Wk of May 13--WISH Walking/Running Club

Wow, it is only tuesday and I haven't even had a chance to read all of this week's posts! I will read them later and try to post again, but I wanted to give a training update!!

I finally ran this weekend!! It was the first run since my half a few weeks ago. I only did 2 miles on saturday and then I went out and did 3.6 miles today. I wanted to go further today, but I just wasn't feeling it at all!!! So, I stopped. I do plan on running tomorrow and thursday also.

It definetely felt good to get back out there and running after a couple of weeks break, although I do think I needed a little bit of a break.

I hope everyone is having a great week! I will try to catch up with everyone a little bit later on!

Okay, I finally made time to upload the picture of Howard, DDalmost14 and me at our 5k Sunday a.m. You may not be able to tell, but it was very, very chilly (until I started jogging, then it was just right! :) )

e97f616c.jpg

I forgot that I'd loaned my short sleeved WISH shirt to a fellow WISHer for the Minnie, so we had to do some shuffling -- Howard wore my sleeveless, I wore his short-sleeved and DS just wore a regular shirt. We got a lot of ribbing about the color being better than caffeine. :lmao:

Dave - Thanks and The Quad Cities Marathon on Sept 23. is the race I am planning on running.
Christa - Yep, this will be my first one, ever. I did the 1/2 at the same race last year (my first 1/2), and then the 1/2 at WDW. So it's kind of nice doing my first full the same race where I did my first 1/2 (but I have to wait until 2009 for a return trip to WDW for any races).
Mark - I was wondering how big the Distance Classic was, now I know. Awesome times, too. I live in Davenport and had considered doing the Distance Classic 5K, but I could not get switched out of the weekend (who wants to work on Mothers Day). But I am definitely doing the Bix this year, and if it's not as hot as last year, may end up running it. According to the WDW Marathon website, it looks like packet pickup for the marathon is still available Saturday, just warns about long lines though.
Stephanie - Good luck with your training. Hal has some great programs, and I like how he breaks it down into Novice, Intermediate, Advanced.
Maria - What I like about John Bingham's books is how regular of a guy he is. I also think his column in Runner's World has a great mix of motivation and humor. That race looks fun, plus the Brewstock looks great! Just thinking about a postrace party in a brewery with BarBQue is making me drool on my keyboard right now.
Cam - Thank you, not just for your word of encouragement, but also for your inspiring dedication and committment. Not just getting in your early AM workout, but for your awesome Journal (Cam's New Lease on Life). You have inspired countless number of people here, and there are many who call you their hero (I am one of them).

Well, I got in my 35min r/w today. It was about 20 deg. cooler today than yesterday when I got out. 65deg and sprinkling, but it made for a good run. I work tomorrow, but only an 8 hr shift, so I shouldn't have any excuse not to get in my XT.

Happy Training!

Jen, take it from me—don’t think of yourself as old. We are all young here!

Dave, how exciting that your race w/DDs is coming up so soon. I can’t wait for this report. I am sure it will be such a fun event. Good for you to get in the swog. I’ve missed mine the last couple of weeks. I will be getting in plenty next week! Swoggin’ and beach runnin’ for me!

Cam, I think your 3 hr event is definitely in your future. You are really there now, just that it will feel better in August after you’ve had some more time in your training.

Mike, V&A, I LOVE your pick!

Craig, Yay! for getting in the grades. Enjoy the time with your Mom—I WISH you can find something to enjoy and her leaving is not the part of which I was thinking.

Martha, stay outta the way and you’ll enjoy MIL visit. You will be fine!

Stephanie, I think the Akron runs partly in the park. I am a bit farther north, but it is kind of near. If I can maybe I’ll try to cheer ya on.

Kelley, I am sorry to hear about DH’s accident. Glad that he will be ok. I know he is feeling badly now though. PD, and prayers that all goes well and he has a quick smooth recovery.

Cecilia, good to have you back. Are you running virtually with the fall folks?

Vic, what a fine thing you did for DW for Mother’s Day! I WISH that you received good news about the foot.

HM, good for you getting in training on the hills. It will help later for sure.

Andrew, ohboy for you getting in your training. You’ve got no problem with 16 weeks instead of 20.

Maria, the shuffle will only shuffle songs, the Nano lets you pick and it will also shuffle. Depends on the stuff you want to do.

MarkM, good luck getting things lined up for the full. Keep at it.

Kevin, keep at what you’re doing, try to not overdo as your official training is in gear just be careful to go with the program. Listen to your body if it needs a rest take it. You don’t want injury or sickness.

Cam, great pic. That is DS almost 14! What a great family pic.

I've got lots doing tonight again so will have to see what training I can squeeze in. Next week...Cancun, beach running and pool swogging and fitness cetner all I want! Ahhhh

Good evening everyone!

The doc says I have a nice case of DF. No running for a month, ice the area 3 times daily, and she prescribed anti-inflammatories (Mobic). If it doesn't get better, shots may be in order. I feel it getting better already. :thumbsup2

Kelley - Sorry to hear about your DH. I hope he heals quickly and you find the diry bugger that hit him.

Jen - Happy Birthday!

Andrew - Good luck with your training.

Cam - Great pic!

I know I missed a lot of folks. Sorry.

Take care.

:)

Kelley...OMG! :wizard: for your husband's recovery.

Mark...welcome back! Great times!

Maria...welcome back!

:bday: Jen! party: :cake:

Cam...love your 5K photo!

For all you former band geeks, Kaley auditioned for the Mighty Sailor Band tonight and has secured her place among the other saxophones! Band camp starts in Aug ("and one time...at band camp..." :lmao: )

Lenna (DD4, the WT) is okay though she does not want to put her face in the water anymore. Given her personality, I'm sure this is not the last time she will cause my heart to stop :scared1:

I did 30 min last night at 11:53 pace. I played with some speed stuff, doing R2 at 10mpm, but couldn't keep it up very long. I'm calling it my fartlek for this week.

Maria - thanks for the info. Sadly, the Harpoon 5 mile race is closed now. I'll keep looking for something local. I am probably going to do the Bradford 5k in NH in July since it is close to Lake Sunapee. That was Chad's first race ever in 2001. I was hoping to find something in June as well.

Vic
- lots of :wizard:, although I am having a brain fart & don't know what "DF" is!

Judy - feeling better yet?

Cam - love the pic!

Mel - WOO HOO for DD! And :lmao: for "one time...at band camp." :rotfl2:

Lily - Cancun? I am SO jealous!

I know I missed alot of people. I am trying to keep up with everyone!

Where is our Sunny anyway?

Maria- I run with an Ipod and the Nike + deal. I really like it even though its not real accurate. I think it registered 14.3 miles for my half last weekend which is really depressing when you hear it say "you are finished" but still have a mile to go. I don't use the Nike + shoes though, can't stand 'em.

Andrew- I've registered for the Bix also. This will be my first try at it. I'm planning on doing some of the Bix at 6 practice runs, maybe we'll meet up at some point. My goal is to finish in an hour, I'm running 5k's at 27 minutes right now, so I need to pick up a little more speed somewhere. That day will be my 40th birthday, so I'm pretty excited.

Thanks everyone else for the welcomes!

Mark

Vic- I also don't know what DF is???

Yesterday I did 3.4 miles, speed work, today another 3.4, working on form.

I'm thinking of getting the book "The Complete Guide to Marathon Walking". Does anybody have this? Was it helpful?

The doc says I have a nice case of DF. No running for a month, ice the area 3 times daily, and she prescribed anti-inflammatories (Mobic). If it doesn't get better, shots may be in order. I feel it getting better already.

Let's make that "Plantar Fasciitis." Here I was trying to be all cool and everything. :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

Hello Jen

Well it appears I need a new publicist. Perhaps Paris Hilton's could rehabilitate my public persona.

I had hoped to let you know that from the boards you are so nice and so sweet, which was incredibly common among the good people we lived with in Western Wisconsin. You could be the ambassador representing how pleasant Wisconsin folks usually are.

Ah, the Wish meet at POP. Mel/Chimera can attest that I, although very comfortable and outgoing among long time friends, am pretty uncomfortable and shy in large groups of folks I don't yet know. Thus at large events I tend to latch on to someone I know and hope I can slowly expand that pool. I hope I had the decency to smile and be polite to you in January before I returned to conversation with the person I had already met. Heck I wasn't going to go at all until the very last minute, when I screwed up the courage. Even then I hovered around the exterior of the group, watching and hoping to see a familiar face. That is how I met Mel, we were partners in fear standing over to the side.

In the words of Will Smith in "Men in Black, "you're just pissin' everybody off this week."

This one if cannot possibly (wanna bet?) mess up. . .

Minnie

Congratulations on your graduation. Tremendous accomplishment, which will mean even more to you as you move forward with your life.

I will now put the computer down and walk away before I do any more damage.

Is it Saturday yet?

Craig

Yuck, talk about a stonker tonight. I just wasn't feeling that 4 mile run - tired the whole way through. Mind you, it is pretty warm here this evening. Maybe I should have waited till later to run. Anyhow, finished in 48:23 for a 12:05/mi pace (slow for me lately...)

On a ToT note, I extended our hotel stay by an extra night, but that meant we couldn't get a room at Coronado Springs anymore. Now we'll be at POFQ instead. It looked pretty neat from what I could see from staying at POR so I'm looking forward to it. I also bought tickets for MNSSHP on Oct 25 and booked a dinner reservation for Mama Melrose early in the evening for the ToT race. We already have Chef Mickey's booked for dinner before MNSSHP, so now to figure out where to go in between. I loved 50s Prime Time and the Rose and Crown on the last visit, so I definitely want to go there again!

Kelley - PD and prayers for your husband!!
Jen - Happy birthday!!

OK, time to go eat...

Christa, did your skirt come yet? They called me on Friday to ask about my order cause they were having computer problems. I got the skirt on Monday. Pretty fast I think! Still waiting on next size up, though. They run really small or either I'm in denial. :lmao:

Craig, thanks for the tips about my pace. My whole neighborhood is hills. I wonder if I went somewhere flat would my pace really increase? :confused3

Jen, Happy Birthday!

Kelley, prayers for your DH. That is just awful! I can't believe someone would take off like that. I hope he recovers fast.

Andrew, nope - you can't set the Nike+ up for interval training. This is the one thing I dislike, since I'm doing a run / walk program myself. I have been using a stopwatch necklace. You can set it up each time for a certain amount of time, distance, calories burned, etc.

Well, we're in countdown mode now and I've done nothing. We're off on the Wonder in nine days! :woohoo: The girls don't know we're going to the Poly afterwords, either! It will be interesting to see how much weight I gain back and if I stick with my program. (I'm planning to, but a little nervous about running on the boat since I get sea sick easy and I've never run on the treadmill, just walked.) I did get a pound under my goal weight for the cruise, though! :yay:

Training wise, I went out for a little bike ride in between the drizzels. It rains just enough to make it steamy but not enough to do anything else.:sad2: The wind was pretty bad though and there were times where I wasn't going forward very quickly and then for some reason it always seemed I was riding into the wind. I just figure nature is out to get me right now.

Jen - A belated Happy Birthday. I hope it was enjoyable.

Craig - I'm glad there is another perimeter hoverer, that is where Lynnda and I tend to hang out as well. We will have to keep an eye out for you at the next meet. Although the one very active kid tends to intimidate some people but the baby is offsetting that right now. I hope the visit with your mom is going well and if it isn't then one day has already passed and the end is even closer.

Martha - Craig offered to take us all to V&A during the marathon weekend. I guess those MIT professors make more than I thought. :lmao: I hope you are doing well with the MIL as well. The alligators just provide an incentive to go faster. Although it seems I have more problems with cats, seeing as how one bit me last year on a run.

Shan - We have usually lost weight on cruises. Don't be too afraid to indulge yourself with the wonderful food and realize that walking on all the shore excursions will get you plenty of excercise. Add to that walking up the stairs instead of using the elevator (DW hated when I did that all the time though) and we stayed even for our trips.

Leana - We have stayed at POFQ before and enjoyed it. I think we like it better than Coranado Springs.

Vic - Hope the foot gets better without the shots. We were calling out your name as well this past weekend but didn't get any answers. Glad your trip was a good one.

Lily - Have fun in Cancun. You are more dedicated than me if you are planning on beach running while you are there. I would probably tend to do more beach sitting. ;)

Mel - After seeing that movie, you are going to let her go to band camp. :rolleyes1 Glad Lenna is doing good after the inpromptu swimming lesson.

Kelley - So sorry to hear about DH. We will keep him in our prayers for a speedy recovery.

Andrew - Great job on getting out for the training. Good luck in getting ready for the September race.

Cam - Love the picture. Glad you had a great time.

Laurie - Glad you are able to get back to training. Hope the rest of the weeks training feels better.

Kevin - I tend to start the training plans a week or two early since I will invariably miss some of the long runs. If I am actually following it closer than I planned, I put just insert another moderate long run in one weekend to help catch back up.

Mark - Glad to see you here. Hope everything works out so you can make it to Disney for the races.

Christa - Great job on getting out on the bike. Glad to hear it wasn't the fun dreadmill.

Dave - Glad you had a good swog during lunch. I tend to want to nap during my lunch breaks. ;)

HM - Glad you were able to make it out for a run, even if it was a little too hot.

Stephanie - Hope you enjoyed your "rest" day.

Cecilia - Great job on the half marathon. I hope that you are able to figure out a training plan that works with your schedule right now.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Bill

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Not too much training-wise to report. I did my 30 min x-training SWOG yesterday. The water felt really good to my legs. Training day today with the princesses, DD6 princess: and DD9 princess: for their 5K on Sunday.

Kelley- Wanted to send out more PD :wizard: :wizard: for your husband's recovery. We're thinking of you.

Jen- Hope you had a great birthday!

Mark- Greetings! Good for you on your half marathons you completed last year. Great times! Keep checking in and letting us know how your training is going for WDW.

Christa- Good job on your 19 miler on the bike. Get those legs rested up for your 5K. I'm thinking you're easily going to go sub-8 mpm pace.

Kevin- Wow, 5 straight hours in class?!? You started up again already? Not much of a break after finals, is it? Good luck with everything you have going on. It's good to see you posting again.

Laurie- Good for you for getting on there and getting a run in. Sounds like your body needed a little break. Plus you had all that hockey going on. Sabres aren't looking too good right now.

Cam- That's a great family picture before your 5K. Looks like a beautiful day there. Hey, are there any 1/2 marathons in Delaware this summer? Might give me an excuse to come down and visit my parents.

Andrew- Great job getting your run in, and congratulations for starting your training for your first full. How exciting!

Lily- Where are you going next week for the beach running? Oh, I see Cancun. Sounds like fun, we need some pictures too!

Vic- What's DF? Wow, no running for a month. That's harsh. Hang in there. Oh, I see plantar fasciitis. Uuugh, you take care of yourself. I once saw in Runner's World to freeze a water bottle and roll it under your foot for an ice massage.

Mel- Congrats to DD making the band. I used to play saxophone too. Glad DD4 is OK from her swim. Nice job on your 30 min run.

Kristi- You forgot to post your training. ;) How's it going?

Stacey- Nice job on your 3.4 miler. :thumbsup2
Craig- Boy, you have described me very well. I too am very introverted and quiet in large groups where I don't know people very well, and I tend to stick to my small circle of very close friends. I don't know if I'd ever be able to develop this support group of runners and friends by going to our local running clubs.

Leana- Good for you for getting the run in, even if it was a stonker.

Shan- Have fun on your cruise!

Bill- Great job getting your bike ride in! I'm sure you would rather nap. You have so much going on with the new baby. I'm so impressed you're keeping your workouts going. WTG! :thumbsup2

Carrie- Hope your legs are doing OK. Red Wings are doing much better than the Sabres are right now. I was really hoping for a Wings/Sabres final, but looks like the Sabres aren't going to make it. I like rooting for the Red Wings too from my days in Michigan.

Have a good day everyone!

Christa- Good job on your 19 miler on the bike. Get those legs rested up for your 5K. I'm thinking you're easily going to go sub-8 mpm pace.
Dave, you may have more faith in me than I have...I always get real insecure b/4 a race and start to doubt my ability....thanks for the encouragement.

Craig - I am the total opp of shy! I am so out of control in a crowd. Ask anyone who met me at the WISH meets.....Hey we are your long time friends (even though you have never officially met us.) so no need to stress!;)

Shan - No Skirt yet...don't tell me they run small!:scared1: I ordered a small and really hope it will fit me. I hope it comes in b/4 Friday so I can wear it Sat on my run. Have fun on your cruise!

Vic - I understood DF! You are cool!

WTG on everyones training...we are really cruise'n!

Christa, ya I ordered a small and it fits a little too well if ya know what I mean. I'm gonna try the medium to be certain. It says on their site certain colors run smaller than the others. When I talked to her she said a small should be fine for me, but I dunno... I'm in a size 4 now. I do have a tummy, though so maybe that is the problem. I can't imagine how tiny the extra small must be!

Christa--Just think--it's only 3.1 miles--you can go all out cuz'it will be over in at the most, for you, 30 min. I had to really change my mindset going into the 5K--I'm good at long, slow-ish, and steady--the short, fast races were always harder. That is until I wrapped my mind around the "only 3.1 miles". Good luck this weekend--I'm still with Dave--sub-8's are in your future!

Craig--Count me in as another one of those hover'ers. Good thing we have members like Anne, who'll drag you in the circle kicking and screaming! Poor DH, he didn't know what he was getting into at the Minnie! Unfortunately, now that we've all fessed up, we'll probably be pounced upon by the not so shy members, and made to do something extremely embarressing in front of the group!

Dave--good luck with training with DDs. I can't wait to see pics of the 5K!

Lily--Cancun?? Life is rough, isn't it???

Mel--Congrats to your DD!:yay: I was a former band geek as well--but hey, it paid for part of my college education. And :rotfl2: on the band camp reference!:rotfl2:

Well, I guess I should be going. DD has gymnastics this am. Gonna try to get a tempo/speed workout in. And then I have to head to my parents to help them get ready for a rummage sale on Sat. Dad is retiring next year and time to downsize. They are planning to buy a condo a mile away from us!:scared1:

Kristi- You forgot to post your training. ;) How's it going?
:rolleyes1

You & Bill always remember & call me on it when I am bad! :rotfl:

In my defense, I am hugely sleep-deprived. I honestly could barely eat lunch when I got home yesterday. I was trying to watch the 3rd episode of Amazing Race Season 1 so that Chad could return the DVD. I was a space cadet, fighting to stay awake to finish the show & Chad said I was a "zombie." So, I napped afterward. Then off to Tae Kwon Do with Zack, etc, etc. I really need to take time off just to sleep. I always horde my time off for more trips, etc. I need a mini sleep-vacation!

Craig - Thanks for the comments.... I was just teasing you!!! You may be under a bit of stress with the MIL there. We will forgive you for any comments that are a little out there!!!!

Vic - Same story here, except mine is much better. Follow the stretching they give you. Are you getting orthotics?

Last night I got nothing done. I ran the girls to swim class, then off to a meeting with them. I got home at a little after 8, put them to bed and collapsed by the TV. By the way, there was nothing on last night!!!!

DH is getting his MRI as I type. He is really worried about it. Oh, he is back now, just walked in. Now we just wait for the results.

Have a great day all. I plan to run after work while DD is in gymnastics. I expect the track to be crowded since it is rainy and cold here.
