Wonder in Alaska!!! May 27, 2013

Question for the more experienced cruisers - we're going to participate in the FE, but I'm wondering how that works if we upgrade at the port (looking at the cabins available, there's still quite a few open) and our cabin number changes. How do you let everyone know that it's changed?

if you have a room change... just post in on my door or let me know at the meet n greet...

I will have a memo board for messages etc. :)

Val & I decided to make a change in our cruising plans. We found a really good VGT rate on the Panama Canal cruise on May 6th and are jumping to that one instead.

Sorry we won't be meeting you nice folks but I'm sure you'll have a great cruise. :boat:

Welcome and excellent choice for an anniversary celebration!

What qualifies as "senior" in your book? Just curious if I am one. :rotfl2:

We are going to be there on Saturday and Sunday before the cruise.
Don't know what we'll do yet, but as the time comes closer, we'll figure it out.

Lving on the edge. I admire that. I am a planner and don't usually do it, but I do admire it. :thumbsup2

A friend who was in Vancouver last fall highly recommended a bus tour of the city the first day in to get the highlights sorted out. Then when we find somehting we like, we can go there and spend some quality time investigating it.

Welcome to the board!

We are going to be renting a car in Vancouver. Is there somewhere cheaper than Vancouver to stay in that you would recommend? I think we will probably bite the bullet for Sunday to Monday.

We will be 67 and 68 when we cruise. We did this cruise with Princess 8 years ago and had a great time. We even took the helicopter tour to the dog sled camp on the mountain.

Here's the thing... I'm generally a super-planner... I plan everything for all times of the day. I like doing that, it helps me to ensure that I get the most out of my vacation.

Then, I cruised, and I found out how nice it was just to have nothing planned and decide on the spot. Instead of stressful like my usual vacations are, that last cruise I went on was amazing.

I still plan, but I'm waiting until we can book excursion before I know how much I can spend roaming the city. :thumbsup2

It depends on what you're thinking of doing - if you're thinking about doing things on the North Shore, such as Grouse Mountain (tram ride & things to do at the top) and the Capilano Suspension Bridge, you might look at staying in North Vancouver - it's probably cheaper. That being said, parking in Vancouver can be expensive (both street/parkade and hotel), so it might be a wash money-wise if you're wanting to do things more downtown.

I think we are pretty much decided on what we want to do on this cruise. At Juneau, we are hopefully doing the Bike and Tram Mountain Adventure; at Skagway the White Pass Scenic Railway and at Ketchikan the Mountain Point Snorkeling Adventure.

I'm travelling from the east coast. I want to use ff miles on United. I can only get the 25,000 seats if I fly into Seattle which we will probably do. I want to go to Seattle anyway either pre or post cruise to visit family.
Any suggestions on how to get to Vancouver and from Vancouver. I'm looking at Amtrak train, Amtrak bus, quickcoach bus. We are seniors so no rental car for us.

We will arrive in Vancouver on the Wonder, but we are planning to either fly back to the UK from Seattle or fly from Seattle to Los Angeles and then back to the UK. We are looking at the Amtrak train. We love the trains in the USA.

From what I understand the train from Seattle to Vancouver is relatively easy to get on and get to Vancouver. We too are coming from the east coast but we are close to Toronto. We are going to take a direct flight from Toronto to Vancouver. If we came from the states, we would be taking a scenic tour of airports.

That sounds wonderful! I'm still a few years away from your definition (54), but you're probably retired, so you win! :rotfl2:

I, too, tend to plan, thoroughly. I actually find it less stressful that way. I don't feel like there's something I might be missing since I've explored the options in advance. Then I just relax knowing I've got exactly what I wanted. Granted, sometimes, it doesn't work out, but at least I go in with a solid plan to work from. But, I'm flexible, so maybe I'll try it your way someday.
