Wk Of Sept 15 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Has anyone done a cruise where you go to a resort first and stay a couple of days, do they pick you up at the resort and take you to the cruise boat so you can leave your car on property and then take you back where you can stay a few more days at the resort before you leave for good?

Dave:hippie:

That's probably not too economical. The Disney buses will take you from the port to your hotel and vice versa, but it's not free like Magical Express. (The last time we did it, the cost was about $50/pp roundtrip.) If you have your car with you, it's alot easier to just drive to the port and park there. I think it's about $8 or $10/day and it is very secure. We've done it numerous times.

beth: great job on the mileage.....guess who I spent time with this weekend?

Hey guys thanks for the first hand expericence on the cruise and value resorts. I promised my pretty princess that I would take her on a cruise.

I'm doing a good job so far staying out of trouble. Although Erica says that is very out of character for me. Whenever there is chaos she usually finds me in the middle of it.

I can't wait to meet you guys. I have visuals of who some of you remind me of.

SteffWalks: I picture as Gretchen Wilson in the music video "Redneck Woman".

Jeanne: I see as Shania Twain singing, "I feel like a woman".

PatsFanBill: Is Homer Simpson, to a Tee

Big Vic: Has to be a Fred Flintstone double.

Robert: Capt Jack Sparrow.

Cam: I see her as one of the ladies kicking butt at the end of Shrek III., (The girl calling the forest creatures).

Judy: http://www.thinkhumor.com/images/funnypages/tn_womendrivers.jpg

I better quick while I'm ahead.

Have a good evening all.

After whining about missing my runs this weekend because my DH's family was visiting, I actually got to run, so I get to go update my calendar at work in GREEN.

On Saturday, we went to the beach with everyone. DS needed a nap, so I was heading back with him, when I realized that he might enjoy a nap in the jogging stroller.;) So there we went, huffing and puffing in the humidity and heat for 5 miles.

Then this morning, since DS decided to get up at 5:45 a.m., I popped him back in the stroller when it got light and we did 8 miles before anyone else even got up and dressed. We had to go to a birthday party for a two year old at 9:00 a.m., so all I could think about was finishing so that I could get some cake! :cool1:

I was really sad that I might not even complete my first week of official training, so I'm feeling better now (I know I'll miss some training here and there later, but that first week thing was getting to me).

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Jen in GA

Hey Guys! Will catch up later...but wanted to post a link to my Century report! Thanks for ALL the support! You may have to cut and paste b/c I cannot get the little link thing to work.

http://journals.aol.com/gatorphipps/PhippsFamily/

I wasn't even sore today! But was tired! Now I will start focusing on my Charlotte marathon training. 16 mile LR next weekend! Running is my 1st love.

OOOOH! I burned 3090 cals yesterday! So Steak & Shake never tasted so good!

Hey all! It's been awhile since I've posted but hopefully I'll be able to start visiting and posting more now that the new school year is starting to settle down a little.

SWDave – I’m so sorry for your loss of your mother. May the memories of happier times bring you some comfort during this difficult time.

TXAng – congrats on your good news! A future WISHer in the making. :)

Judy - glad you are healing nicely. Hopefully, the aches and pains will stay away for a while.

Robert & others - IF AeroSmith performs at ToT I will just die of happiness. I LOVE THAT BAND. :teeth:

Terri - I think one of my friends will be a volunteer at the Ghiradelli mile at the Nike 1/2. I told her that her job is to grab as many as she can and bring them back to the hotel room. :thumbsup2 I can't wait to get the Tiffany necklace. Another friend running with me did the full marathon last year. The necklace was nice and she said the 1/2 marathoners get the same necklace.

To all those nursing injuries - lots of :wizard: coming your way.

This weekend was the official start to my Goofy training as I started my back to back long runs which I have planned for every weekend now (of varying mileages of course). This weekend was 5 and 10 miles. I ran the 5 early on Saturday morning with Sheena, my boot camp instructor. She gave me some great tips while we were running (relax...posture...watch how my feet point when I land) and it was great having company. We ran the 5 nice and slow in 1:05:25 (13:04/mi). This morning I ran the 10 on my own and I was a bit worried about bonking (not exactly the best on the nutrition this weekend...) but it felt great when I was out there. I finished the 10 in 1:52:45 (11:17/mi) and I ran not even feeling like I'd done any mileage the day before. I sure hope they all feel like this..!!

I'm getting super excited for the Nike 1/2 coming up soon, along with the ToT. My dad did a half ToT this weekend and he felt like it went really well so he's working hard to be ready for his first race. And my mom is super excited about Minnie next year, so it is official, we will be there. I think both of us will be doing the 5/15 combo that weekend this time! Hope everyone has a great week!

Hey everyone, tomorrow i get back into running :) yipppie. i had foot surgery a month ago and before that it had issues. i hope everyone had an awesome weekend.

Hi everyone,
Trying to keep up with the threads this week...

After the move, I'm trying to get back into a routine. Last week, I did three 4 mile runs. I did a 5 mile run tonight. The runs here are definately more "hilly" than in Ohio. I'm holding over a 10 min mile here, whereas I could hold a sub 10 min mile in Ohio. I'm probably "out of the groove", but the hills are probably helping me to get back into shape. Anyway, I'm trying to methodically build my mileage

Keep up the good work, as I['m looking forward to the ToT as well as the Donald/Mickey/Goodfy.

DH thinks that maybe the road/concrete running was irritating my PF, I am starting to think maybe he is right!!
STOP THE PRESSES! STOP THE PRESSES!! Is this one of those ever so rare occurances of a wife thinking her husband is actually right? Notice how she doesn't fully commit to it quite yet. Still plenty of time to come to her senses. Careful Jen, you wouldn't want to set a bad precedent here.

WWDave - It was a brisk 48 degrees Sunday morning at 0900 as I left for my run. I had to don a long sleeve shirt.

This reminds me. The Galloway rule of thumb, IIRC, is to add 30 seconds to your pace for each 5 degrees over 65. Figuring it was 20 degress less than that, I was expecting to run 6 mpm. Hmmm. I guess it has to be colder (like When Hell Freezes Over).

Tiberius - Great job on the 8 miler. Nothing like a run that really builds your confidence. Your HM will be great!

Beth - Some of the toughest runs for me are the ones after a big LR. I guess I don't prepare myself mentally, thinking "Heck, I did 20 last week. 6 is nothing compared to that." Those runs can be killers.

Lourodrigis - Excellent job at the PDR! That's a big jump in speed! That Rocky theme must of really had you pumped!!

Jen in GA - Glad you got all your runs in. Your stroller running reminds me of the marathon I ran in May. A guy there set the record for the fastest marathon pushing a stroller. He finished in 2:20 or something crazy like that. It was a real windy day and he said pushing the stroller through the wind made it the hardest one he'd ever done. I'm also thinking that he must of slipped the kid an Ambien or something before the start of the race. How many 8 mo will sit quietly in a stroller for over 2 hours?

Krista, I'm glad you're enjoying your new found freedom and running for the enjoyment of it.

Steve - How training for Columbus coming? You pick a finishing time goal yet?

Krista and Steve - I definitely didn't want to bring up football after the Browns' shellacking at the hands of the Squealers and subsequent banishment of our QB, but the dawn has finally come! The Brownies are back. A force to be reckoned with! (At least until next week when they'll be lucky to find their way out of the locker room).

So this morning was a "come to Jesus" run for me.
Stephanie - The only "come to Jesus" runs I've had are the ones in 95 degrees with nothing to drink. I'm pretty sure He was calling me home a few times there. Come to think of it, maybe He was telling me I obviously took the wrong road. Glad you had a good run. Are you and DH running together at Akron? I can't recall you ever mentioning his normal pace.

Mel and Kristi - I too found a delivered package with new shoes in it. Unfortunately, it's because I placed an order at runningwarehouse.com.

Training for the Marine Corps Marathon has been going pretty well. I did have an interesting 13 miler Sunday AM. First off, I dropped my packet of Gu at mile 9, stepped on it and squirted it all over the road. Geeze, I was really looking forward to it, too.

Then, my Garmin decided to trick me into running faster the last 2 miles. I fell into the trap of trying to finish at the pace I'd been keeping all run. I noticed at around mile 11 my pace was really slowing. So I ran a little faster, then faster still. Pretty soon I'm doing my speed work at the end of the 13 mile run. Only when I was in quite a bit of discomfort did the stupid Garmin beep that it had lost the signal. :headache: It must have been the ONE cloud that was in the sky!:confused3

Happy Trails Everyone!

Good morning, everyone. :sunny:

Let the taper begin.

Yesterday was the last LW before my first full marathon (Baltimore 10/13). I'm following this Jeff Galloway training plan (http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/marathon.html) so, yes indeedy, I did my first full 26.2 miles.

It was OK. 'Bout as good as could be expected for a first time, I guess. First half was a piece of cake. Third quarter required a little effort. Last quarter I could feel blisters, achy ankles, and a misbehaving right hip. But, I made it.

The kids were great. The course finished in my neighborhood, so DS came out and accompanied me for the last mile. DD was my little nurse afterward. I spent the whole afternoon as a football head couch potato. (Blisters and sore ankles made it really painful to walk.)

The experience left me a little bummed out for 2 reasons:
1. I wanted to beat 6 hours, but couldn't. I came in at 6:11:30 (14:10 pace). :guilty: I REALLY want to beat 6 hours.

2. I came to the conclusion that I'll have to miss my HS 25th reunion on the day of the Baltimore race. I was wiped out yesterday. There was no way I could make it to a pub an hour away, stand around hoping for a seat, then drive home. Oh, well, maybe '12 for the 30th.

Have a great week, everyone.

Happy Monday, WISHers!

I failed to report on my run this weekend, so I'll play a quick catch up now. I did my 11 miles on Saturday morning. When I started it was in the low 70's and when I finished it was 80; I need to get up earlier! It was tough and my pace was all over the place. I also got a couple of blisters so I'll have to get that figured out (they did not bother me today, however). My biggest concern is regulating my pace!!

Today I had a 45 minute run scheduled. Starting out my hip was really bothering me. I decided that my goal is really to successfully finish a marathon in January, NOT to force myself into an injury by finishing a 45 minute run in September. So I dropped it to a R/W with 13/2 intervals. I stretched out pretty good at the halfway point and ended up feeling pretty good. Now I've got the frozen peas on my hip and I'll try to do that every night this week. I've just got to keep the real goal in mind!

Now, to try to catch up:

Mel - Details on the MK trip are needed! We need our fix!

WWDave - Funny, I was trying to visualize people on my 11 miler Saturday! (I needed some company)

Coco - WTG with the 8 miles!

Kim - Sounds like a great family day. We're going to try to do something all together next Saturday.

Beth - I keep waiting for it to get easier! It's amazing to me that sometimes the shorter runs are harder than the longer runs.

Steff - Good luck kicking it into high gear! Time to stay on track!

SilverSteve - PD for the achilles

Vic - Hope the feet are okay - cement blocks would not be fun to run in!

Kristi - Good for mom! Glad she got you out there!

Terri - One of my best friends is doing Kona this year. Her training schedule is INSANE!! (She's an elite)

ironz - Did you get your 6 miles done today?

Stephanie - I would LOVE to be in Running Nirvana now - just hope I get there someday!

Stacey - Those 3 weeks til RFTT will fly by!

Lou - Congrats on a GREAT race! You have definitely caught the bug!

TxAng - Hope the charley horse is better

Jen - I'm thinking I may need to do more tm to get my hip feeling better; glad it helped with the pf!

Jeanne - Isn't this cool weather great?!?

Jen in GA - Way to get the runs in! (Or should I say way to get the runs in!)

Christa - Congrats on your century! I can't believe you're doing 16 mile LR next weekend and can't wait for it!!!

Susie - Welcome back!

Leana - WTG with the Goofy training!!

Kim - PD for your first run after foot surgery!

Denny - I had to laugh at your finding it more hilly. I love to go visit family in OH and run - it is so flat!

Mike - WTG with the 13 miler!!

Kelley - I'm so impressed you got your 26.2 in! I'm sure the pace will pick up for the race.

Sorry if I missed anyone! Happy training, all!
Renee

Greetings Racing Team -

Caution: Whining. :rolleyes2

Saturday morning I did my L/R at the track. Charlie likes the track because he plugs into his Ipod and just goes and goes like the Energizer bunny. I, on the other hand, feel like I'm just going and going in circles. No scenery, no hills, just flat flat flat and around around around. Anyway, to make it even more exciting it was raining sideways and cold. Since neither of us have ever trained in the rain before we thought we should just suck it up and go because what if it rains in January? So, OK I sacrificed my oldest pair of Kayanos and out we went. I also thought I'd try the Walkman thing again, this time using Charlie's which has an anti-skip feature.

I should have known.

First off, the rain was coming down so hard I was soaked in the first five minutes. The wind was so strong it kept knocking my hat off, so I finally took it off. Then the Walkman didn't skip...it just stopped. So after the first mile of futzing with the #&^!@ thing I just took it off. Then it stopped raining and I got hot so I started taking layers off. Then my foot started hurting. I don't know how the heck I trained for and then did a half marathon in my Kayanos. After wearing my Saucony Hurricanes for L/Rs all year the Kayanos feel like slippers. I can only wear them on the TM I guess. To compensate for my foot hurting so much I started walking funny I guess and my knees started hurting. For crying out loud! I wanted to give in but since it was only four miles I keep trying to stick it out. Which I did. My splits stink but here they are:

1) 14:02
2) 13:37
3) 13:15
4) 11:32

I like to save some for the last mile and this time I tried to make up for the first three lousy miles so my last split was OK.

Then all the rest of the day Saturday and aaaaaaaalllllll day yesterday I worked outside. Landscaping and barn chores and projects. So even though I had everything all laid out to train this morning, I just could not get up at 4:15am. Grrrr.

Kristi - Get out! You won new running shoes? Dang, that is lucky! :thumbsup2 Hey I'm glad you got some training in. Kudos to your mom!

Bill - Thank you for your kind words and for protecting me last week. I 'm usually not on-line during the weekend. What I'd really like to do is get on my horse and ride off into the sunset away from this office! :headache: Grrrr.

WWDave - Sorry I missed the turkey leg question. But I see you got a lot of correct answers without me. HEY! HEY! I have never parked like that! :snooty:

Mel - Oh man! You won too?? :thumbsup2 Guess I should have entered. :guilty: Umm, I was NOT XT in the way you all think! Now stop that! Hee hee. Excellent pace! That would be a fabulous finish time for the Full! YAY! :woohoo:

Stephanie - OMG that's awful! How sad. Thanks for the safety reminder. Holy cow! Your splits are rocking! :thumbsup2

Lou - That is fab-u-lous! Way to go! Excellent finish time! :woohoo:

Susie - I'm glad to see you here!

MSDave -

Good Morning Team!!!!!!

Starting taper.....yikes, what a difference in milage. The mid week ones are the same but next Sunday only a 6K....we had 20K this weekend. I am very excited about my first 1/2 and of course meeting Beth and Kevin

WWDave I think my fav value would be POP, give them a try you can't beat the price I actually really like them, the entire resort is so disneyish I love it. Also I have done alot of cruises but none where I have left my vehicle at the resort. If you do the land and sea package with Disney and Disney wonder I think that is how it works.

Beth Congrats on your 10M, hope to be able to meet up with you at the Scotia.

Connie We will be partying all the way through the run, we can't wait till the finish line for that. No WISHer ever gets left behind. Someone very wise here told me that once:hug:

Steve PD for your achillies:wizard:

Vic WTG on the 6 M and great pace!!!! PD:wizard: for continued pain free training.

Kristi WTG to you and mom on your training this weekend. Mom's have a way of knowing what you need and she knew you needed to get out for your training.

Terri WTG on getting your 2 workouts in this weekend. The hardest part for me is the first part. I am always quicker on the first part of any of my training walks. Also the first 2 or 4K cause If I am going to get shin splints thats when they happen so I almost hold my breath at the beginning.

Ironz Enojoy your 6M today

Stephanie So sorry to hear about your friend. How tragic. Please everyone be careful.

Lourodriqis Congrats on a successfull run this weekend....You ROCK!!!!:dance3:

TXAng How is the charley horse today??? Hope you are feeling better.

BAHHH HAAAA HAAA.... You kill me!!! Notice the sarcastic "!!!!!" you will never know if I am truly admitting he is right or not!!!!!

Kim I have a friend in the Yukon, who you will meet at the marathon weekend. She is the one who on a trail race was chased by a bear. I asked her "You must have been terrified". She replied, "Naw, it wasn't the biggest bear I've seen and as soon as I passed someone the bear was their problem".
You remind me of her. Her husband is a retired Dr and she only works in the summer months, the rest of the year they travel around the Caribbian in their boat.

Judy, sorry your 4 miler was sucky. I agree though about the track, I will go to a track when I want to do intervals but other than that give me the road even with the traffic. Your last mile was about my race pace for a 4 miler.

I went for a 8.1 mile walk, odd distance but it's a big loop through town. Total time was 1:48 or right at 13 min per mile. Then I did the yard work.

I need to start doing weights 3 times a week, Robert say's we have to cheer for the Cowboys and he also said that they beat people up for that in the ESPN Club. So I better toughen up.

Have an awesome day guys.

Dave:hippie:

How about, we beat up Robert for cheering for the Cowboys and we'll cheer for the Cowboy Cheerleaders. :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

Dennyha - Oh the NC/SC hills! Gotta love them...but just think, after a 20 mile run in Charlotte/Fort Mill, WDW will be cake!;)

Kelly - It will be easier in the race! WTG on that time!

Anyway, to make it even more exciting it was raining sideways and cold. Since neither of us have ever trained in the rain before we thought we should just suck it up and go because what if it rains in January?
Judy - It could always rain so that was a good call....if it makes you feel any better...running in the rain is easier than biking in the rain. Not only does the rain come down on you, but it also comes up from the road....I know this b/c it rained during my century! But GIRL! I could not do a LR on a track....BTW, all those turns are bad for your knees.

Ran today! 4.something very hilly miles. 7.5 MPM ave. Not too bad for recovering from a century. But it felt wonderful.:cool1:

How about, we beat up Robert for cheering for the Cowboys and we'll cheer for the Cowboy Cheerleaders. :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

Now Now, not everyone can have good taste on who their favorite football team is:rolleyes1

What's up with your Bengals. Hope they don't cost us(Cowboys) the 1st overall pick in 08 NFL Draft.(We have Clevelands #1 as part of the Brady trade)! Go everyone against the Browns! Except maybe the Steelers:rolleyes1

Actually, I'm a Raiders fan. :thumbsup2
