Wk Of Nov 18 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Thanks everyone! :thumbsup2

OK, so skort and no rain jacket. Now about the top... I only have white short sleeve wicking shirts! :lmao:

I do have a long sleeve black wicking top, course I think it might be heavier than the jacket. :headache:

Maybe I need to run up to Target right now. :rotfl2:

Good luck everyone! :goodvibes

Kristi Hope you feel better soon. Be careful with the steroids, you don't want to become the Barry Bonds of the WDW half marathon. Kudos for at least being forth coming about your performance enhancing drug use.:thumbsup2

Hehehehe

Just a quick drive-by to say HAPPY THANKSGIVING to everyone!!! I hope everyone has a great day tomorrow.

I got in 6 miles today of my 8 mile run. I ended up taking a nap after work and didn't end up going out for my run until almost 3:30 and by the time I was finishing it was starting to get dark, so I stopped at 6 miles!

Good Luck to all those doing races tomorrow!

WWDave - Thanks for this - We must never replace our passion for seeing and doing under our own power. So many people live their lives and never really know their limits and never experience the awesome pleasure that comes from pushing through them. - You never really understand this until you actually experience it!!

Stacie - Congrats for getting out there and doing it!!!

Kristi - Sorry about the brochitis that is no fun - at least you are getting it taken care of before the half.

Shan - Good luck in the race tomorrow. I will be praying for no rain for just the race and then let it pour down since I know how hard it is living with drought!! Could you wear your long sleeve with a tank under??

Laurie - Yeah I know - like we could have expected for anything to go right with Jr this season. Where he had his first wreak (coming off pit road is where our seat are Turn 4 3 rows from the top - great to see the WHOLE track - same ones we have had since 2004 even though we have been going to the race for the last 6 - we love it!! I am attaching a picture of Dale Jr after driver intros - he had just got out of the truck that drives them around the track and the crowd cheered for him and he waved - see why I love my seats so much

AT least Kurt came in 2nd so my husband at least let me stay till the end - he was excited for me (that my guy was doing good) This was the first time we have stayed till the end - most times our guys are doing bad so we leave a little early to beat traffic!! Still beat others back to the resort from the race so I guess we didn't do too bad!! Then again I didn't need to see Jimmie get another championship!! :sad2:

To everyone who has race/runs tomorrow - Good luck
To all WISHer's - Have a Happy Thanksgiving eat lots of turkey and stuffing but not so much that you feel like  on Friday.
All WISHer's traveling - Be safe and have a happy and healthy holiday!!!

As for me I was able to get out and do 2 miles this AM - first time in a week and it wasn't pretty. I didn't run too much before I had to stop due to my breathing (can really tell the loss of conditioning in just a week layoff) I went to the Dr for my shoulder today and he says that unfortunately I was born with not enough space between my shoulder bone and the collar bone so when I reach across my body, jogging after alot of miles (in the TOT 13k it started bothering me right before mile 6 and had to keep it still at my side) or when I am laying on my right side on that shoulder it bothers me and up until the "pain in my necK" last week I didn't bother to go to a Dr. Well he shot me with Cortisone (had to actually stick the needle in 2 times since the first he said was "too tight" :scared1: So a few minutes after he injected it there was less pain in the shoulder so he gave me Celebrex samples and a prescription for Naproxen and I have a PT appointment for 8AM on Saturday am I :upsidedow for scheduling it that early? I just figured get it done with early so I have the rest of the day. It feels sore where the needle went in (2 times!!) but hopefully the meds will kick in and it will feel better soon. Oh and I asked him about my recurring shin splints and he suggested running on a track - as aspalt is about as bad as concrete - judging by the look on his face when I said I tried not to run to much on concrete and mainly on asphalt. Not sure how often that will happen. He did mention the increase in milage could have done it - and I did increase the milage pretty quickly for TOT. But I am trying to keep it conditioned until I sign up for another race. I also need new shoes but don't have the extra $120 - hopefully next paycheck or the next.

Oh well better get off and get to sleep for the big day tomorrow - I ended up breaking my laptop this AM (LCD screen broke inside - have to be thankful for extended warranty plans and this happening a month before it expires.) So I am stuck on the desktop :rolleyes1

Hopefully I will be able to check in tomorrow - won't be running outside tomorrow but might get a little in on the TM - does that mean I am addicted?

Macho panda - isn't that an oxymoron (Vic/Bill...you know you want to....). Am now imagining Panda's in checked shirts carrying hods full of bricks or arm wrestling over the bamboo cans while crushing root beer cans in their little paws... sorry, overactive imagination......

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL WISHers. Good luck to those running and prayers to all traveling. No delays would definitely be a blessing.

WWDave: Best Turkey Day sentiments I have heard in a long time. I am thankful for stumbling across this board and very thankful for the kind words and motivation that my WISH friends have given me. Anytime I feel like blowing off a workout, I just come here and find the light. Oh, and a little good-hearted ribbing never hurt anyone!! :lmao:

Kristi: :wizard: to you with your bronchitis. I did a ditto last year and nearly ended up in the hospital from it. I did walk though even when the prednisone was just starting to come around. I however, was not smart enough to get in early and ended up with 2 courses. I also find that keeping some trail mix or almonds on my desk helps during steroid munchie crisis. That and lots of water. I am going to look at the Hampton Half and see if I think I can swing it. February is hard for us with all the snow and we will be in full ski mode, but I will see the details and get back to you. Maybe you could come up skiing????? :flower3:

Shan: I am late but you know the better late than never...You need to invest in a jacket that zips into a vest. It is INVALUABLE during one of those yucky, sticky, rainy runs. I have managed to be able to zip the sleeves off and never break pace, throw it back on and go. I LOVE mine and use it frequently just for that purpose. Also, if I am layered, I pin the number to my pants/shorts to avoid any issue with removing layers.

GOOD LUCK to all and happy stuffing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!popcorn::

Lisa - I so did not want the dreaded prednisone! I eat everything in sight on that. I told the doctor that I really, really did not want to take it unless I had to. So, he put me on a really low dose / # of days. He also said I could try to hold off on the antibiotics for a day or two (I get nasty side effects from them). So, I am going to see if the predisone can do the trick first. Let me know if you decided to do the Hampton race. I really on the fence about it since it will be very cold. I used to ski from about 5 years old until just out of college. I haven't been in years & years, but would like to do that again. It's just so darn expensive!

Tricia - lots of :wizard: and  for you!

Kristi: Totally hear you on the prednisone thing. My doc looked at me last year and said "you are one of those asthmatics that we worry about" cuz I never say anything until I am in full blow status asthmaticus. :confused3 You'd think I would learn after all these years!!! We race ski which is XC with speed. It is an awesome aerobic workout. We have 15 miles of groomed private trails (my FIL grooms them smooth after every trip around) and the kids slide themselves silly. We have a little "camp" on the property which is just up from my house and there is a fire in the camp for the kids to stay warm. We are there from about 10 a.m until the sun goes down usually. Needless to say, I love snow!!! :woohoo:

I am wondering about doing the Hampton for the same reason as you. I am hoping to do the Minnie and I would hate to have something happen in the cold to compromise that. I will think about it over the holidays, I read that we have until January 23rd before the registration goes up so plenty of time to mull it over, after the bloat settles.

Good luck with the bronchitis, take care of yourself and DON'T be like me!!!:scared1:

Good morning WISH Team.

Well for some reason yesterday after noon I started getting pain in my lower back just over my left butt cheek. It was still there this morning so I'm not doing the Turkey Trot this morning. I don't think I said anything to Erica that resulted in a kick in the butt, however being senile and a smart donkey, it could have happened.

I'm enjoying 3 advil and a using my stick to try to work the soreness out. I'm sure there are a few people on the WISH who would enjoy taking a stick to me. Especially cute pretty princesses that might have been led to believe the band at ToT was going to be a little more famous than it was.

Today it's perfectly acceptable to wear your bathrobe to post on the WISH site, since if your on here like I am there is no one else around anyway. My dear lady is a nurse so she will be going to work to day. My dear daughter works nights also so she will sleep till early afternoon. We are planning a late lunch of a ham and goodies. No meat pies though.

Everyone have a super day of eating and visiting family and friends.

Gobble Gobble Panda:hippie:

Good morning Panda!! :wave2:

pixiedust: for your sore back, stretch, stretch, stretch.

Something I learned lately (from my SIL) is that we are all needing the lordosis (curve in your back right before your backside) to be deeper as that is a sign that our hammies are not tight. I have found 4 yoga stretches for just that reason (plus releasing the dreaded IT band).

So, again, Panda, stretch, stretch, stretch...and, I am working right now, have been since 5 a.m.! :scared1: Got woke up by a deer jacker this morning at 1 a.m.!! :scared1: :scared1:

Happy Thanksgiving all! We made it Houston w/ no issues--even the kids were really well behaved. Looked like everyone was leaving south Texas, it was bumper to bumper the other direction. DH and I had planned on running this morning, but neither of us imagined being up all night with kiddos who didn't want to sleep. Not sick, just in a strange environment. Oh well, maybe tomorrow. Have a great day all!

Morning folks - happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

I forgot to post that I ran 3.63 mi yesterday in 38:46 for a 10:42/mi pace. The cold weather has arrived here, along with smatterings of snow. Today I have another 3 miles on tap.

Have a great day everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Out for 4.25 this morning. 68 degrees and a lttle humid. But, it wasn't too bad out there.

Tricia - Glad to you had a great time at Homestead. Poor Jr., I bet he's glad the season's over and he can move over to HMS. I hope he comes out of the box smoking next year. I'd like to see him fighting for the championship, if not 2008, in 2009. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Hi Team....

Happy Turkey Day :)

Yesterday I pretty much rested...aside from teaching my one pilates class ;). I wanted to be fresh for the race this morning. I got up and out of the house at 6:30 am :scared1: . Then managed to get lost and more lost and finally ready to burst into tears as I was driving around downtown Newark. NOT where the race was supposed to be held! YIKES! Between the blinding fog and unfamiliarity with the area...I was in a mess. I honestly thought I'd never get to the race. I got there just in time to pick up my packet...wrap my new tech shirt :goodvibes around my waste...dump my goody bag :( because I didn't want to run with it....and run to the starting line. It was an 8K race...very well organized...well attended....and the fog gave way to a sunny day and warm temps! I had a PR of 43:24 for the 8K (5 miles). I'm very pleased with the race...I think I could have pushed a little faster but I haven't run a 5K or 10K speedy race since my injury last year and I honestly wasn't sure where to pace myself. So I erred a little on the cautious side but still felt like I pushed pretty hard :). I'm very pleased with the results. The Ashenfelter 8K is a true runners race...and of course the long sleeved tech shirt was an awesome bonus!!! :thumbsup2

Hello everyone!

Amy - GREAT JOB!!! A PR on Turkey Day, and after that stressful drive...way to go buddy!

I ran the Gobble Jog 10k here in Marietta (a Peachtree Road Race qualifier). After waking up to thunderstorms (lightining included...yikes!) and heavy downpours, the rain finally subsided about 10 minutes before race time :goodvibes: I managed to accomplish a PR of 49:32 (watch time...'official' time I think was 49:45), which also qualifies me for a higher seeded group should I decide to run the Peachtree this year :)

Was a great day for me out there :)

I hope everyone has a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!!

INCREDIBLE PACE SCOTT!!!!!!! :thumbsup2 WOW! I'm soooo jealous LOL!

Look at you...in the best seeded spot for the Peach Tree behind those elites! :worship: I totally aspire to that kind of pace. WAY TO GO!

A very happy Turkey Day to each and every one of you! I spent the first 3 1/2 hours this morning, starting at 7:00 am, in the kitchen. Got the turkey in the brine, made breakfast (muffins, sausage, scrambled eggs with cheese) then made and baked the dessert and made and baked the stuffing (I don't stuff the turkey--stuffing is evil if stuffed in the bird) then flipped the bird in the brine and did all the dishes multiple times before I could even get in the shower. DD cooked lunch. The bird is now snuggled in the oven. I've got 2 hours before I need to tend to something else.

WWDave: so sorry to hear about the back! :wizard: and pixiedust: for a speedy recovery. LOVE the new panda! Thank you for the lovely sentiments. We do have a lot to be thankful for.

Scott: awesome run! Even if it just stopped raining the thought of running on slick streets would be a bit daunting for me. You did great! :thumbsup2

princessrunner: what is a deer jacker? Maybe I don't want to know?

Amy: so sorry you had all that mess up trying to find the start of the race but am happy you made it in time. And great job on the race!!! :woohoo:

I'm mixing things up this week and will do my long run tomorrow rather than on Sunday. I'm going to run short out and backs to get in 3 hours 45 minutes. I'll wait until after the rush hour and rush to the mall happens and spend mid-day running. I won't be too far from the house in case I need to get back. You know, too much turkey and all the trimmings getting to me ;)

It's supposed to be rather cold tomorrow so I'll need to wear a hat and gloves this time.

I hope everyone has had a lovely day. Kudos to all running races today and this weekend. Catch you later!!!
