I finally took the plunge. I just won a Ready, Set, Go auction. I requested Orbit One Vacation Villas for a 2-bedroom 2-bath unit. Grand total for the week is $261! It certainly looks nice and several folks here have said they've stayed there so I went for it. Our trip isn't until Oct. 30 but I'll certainly post a full review when I return.

Thanks to everyone who answered my SkyAuction questions.

Congratulations, you got a great price! Skyauction is pretty cool, every time I tell someone how cheaply I'm staying because I won a SA, they can't believe it, and your price beats mine! Have fun!

Congratulations! Gotta love those RSG auctions! :) And what a wonderful week to be in Orlando - late October/early November is just ideal both for wonderful weather and light crowds. Have fun! :)

I hope somone can answer this question. I know lots of you understand Sky Auction but I want to know if there is a place on the site that explains the whole thing. I get bits and pieces from you guys but I would like to see it all together cause I have a million questions.

I found their help screens and FAQs to be well written. I also e-mailed them a couple of times with questions and they responded promptly with clear answers to my questions. The site is overwhelming at first glance, but really isn't all that difficult to use once you get the hang of it.

Steve, we are also going to Orlando for the New Jersey teacher's convention week. Hope you've got your flight tickets, they're going fast.

Hi Anne. Maybe we'll see you there. Look for the green Mickey heads and my DIS t-shirt.

No flight for us, though. We'll be driving down. We'll pick DD up from school Friday afternoon and hit the road. We figure we'll drive until about 10pm, stop for the nite, and do the rest on Saturday. We should get to Orlando about 8pm.

I have used SA too and have won a few. I have never bid on a RSG one because i really don't get it. How is it different then bidding on a particular place?
Thanks.

If you can find availability at a resort you like for your dates, this option generally offers the best deal, IMHO. Hope this helps!

Thanks Local Girl! Yes, I think I get it now. Sounds like a great deal if you win. I'll have to try the RSG auction sometime.

CPM,

to me there are 2 good reasons for a RSG:

1) you can possibly get a great resort for less tahn if you were bidding on it directly. Example, I was able to stay at Orange Lake last year for $261 vs the $500-800 on the specific OL auctions. However, I have not seen RSG availability for OL this year at all.

2) The RSG auctions have availability all ove the place, not just Orlando. So, if you win one and hold onto it (they are usually good for several months), you can decide later where you want to go. You're not locked into a specific place or date.

Oh, that is a great reason! Thanks!! :D

That's an interesting point. Do you think many folks actually do that? We generally plan our vacations by picking the time and destination first, then making the accomodation arrangements. I guess some folks might do it the other way around. Perhaps retirees might like this option since their schedules are wide open for the most part - find a great deal and then decide when and where to go. Sounds good to me.
