Wonder Down Under

I am slightly worried about not having a decent secondary option for dinner
There should be limited options on the pool deck (depending upon what is open - mainly Boiler Petes from memory) and room service.

To my very general understanding, your servers may be able to accommodate requests to order from the menus available in the other two restaurants. All the menus should be in the Navigator app and you can review them before going to the restaurant.

I am weirdly picky about certain things and unfortunately they can be very common issues especially when a restaurant is trying to pull off ‘fancy’. So on previous cruises we made our specialty restaurant and alternative choices based on if the nights menu had something I’d happily eat.

Only a couple days away. I am absolutely loving Melbourne.

I guess it might be different because I am on an international cruise. Ship is leaving Australia and so is everyone on there. So was wondering if we all have to get scanned out of the country and if so is there the machines to scan out or will we have to actually talk to a human. I just got here and went through customs without talking to a single person. Didn’t get a passport stamp though which makes me sad.
Ours was just domestic but yes, if it's International, you will have to pass through customs when you exit the ship

We were not offered anything from the other restaurants on board, despite talking to both our server and the head server about the problems with dining we were experiencing. We were told there was little they could do and after they had spoken to the chef, we were told the chef had said they couldn't offer us much else. It was difficult and unlike any other Disney Cruise we have ever been on. We have always found them amazing with the food.

Ah, okay. We had people at our table order from the other restaurants on a pre-COVID cruise. I guess that’s not an option anymore.

Are you doing melb- Auckland? We are on that one :)

There should be a "lighter fare" option in every MDR each evening which is basically plain chicken, steak or fish.

Heads up - they are also out of Mickey Premium Bars and are offering Magnum Minis as an alternative. Unsure if they plan to restock since it's only a couple of weeks into the season.

they are doing things differently for these nz/aus cruises unfortunately. Many repeat cruisers are caught out because it's not like "normal"
That might be true. My comment was only to clarify that the option to order from a different menu is still available post-COVID.

I'd be somewhat surprised if they weren't allowing this on AU/NZ cruises, though. The food is all prepared in the same place and it doesn't really take much more effort to get something from a different menu.

I know a few friends with food allergies have had issues on these cruises and they've not had it on previous cruises.

It's been a bit disappointing from that front.

So VERY disappointing. I know it's just vanilla ice cream with chocolate coating in a particular shape, but my daughter was so excited to eat a "Mickey" ice cream.

I also understand that a LOT of merchandise is sold out and has been since the first cruises, including popular items like the Animator's Palette paintbrush knife.

Q. I've read reports of Anna and Elsa, Jessie (from Toy Story) and Stitch appearing in the Oceaneer's Club / Lab (outside of open hours). Are these appearances "advertised" in the Navigator (app or paper), potentially in relation to specific activities, or are they random / surprise appearances?

I'm trying to figure out if it would be possible to encourage my three year old to go into the Oceaneer's Club by herself during the appearances (while I wait outside the door). I know she would love to see Anna and Elsa (and the others) in person, but I'd only take her there (outside of open hours) if I knew a character was going to appear (unless she absolutely loves it and asks to go independently).

They'll probably restock most things every now and then. Cruises that depart from non-US ports do tend to have less merchandise available, though. :(

Q. Do they refill popcorn buckets purchased at Disney theme parks on board? We had been eyeing off a lovely looking Christmas themed popcorn bucket, but they’re apparently sold out. The limited remaining options aren’t very appealing, so we were thinking of taking one from Tokyo Disneyland.

Yes, they have the buckets. They have themed buckets and then just the general buckets

Yes, I have heard this. It's disappointing especially because the Mickey Bars are gluten free but the Magnums are not.
