Wonder - January 21, 2011 The Cruise To Nowhere In Particular..

WOW was that Ding fare for Round trip! I'll have to look into southwest more often if that's the case!

No it was one way for both ways so $110 plus taxes. Still, for the 4 of us to fly for just over $500 is a super good price these days.

I can post this here because you all will not think I'm crazy.

I am turning 40 next month and have been agonizing over what to do - throw a big party, etc... trying to find a venue, menus, family-friendly but with a bar... too many details. What I really wanted to do was go to DL but airfare was kinda expensive expecially since we are headed down for this cruise in January.

So lo and behold, I get home yesterday and there is a Ding! fare to Orange County for $55 waiting on my computer. Snatched it up YIKES and we are headed down for a quick weekend for my birthday! What our trip will cost is not much more than a hosted party for a bunch of my closest aquaintances, and I will enjoy being at DL with my family much more than drinking with some friends from work... SO....

We'll be able to hit up the Halloween Party and World of Color and all the new things. To justify the cost, I decided we'd just not do the pre-cruise Disneyland stay and instead just fly down for the cruise itself... then the cost that we would have paid for park hoppers is not actually part of the cost of this trip... (get my Dis-crazed justification thinking?)

Anyway, I am soooo excited. Haven't told the kids yet - my husband wants to hold out till the last possible minute. We leave in just over 3 weeks - I've never planned a trip with so little lead time. It's such a rush and I love it!

I celebrated my 40th with DH and the kids at Disneyland just a couple of years ago. It is the perfect spot for a special celebration. Since we are local, my brother and sister and their families joined us for portions of the trip, too. The Halloween party has always been fun. Thinking of going again this year since they have moved it to Disneyland.

Have such a great time!!

Worst cruise ever :scared1:

:cool1: Happy Birthday!

I have seen clips of that video, but never saw the man slide back and forth across the floor towards the end, how scary. I was on the Magic in May and it was really bad, but nothing like that. We heard a lot of glasses breaking, and they had to pack in a lot of stuff set out for brunch (DH and I were at Palo). Some crew members said it was the worst they have experienced, and we heard reports of thousands of dollars in alcohol breaking. :scared1: But, Captain Thord steered us to calmer waters so the whole ordeal never lasted more than 2-3 hours from start to finish. That was the worst I personally have ever experienced, but I don't think this cruise will be remotely like it. I am thinking calm thoughts lol!

Please add us to the guest list too and add us to the FE as well!! sounds like lots of fun!! We don't have a room # assigned yet.. we are 09B-GTY. We are really looking forward to this trip..even if it is only for a couple days! :cloud9:

Hey fellow cruisers, I want to get your opinion on something. Since this will be our first cruise, I don't know a whole lot about cruising. I was browsing just the other cruise sites and found a 1-night cruise on Norwegian leaving LA on my birthday. For 2 adults, it's $325 for a balcony stateroom. Do you think the price is worth it? It's only a total of 12 hrs from departure, to arrival back in port.

I always like to break things down when making the decision. That cruise would be $13.54 per person per hour. I have never done NCL, and am not sure what the activities will be for that time. But, if you can afford it, it does not seem like a bad price to me. Good luck with your decision. Happy early birthday!

At first I thought wow that's a lot for a night. but Most LA hotels will charge better than $200 to stay there and you should also get a dinner and breakfast out of the deal so the price doesn't sound quite so steep for a nights diversion.

Guess it all depends on how much of that 'overnight' you plan on sleeping! :upsidedow

We had this cruise booked but cancelled since we are leaving on the Mariner just 2 days later for Thanksgiving week.

We did the 2 nighter last fall on NCL and it was fun, but 14 hours would be just too hectic in my opinion. I would save the money and use it for another cruise. For example, Princess has a 4 nighter on December (18th) on the beautiful Sapphire Princess. It's not that much more to do 4 nights instead of 1, out of LA too!
