August 22nd -August 26th 2004 Trip Report Disney Wonder

Cast – Myself Sue (mum) 42

Day 1

After a 9 hour flight from the UK and three nights spent in the All Stars, we awoke on the morning of the 22nd, very excited. We made our way over to the Animal Kingdom Lodge to pick up the transfer to Port Canaval. We arrived there at approx 9.30am,checked in our luggage at the Cruise Line Desk and then went and had breakfast. We took advantage of the early arrival at the Lodge to look around this wonderful hotel and got some great snaps of the animals in the Savannah.

We met up with about 30 other guests at 12 noon and was escorted out to the Disney Crusie Line bus at 12.30. We made a very brief stop at the Animal Kingdom Park to pick up 2 more families, then it was all systems go for the hour journey to the port. The weather was very sunny in the high 80's. The trip was very pleasant with the air-con on full blast and a video playing, showing us all what was going to happen once we got aboard. This made the journey pass quite quickly and only added to the excitement.

We arrived at the port at approx 1.55pm and the first view of the wonder made us gasp. She was everybit as beautiful if not more than we could imagine.
Check in was very smooth, we had to go to the check in for Non US citizen, which took about 10 mins tops. As you can imagine at this time there was no lines to board the ship, so we walked right on and had our KTTW card activated and we stepped aboard. We were asked for our family name and then we were annouced with a round of appaluse from cast members who were in the antrim waiting to greet the passengers. We also had a welcome aboard photo taken. We were asked if we would like to have lunch or go stright to our stateroom, which we decided to do first.

Our stateroom was 6144 right at the back of the ship. It was very spacious as there would only be the 2 of us in there. We did have a balcony which had the solid railing at the bottom, which I was aware of before going but I was a little dissapointed as we were told this was a cat 6 unobstructed view, which I did not feel it was entirly. This was due to the curve of the ship and the fact that ours was the first room next to the navigators balconeys, so it was obstructed by at least a quarter of metal on the right hand side. It was not a problem at all but I did feel as though a bit of the view was obstructed. It was very private though. Just for your information when you have a solid metal balcony you can not see anything at all when you are sitting down. You have to stand to see over your balcony.I did pop in and see a friend of ours who had the plexiglass balcony and it made the room much brighter and you could see everything when sitting down. I suppose it would be a matter of personal choice but I think next time I would go for the plexiglass.

We met our host and I asked him if we could have the double bed made into two singles for myself and daughter, he did not seem to keen to do this and convinced us that it would be better if he made up the couch for my daughter each night, which was what we done. My daughter said that it was fairly comfortable but if we went on a 7 night cruise she would like to have a proper bed.

We then made our way to lunch at the Beach Blanket, which was fine. Plenty to eat from a self serve buffet. After lunch we headed back to our room to get ready for the lifeboat dril. We put on our lifevests and then went to Animators Palete for the drill. This was painless and we were all sat down and it took no longer than 15 mins.

After the drill we went on top deck for the sailaway party and had a great time waving to all the people stood at the dockside watching us go. Members of the Disney Crusie line come out onto the terminal building wearing big white mickey hands to wave us off. I have to say it brought a lump to my throat when the ships horn blasted out "When you wish upon a star"and we were off. Although we had calm waters, as my daughter and I had never cruise before we both took Sealegs Tablets(melclzine). Drowsy was not the word I would use, we both felt shattered beyond belief and a bit dizzy, but hoped we would shake it off.

The pools were crowded and everybody looked as though they were having a fantastic time. We never did meet up with other Dis people with the exception of Pat and Family who were wonderful, as the time was going by so fast.

Dinner our first night was at Tritons, we were at late dinner and at first I thought my DD and I were going to be the only ones at our table which was for 8, we were then joined by a lovley couple who were celebrating their honeymoon. They had origanally been placed on a table with a family of 12, but felt a bit out of place so they were moved to ours. There was a large party of about 500 people onboard from a company(sorry I forget what they were called)and 2 of them then joined us.I felt a bit sorry for my DD as I thought Disney did there best to place like familes together at dinner, but she was the only child on our table and felt a bit left out. The food was wonderful, especially the Grand Mariner Souflee for dessert. Our servers were fine but did not interact much with us.I know that pleases some people but I was hoping that there would be more interaction for my DD. At the end of the meal the Head Waiter did bring a birthday cake out for my daughter and everybody sang Happy Birthday to her. She was equally surprised, delighted and embarssed at the same time.

As it had been a very long day and the seasickness tablets we had taken were taking their toll on us we made our way back to our stateroom to have an early night. We were delighted with the towel swan that had been made for us and the chocolates on the pillow. My dd went stright to sleep and I sat on the balcony writing my trip report for a while but then felt a bit quezy with the rocking of the ship, so I made the mistake of taking another sea sickness tablet. As soon as my head hit the pillow I was in slumberland.

Part 2 Tomorrow- Nassau, the torrentail Rain, the teen club and the discovery of the Wonderful Ginger capsuals.
