Wonderful Panama Canal Sept 2014

Hi All, I thought that it was about time I stepped up and posted. Like many others I have been reading this discussion board for some time and already feel like I'm part of the group. This is my first Disney cruise, let alone any cruise. My Disney mad sister booked us a holiday together (not her first Disney cruise) as well as our parents (also not their first Disney Cruise). I'm looking forward to meeting new people as well as enjoying a relaxing holiday (the most time off I have had for years). Adele :wave2:

Welcome! I noticed you are from NZ. We visited there last year and loved it! Such a beautiful country and wonderful people!

Aha she found me! (<-- Disney mad sister.)

mmbl, we're glad you had a good time, we love seeing people visit Down Under and enjoying themselves. Hopefully our accents and slang weren't too hard to understand! When phoning US call centres to arrange travel (like Disney), the operators sometimes ask me to repeat things several times ;)

So I had a weird doctor's visit that ended up (on top of all the weirdness that was happening) talking to the travel nurse about immunizations for this trip. I apparently need to talk the count health department's travel department (?) and getting immunizations from there? Knowing my luck I'll get malaria so... Better safe than sorry I guess.

I would like to :welcome::welcome::welcome: you swkkusw, Adele and family, to the cruise. So glad y'all are joining us on this cruise. We are going to have a blast on this cruise. Again, welcome aboard!!!:thumbsup2

Thanks David for the enthusiastic welcome :goodvibes

Welcome aboard Adele. Don't feel that you need to be Disney-mad to enjoy this cruise. There are plenty to things to love about a Disney cruise that have nothing to do with theme parks or cartoons.

Thanks Steve. I am definitely looking forward to a little bit of Disney magic pixiedust:. It is all relative - my sister's signature says it all. I am partly responsible because it was when came to visit me while I was working in the States that she first visited WDW - twice - in one trip (we went together the second time).

Welcome to all the newbies!!!! This is going to be a great group!

Today was my last day of school. Said good bye yesterday to my sweet kiddos. Checked out today. I always savor my summer break. This summer, it can't pass fast enough. We are counting down to September here at the Gilchrest house!

Thanks. It is the beginning of winter here (as well as the middle of the school year) so I also can't wait for the months to pass quickly until September :tigger:

Hi Maria, thanks for saying such nice things about my home :cloud9: as I totally agree and yes, I am biased. I enjoyed living in the States and making American friends too. My family are making the most of the long trip to the Northern Hemisphere and are doing different things before and/or after the cruise but the 4 of us will be together crossing the Panama Canal.

I had wondered about immunizations and the CDC does make some general recommendations - I tried to post the link but unfortunately DISboard won't let me because I am too much of a newbie poster. Fortunately the places that we are visiting in Mexico and Columbia reportedly do not have problems with Malaria so I will plan to take some antibiotics just in case rather than a vaccine.

By the way, I would be interested in a Chit Lit book swap at some point on the cruise ::MinnieMo

Thanks for these! Does anyone have a link or source where ppl buy (or make) the magnets for doors w/the characters? I'd really like to get a couple of different ones for this cruise.

Seriously, just post something, anything, to get your number up to 10, you don't have that far to go. If my memory serves me correctly, I did that very thing way back when to get my posts up to 10 so I could PM someone. It's done all of the time. So get busyand start posting!!!:thumbsup2

Sorry for dumb posts... I'm just trying to get to 10 so I can private msg to be added to the Facebook group. I'm a seasonal cast member ho just booked this cruise on Tuesday. Very excited to be heading Eastward in September!

There is a Disney Graphics page in FB.

Cool! Being a cast member is my dream retirement job.

There are threads on the DIS and a few people who will make them for you. I don't know of any who sell. It'd be copyright infringement if they did sell. I usually just make my graphic in Photoshop then print it off and then I take it to an office supply store and have it laminated then a few sticky magnets on the back and viola, door decor!

Well since many of us are readers sunday june 1st im going to meet Tess Gerritsen i cant wait

Thanks! OfficeMax wouldn't laminate them for the last cruise that I went on--blamed copyright. So we'll try again! Hopefully I can navigate the search function and find these threads :)

Thanks!

Here's what I know so far:
Two years ago when I went to donate blood, they asked if I had been out of the country. I said "yes. I went to Cozumel and Costa Maya" and they wouldn't let donate blood because of malaria in the area.
If there's some way to hurt myself or give myself a disease... somehow I end up doing so...

Better safe than sorry. And I am bringing like a full jumbo first aide kit with me because I am that nervous of getting hurt. I should really show you guys pictures from my last trip of my ankle.

Yay! Chick lit! I was going to have outside my cabin door a "take a book/leave a book" bag.

I went to Shutterfly when I made my magnets. I knew they were having a magnet sale, so I did pictures of my dogs... Figured I couldn't lose them. I did that and I made my own of Shawn the sheep because I have him tattooed to my ankle. I could play Memory with the room magnets and my ankle if I got too drunk.

Yay!!! Super exciting!

I ordered our group's matching embarkment day shirts. We are coming from Washington, so 4 Olafs that are chillin'. I thought they were cute.

:welcome: :welcome: :welcome: Adele and Carys!!!! You don't have to be Disney Crazy to enjoy a Disney cruise! I'm the 'crazy' one in the family, but DH has just as much fun on the cruises as I do! :thumbsup2

Thanks!

I just buy the magnet paper at Office Max and print out my own magnets from the graphics I find or people make. I've got some I've used on several cruises and they still look good!
