PS, there is a HUGE difference between "only pulling 2 G's" and sustaining 2 G's for a length of time. Roller Coasters and even ToT only expose you to brief moments of bodily abuse...MS sustains it on your for quite a while.

MS subjects you to the G forces in periodic bursts, much like the inversions of a coaster or the pull downward of TOT.

well for all of you who think the ride is "fine", what if it was your son or mother who died? Go ahead and blame the deceased or their family for riding a ride at the happiest place on Earth. I love Disney with every ounce of my being, but will not be riding that ride ever again. If you others would like to then by all means go ahead. Seems like a waste of "SPACE" that they could be filling with a ride that EVERYONE can ride. Just MHO you know. If it stays that's fine....I'll just go on something else. No skin off my back. I just hope nobody else DIES, that's all.

People have died on the People Mover and on the Matterhorn.

Getting on a ride with a health condition after repeated warnings not to--is just as reckless as climbing out of a moving vehicle.

No one is blaming the victim.

As someone said--we are defending Disney who has little control over what guests opt to do of their own free will. If they did a medical screening for MS--they would have to do it with each and every ride and attraction at the park.

I am sorry but if your son has had a heart murmur since birth, why on earth would you let him ride MS? It clearly has posted not for anyone with heart conditions.... :confused3

First, thanks to those who already "defended" me! And yes, the Dr. has never given us any restrictions on his activity... it's minor, and is monitored with each of his visits...

I would never knowingly put any of my kids in danger.. but because the ride is in WDW, which traditionally doesn't have THRILL rides (ala Kingda Ka, etc..), people have a certain comfort level... While I don't think they need to shut it down, they need to tone it down... nuff said!

(or any ride that loads on the back of a trailer pulled by gypsies.).

Whoa, hey, can we not be racist about this? :sad2:

Are gyspys actually a "race". ;)

Besides, gyspys don't pull around carnival rides, those are people from the "carney" race. :lmao: lol. I'm sorry I couldn't help myself.

DISCLAIMER: I've never seen a gypsy in my life and I have no problem with carneys, unless their yelling obscenitys at me while walking down the midway. :teeth:

it's been tested up to 5 G's with no lasting ill effects. if they tone it down anymore, it'll be a $100 million teacup ride.

Yes, "gypsies" or Roma are an ethnic group. They have their own culture, traditions, language, and customs. Hitler killed about 250,000 of them just because of their ethnicty.
You've probably seen more of them than you think.

Sorry...I should've said CARNIES. Those travelling carnivals are referred to (around here) as "gypsy carnivals" because they travel from town to town. No offense meant to actual gypsies.

We'll just have to wait and see what Disney does about this. I will be very surprised if he ride doesn't get changed in some way.

I wish Horizons was still there...sigh...

Notice the cause of death.... natural.

NOT exactly.

If you read carefully, the MANNER of death is listed as "natural", which means that it wasn't an accident.

The CAUSE of death (and yes, 'manner' and 'cause' are different), is "idiopathic hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with fibroelastosis of the left ventricle". Meaning that he had enlarged heart with abnormal tissue in the left ventricle, the main pumping chamber, of unknown cause.

Sorry for that woman and her family :guilty: :sad1:

A young girl died a while back after riding Tower of Terror. Remember? She had an undiagnosed brain aneurysm or something. So, if, next year a 45 year old man has a heart attack after riding the same ride, will people be clammoring to tear it down? :confused3

The fact is that things like this sometimes happen. It's very sad and I do feel bad for the family involved. I don't think two deaths out of the millions that must have ridden proves that it is a "killer" ride or anything.

Hmmm... really... Death isn't a "lasting ill effect"????

Was there any mention in news reports whether this German woman read or understood English? Perhaps the warnings were not heeded due to language problems.

Just thinkin' out loud.

About the ToT death...I would think if two people died because of riding that ride in one year, it too may be subject to a revamping or even a closure. I can ride that ride just fine with my medical conditions (and would be mighty sorry/unhappy to see anything happen to it, but would totally understand if they did close/change it).

I would never go so far as to start petitioning Disney to change/close MS, but I will totally understand if they do. Again...waiting to hear what Disney's response will be.

I feel so terribly for that family. To have something like this happen...on a VACATION, no less. It must be devastating to them. My heart and prayers go out to them.

I'm so sorry for this woman and her family. :guilty:

The same thing could have happened on the flight home. I know, I almost lost my dad after his flight back from Maui (to Chicago). Pulminary embolism, in other words, blood clot. But in my dad's case 3! They have no idea why he lived, he absolutely should have died instantly. Flying has been shown to cause blood clots. Maybe we should shut down the airlines too? My dad has flown several more times since then, with the consent of his doctor and a blood thinner.

Yes the magic Disney line. Once you're off property you can be pronounced dead.... but not until then.

I didn't read through the whole thread (at work and shouldn't be dis-ing) so I apologize if this has already been mentioned.
I don't want some Disney paramedic pronouncing me dead. I want my pooh sized butt dragged to the nearest hospital and have a fully educated doctor pronouncing me dead. Meantime, I want those disney paramedics doing everything in their power to keep me alive. Just my 2 cents worth.

And may that poor woman rest in peace.
Actually, you would probably not be pronounced dead in your own house if you dropped dead there. Each state has certain people that by law can pronounce people dead - and usually that doesn't include paramedics.
So, it's not likely to be a "magic Disney line", but law on who can pronounce someone dead.

There is an extended period of pressure and centrifuge at the beginning of the ride, when you are working up to weightlessness. I'm guessing that's the difference that makes this ride more dangerous and deadly than roller coasters, but I'm sure it would take several more fatal episodes before Disney would pull the plug on such an expensive ride.

What a horrible thing for her family!

They're spinning this as a complication of a pre-existing medical condition (possibly high BP). As mentioned, the warnings are there, but we don't all know the current condition of our own health.

The prayers of my family go out to her kids.
Why would you call that "spinning"? If the ride was functioning properly, and no one else was injured or killed, then, chances are she did have a congenital defect that led to her death.

Don't they always have to have the rides checked out when someone dies on them, by the state or something?? I seem to remember hearing that the last time someone died on one of the rides.

I rode MS in Nov 2004, and only once - just to see what it was like - then never again - once was enough for me. I don't think I will be letting dd ride it either when she gets big enough to. JMO

My thoughts are with that poor ladies family
