I don't get why Irina Slutzkaya (sp?) scored so high? :confused3 Yes her program was good but so were a lot of the other programs. What exactly did she do that would cause her to be at least 7 points ahead of all the other skaters so far? Her jumps were the same as the other skaters right?

I think Emily Hughes skated really well considering the circumstances surrounding how she got here.

Can't wait to see Sasha skate - she's my favorite.

You are about to get lambasted...duck and run! You can read the points stuff when you reun the sursor over your title!

theres is nothing wrong with your post
it gives away nothing
but Sasha hasnt skated and you left out the Kimmie is in 2ndi dont think it would have mattered in Emily had been here earlier she is not her sister
she has great jumps but not that elegance on the ice yet
she will in time

HOw odd, my comp told me it hadn't posted... Glad I misunderstood Alice...hate to see another barbecue!

How odd...again! The first time I crossed it, I could read almost to the bottom. Now it is just periods. I think I've had enough computer time. :badpc:

I think that Emily has a shot at a metal...in the past years it's always the younger skaters, with nothing to lose, who don't feel the pressure yet and who manage to skate clean. Some of the more experienced skaters just crumble under the pressure.

I missed Kimmie's skate so I didn't comment on it. I think the Canadian skaters did really well too. :thumbsup2

And thanks :goodvibes anyway to the other poster for the heads up but I've been here awhile, I know how to post without spoiling it for others. :duck:

I thought that the quality of Irina's spins were superior to the others. The were faster and definitely more centered. I have a hard time judging difficulty of footwork so I can't comment on that.

Irina's jumps were very high. They also look at the difficulty of the entrance to the jumps. There are so many little things that jack the marks up that are so hard to see.

I thought the women skated really, really well. The costumes were also beautiful!

Now, this seems to be a more quality field than the men's.

I should have realized!

I agree with Alice about the younger skater's. I htink it takes age to incorporate passion into a dance, and that is what brings out the emotions. The younger skaters are great at the mechanics, however.

Oh my, Sasha Cohen was wonderful! What an absolutely brilliant skater she is.

Besides the jumps and the overall feel of a program, I have a hard time judging skating. I think Sasha's skate was superior to Irina's (who did wobble at least once in her footwork) so I don't understand why they are so close in the standings.

The skating is fantastic - I can't wait until the long program! I kind of miss seeing the 6.0's though - I think Sasha's skate deserved a few.

:cheer2: I'm watching it again on NBC - really great night for skating.

Go Sasha!!! WoooHooooo!!! Awesome!

Emily "flute girl" Hughes was my favorite. But I really don't know anything about skating.

Speed, height & intricate footwork are just as important as the jumps. It's hard to tell on TV... but in person the difference in speed is obvious and you can really tell the medal contenders from the younger/inexperienced skaters.

Emily doesn't have a chance because she didn't even place in the top 10 at World's last year. The winner will likely be either the gold or silver medalist from Worlds the year prior - which would mean it's Irina vs. Sasha.

I have never really cared that much for Sasha, she always seemed to serious, but she was wonderful tonight. I do think her program was more artistic than Irina's. I think it should be more than just being able to jump. All the stuff in between is important too. Sasha's last spin was just amazing, and I hope she gets the gold.

Another fabulous night of skating. Glad I got to see it in real time. Well....mostly real time (TIVO'd and watched about an hour later). The Americans all put in brilliant performances, especially Emily who I think hasn't had ANY international experience. She's a terrific kid. Kimmie was pretty awesome too (though I wish she would have shown a little more enthusiasm for her teammate Sasha). Sasha dominated! She was breathtaking. Hey, now I know why "Skating With Celebrities" isn;'t on this week. John Nicks, the judge for the show, is Cohen's coach, and busy in Torino with her! I didn't know that until tonight!

I was surprised at how skimpy some of the outfits were (the one italian girl in the black and white was really revealing), and the jury for me is still out on women wearing pants. I kind of like classic skater garb. I am really looking forward to the long program.

I was very proud of Sasha! I think she was beautiful!! I look forward to seeing her pull off the gold after the long program =)

I also thought Emily did very well for someone so inexperienced - she obviously doesn't have a chance at a medal but will be someone to watch in the next few years. She was SO happy to be there, such a great sight to see!!

SKating with Celebrities was taped months ago. The reason it wasn't on last night had nothing to do with John Nicks' whereabouts.
