I am so glad I found all of you and thank you for all of your great ideas and information. We're heading off soon (we're in single digits!!) for our first trip to the WL and I have a couple of questions . . . .

We have booked a courtyard view - any suggestions as to which room to request ahead of time?

Do rooms have a room safe, coffee pot, refrigerator?

What time does the transportation start running in the morning?

Anything other great tips I should know for a family with school age (8 & 12) kids?

We're really excited - the WL is the only place I wanted to stay and from all your posts it sounds like a truly wonderful place.

Thanks!!

M.K.

all the rooms have safes. we use them all the time. the transportation starts running about 1 hour before park opening. only the conceigre level has frigs in the room, but you can request one for an additional charge. not sure about the coffee pots as we do not drink coffee. the general store there is one of the best shops on property. there is a nice walk path to fort wilderness, but do not do it at night as it is not lighted. be sure to take time to see the geyser; it is really neat! and just sit in the lobby people watching. another good place is to just sit in front of the fireplace in one of those great rockers. ask to be a flag family. this is a hard to get "event" but it is worth it. the view from the top of the lodge is wonderful!! the luck we have had lately was the days we were there were already booked, but it never hurts to ask. i am sure there are more and more things about the lodge. we do not have children the age of yours so i am not sure about activities for them. have a great trip!

Welcome!

Be sure to ask for an "inner" courtyard room. They overlook the main pool & waterfall. When we were there last month, we too, paid for a "courtyard" view. We received a room that over looked the quiet pool & villa's. Thought it was a nice room with a lovely view, I do not feel it was worth the price.

When you arrive in your room, you can call Mousekeeping for a coffee pot and they will bring a 4 cup pot and coffee supplies - at no charge. They will also restock the supplies daily.

Refrigerators Are 10.00 + tax, per day, very small and unless an absolute necessity, a cooler will work just well. Ice machine is on all floors and buildings. Coffeemakers will be furnished with a request to housekeeping, plus a supply coffee & filters to get you started. Safes are very small, will not hold purses or lap tops.

Go to this thread and you will have answers to many of your questions, plus some you did not think to ask.

If you are not satisfied with your room for any reason, contact the front desk and they will do whatever to make you happy.

Puffin, check out Deb Will's web site. She has more information on the Wilderness Lodge than you can imagine. I've added the address below for your convenience. Enjoy! :)

Thanks for all your help and information. I know it will come in handy as we get ready for our big adventure. Thanks again!!

We always prefer the 5th floor (which I believe is mostly smoking),
but we always fax in our request to over look Bay Lake. Picture this.....Wilderness Lodge is shaped like a U....we dont like the views from the "sides of the U", so we like the "bottom" of the U. That way, you can look directly out your balcony and you see all of Bay Lake, and the pool, and the geyser. GREAT GREAT view...I like room 5075. EXCELLENT king bed room. That was smoking room as well. We spent our 10th wedding anniversary there. The WL even gave us champange!!!!!!

Another tip, my husband is coffee drinker, and he HATES the WL coffee...so take your own coffee for the coffee maker. He was grouch when he had coffee that didnt taste good...I learned my lesson, Im taking his own coffee. ;)

Check out the cubs den. You can leave the children there for a $ and do what you want at the parks. My children think that the on site sitting services are another attraction they love it so much. They are 8 and 12 also.

Cubs Den opens at 2 or 3 for "arts & crafts"..Parents must attend this a&c session, but it was nice little break in the day.
We made picture frames one day and bookmarkers another.

This is free for WL guests...the after 4pm babysitting service has a charge, but they feed them dinner.
