WL Theft-app to the Rescue

My wife and I were on Kanapali Beach in Maui and I asked the lady next to us to keep an eye on our stuff while we went into the water. In a slow, hippy voice she replied, "You're on Maui, nothing bad happens on Maui". I replied, "Is that why there are signs everywhere to lock your vehicle and there is broken glass at every place where you park and lose sight of your vehicle?"

It Disney I put a big sign on our stroller with the poison skull and cross bones. I figure if someone was going to steal a stroller or go through the contents, they would not go to the skull and cross bone one first. It is kind of funny watching people's reaction to the sign. They see the sign and then slowly look aroung the front to see what kind of kid is riding in the stroller.

:lmao:

when making reservations to visit myrtle beach & mentioning to reservationist that we haven't been there in a few years, she warned me to keep an eye out for the sand crabs...jerks who boost stuff off unattended beach blankets then scurry away ala their namesakes.

Just synced my iPad and set up my Mobile Me account. Yes, I am taking the iPad with me, as I didn't want to drag down a bag full of books to read for pleasure (thank you Nook and Kindle apps). I have downloaded four books to read and will have 4 magazines with me to read as well. That should cover the drive down (I am a fast reader). LOL!

I don't plan to take the iPad out of our room, but in case I do take it to the pool, we will have my M/FIL with us who will watch our stuff......and the Mobile Me is set.

OMG! Why didn;t I think of using the iPad to do double duty and download some movies and more games for DD to play inthe car, that way I don;t have to bring the portabel DVD player......

Gotta go visit iTunes. Ummmm how to rentals work?

Why is this man such a "hero"? Gee, let's leave all our valuables unattended and get our 15 minutes of fame! Really? You get famous for stupid stuff (Yes, I know you do, but some common sense would have prevented the need for this "publicity")

And rentals are :( on Itunes. Rent for a month, but you only get one viewing and it has to be complete within 24 hours of starting BOO!

I think he's famous more more on how he was able to retrieve his stuff.

And I do have to admit that when we go the pool we don't take much but we do take: a room key (usually it is set up for charging privledges which basically is another credit card), some cash for a drink or snack while at the pool, and our camera (in case I want some pics of DD swimming), a phone (so we have a clock), maybe a book, sunscreen, and snack (if we don't take cash). And while it's just stuff, you still get pretty peeved when you find it's been taken from you.

Most of the time when your stuff is stolen, it's gone. If your credit card or bank card is stolen, sure you can get the charges reversed, but it's always a headache. The criminal wasn't stopped in that case as well, and there's only a trail as to where as to where he/she has been. I think what makes this guy a "hero" is that he had a tool that could help him and he was able to get his things back before too much damage was done. Also, after reading his personal blog today, there was no way Disney could have apprehended the suspect or legally searched his bag. Thanks to the victim having a GPS tool, he was able to quickly locate where his stuff was at, and then Disney used to loophole of the bag check area at Magic Kingdom to search the suspect's bag.

I really don't think taking personal things to the pool is stupid. I admit that I leave my park bag on our stroller when at the parks, but I keep everything valueable in mini-hipster worn across my body, it's always on me, even on rides, nothign of value is in the park bag (ponchos, extra change of clothes for DD, sunscreen, etc....). When/if we buy merchandise we always have it sent to the front of the park, because I really don;t want to walk aroudn with an extra bag all day. There is a standard here that YOU DON'T TOUCH OTHER PEOPLES STUFF and if you do, espcially by taking someone's stuff without permission then that is a crime.

Again, I think it's just the fact that technology was able to help himj and he was able to get nearly everything back. The guy is not ranting and raving against Disney for keeping his stuff safe. He knows that there is always a chance of having something taken, and he's a "hero" for being able to take it into his own hands and get his belongings.

....rentals are :( on Itunes. Rent for a month, but you only get one viewing and it has to be complete within 24 hours of starting BOO!

Thanks for the info. I decided I'll just purchase some things for her to watch. And chances are, that there is no way I'll take my iPad to the pool, not something that valueable...camera yes, but not the iPad. However, in case someone were to thief it from our room....at least Mobile Me is enabled.

He took credit cards, cash, multiple phones etc...

Sorry, but you don't need to take all that... They have these things called safes. If your stuff is gone it's a quick walk to the front desk to 'deactivate' charging on your room key. Probably easier then the calls to the credit cards or the sprint across the park.

The real truth, next time the thief will just take the cash and credit cards so that he won't have any way to get his stuff! His "15 minutes" of fame are probably making this app less attractive (not to mention that if he knows what he's doing you can deactive the tracking, it is possible!)

I take a phone and my room key to the pool. Would I be upset if they were gone? SURE. Would my vacation be "ruined" ? NO!
