Wonder in Alaska!!! May 27, 2013

Thanks for the heads-up. I just tried to check the current price of my category (7A) but the website doesn't show that category as being available, hence no price shown. :confused3

Thanks for the tip. I checked our category (5C) and while there are staterooms available they've gone up in price. So, no refund coming our way. Good luck to others.

I was online making reservations at midnight last night. We're very happy to have gotten both a brunch and a dinner at Palo's. We also got the Saxman Native Village and Exclusive Lumberjack Show. That is the only excursion we're doing through DCL. The others are direct through the vendors. Booked the Chilkoot White Pass Bus and Rail in Skagway at lunch. Still sizing up the whale watching tours in Juneau. Trying to decide whether we want a longer one and no other excursions that day or a shorter one and a visit to the Mendenhall Glacier. Anyone that's seen it think that Mendenhall is a "must do"?

I am interested as we

I'm all booked for the Rain Forrest Bicycle Tour in Skagway and the Mendenhall Glacier Adventure Hike in Juneau! Is anyone else thinking of partaking in these excursions?

This is my first cruise. Since I don't know my dining rotation, can anyone recommend when would be best to book Palo and not missed any of the special events on board? Thank you.

Based on last years navigators this is my guess of what the schedule will be. Its only a guess though, I am nowhere near positive.

Possible dining rotations are APPLAPL, PLLAPLA (This is the one we requested to get Lumiers on the formal nights and Parrot Cay on Pirate Night), and LAAPLAP

Embarkation Day Casual, Rotational Menu
Night Show: All aboard, let the magic begin

Day Two (At Sea) Formal, Golden Mickeys Menu
Evening: Captains welcome reception & Golden Mickeys Show

Day Three (Tracy Arm) Casual, Rotational Menu
Evening Varity show?

Day Four (Skagway) Casual, Rotational Menu
Evening Movie special, looks like no show
It seems this might be a good Palo day unless you get the PLLAPLA rotation and want to see the Animators Pallet show.

Day Five (Juneau) Pirates Menu
Evening Pirates Party
I've heard the food this night is pretty bad so might also be a good Palo night.

Day Six (Ketchikan) Semi-Formal, Captains Gala Menu
Evening Dreams Show

Day Seven (Sea) Casual, Till We Meet Again Menu
Evening Till We Meet Again in the Lobby
You can probably book Palo for after this

the 2014 DCL schedule came out today. Disappointed again with the choices they have!! The souther Caribbean looks great but doesnt sail til Sept... doesnt help us since we cant go doing a school year now.

Anyone done a Med cruise? that is what I would like to book next.

We did a Med cruise in 2010 on the Magic and it was amazing. I was not really interested in the ports before we left, but I just wanted to be on the ship as I had to cancel my Eastbound Transatlantic. I did not even have any plans to get off the ship, but I loved each and every port. If you are interested, the trip report for this particular cruise is linked under Magical Mystery Tour in my signature.

I am glad you are enjoying it. Writing trip reports has kind of become an obsession. My trip report for our Hawaii cruise has now got over 74000 views. I am not even close to this trip yet, but I already have a title for the trip report.

I have not been on here for awhile and it is time to get serious with our planning as we will be able to sign up for excusions in two weeks. So a couple of questions...what is the Saxman Native Village excursion? I don't think I have seen that as of yet and wonder what it includes.

Also- can someone help me with the web site sign up times? If we are able to register as of Feb. 26th for excursions- does that mean the website comes available to us at midnight eastern time?

Finally- I was going to go look at what FE extenders are but have not done that as of yet but now can not find the thread that explains this....or was I dreaming this? I thought when I first read about these there was a post directing you to another site to find out what these were. Help anyone

Hi there. My family is going on this cruise along with some friends. We actually live in central Alaska we are hoping to explore the port towns a bit.

I'm still looking at booking tickets and hotels and such. Anyone go through Disney? What are your experiences and thought about cost and what not?

TIA
Robyn

Yes, you will be able to book excursions and on board activities at 1 minute after midnight EST. You will be able to do your online check in at 3am.

If you look at the main cruise boards and go the the FAQ stickied thread you will find a link to FE's that will give you all the info you need about them.

Welcome

It will be cheaper and more convenient for you to book your airfare and hotel on your own.

Welcome on board.

I booked the DCL exclusive Lumberjack show on their website rather than booking it thru DLC. It was only about $3 cheaper, once the sales tax is added in, but it will save us time since we won't have to come back to the ship to meet up with the rest of the excursion group.

We're thinking that in Skagway, we'll rent a car/Jeep & drive into the Yukon, but I want enough time to see downtown Skagway as well. For those who have been to Skagway, how much time do you think we'd need downtown to see everything & maybe do a little shopping?

About 1½ hours, maybe a bit longer. Basically it's a long street that leads to the docks, about 4 blocks long, with a few things/shops to look at along the side streets.
Found some maps online for you: http://skagway.com/walking-tour-and-trail-maps/

listing of shops: http://skagway.com/business-category/shops/

It's official, we are joining this one last minute.

We live halfway between Seattle and Vancouver so if anyone has any questions for locals just ask.

Last time we took this we took the Amtrak train up and back. This time we will just park the car.

Lack of airfare made it cheaper than the repo cruise the week before for us.
Will read the threads and catch up.
