Wk of May 13--WISH Walking/Running Club

Christa, ya I ordered a small and it fits a little too well if ya know what I mean. I'm gonna try the medium to be certain. It says on their site certain colors run smaller than the others. When I talked to her she said a small should be fine for me, but I dunno... I'm in a size 4 now. I do have a tummy, though so maybe that is the problem. I can't imagine how tiny the extra small must be!

Uh oh, now I'm worried about the skirts I ordered for my mom. She's about the same size as my friend Susan, who mentioned that in the colours she wears a small, but in the all black the medium is better. So not sure if you ordered the all black or not...? Guess we can always exchange the small if need be.

Quick Post so I feel accountable -- visit my new journal thread runwdw2008 if you want the full story.

Last run was almost 3 miles at a pace that would have just kept me ahead of the sweepers. :woohoo:

I ordered the Blue Hawaii GymGirl. It said that color ran small on the website. Does this mean I'll need a large in the all black, but I'm wearing a size 4 jean?!? Crap, that will really wreck my diet mentality. I have to work hard or I gain weight by just looking at food. :scared1:

Today is a rest day for me! :cool1: Yesterday evening I ended up taking DD to the Y so she could do her run on the treadmill so I added some elliptical and weights for myself. Surprising how good it felt even after my run earilier in the day.

Mark - Thanks for the feedback on the Nike+. I think if I'm going to get something more sophisticated it'll be based on GPS.
Vic - You're still :cool2: around here. DF, PF, whatever
Craig - If I ever get to a WISH meet I'll meet you hanging around the edges
Leana - We love POFQ! Enjoy it!
Shan - Serious Disney envy for your trip.
Bill - I believe it is possible for a run/ride to be completely uphill and into the wind! Seems to happen to me all the time!
Kristi - Naps are under-rated. Try it! Think of it as a 20 minute energizing workout!

Got to go get DD out the door for her run. She's got to show DH that she's committed to this so he'll sign us up for the ToT 13K! (If she screws up DS and I will kill her for letting a Disney trip get away from us!)

Happy training/resting!

Wow, I am so far behind on this thread. You go out of town for a couple days and *poof*, we're up to 9 pages :lmao:

On monday, I did a 45 minute walk at about a 16:15 pace. I was just trying to be relaxed and stretch out after some travelling.

Tuesday, rest day. Yippie! Well, the dog got his daily 1 mile walk. But I go slow, so that only counts a little :)

Wednesday (today :) ) I got up early and snuck 3 miles in in exactly 45 minutes. Yeah for a 15:00 pace, and I didn't even feel like I was pushing myself to the edge. I was comfortable. I also did about .3 of a cool down.

I can't back out of the 1/2 in January now. I registered DH and I last week and we bought the airplane tickets last night. I'm a little nervous because we're taking the red eye from Seattle to Orlando and will get in about 7:30 am on Friday morning. On the one hand, I think it will help us get used to the time change a little faster, and make it easier to go to bed early that night. One the other, I've read it's the night of sleep 2 nights before the race that can make or break you. Oh well, got to balence the needs of work w/ the needs of fun. I'm sure we'll be ok. :) Now I have to decide between POFQ and Coronado. Life is rough :rotfl:

No training at all to report, which is awful, just awful. I've trained once since the Minnie. Ugh. But OK, I'm almost done coughing and sneezing and feeling miserable, so I think I will be good to go tomorrow.

Kelley - OMG, MAJOR :wizard: for your DH's recovery! Was he on a bicycle or motorcycle? Not that it matters, because, geez, it's scary either way.

Mel - Scary pool moment! :scared1: Glad all is well. She's such a doll!

Vic - Gee, for a moment there I thought you had a "Darling Fiance"...

Cam - Adorable picture! :goodvibes

I hope I am OK...I wear a size 2 in jeans/pants...sometimes a 14/16 in childrens.....don't know how that crosses over.:confused3 My hips are big though...no tummy. Extra tummy skin from DDs though...ugg:sad1: ANywho, they emailed me today and said it had shipped.
THey did say the black Marathon girl ran small...but normally when they say that, Med is still too big. We will see.:wizard: :wizard: that it fits.

Christa, you're a full size smaller than me and the small fit me, although if I gained a couple pounds it wouldn't. :lmao: Sounds like the small will be the right size for you!

Kelly - OMG!!!! How's your dh?? That's awful!!

Jen - Happy belated b-day!!!

Dave - OMG. QUite teh game last night. Homer's hit almost made me illl. I cannot believe he came baaack and got an assist!!!

Work has me swamped. Leg hurts. Got orthotics today. May start some pool running and diff PT operson Friday.

Hope everyone's doing well!

Ya! I just got an email, too that my other skirt was shipped. :yay:

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Kelly - How is your DH doing. You guys are in my prayers.:wizard: :grouphug: :wizard:

I totally blew off my 8 mile run today. Hey I am in taper mode. :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao: Making a pig with DD9 and 6.5 for a school project. It is a test grade for DD9.....I will take a pic of it.....not that it is a big deal or anything. But a pig?!?!:confused3 For a grade??? :confused3 RANDOM!

Kelley, so sorry to hear about your DH, our prayers are with your family.

Christa, size 2 ?!?! No wonder you are the wind!

Jen, party: , Happy Belated Birthday!

Stephanie, more speedwork? You speed demon, you go girl!]

OK, this is really off topic, but I need some advice from you medical types. I had some blood work done last week. The nurse calls me a few days later with my results and tells me that I need to call my primary care provider to develop an "action plan" to combat my ANEMIA!

I knew I was lacking energy the last few years, but I thought it was just the "turning 40" thing and everyone has less energy. She got me a little scared and I do have an appointment with my PCP on Friday, but I would like to be knowledgeable before I go in there. I have done some research, yes, my numbers are out of the normal range, but develop an action plan?? I do eat a lot of fruits and leafy greens, but I don't like eating red meat (I will have a steak in a restaurant once in a while, but I don't cook it at home, I eat a lot of fish and chicken.) I have been taking a multi with iron, because I was borderline anemic when I was pregnant (Kids are 8 and 10). What else can I do??:confused3

Here are my numbers that are out of range:

Hemoglobin 11.4 --- Normal Range is 12.0-15.0
White Blood Cell 3.6 --- Normal Range is 4.0-10.5
Red Blood Cell 3.78 --- Normal Range is 3.87-5.11
Granulocyte % 42 --- Normal Range is 43-77
Absolute Gran 1.5 --- Normal Range is 1.7-7.7
Lymph % 47 --- Normal Range is 12-46
Absolute Eos 0.1 --- Normal Range is 0.2-0.7

Could someone tell me what the last 4 things are? Is there a need to be concerned?

TIA, Colleen

I've been missing Melissa too!!! I hope she doesn't love her new job more than us. :(

OK, got my orthotics. Why did nobody tell me how comfy they are??? Yeah, comfy like havign boulders in your shoe. Yes, I recall blisters and pain stories, but I had no idea teh padding would feel so random.

Met with DO for "manipulation." Yup, that's what it was. That plus heel lift and more x-rays. My severa; hour ordeal to go to the special x-ray place last tiem aws not enough. He wanted standing ones, not lying dwn ones.

DO said that his mentor says that there's no reason not to run. Can I go to his mentior? My guy disagrees. If I have to run, it can be dealt with, but it'd be better not to. I know me, no running, no moer getting my booty off teh couch. I'm gonna' give it a small break (trunnign 4-ish mile bridge run next Saturday) and take it easy, but I'm not giving up. That'sd be like following my MIL's advice. :scared1:

I have been thinking about the fact that I wore my running shoes with insert in shorter leg all teh time before the Minnie, but went back to regular shoes after. He agreess that may be why I'm havign problems now. The lift should fix that. So, we'll see. I'll likely start getting soft tissue massage at PT starting Friday, too. SOunds nice, but it hurts like mad. Don't be jeaous.

OK, must pay bills and get to work adn get to bed early. Yeah, not looking real feasible.

Nothing for me to report. Been the usual busy, and no training again. Sigh.

Craig, shy? Awww shucks. You know I've said the same thing about me. Sigh.

I've updated the calendar. Please add your events and I'll get to them. Remember though, nothing probably next week. I'll be away...

Good evening!

We actually received a little rain today. Simply amazing!

Just finished rolling my little frozen water bottle on the floor. That was nifty. My heel does feel better though.

Leana – Sorry your run was a stonker.

Bill – I knew I heard someone calling my name. I just thought the voices had returned. :confused3

Dave – Hope you and your DDs have/had a great training day.

Christa - Pics of the pig, please. :)

Jen – No orthotics yet. I hope I don’t have to get them. Good thoughts enroute for your DH.

Runwdw2008 – Keep at it. You’ll do well.

HMHunters - ;)

Bekkiz – Good job with the training.

Vic - Gee, for a moment there I thought you had a "Darling Fiance"...
:rotfl: Glad it wasn't deadly farts. ;) :lmao:

Lily - Have fun on your trip.

Bill: bit by a cat? While running? :scared1: not fun; the alligators do tend to add some adrenaline to the mix! You seemed to mix quite well at the WISH meet at Minnie. I really enjoyed meeting you, your wife and two adorable sons! I especially liked the game of cat and mouse we played during the run itself! Are you going to the ToT?

Dave: I'll wish you and your DDs great fun and luck at this weekend's 5K. No matter how they do, they should be really proud of their effort! Please take pictures to share. I'd love to see them! I'm beginning to think we need a designation on name tags: introverts and extroverts. All the introverts can cluster together on the fringe and socialize--oh wait: then you won't be shy and quiet! You'll be extroverts with the introvert crowd! Um, I'm getting dizzy here......

Christa: I'll happily smooze with you at gatherings. I tend to do very well at these things. I just butt into conversations and chat away, cursory apologies for interrupting but I just keep talking.

Jen: thanks for understanding the MIL stuff. DH is ready to strangle her. But we've found the more her husband talks, the less MIL talks and things are good (he really is a very nice man).

Kelley: how is DH doing? How did the surgery go? Sending :wizard: for you!

Carrie: I do hope the inserts help. Mine made a big difference.

So far, DH has wanted to kill MIL 3 times. Not bad for a 24 hour period. Tonight was the best when she informed us that she is better in finance than DH! Um, let's review. DH has a Ph.D in Finance and will be teaching at MIT and rubbing elbows with the gods of his field. MIL does not have a college degree. Uh huh, riiiiiiight. MIL is better in finance than DH. Riiiiiiiight. DH's students will be laughing their butts off when they hear this next fall!!! :lmao:

Sigh. Tomorrow all of my family comes into town. Golly, does it get any better than this?

I feel like it's been AGES, so forgive me if I miss someone (or a lot of someones!)

Mel - Glad Lenna is okay. Know that was a scary moment! As the mom of a confirmed band geek, congrats to Kaley on her audition.

Jen (Patsfaninpa) - Welcome!

Jen - Happy belated birthday!

Kelley - Hope DH is okay. How'd the surgery go?

Cecilia (Cinderella) - Congratulations on your PR.

Mark - Welcome back. Sounds like you're doing great!

Cam - Love the picture.

Lily
- Cancun? I'm so envious!

Vic - Welcome to the PF club! It's a very exclusive club, you know - membership is only open to a very limited number of people.

Leana - I'm guessing that Coronado is booked for ToT? I was hoping to stay there if we ever get around to registering for this, but POFQ and POR are my second and third choices.

HMH - We're staying at POFQ for marathon weekend. Stayed at POR before, but this will be our first stay at POFQ.

Bekki - My vote is POFQ (see above!). And Jeff Galloway said it's okay if you don't sleep the night before, or even for two nights before! I paid close attention when he said that, cause I'm terrified that I won't be able to sleep at all.

Craig- Boy, you have described me very well. I too am very introverted and quiet in large groups where I don't know people very well, and I tend to stick to my small circle of very close friends. I don't know if I'd ever be able to develop this support group of runners and friends by going to our local running clubs.

Apparently there are a lot of us! When I went to my first (and only) WISH meet at last year's Minnie, I almost didn't go outside at EOS after I got there. DH had to push me out the door. Again, it was Anne who pulled me in and made feel so welcome.

Judy - No wonder my morning runs have been so tough. I'd forgotten you were sick! Glad you're feeling better.

Christa
- Can't wait to see the pig!

Carrie - Sorry you're having such a rough time. Hang in there!

Craig & Martha
- Congrats to Lesley on graduation. Only 4 more days till MIL leaves! Martha, remove any sharp objects or weapons - we'd hate for Craig to have to use the bail fund. I understand, though - I spent 10 days in London with my in-laws, and seriously considered not telling them when they stepped out in front of a double-decker bus.

Did 3.5 miles outside Monday afternoon in 40:53. 2R/1W intervals, still managed avg 11:37. This morning did 3.0 miles on the TM in 35:30, avg 11:50. Worked in a few speed intervals. Have a 4 mile LR with the group scheduled Saturday morning. Guess I'll try one more run tomorrow evening - maybe take the dog for a long walk instead. Have done weights with the arms Sunday & Tuesday too, so it's been a really good week training wise!

Jackie

Evening all! My speed/tempo WO was pretty good. Did 3 miles increasing the speed from 6-8 and then back down.

Carrie--hope the insert works for you. Just hearing the term "manipulation" makes me cringe!!!

Cecilia--wish I had some advice for you...My bloodwork showed anemia once when giving blood and they referred me to my PCP--we never did anything about it. He said the anemia is normal in premenopausal women. Hope someone else can offer some help!

Martha--:lmao: on your MIL knowing more about finance--so she turned down the MIT job so DH could have it, right??:rotfl2: Good luck on the rest of the weekend!

WEll, off to bed with me--my tummy has been a little "off" this evening, so gonna veg and go to bed early!

Good run tonight! Week 2 of training for CDC...30 minutes tonight at an 11:27 pace! :cool1:

Gosh, Craig...and I thought you were just excited to meet me at Pop ;)

Definitely add me to the introvert section. If anyone's taken that Myers-Briggs personality test, I'm an ISFJ.

Colleen...what is your hematocrit? Do you know if they've tested iron (look for iron, ferritin, TIBC)? The last 4 things are different types of white blood cells. Nothing here is wildly out of range, but there's enough things that make the overall picture a little funky. I wouldn't be too worried yet. There's a whole list of things that can throw off blood counts. Have you taken any steroids recently? Autoimmune issues like thyroid, rheumatoid arthritis, etc can make blood counts weird too (anything like that run in the family?). Don't worry about the scary stuff until you have more info.
