Wk Of Sept 22 - WISH Walking/Running Club

G'Day WISHers!!! :surfweb:
Today was a 7 mile run--short compared to the 10 last week and the 12 coming up next week. But that's what Hal Higdon says to do, some I'm doing it. Apparently I was running faster than I thought as at the end I caught up with DH near the end of his 12 mile run and he paced me at sub-10 min miles. I'm sure that's a mis-calculation (uh huh) as there is no way I could sustain that for 7 miles. But I know I was running somewhat faster than usual. Well, OK, that would explain why my legs are a bit mushy right now.

Wendy: kudos for sticking it out and great that your family was so supportive and "talked" you into it!! :thumbsup2

WWDave: so glad to have the real you back! Things were getting a bit dull last week! Go ahead and make trouble--I'm looking forward to it!!

escape: happy to hear the icing and all helped!

Vic: sorry to hear your run wasn't so great. Hope the next one goes better!!

ironz: slacker! HA--7 miles AND a swim is not slacking off! Park your butt in front of the tele and enjoy some much deserved rest!

Christa: what shows are you in and what are you doing in them?

nepatsfan Bill: 38-7 victory over the Bills--but does that really count? I think YES! What is your prognosis this week for our home boys?

When is the WISH meet at ToT? I want to be sure to set aside that time. I'm looking forward to meeting those I have yet to meet! Have a wonderful day everyone!!

Yep, I sure need to. When my runs don't go as planned I really get disgusted with myself.

It will get better. ;) :)

Aw...Vic....be Positive! :)
hugs to you!!

and I do understand....I wanted to bail during my swim workout today because I just wasn't feeling it.

So credit to you for getting in what you could. It all goes in the bank!! :)

Christa...not training for Ironman right now. ;) just cross training. Hadn't been on my bike much since July.

But I see your goal of 4:12 marathon. I only wish... best for me so far is 4:44. real goal will be getting to January without any overuse injuries from running.

Hey guys! I’ve been bad about posting lately, although I have been trying to keep up with everyone on the thread. So……here is my attempt to at least start to catch up.

Mel—way to go on the great run! By the way, how ‘bout them Bucs! They looked good today. Are you as excited as Krista and I that football has once again begun? :thumbsup2

Wendy—good for you for getting those miles in! You have such strong will power. Nice job!

PatsBill—Hope your back is better soon. Congrats to your Pats against the Bills today. Although I have to be honest, I really can’t EVER wish the Pats well. You know, that whole Steeler thing and how you guys beat us every other year in the AFC championship? :sad2:

Vic—don’t worry about the run. All you have to say is, “I’m from Florida. It’s still 112 degrees down here. I’m not going to run.” :) Hope the upcoming running week goes better for you.

Steve—congrats on the 15th anniversary! I know what you mean about finding the “right” kind/flavor of gel. I’ve tried a lot of them, and keep going back to the vanilla GU. It’s amazing how something so simple can affect different people in different ways.

Ironz—way to go on the run and bike. I’m with Christa; whenever I try to ride long before a LR, my legs are just dead. Kudos to you!

Craig—Hi! Good to hear from you. Sounds like your training is going pretty well.

Susie—glad you had a good 8 miler. Hope your injuries are all healed soon.

Bill—wow, 12 miles with no food/drinks! That’s crazy. Good job for finishing under those conditions. Just so you know, I would have flipped out with the killer frogs. Let’s just say they’re not my favorite things.

Martha—from your post, this is what I caught: something about Hal Higdon…..7 miler……..I’m faster than Craig………” Craig, I think she’s challenging you to some speed work. :thumbsup2 Way to go on the 7 miler.

Training’s been going allright for me recently. I do have to say that I got a grand total of 4 miles of running in this week. I had a 20 miler last weekend and at mile 19, my knee started to act up. Of course, I pushed through till the end which was probably not good, but as a precaution, I’ve laid off the running this week. I have another big week next week with a 21 miler scheduled for next Sunday, so I want to try to be injury-free for that one. It seems like it’s always a tightrope walk at this stage of marathon training: training enough to be prepared vs overtraining. But I did get in some swimming and lifting in the meantime. And the good news is that I’ve become very good friends with my bike this week. I got in about 105 miles with 60 of those over this weekend. I figured that would be a decent supplement to LRs. All I know is that my legs are TIRED this afternoon.

Good job to all of you guys for getting the steps in! Hopefully this 18 month summer we’ve had is finally over and we can all enjoy the fall (for a total of 2 weeks till winter hits). :) Have a great week, all!

Steve

WWDave- aspirin bottle! :rotfl:

Mel- glad you got running nirvana- send some this way!

Wendy- I'm so glad you got the additional 12 miles in. Doesn't it feel great? I was just thinking today, as I'm kinda sorta tapering for RFTT (I know, it's only 10K, but I wanna taper!) that last weeks 7 miles felt so easy compared to this weeks longest (3 miles!). It's nice that your family supports you.

Big Vic- where do you go to find your get up & go?

ironz- I think you deserve to slack the rest of the day away!

Susie- I'm going to a whinefest, oh, sorry, it's the wine festival. JK, sorry you're having troubles! :pixiedust: for your injuries!

Bill- Killer Frogs? Are those green tree frogs?

Martha- sorry about the mushy legs.

I've been getting in short walks, 2-3 miles each, mostly because LTO. It's going to be interesting to ramp up the long runs beginning slowly after I get back from RFTT. The distances in training for the half will be longer than I've ever done. Part of me can't wait, why is that?

Take care, everybody!

I am really happy to see that everyone is plowing through. It sounds like some are dealing with that injury stuff. Please take care.

Mel, good to hear that it is working out for you. I hope the good things continue.

I've got a week lined up that should get me back into the groove. I sure do WISH this to be so.

Steve: no, no, you don't understand! We intersected...I would NEVER be able to "catch" Craig...I'm no where near as fast....um, have I gotten myself out of trouble yet?

Wendy - Great job on your 20. I admire your determination and your family's support.

Susie - our families must be related. if I talk about skipping a work-out or I'm too tired, they just say to "take it easy, skipping a w/o won't kill you". They don't realize how long 26.2 REALLY is. If some of them walk a block, it's an accomplishment:sad2:

Terri

WWDave: so glad to have the real you back! Things were getting a bit dull last week! Go ahead and make trouble--I'm looking forward to it!!

Yep, I agree, time to get things back to the proper state of Chaos. (Evil laugh coming from the background).

Dave:hippie:

I have nothing to report. I have been trying to get eBay listings into auctiva all day. With Zack & my niece Amanda "needing" me every 5 mins. He is asleep and now I can kick into high gear. Today was a "stretch & strengthen" day. Well, that didn't happen since I am in a panic about this Vegas trip I booked! :yay:  These auctions better bring in some cash!

I have 4 miles on deck tomorrow & I promise to get 'er done!

Steve...during football season, the sky is bluer, the birds sing louder and all is right with the world :cloud9: . We missed the Bucs game because we were traveling, but got home in time to catch the Jags-Broncos game. DH spent his formative years in Jax so always likes to see the Jags play. And the Gators are still undefeated...though by the skin of their scales this week :scared1:

Bill...it was lovely being back in the homeland where the world turns orange and blue on gameday. I assume the amphibians were attacking you because of your lack of reptilian gatorness :snooty:

WWDave...we have bigger WISH team meets on marathon weekend, though we'll have a great showing at ToT.

Vic...sorry to see you're in a bit of a running funk. How's the foot doing? I get really, really bummed when my runs aren't going well (or not as well as I think they should). That was a particular problem when my foot was in bad shape too. Here's some :wizard: for your next run!

Martha...congrats on your 7 miler!

Craig...thanks for the suggestions on speed work. I've never done speedwork on purpose before so don't really feel like I know what I'm doing. It does seem to be helping though!

I'm starting to get nervous about those really long runs. It's a little weird to already be at 7 miles and looking at a 9 or a 10 next weekend. I've trained for so many halves that seems like I should be almost done and ready to taper with distance like that. I'm going to be really freaked out when the 13+ runs hit...that will be the furthest ever for me.

Well, my last LR before the race next Saturday is in the books. It was an easy-ish 8 miles--the temps were back up somewhat, along with the humidity. And then I found out around mile 4 that spicy chinese and Abita Purple Haze are not the night before a run meal of choice from now on! Won't probably be on here much this week. We are super busy until we leave early Thursday morning. I'll be able to report back after the marathon from the IL's sometime on Sat. The IL"s are being saints and taking the kiddos to a football game Sat. afternoon to let DH and I recover a bit.

Suzy--much luck this next weekend for the Big Dam Race! I love the bridge--one of my fav running spots. I don't know where the turnaround is for the 25 miler, but the 50/100 come right through Maumelle (where we live) and it was such fun to watch all the cyclists last year. I think my dad is riding the 50--he gets entries for life b/c he's a charter member of the Big Dam Bridge club (or whatever they call it)

Okay, must go and spend some time with DH. I've spent all my weekend so far at the pharmacy making some $$$ for my disney addiction!

nepatsfan Bill: 38-7 victory over the Bills--but does that really count? I think YES! What is your prognosis this week for our home boys?

Well, they are where they need to be, but too many penalties still and the defense is 0 for 5 this season stopping teams once they get inside the 20. If they keep working and get some of their injured players back, the defense might be okay. But come on, even the Steelers, who have yet to play a team that has even smelled the playoffs in recent history, beat the Bills.

Oh, and speaking of the Steelers ...

PatsBill—Hope your back is better soon. Congrats to your Pats against the Bills today. Although I have to be honest, I really can’t EVER wish the Pats well. You know, that whole Steeler thing and how you guys beat us every other year in the AFC championship? :sad2:

Thanks for the well wishes and stop your sulking, you won the Super Bowl (luckily you didn't have to play the Pats that year in the playoffs though). Come on, even I was rooting for the Steelers today, but only because the Pats have the 49ers first round pick next year and probably won't have their own. (Its looking like they will probably make the playoffs this year.)

I didn't get to watch much football today as I was trying to help DW by doing laundry. She surprised me as well with a new storm door, some assembly and installation required. You would think they would have something pre-assembled, but no. Waiting for the drill to re-charge now so I can finish this unexpected project. From what little I have seen of football today though, I have to say that those Eagles uni's were pretty special. For some reason, it makes me keep thinking of that 70's-styled San Diego Super Chargers theme song.

Mel – Great 7-miler! And way awesome about the sub-12:00 mile!

Wendy – Good job on getting out there and finishing your 20 miles. That's awesome that you've got such a supportive family!

Vic – Sorry about the stonker.

Ironz – A 7-mile run and then a swim? You’ve earned the slacking off time!

Christa – Glad to hear that your ankle is feeling better!

Susie – Good job on the run and the ride. Hope you’re feeling better and have an awesome ride next weekend!

Bill – Killer frogs? Yikes! We've got lots of frogs here, but they generally run away when they see us coming.

Stephanie - Well, at least the bad pre-run meal was this week, rather than before your race! Best of luck next weekend!!

Well, we bagged our scheduled walk yesterday morning. Just was not feeling up to it. So we moved it to today, and finished 2.13 miles. Funny thing was that our mile splits were exactly the same: 16:29 for each mile. At least we were consistent! :)

I'm trying to convince DH that it wouldn't be a bad thing for me to just try to add some short jog intervals back in and see how it feels. He doesn't think that's a good idea at all. I guess I could ask the doctor and see what he says, but I'd hate for him to agree with DH! I'm just not very good at this whole being super careful about everything.

Hey Team,

After running in the Phila Dist Run last weekend this week was a bit of a downer. However, I did make a few purchases this week that I liked. I picked up a pair of Asics running shoes from the Haddonfield Running Co on Friday night. It was the first time I ever got fitted for a pair of sneakers and it was worth it. I realize you can't run all these miles with shoes that don't work for you.

I also bought a Garmin 205 from Amazon and it arrived on Saturday, just in time for my LR on Sunday. I did 12.5 miles on Sunday. I wanted to go further but I had some time constraints. The device is AWESOME! I ran along a pretty heavily wooded bike trail and it never lost a signal. It's so nice to know what your pace/time/distance is. I wanted to stay close to the pace I ran at the PDR last Sunday. I ended up running the 12.5 miles in 1:46:35 which was a 8:31 pace. Every time I got tired I looked at the Garmin and made sure I sped up to keep close to my pace.

My time constraint was 11AM mass and the Eagles game at 1PM. Of course my Eagles came through with a big 56-21 win over the Lions! :cool1: Sorry Lions fans but you guys really looked bad yesterday. After dropping the first 2 games the Eagles needed this win to salvage the season and McNabb came up HUGE. Just when I thought I wasn't going to have to worry about missing anything on Sunday races the Eagles made it harder for me.

WWDave - I guess the calmness has finished now. I will make sure to keep my head down this week in case there are flying objects around. :lmao:

Bill

Bill, I'm not the only maker of mayham and chaos on here. I just tend to get blamed for everything I start, now is that fair?

Erica and I are headed out for a 7 miler this morning and she has a 14 miler planned for us tomorrow. Now that she is feeling better she is going to remind me that she is the better long haul walker.:flower3:

Hope everyone is feeling better today, it's a new day and a new chance for adventure. Change things up a little: go without your watch or garmin, wear a new outfit, (Leave the speedo at home Vic), take a new route.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Good morning WISH team! I did 3 miles on Saturday and it was a stonker! My legs felt like 50 pound weights. I tried the Vanilla Gu, and it was okay. I have other flavors and will try them this week. I also have been doing the ice baths after my runs, and they really do help. I know so many of you swear by them, but I am a wimp and was avoiding the cold. :scared1: Now, I am addicted to them.

Have a great Monday everyone!

Happy Monday, everyone!!

Big Vic--are you smiling?? :goodvibes

Does anyone know where to run at AS Music? Planning a little visit, but still need to run (only in my 2nd week of focused marathon training, so I'm not burnt out yet--ha!).

Good Monday morning team!!!!!

Had a great day yesterday, my Argos beat the boys Bombers so we took the boy home from the big city, didn't leave him down there to find his own way home:rotfl:

My 10K is suppose to be tomorrow night but we have some wicked hot weather coming tomorrow so I will get it done tonight.

Thank you all for the good lucks this weekend, I am so excited my first 1/2.....yipppeeee. I saw the medal yesterday and it looks so cool. I believe the website is torontowaterfrontmarathon.com or just do a search of scotia waterfront marathon and you can see it. I love it. I hope I earn it this weekend.

PatsBill Well I still love ya:hug:but we will have to agree to disagree on this one. It was a awesome game, high scoring which I like and , DH, DS and myself had a great day.

WWDaveThanks for having my back buddy:hug:

BigVic Sorry about your stonker but glad you got almost 6M in.

Christa Wow dancing and training, I don't know how you do it all

Yikes, sorry can't finish catching up.....I hate when work interferes with my posting time:confused3

Have a super day all.

Kim

Quick drive-by:

Saturday- got up early, realized only Harry (DS, 17 months) and I were up, so threw him in the jogging stroller. Did 3 miles at a 10:15 pace according to my probably inaccurate Nike+.

Sunday- Three different people pledged to babysit so I could go on my LR, but you guessed it, Sunday morning it was me and Harry again. On the bright side, I didn't have to wear my belt since I could load up the stroller (and Harry's a good running buddy.)

I did 9 miles at a pace of 11:11. My clothes were so sopping wet I looked like I'd jumped in a lake. I found out later it was 100% humidity (shouldn't that be actual rain?!) Here's a disgusting image- my hands were so wet that they got pruny from holding my stroller handles! My run was faster than my Minnie time by at least 15 minutes, and I sure wasn't pushing a stroller there, so I hope that means I'm improving. That's my longest run so far.

And I've been laughing at myself that I'm totally psyched I only have to do 6 miles this Sunday. Funny how your perspective can change!:rotfl:

Sorry it's all about me. Hope everyone is doing well!
