pay maintenance fees on those points plus closing costs, so you'd still save about $4,500 to $5,000 all things considered. I would suggest you at least consider it if your paperwork isn't finalized - maybe you can get your guide to throw in a cruise or something if you show him the resale.

With the 2057 expiration and the 10/08 and 10/09 points, that contact is a winner. I wish I could buy it. Anyone have $11K laying around?

I have learned so much from reading these boards- and I really do appreciate all the encouragement and advice. My DW and I felt the time was right to join. We also wanted to make ressies right away. ( in fact we are now confirmed for a Grand Villa- OKW 9-20-09 thru 9-26-09) I have no regrets buying through Disney- I even tried to tell my wife we probably wouldn't be around in 2057 ( although my family does have good genes). But I know my children and grandchildren will be able to enjoy the Disney magic for years to come. And who knows, I may succomb to addonitis in the future and go the resale market for a smaller contract.

To the OP, so now that you've been the proud owners of DVC points for a whole couple days, how many future trips have you got planned? Any reserved (or close to it) yet? I don't remember how long it was before we could use our initial purchase, but I know when we did the add-on, we reserved with those points the same day we called our guide to purchase. Not even a down-payment yet, but we were using those points! So let's get planning! When/where are you going?

Yes, we are the proud owners of 160 (320) OKW points for a whole day now. I called MS today and banked our 2008 points (so, I wouldn't lose them at the end of the month) and made my ressie for a Grand Villa at OKW 9-20-09 thru 9-26-09. I will have 55 points left over to start planning my next adventure. We are very excited. This is something we've wanted to do for a long time.

Congrats!
As first time buyers, we felt good about buying through Disney. I'm guessing we'll pick up more points through resale someday but we are so pleased with OKW and our rep.
Look forward to seeing you around South Point sometime or maybe at Olivia's!

So..how many are you treating to this vacation? GV? Need a bag carrier to come along? We are your age and we love that we can at least provide lodging for family..(ours is growing so quickly that even though I boosted my VGC purcahse we still won't have enough points for everyone to go at once harly ever. Who would have thought 3 kids could equal 13 family members in a few years??)
