Wk Of Sept 22 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Mel - Great job on your speedy 7 miles!
Wendy - Fantastic job getting your 20 in. That's great you have such a supportive family!
Big Vic - Don't be too hard on yourself....your get up and go, got up and went 5.94 miles. Better than a goose egg in the distance column.
Christa - Between your shows, running, and biking, that pretty much a triathlon in it's own right! Way to go!
Susie - Good job on your 8 miler! Good luck on your ride this weekend!
Bill - Strong work on the 12 miles! You gotta be careful of those East Florida Ninja Frogs. They can be pretty nasty at times.
Martha - Great job on the speedy 7!
Steve - Sounds like some real serious training you've been doing. Maybe a Tri is in your future (?).
Heather - Try the TriBerry Gu's, they are pretty tasty as well! I love my Ice baths. After a LR I take a book, change of clothes, bottle of water, and the ice bucket from the freezer into the bathroom and chill out. Pun intended.
Kim - There were some awesome photos from the galleries on the marathon website you mentioned. Looks like your gonna have a great race. Tear it up!
Jen in GA - Did you have Harry call out your splits? Good job on your runs this weekend!

Happy Training!

I do agree that ESPN is probably not the place. Maybe some of you other football fans can throw out places to watch the game post-marathon.

Warning: off topic

Lou--Yeah, Robert's right. ESPN Club does get crazy busy on Sundays during football season. Krista and I have watched one Steeler game in there around mid-season two years ago. We got in line at 11:00am and there were already about 70 people in front of us. They opened the doors at 11:30am and the place was packed immediately. They actually stop letting people in when they reach capacity, so if you get there after that point (usually well before 1:00pm kick off), you'll be forced to stand outside in a line behind a rope and wait for people to leave. This line moves VERY slowly, as most people in there before 1:00pm plan to stay for at least the first game, possibly the second as well. The bar area also gets closed off after a certain capacity. We haven't tried to watch a 4:00pm game in there--I can imagine your options for one of those late games would be to either get there before noon or risk not getting in at all.
Having said that, I know the playoffs are even worse because they are, well, the playoffs. :) Honestly, I would recommend watching the games from your room or one of the other bars/lounges on property. None are quite as impressive as ESPN, but you'll at least guarantee yourself a spot to watch the game, which in my opinion is all that matters.
But......if you can get someone in your group to secure a table early in the day, there's nothing like watching games at ESPN. It's football heaven, and they do their own pre-game show and breaks during commercials internally with guest player interviews, call-ins by people like Trey Wingo, etc. It's completely awesome!

Ok, sorry to go so off topic, but Krista and I have a decent amount of experience with this place so I thought I'd shed some light. Hope that helps!

Steve

I you won't miss any of the Eagles playoff games as the Eagles last game will be on Dec 30:thumbsup2

If you go to watch other teams like the Cowboys, better get in line about 10:30. That place is crazy and you may have to sit about 5 1/2 hrs if you just want to watch the 4:00 pm game. Totally crazy as I have watched a bunch of games at a very costly $$$ time.

Are you linning people up already to beat us up Robert. I better start doing weights 4 times a week.

Dave:hippie:

I CANNOT believe I am missing all the football talk this year! I know you all miss my smack talking! :thumbsup2 I just wanted to pop on here and say :wave:and:

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!!!
3-0 BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Andrew--Congrats on your marathon!! I thought about you all day yesterday, hoping you were doing good! Now, take some days, you certainly deserve them!

Jen--Sorry things are still crazy for you and your family. :wizard: :wizard: that things get better. On a totally different note, how 'bout them Packers!! I love Brett Favre, so I'm very happy to see his career get a second jump start. With everything that has happened to his family, I think he deserves it!

Terri--What was up with the Eagles blue and yellow uniforms yesterday? I know they were throwbacks, but I had no idea they were anything other than green and white.

NE Bill--Sorry that your wife isn't a football fan! I don't think Stephen knows how lucky he is! Oh, and I won't talk smack with you, I don't think you'd like the things I have to say about the Pats and Bill "Mr. Gray Hoodie" Belichik. ;)

I better get off here, I have laundry to put away, just wanted to say !!

Duh, offhand I'd say childbirth has alot to do with it. You try pushing a watermelon through a little buttonhole and see how tough you still think a marathon is. :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :rotfl2:

:rotfl2:

Ironz- Try this map: http://www.disneyrunning.com/joggingtrailas.html

Leana- even though it would be challenging to find a trail @ Banff, it may be exciting to run in a different setting.

SilverE- I love green tree frogs. Having lived in FL 10 yrs ago (lived there for 15 yrs), they were fun to watch! We did notice that as the years went by, their numbers seemed to decrease!

I did no training today, as my shoulder really hurts. I'm thinking it's out! I hate when that happens! :scared:

Total drive by - just wanted to report in. I did my 4 miles at the track today:
12:02
12:13
11:42
11:32
47:31

Jen - I am so sorry you are still dealing with these crazy issues! Lots of  for you.

Bill - Killer frogs? :scared1: You guys must not tell about the frogs, snakes, scorpions, etc. I will never move to FL to retire if you keep this up! Heck, we saw our first garter (?) snake a few weeks ago, and apparently Zack found 3 of them outside yesterday!

And for anyone keeping track, Zack has not peed in his pants in two whole days!

PatsBill or is it Tim The Tool man Taylor Im glad Im not the only one with those unexpected projects. Good luck with the training this week, and fix the dang dryer! Geeez. :lmao:

Wassup Vic?

Good news, I get to play the MayTag repair man and do nothing about the dryer. DW had laundry to do, so she went out, bought a new dryer, brought it home and installed it herself. Nothing like a decisive, take charge woman.

As to the other stuff, I see myself (both physically and philosophically) more like Norm (from Cheers) when he became a painting contractor. Same competence as Tim the Toolman, but Norm summed up life as I sometimes feel:

"Its a dog-eat-dog world out there and I'm wearing MilkBone shorts."

I wasn't really sure what was up with the Eagles throwup...I mean, throwback uniforms yesterday. They looked like the old Chargers uniforms, but girlier. I'm afraid someone's going to get a bright idea and drag out those old orange Yucs uniforms

Glad to see Bret Favre doing well this year, but I hate it when they talk about how OLD he is. I think he's a year younger than I am. I did growup watching Marino and it's a little sad to see his record on its way out, though I think Bret is a fitting candidate for breaking it.

Sad that Grossman's struggling. He is a former Gator, though I'm a little miffed at the Bears for dropping Chris Leak.

Never been a Cowboys fan. They seem to collect the problem children of the league...T.O. is just the latest in a long list.

Belichik's hoodie :lmao:

What do you think my chances are of becoming an NFL ref someday? :scratchin

To make it an official post...I did 3 miles on the plank tonight in 39:16.

NE Bill--Sorry that your wife isn't a football fan! I don't think Stephen knows how lucky he is! Oh, and I won't talk smack with you, I don't think you'd like the things I have to say about the Pats and Bill "Mr. Gray Hoodie" Belichik. ;)

Good to hear from you. Please stop by and join in the football talk. And what ... you've got something against Bill's unibomber-look. He may not be the best dressed, but at least his tattered, cut-up hoodie is (or once was) official NFL apparel.

Hey all - haven't caught up yet, but just thought I'd pop in a say WISH shirts rock - so many people tapped me on the shoulder during the Sydney half to comment on the shirt, I mean honestly, I'd have run a sub 2 hours if I hadn't had to spend all that time explaining everything!!!!! AS it was had to go with 2.16 (note to everyone reading this - I never have and never will run a sub 2.00!!!)

I did ache yesterday though - and I'm still a bit stiff today, I think it's because I ran the first half in 1.01 - normally I train at 7 minute kms so I knocked off over a minute a km. If only I could keep that up for the next half!!!

Oh, I also had an idea - so there I was at about 14km when Eminem came on with Lose Yourself which reminds me of Cam (in da house) and I was thinking - well Cam's running today so someone else will be aching too - and so I'm thinking maybe we should have a 'my motivating song' list so that should that tune appear on anyone elses ipod during their run they know they are not alone with the pain/suffering/misery/joy/rapture (insert own personal emotion here)...

I'll start - mine is Thunderbirds by the British band Busted or Mr Brightside by the Killers if you want to stay local!!!

Anyway that's my lot today, as I'm sneaking on here while waiting for someone I'm supposed to interview to actually pick up their phone. Happy training - Helen

A quick post before going to work. Last night I got 4 miles in with a pace of 11:25. My legs were still tight/sore from the weekend so I backed off a little. My leg is a little sore this morning so I will probably take it easy for a couple of days.

The killer frogs are still out and one more landed on my shoe while one jumped up to my waist. They are either cuban tree frogs or leapord frogs. I can't tell when it is dark but they jump pretty good. It happened in a different area this time so they must be communicating with each other. :lmao: I found running down the middle of the street keeps them from hopping but the cars don't seem to like it too much. :rolleyes1 Now if they will just calm down before we have to go running through the wilderness for TOT. I don't know how many surprises I could take.

Helen - Great job on the half. That sounds like a great place to do a marathon. Maybe once we win the lottery we can try it. ;)

Mel - I think Farve is actually a little older than me but I realized a couple of years ago that the majority of pro athletes were younger than me. That was not a very happy day. :lmao: I was also corrected by Lynnda that Gainesville wasn't the Land of Hopelessness, she told me it was considered the Den of Iniquity. ;) Maybe I will learn the correct terminology someday...

PatsBill - Glad the dryer got fixed in some manner. They are actually the easy ones to fix. Not many parts to break. It sounds like you are getting plenty of remodeling cross training in. I'm sure that there are a few of us who could come up with projects for you as well. :rolleyes1

Kristi - Great job on the run. Just to let you know, I haven't seen any scorpions down here.

Krista - Great to see you again. Hope everything is going well for you.

Steve - That is alot of training. Hope your legs feel better and it isn't a long term pain.

Vic - The proper excuse for not running is "It's Florida and there are thunderstorms outside". This year, that excuse seems to be valid about 3-4 times a week, usually on my running days. :rolleyes1

Heather - I like the Orange Burst, Strawberry Banana, and TriBerry Gu's the best.

WWDave - Glad you got your discount card. Now you have to come back more often to save money. ;) The squirrels just provide a diversion for the other animals to attack. While you get tied up with the squirrels, Erica can be taken off by the killer frogs and mischevious raccoons.

Andrew - Great job on the marathon. Glad to hear it was a positive experience overall.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Bill

Good morning team!!!!!!

Well, didn't get any walking in last night, got home from work feeling icky, so just tidied up the house and lied on the couch. Feel great today however, so will get out there tonight...even though with the humidity they are calling for almost 30!!!!! OMG!!!!!

Well my Saints aren't looking too good, 0 - 3...yikessssss. Since I am new to following NFL...however, love football, is there a point in the season where there is no chance of making the playoffs??? I hope there is no Titans fans here.....but what is with the uniforms???? uuggghhh:sick:

Leana How was the game??? Can't wait till hockey is back on TV, they haven't shown any pre-season games here and pay for LeafsTV....not likely.:headache: Love my Dion, use to watch him in the Jr's always been my fav.

Big Vic How did the weight training go??? Are we still pain free????

Andrew Thanks, I love the medal, I can't wait.....if you can't tell that already:cloud9: :lmao:

Kristi Yaaaaaaa Zack:dance3:

Bill Yikes, killer frogs yikes.....

OK, I think I am up to date!!!

Have a super day all

Kim

Last night we were watching Man vs Wild and he was in the Everglades. He picked up one of those little tree frogs and ate it in two bites (yes, raw and yes, while still alive). I immediately thought about you! It brings a whole new meaning to getting some nutrition while you're running! :crazy2:

Bill

Bill, I discovered last year that squirrels have us fooled, we think they just eat nuts and stuff, but no they are carniverous! I actually saw one eating a hotdog. Not that anything in a hotdog could be called meat but it ain't a nut either. The other thing that bothers me is if you look up nut in the Dictionary you see my picture. I'm screwed either way.

Anne thanks for the picture, can you give me a link for one with the names? I didn't know anyone when we took that pic, but now that I do I want to be able to identify our team members if I see them wandering the park. We would of course recognize your sweet smile. You really made us feel welcome.

I envy you guys who can fix stuff, I was born without the fix-it gene. I do have some skills but nothing that would do a dryer any good.

We are off for a 14 mile walk today, our first long walk of the year. We are excited about it.

Sorry Robert, Erica said she will be unable to cheer for the cowboys and she may help the others beat you up.

Go Denver, Go Vikings!!!!!

Wendy, we stole your wonderful idea for displaying our medals, thank you.

Good morning everyone!

I had planned to get my run in first thing this morning, but we have a dog issue to take care of. The new member of the pack, Shadow, 9 YOA, Keeshond, woke up with a bloody nose this morning for some odd reason. He’s acting normal, eating and such, but his room looks like a crime scene. So, I’m waiting for the vet to get out of surgery so I can have him looked at.

Guess I’ll run this evening.

Kristi – WTG with the 4 miler.

PatsBill – That’s my kind of maintenance. If it breaks, buy a new one. :thumbsup2

Mel – WTG with the plank workout.

Helen – Congrats! :thumbsup2

FLBill – WTG with the 4 miler. Hope the leg feels better. The wife was attacked by a killer frog while putting the garbage out last night. This was right after finding a dead bug in the cupboard. All of that eeeeeeeeeking and eeeeeeewwwwwwwwing was quite entertaining. :lmao: I used the “It’s Florida and it’s raining” excuse for missing the 5K on Saturday. :rolleyes1

Kim – Sorry you couldn’t get your walk in. We’re pain free, and the weight training went quite well. I love supersets.

:)

I'm back from my cruise...I only ran once..NAUGHTY!! but I did try to use the stairs quite a bit. I did half of my run yesterday and intend to do my full training run today as soon as I can get the baby down for a nap.:headache:

Last night we were watching Man vs Wild and he was in the Everglades. He picked up one of those little tree frogs and ate it in two bites (yes, raw and yes, while still alive). I immediately thought about you! It brings a whole new meaning to getting some nutrition while you're running! :crazy2:

That makes me think of the old Monty Python candy company skit (to paraphrase):

Candy inspector: "We have some questions about some of your candy, for example the crunchy frog."

Candy company rep: "Yes."

Candy inspector: "We're under the impression that there is a real frog in this candy."

Candy company rep: "Why of course. We only use the finest, natural ingredients."

Candy inspector: "Well, is it de-boned?"

Candy company rep: "Well of course not. If it was de-boned, it wouldn't be crunchy, would it."

Go Bill. I'm a thinkin' there might be some good protien in them frogs. Just watch out for PETA if you decide to use them in place of Gu.
