Wk of May 13--WISH Walking/Running Club

drive-by post to report my workout:
workout tonight -- 60 minutes treadmill; intervals 3 walk/1run at 4.2/5.2
Total miles 4.54 (pace 13:13); total calories burned 513

Not bad -- Monday night was 4.4 miles with a pace of 13:38
Sunday's 5k was pace of 13:56, according to the race website

Colleen- seconding Mel/Chimera. Nothing on that would make me take a second look unless you're having problems. We really only pay attention to just 4 numbers unless there's a problem and that's WBC, Hemeglobin, Hct, and Platelet count.

Off to WDW tomorrow afternoon for the FL 70.3 race. We're staying at VWL and the race starts and finishes from Fort Wilderness. There's live online athlete tracking at www.ironman.com. My bib number is 1312. Matt's(thndrmatt) is 2210.

Kelly- PD for your husband. I ride thousands of miles a year and that's like my worst nightmare. I do wear something called a RoadID w/ emergency contact information when riding and running alone.

MelC- glad WT is okay. We lifeguard types refer to that as a pull out:)

Hey everyone. Karen & I were in DC this past weekend for a mini vacation. We had a chance to take a nice 6 1/2 mile run on Sunday around the DC area. We got to go past most of the historical monuments as well as the mall.

We came across a “WISH’ green cab and I thought I would share the photo with everyone.

Later, John

John - Nice cab!! Is it available for the last couple miles of a marathon?

Shan, Christa, Leana and other skirt girls - Save yourselves the trouble with the skirts. This is what the female winner of wore at the marathon I ran: http://www.fredericknewspost.com/sections/special_sections/marathon/display.htm?StoryID=59840

Christa - I find it pretty amusing that you're worried about your upcoming 5K. Heck, even at your LR pace you'll break 25 minutes! With just a little wild abandon you will easily be in 23 minute land.

:rotfl: Glad it wasn't deadly farts. ;) :lmao:
Vic - You should be ashamed of yourself!! But, they must be bad if they make your feet hurt! As if your fellow Floridians didn't have enough toxicities with the wild fire smoke!!

Stephanie - I do a double take every time you say you're doing the Akron marathon. I grew up in that area, my folks still live about 20 minutes away and I even went the the University of Akron for a couple of miserable years - Go Zips!! (he said sarcastically). Add to that the fact that the freebie Brooks shoes for finishers are the shoes I wear... I looked at my training schedule for the Marine Corps Marathon and I am scheduled to do a 20 mile LR the week of Sep 29th anyway. Hmmm.

Only a few things holding me back.
1. DW and I are planning to go down to WDW for the RFTT the following weekend - lots of travel.
2. I'm pretty stupid and would probably have some trouble running at a sensible pace (and I know you're going to be laying down some impressive splits) considering the MCM is only a month after .
3. I know the area well enough to know that you have to climb out of "The Valley" in the last 6 miles! :scared1:

It doesn't look like they have a cap on registration for the full so I think it may be more of a last minute decision. We'll see.

Take care everyone.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Whew, I had a great run yesterday. It was a little cool and windy. I did 5.15 miles in 44:11 min 8:35 mpm pace on a crushed gravel loop trail around a neighborhood park. I wasn't trying to go fast at all, and it felt like a quick but comfortable pace. I barely looked at my Garmin the whole run - only to glance when it would beep for the mile splits. My splits were really consistent:
Mile 1: 8:47
Mile 2: 8:43
Mile 3: 8:27
Mile 4: 8:31
Mile 5: 8:33
It was really satisfying to have a good run. I had my MP3 player on, and relaxed and listened to the music.

When I got home from my run, DD6 princess: was filling up her water bottle and asked "is it a training day?" I said yup, and she goes "YAY! I love to run!" DD9 princess: was a little more reluctant to get out the door, but eventually came with us. We did about 1.5 miles at our run 2/walk 1 intervals, and they had their quickest pace 15:39 mpm. I think they're ready for their 5K on Sunday.

Oh, the trophies I ordered for the princesses, DD6 princess: and DD9 princess:, came yesterday. They look really cute. And I also scheduled an "enchanted phonecall" from Mickey Mouse for Saturday evening at 7pm to WISH the girls luck before their race. I had won a free call from one of the Disney Sweepstakes I enter, and I figure this is a good time to use it.

OK, I'm off to catch up with everyone now.

A quick post since I overslept today. SOmething about having a 3:30 feeding of the bottomless pit does not do good good things with a 5:00 wake up call. :rotfl:

Yesterday was a rest day and I almost rested. I wound up having to go to different stores looking for more items Lynnda was in need of. However, I did hit 3 stores around town in under an hour. Don't understand why it takes DW so long. ;)

Vic - Glad to explain whiy you were hearing voices. Although if it happened at any time other than Saturday, well I can't help you there. :lmao:

Martha - Yes we both will be there for TOT, provided I remember to sign us up at some point. :rolleyes1 Yep, I was bit by a cat. Short version, during a long run I heard a cat that seemed to be in great pain. Turns out its paw was stuck between the slats of a fence. I judged the turning radius of the cat and tried to undo the paw. I found out that cats not only can bend their body 90 degrees but can also stretch 2 times their length without any effort. After it bit me, I just yanked (it couldn't do anything else to me) and once free it took off. I finished the rabies shot series a year ago next week. Needless to say, I am not that fond of cats.

Craig - Another day down and even closer to the return flight. Since you are the expert in finance, I will help you a little with a little engineering. There is no device around that can be used to fling your mom from MA to TX. :rolleyes1 Unfortunately you will have to wait for the ticket date. However, if you were to design something like that, you could probably make millions and retire next year.

Lynne - Good luck in the half ironman. I hope it is better this year for you. Enjoy your stay at WL.

Mike - What's another 6 miles added to your LR. ;)

Dave - Glad to hear DD's are enjoying their training. Great job on your training run as well.

Mel - Glad your training run went well.

Carrie - Hope your orthotics feel better soon. Running with rocks in your shoe isn't the best feeling. ;)

Sorry to those I missed but I had better get to work soon, before the traffic gets too bad.

Bill

Good Morning TEAM:

Wow, lots of discussion about skirt sizes yesterday. I hope everyone's skirts fit them.

Kelley- Thinking of you and your family. How did your husband's surgery go? :wizard: :wizard:

Christa- DD9 has to make a Pig for school? :confused3 Uuummm, OK... too bad we didn't know about it 2 weeks ago. There were tons of Pigs in Cincinnati we could have sent you.

Colleen- I'll defer to the medical experts regarding the anemia. I hope it's nothing too serious. So I guess it's something more than having to take some iron supplements? Wow, just think of all the running you accomplished with borderline anemia though. If you get that hemoglobin up, I bet your running will be even easier.

We all miss Melissa. Where is that girl? :hippie: Oh, I forgot about her bike job. Maybe she's too busy trying on lots of new cool bike clothes.

Hi Carrie- Good for you for not giving up on the running. Give the orthotics a good try, break them in and let your muscles get used to them. Sounds like you have lots of help there, new orthotics, tissue massage, etc. Don't forget about the SWOGging. It can really keep your fitness up, while you get all healed up. Take care of yourself. Sabres won finally! Yahoo! Go Wings! Hey, can we go to Anaheim to watch a game and take a side trip to Disneyland?

Lily- Take care of yourself so you can get your training in. Sorry you're so busy recently.

Vic- Good to hear from you. Hope your PF is getting better.

Martha- I give you permission to butt in and drag me into your conversation anytime. I hope I can meet you in January. Thanks for the good wishes for the 5K this Sunday. Craig's mother sounds like a piece of work.

Jen- Hope you're doing well, and your back isn't bothering you too much. Good luck with the half this weekend.

Jackie- Good to hear from you too. Great job on your running this week.

Stephanie- Hope your stomach's feeling better, and you got some rest.

Hi Mel

Cam- Nice job getting 60 min in on the TM. I haven't run on a TM for a while now.

Lynne- Good luck on the FL 70.3 race! Have fun!

Matt- Same to you. Have a good time at the tri!

John- That cab photo is too funny.

Mike/Optimator- I can't believe the winner of the Frederick Marathon wore that bikini. That just doesn't look comfortable. At the Flying Pig, Steve and I saw a guy wearing a super small speedo crossing the finish line for the Full Marathon. Where do you pin your number!

Bill- I don't envy you on the 3:00am feedings. Uuugh, I don't want to go back there again. Hang in there. Nice pace on your store run!

Mike, I think I'll pass on running in a bikini - I don't want to scare everyone off the course. :scared1:

Dave, that is sooo cool about your daughters. I think my DD9 is gonna do the Girls on the Run program at her school next year. She has shown interest. I know they end in a 5K race, too. I can't picture my DD6 doing it, though! I'm very impressed with your girls! Can't wait to hear how it goes. :wizard:

Morning team. Not sure what's in store for my training today. I'm gonna try to go to a yoga/pilates class--but the instructor told me yesterday she might have to cancel. If no class, then on the TM again for an easy 3-4 miles. Then I get to shuttle the kids from the park/playgroup to tennis camp and back to babysit for a friend. At least the weather is beautiful!

Mike--Woohoo come join us and get some free shoes. That's the only way I was convinced to run this race--free Brooks and free tech. shirt. I figure all I have to do to get the shoes is finish--so I can crawl if need be. What I will do for free shoes! DH grew up in the Canton area, and his mom and step-dad still live there---so we have free babysitters. We are going to stay at the Crowne Plaza in Akron the ngiht before the race--come join in our madness!! We were going to try RFTT as well--but this will be DH's 1st marathon, and I told him that he might not yet be vertical come the weekend!

hmmm, running in a bikini???? At least you could pick out your pics easily in the lost and found!

dave--great pace yesterday!:yay: Looks like that sub-4 is in your future!
yay for your DDs!!!:cheer2:

Well, gotta go get kiddos dressed and find some clean wo clothes. Guess this is in my future as well!:laundy:

Colleen...what is your hematocrit? Do you know if they've tested iron (look for iron, ferritin, TIBC)? The last 4 things are different types of white blood cells. Nothing here is wildly out of range, but there's enough things that make the overall picture a little funky. I wouldn't be too worried yet. There's a whole list of things that can throw off blood counts. Have you taken any steroids recently? Autoimmune issues like thyroid, rheumatoid arthritis, etc can make blood counts weird too (anything like that run in the family?). Don't worry about the scary stuff until you have more info.

Thanks Mel and Lynne, I had hoped you two would chime in!

The two things I take are a multivitamin with iron and glucosamine.

No thryroid or rheumatoid arthritis in family.

My hemotocrit is 36.3 ---normal range is 36.0-46.0

I don't see if they tested for iron, ferritin or TIBC. Is that part of a normal screening?

Leana - I'm guessing that Coronado is booked for ToT? I was hoping to stay there if we ever get around to registering for this, but POFQ and POR are my second and third choices.

Jackie - I originally had Coronado booked under a AAA rate for check out on Sunday Oct 28. I wanted to add on an extra night for check out on Monday Oct 29 (major difference in airfare, making the cost of the extra night worth it) but I couldn't get the Sunday night on the AAA rate. But apparently no issues with CB, POR or POFQ. My hotel could potentially change again if I can get a good AP rate somewhere.

Mike - OMG, :rotfl2: I'll keep it in mind, haha!

Dave - Running in a speedo? Now that sounds uncomfortable, and something I'm not sure I'd want to see!

Bad me, I bailed on a weight workout last night in favour of Wing Wednesday at a local restaurant, followed by the finale of America's Next Top Model and the American Idol results show. It is sad but true, I get easily hooked into reality TV. Don't watch Survivor anymore though... Going for another 4 miler tonight, so here's hoping it is better than Tuesday's run!

For all those folks going Goofy in January:

My cousin ran the Goofy this year and she offered me this advice:
"Do yourself a favor and start practicing back-to-back long runs on the weekends this fall - shorter sat, longer sun. My feet felt like there was no padding & no shoes by the last 13 miles!"

Are you guys doing anything different from a regular full marathon training program to get ready for the Goofy?

DAve - We've got to head to CA tonight, as this will be their last game on teh pond this season. ;) Too cool about teh trophies adn Mickey call!!!! Your girls are truely blessed! BTW, meeting you on teh course, you didn't seem so shy. ;)

Craig & Martha - Time with mom/MIL sounds like good marathon trianing. One minute at a time. ;)

Stephanie - Hope that tummy' sfeeling better! Tehjre's some nasty stuff going around on this side of teh lake.

Bill - Thought you were talking about my appetiite. ;) Sorry that Timmy is still messing with your sleep. Good thing he's so darn cute! :goodvibes

Sorry, I'm missing so many these days! Hope next week will be better!

Random thoughts:

The PT who did my orthotics checked teh website to see my time. Cool that she was interested, but I'm sure that looked like I was crawling compared to her. (No, it shouldn't botther me, but my ego gets in the way sometinmes)

I'm really going to miss PT where I am, as there's a hs coach that brings up really cool topics with teh other trainier. Sports, sports injuries... I'll miss butting in on their conversations. :rolleyes1 Guess i'm not one of those introverts. ;)

WHen I told teh DO that I had hip pain near the end of trainign for the last two marathons, he said, "When you say marathon do you mean 5K, 10K (Yup, I was ready to hit him) or d oyou mean th efull 26.2?" Ok, forgiven. I got high-fived when I said I meant 26.2.

I'm, gonna' do teh elyptical tomnight and break in teh roks in my shoes. I oculd tell just walking to PT this am, tha tmy right fott now moves the way it's supposed to. Guess she put the rocks in teh right place.

OK, must work. :(

Laurie Thanks for the welcoming post on my journal.

I'm planning on counting ballroom dancing as my cross training today -- not much chance of much else happening.:dance3: Check out my journal if you have time for the "rest of the story".

I understand the ego thing! And about the marathon thing your DO asked...you may already know this, but I am surprised at how many people call 10Ks marathons....like the big 10k in Charleston...so many people told me they were training for a marathon...when they were training for that 10k..:confused3 I had to correct them...I am evil, but THEY ARE NOT TRAINING FOR A MARATHON! THEY ARE TRAINING FOR A 10K!

Dave - Yea, About the pig...I did not know until this weekend! I forgot to take pics...may have to sneak by school to get some. It turned out cool!:cheer2: BTW...WTG on your run! GREAT TIME!:woohoo:

John - Love the car!:woohoo:

Martha and Craig - It sounds like your MIL is an expert at pushing buttons to get people angry...not finance. My MIL tries the same thing.:headache:

Mike (Optimator) - Running in a bikini?!?!:confused3 Talk about chub rub!:rotfl: I saw a girl do a sprint tri in a bikini kinda like that.....not a tri suit...a bikini?!?!:confused3 WHATEVER! And thank you for your confidence in me...Like I told Dave, I just really start doubting myself b/4 a race.:confused3

My Training - Today I thought I would see how I could do on a hilly 5k course. So I mapped 3.1 miles out my neighborhood and ran like the wind bullseye! Here is the break down and some random thoughts for your entertainment. (I did run with Ipod and JRT!)
1st mile - 7:14 MPM! Yes I went out too fast and suffered the rest of the run. The 1st mile is mostly uphill. Jrt was with me and was in a sniffing/peeing mood! The Rocky theme did help...
2nd mile - I am really feeling like I am going to throw up for some reason. So I slow down a pace to almost a crawl..or so it seems....8:30 MPM over a full minute slower!:scared1:
3rd mile &.1 - 8:09 MPM - THats more like it! But I am now dragging JRT b/c She has to pee AGAIN! WE ARE NOT STOPPING!
TOTAL TIME: 24:17
I went out too fast so I think I will try to go a little slower at 1st then try to speed up at the end. Maybe the crowds will help...and the free food at the end...

OK, that bikini is just out of control (hee hee Christa). Why would someone do that??? I am not sure what would be worse, running in a bikini or speedo OR running the Goofy in that Mr. Incredible suit?????

Christa - Oh the free food at the end is a bonus. My 1/2 marathon (YES, marathon not 10K), has a tailgate party at the end. I am assuming Brats and Beer since we are in Wisconsin and ending at Lambeau Field... HOME OF THE GREEN BAY PACKERS. Oh and Brett Favre is supposed to be there even if he is throwing a childish fit at the moment!

Carrie - My orthotics are really helping, at the moment. I do tape my arches tho because the left one rubs and I am scared of blisters for my race this weekend.

Martha and Craig - I have MIL issues also... oh wait, I have MOM issues as well. I know how it goes!!!

Kelley - Prayers continue for DH and you. Hope he is recovering!
Lynne - I am so impressed you're doing the FL 70.3! I could handle the bike and the run, but the swim would kill me (literally, probably!)
Dave - You're giving me Garmin envy! Must be nice to be able to track your splits/distance so easily.
Christa - Great time for your 5K workout! You'll smoke at the race. Hope the food at the end is good. My motivation to get to the finish is an ice cold Pepsi!

Today I ran for 50 minutes and managed to cover 5.1 miles, which I think is about a 9:48 pace. I thought about you all as I ran and how cool it is to have a group that is so diverse but so cohesive. Thanks for all the support!

Happy training, all! :yay:

Kelly, I'm wondering how your DH is doing also!

Yesterday I did 2 miles, then got in 5.2 miles today. It was my first "long" one done outside (most of the long walks I did for the Minnie was on the TM) and it felt great!

Lynne- I hope it goes well for you at the Ironman! I look forward to reading your report!

Speaking about worrying about dh's, Has anyone heard from Tiff??
