Wk Of Sept 15 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Christa -- congrats on your century!! :thumbsup2

Kelley -- How awesome it is that you finished all those miles! And that time totally rocks!!!! Wait until you see what the adrenaline will motivate on race day! :cool1:

Judy -- I agree with Christa that all those turns can't be good for the knees.

Well, I am still sore from my 8 miles Saturday. My hip isn't as bad as I'd feared, so that's good. I am really hoping to make it to the core strengthening class Tuesday or Thursday nights of this week.

This coming Saturday may actually be the one when I get to that muscle pump class. I wish it weren't scheduled for 7:45 a.m., which is about 1.5-2 hours into the time I usually spend doing my LRs. I may end up doing part of my LR, going to the class, and then going back to finish the LR. UGH! Logistical nightmare now that my LRs are over 8 miles! But there is no way I can get to the gym for the 7:45 class and then start on the TM at 8:45 -- just too late!

Happy training, all!

Mel - I hate that we didn't make it to meet up with you guys!! I cna't wait to see what the HM looks like now!!

WW Dave - Yesterday was almost 90 here!! Do you mind sharing some of those cooler temps!!!

Stephanie - That is so sad to hear. That's one of the reasons I absolutely refuse to run in the dark. Not only because I'm afraid of the dark, but because I want people to be able to see me too. Amazing job on that run!! Looks like I'm not the only speedy one out here!!

Lourodrigis - Awesome job on that run, and a great pace too!!

Jen in GA - Congrats on getting those runs in. I love my jogging stroller, for the main reason that my DS2 loves to fall asleep in it. Even when he doesn't though, he'll take his little toy camera and take pics of all the animals he sees on the way!! That was the best invention ever made for Mom's who run!!

Christa - I can't believe your training for a marathon again already!! I so WISH you were gonna be there in january!! Great Job on that ride!! And by the way.... Thanks for the excuse to avoid the track!! :thumbsup2

OK, well I had 7 miles planned for today. I ran the first and last mile as a warm up/cool down. Then the 5 in between I ran in intervals. My avg for the 5 miles was a 7:47 mpm. Seriously, I didn't believe it either, but it felt REALLY good at that pace. Today was another day on the treadmill, but that was more for my own sanity than anything else. See, the last few 7 miles runs I tried to put in at my Rail Trail we had animal problems. First the whole herd of cows, the second 7 miler the bulls got in my way, then the last time DS2 (in his jogging stroller) and I were chased by two REALLY agressive little dogs. So I decided to hit the treadmill instead of risking more nasty animals on this 7 miler!! My biggest fear is that once I get back on the road my pace is going to slow down drastically. It's alot easier to just set the MPH knowing all I have to do is keep up, than it is to keep myself at a certain pace. We'll see though.

Dana

Well I guess I should chime in on the NFL football thing. I am not a big NFL fan I prefer CFL but I do have 2 teams that I cheer for ......is it same to say it here.....New Orleans and Jacksonville...so far I am not doing too good. ;)

WWDave....I like the way she thinks, I always say when we go for walks through our local forest. I just have to out run 1 person....:lmao: :lmao:

Hi Cam.....

:lmao: Quite a defensive game the Bengals and the Browns had yesterday.

Actually, I'm a Raiders fan. :thumbsup2

I haven't watched foorball for several years. The Radiers are still playing? What city are they in now?pirate:

Kim, see I knew you were just like her. She is about 5' tall and my age and is always doing something awesome. She went Backpacking across the Rocky mountians last winter.:cool1:

Robert, does ESPN charge us extra for our Beer and Wings if we are cheering for the Cowboys? Or just beat the crap out of us and throw us in the lake.:scared1:

Oh I have been training...well I actually just kept my mileage up at 15 miles so I guess I am starting my training at 16 miles.:goodvibes Glad it is getting cooler here though. I think that will help my times.
WTG on the run! I WISH I were going to WDW too. We could run together this year. We would have a blast! Are you going for sub 4 this year? I was on track for a sub 4 last year @ WDW...hit mile 20 at 3:03...BUT the heat kicked in there! It took me 1:12 to do the last 10k!:scared1: My "coach said I would have finished in less than 4 if it had not been so HOT! So I choose to think he is right!:goodvibes
I am trying for it in Charlotte, but as Denny has already stated...our hills are killer. Charlotte's course (I am not kidd'n) went uphill the whole way until the last 2 miles.:confused3 So I may try again in Febuary at Myrtle Beach...AHHH, flat!:) Sorry...I ramble! TMI!

:laundy: - DDs wanted me to put this on here b/c I am ALWAYS doing laundry!

Christa,
Was your century ride in Myrtle Beach this past weekend?
M'Lisse and I decided that we were going to take a weekend off of the whole unpacking gig and spend 3 nights at Myrtle Beach. While there, we saw all of the signage for the MS Century Ride. I told M'Lisse that I knew you were doing that, but I didn't know if everyone was at Myrtle Beach, or if there were several locations running simultaneously. We haven't met you in Charlotte, but we may have seen you biking in Myrtle Beach.

Congratulations on your ride.

I am still debating on what time I am shooting for. My original goal for last year was 4:30, but I was so excited with all of the pictures with characters and the heat that it took me 5:49. Which given my LR times was way off. My training was pretty shotty last year though. I only ran 3 days a week. I did 3 miles on Tue and Thur and then a LR on Saturday. I think my MAX mileage was something like 26, and that was with a 20 mile LR. This year I am sticking to that plan of 4:30, but if my speed keeps up with the way it has been I would be in heaven to shoot for a sub 4. I run 4 days a week, and my MAX mileage is supposed to be almost 40.I am actually doing speed and hill work this year, let me tell you it's hard to find real hills in FL. I have found a place out near the beach that's pretty hilly. I am going to have a 20 a 23 and another 20 LR during training this year, and bar any injuries I should be pretty well prepared. Now if I can just avoid the characters.... well..... except for MICKEY.... somehow I missed him last year so I just HAVE to get a picture with him this year. I am thinking right outside of Animal Kingdom. He didn't look too busy there!! That and I gotta stop that whole crying thing.... that was bad last year. Every time someone cheered my name I started to cry and my chest would tighten up so bad it felt hard to breathe. I swear I might run with my music just so I can't hear people scream for me!! My goal is to run about a 8:40 pace for the marathon, and only walk through the water stops. That should actually put me in around 3:45, but I am trying to build a little bit of a cushion, ya know?! Ok, now who's rambling!!

I am hoping that one of these days you and I will be able to get a run in together, wether it be at Disney or somewhere else!! I might have to plan a vacation around the marathon in Charlotte just so we can!!

By the way.... don't feel bad.... you aren't the only one who's always doing laundry. I did 5 loads today!! :laundy:

Jen – Good job on the run! Glad to hear that your foot is feeling better.

Hoosmi – Yay for getting those runs in!

Christa – I’m in awe of your century ride. That rocks!

Leana – Great job on those training runs! Glad they felt good.

Kim – So, how was your first run after the surgery? Hope it went well!

Denny – Hey, all those hills mean you’ll be in extra good shape for the races!

Optimator – Bummer about the Gu and the Garmin death! That’s frustrating.

Kelley – Great job on finishing your first 26.2! Hope you’re not feeling too sore today.

Renee – Hope your hip stops hurting. Great job on the 11 miles in the hot weather.

Judy – Rain AND track running? Good for you for sticking with it and doing all 4 miles! I think I would have packed it up and gone home.

Kim – Enjoy your tapering! The leg is much better today, thanks for asking!

Cam – Hope your soreness goes away!

Dana – That’s a lot of animal craziness! I would have chosen the TM, too!

DH and I were good last night and got our walk in. Aimed to do one mile, and we actually finished 1.4! Yay! I made DH wear the Garmin so I wouldn't stare at it and obsess over how slow we were going and try to push too hard. :)

Hi everyone,

Geez, I stay away from the computer for one day and I'm already 50 posts behind :guilty: ! I'm really trying to stay current on this weekly thread. There are some great, dedicated training efforts being posted--great job everyone! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the well-WISHes for my sore (L) achilles; today my whole (L) calf is pretty knotted/painful, so I'm going to dial it back on training and take the next several days off to get things right. My LR last week was 10 mi, and I'm scheduled to run a half marathon in 3 weeks, so we'll see how it goes.

Happy training to all.

Drive-by to let you all know I've finally updated The WISH Team calendar.

I'll be baaaacck! Soon.

Hi everyone!

I am happy to report that I am 99% recovered from my July injury and got the go ahead to start training for Donald. I am still having some wierd numbness issues on the outside of my leg, but the doctor assures me that it is simply caused by some minor inflamation in my piriformis. Stretching really helps and, when I remember to get up and walk around every hour at work, I only occationally have any symptoms. I also spend a good amount of time sitting on a tennis ball, but other than receiving some strange looks from my coworkers, it is a simple way to deal with an annoying problem.

Anyway, I ordered a treadmill a few weeks ago and it arrives tomorrow! I can't wait to try it out. I got out my calendar and scheduled everyday of training between tomorrow and Donald. I am using Hal Higdon's novice plan to set my distance goals, but the MfM interval suggestions to work up to a R4/W1 pace. I am starting out at R1/W3 and will gradually increase my running time while decreasing my walking time. Someone (Krista?) mentioned quite awhile ago that the trouble with the MfM plan is training by time during the week isn't exactly good motivation to go faster and I agree. I pick up the pace when I know I need to finish 4 miles rather than knowing I get to stop at 45 minutes no matter how far I go.

So I have the equipment, I have a plan, and now I am regaining my motivation. Life is good.

P.S. I managed to talk three people in my office into signing up for the Indy mini-marathon. We won't be literally training together, but it should be great to have each other around for motivation and support.

Morning all - drive by as spent so long reading all the posts that I've now got 5 minutes before I have to head off to the bank to ask for a mortgage (gulp) and I spose I'd better brush my hair before I leave!!!

Then I have to head down to the race centre to pick up my race pack for the Sydney half that's this Sunday - (even louder gulp) - thankfully I whizzed round my run this morning feeling like a little flying thing which has filled me with a little more confidence that it's not going to suck (admittedly, the run was only 3 miles!!)

I did get out Saturday and do 1.50 - but I was sooooooo thirsty that I headed in ten minutes early. I'd gone through all my powerade and it wasnt even that hot, I don't think I'd drunk enough the day before.

So that's all my news - glad to see everyone is doing well this week. Helen

I finally got a little training in yesterday. I did 4.15 miles with an 11:01 pace. It was a little cooler, only 85, when I went out but it seemed that being under 90 helped quite a bit. Now if it could just get a little cooler, the weather would be perfect.

Christa - Great job on your century ride. That is a great accomplishment.

Helen - Good luck at the bank. Hope they give you the money that you want without too much of a fight.

Lily - Great to see you stop by.

SilverSteve - Hope your pains can get better before your race. Don't overdo it at this point.

TxAng - Great job on getting out.

WWDave - Are you feeling ok, your posts have been way too calm recently. If it keeps up too much, you might have to kick yourself out of the YARC club that you created. ;) Maybe it's because Vic isn't egging you on right now though...

Dana - Great job on the run. That is a fantastic pace to keep for the entire time. You should have no problems on reaching your goals this year.

Cam - Glad that things aren't too bad with your hip.

Judy - Good job on going out in those conditions. I can't say that I would have done that. :rolleyes1 Hope the rest of your week is better.

Renee - Hope your hip feels better. I agree that it is better to rest and not get injured in triaining.

Kelley - Great job on doing the 26.2 miles. Hope you are able to recover from it quickly. Enjoy your taper time.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Bill

Bill, when I told Erica I was going to try and stay out of trouble this week she that was very out of character for me. Chaos, Panic and Confusion is more fun so I probably won't make it all week without getting in trouble.

As I told Robert the other day it's hard to stir the pot as much as I do and not get some on you. He said I should take a shower then since I get it all over me.

Anyway it was cool again when the dog and I went out to pee this morning. Our walk should be pleasent. This will be Erica's start to her Goofy training, that tooth issue has kept her sidelined.

We decided we are going to the Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg Tn, for our last week of training before taper. The town is lots of rolling hills and good sights. So a couple of 20 milers there should leave us ready to taper.

Have an awesome day y'all.

:lmao:

I have 3 miles on tap for later this afternoon. I will probably run while Michael is at football practice tonight!! The only down side to this is that 1) it's the path near the beach so it's my "hilly" area and 2) with this little noreaster (sp?) we just got the wind is gonna be "kickin' chicken' ". I am planning on slowing down a bit for it though, especially since I'll be pushing that stroller. I can't complain too much I could be pushing the double stroller with Lucas and Michael in it!! That's really a work out!! I hope everyone has a wonderful day, I'll check back in later.

Dana

Ok.... how'd we end up with a Canadian Fan rooting for Jacksonville?! Seriously though..... GO JAGS!! We haven't done great this year, but there are plenty of teams doing MUCH worse already. If we canned Matt Jones the way we canned Byron Leftwich we'd be in much better shape. Heck.... it was David Garrard that got us to the playoffs a couple of years ago, and then Leftwich started the first playoff game and we lost. I blame it all on him!! This year should be ALOT better.

Dana

I made it to Fit Ball class last night where we did lots and lots of lunges....some push ups on the stability ball, and lots of ab work. Tonight I am aiming for 5 or 6 miles, so we'll see how that goes. Overnight and tomorrow we have a forecast of rain or snow...yikes! :cold:

Did my 3 miles on the TM today. Yay! Green entry in the calendar (it's the simple things in life...)

So, the day after I gave the Nike+ Virtual Half people my $45 for the privilege of running my LR by myself in my neighborhood (that keychain better rock!), my Nike+ turned on me. It keeps losing the signal when I'm on the TM. I think it's ok outside, but what if it does it for the Half?! Talk about a love/hate relationship.

Question for Dana- I decided to take your lead on that whole "run faster to be faster" thing, and I did my last mile today around 8:40. The first two were about 9:50 and 9:30. I would have flown off the back of the TM if I had to take one more step. Do you just gradually keep upping the distance (within reason- as in eventually work my way up to running the whole 3-5 that fast?) I understand that in theory I'll be faster in a short race, but will it really work in a marathon or just get me hurt before I get there? :rotfl: Anway, I have a new respect for that pace.

Leana- snow?! I threw out my last ice scraper years ago. :lmao: It was a little chilly this morning though (67 F). I saw a woman riding her bike with earmuffs. After I laughed about her cold ears (it's going to be in the 80s today), I started to panic about getting some cold weather running stuff, so I guess I owe earmuff lady an apology.

Christa- loved your pictures and race report!

TexAng-
I can't believe I haven't told you congrats!

Meghan- how cool you got others to enter a race- I can't convince anyone (and believe me, I've tried). Let us know how you like your TM.

Judy- can't believe you kept going in the rain! I wouldn't have even gone to the track...

Cam- how's the kitchen look?

People keep walking in my office and trying to see what I am minimizing... hmmm... guess I need to look productive. Stupid life interfering with my running fun!

Jen in GA

Greetings -

Quick drive - by as WTO yet again! :headache:

Did 45 min @ 3.9 @ 1%. I'm starting to dial up the intensity a tiny bit in an effort to increase my speed and lose some....excess baggage.

Christa - Excellent advice about all those turns being bad for the knees. I'm going to remember that next Saturday. :thumbsup2

WWDave and Vic - You guys kill me! :lmao: It must be football season. Is it? :confused3

Dana - I congratulate you on I'm pretty sure being the only person to have an issue with both cows and bulls on a L/R. Yeah, suddenly the TM doesn't look so bad, eh?

Helen - Good luck with the mortgage and race! I hope they both go well. :thumbsup2

Leana - Please don't say the "S" word yet! :scared:
