Wk of Mar 5--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

keenercam

It is good to put a face with a name :) Yes, that is me on South Beach a couple of weeks ago. Thank you for the compliment :)

Just checking in--I did not do my run today :( But I did take the boys to MGM this morning. I am telling you, pushing that double stroller through people traffic is a work out!

Tomorrow, 3 miles on the treadmill--no excuses!!!

Christy

Hi Everyone,

Well, I have good news and bad news......the good news is I made lifetime at Weight Watchers tonight (although - now, I have to maintain).....not positive how it works, I have to read the materials that they gave to me.

The bad news is.......I didn't do my run tonight, however, I did my workout on my bosu ball :teeth: . It was getting late so I didn't want to push it too much with the TM miles - I have to get up in the morning and I am not a morning person as it is.

Well, I'm at WW's goal of 127.20, actually that happened a couple of weeks ago. Tonight's weigh in I was at 126 - my personal goal is 115 or 110. For those of you that are shocked at such a small number.....keep in mind, I'm short :teeth: I'm only a little bit over 5 feet tall. Any weight that I gain shows up almost instantly.

Tomorrow, I hope to get in some running and maybe some Winsor Pilates. I love working out but I'm afraid.....didn't get much of it done this week. Eh, there's always next week.

Have a good night everyone! Have a great Friday :cloud9: ,

Jodi

Had my knee injections Tues - very painful, large needles! :earseek: And I have 2 more in each knee to go, so it's back to the Dr. for me the next 2 Tuesdays! I hope they work as well for me as they did for Judy's horse! The bad news - Dr said I should not expect to see any real results for another 4-6 weeks! What ever happened to instant gratification?!

Now for the good news. I think, at least I hope that I am finally getting over the nasty relapsing cold that has really slowed down my training for the past month. Every time I started to feel better and try to get back on track with training I'd end up sick again, and my breathing has been awful due to chest congestion. I have managed to work out for 4 of the past 5 days now and I'm not relapsing! I even mamaged to pick up the pace a bit today! I feel like I have lost so much ground but I am feeling like I may be able to regain that lost ground a lot faster than I gained it the first time.

MickeySP and Christa, good luck on your races this weekend! :cheer2:  pixiedust:

Hi my name is Maggie and I haven't exercised in 5 days.

However, last Friday I did my Lr/w at a 4/2 and ran 3.2 miles at a 12 min/pace. It felt pretty good. I was running on the track.

I then flew to Philly for the weekend to visit my brother/nephew and survived the plane ride with a 2 an 4 year old. The boys were great travelers as always and we had a great weekend.

So, I know I can go the distance for my first 5K on 3/19, but I actually haven't ran outside yet. So I will be doing that this Monday because that is the only day I could get a babysitter.

Due to the knee pain (behind my knee) and some hip pain, last week I only xtrained all week then ran on friday. This week, I will do the same.

I really haven't cought up on the posts - I am way behind. So let me just say keep up the great work! I am proud to be part of this team. I am sure I would have given up if it wasn't for all of you.

Have a great day!
Maggie

Hi Maggie,
:wave2:
Did I already tell you that I had decided to do the Shamrock Shuffle and then found out it was full? I probably did, but I can't remember. Working nights does that to you. Well, after today- aka last night- I only have to work tonight and I will be off of nights for 4-5 months. :yay: However, it is much easier to get up at 3pm to exercise before work than it is to get up at 3am to exercise before work. Also you spend much less money, when none of the stores are open when you want to go shopping.

I will say that I have enjoyed reading this boards LATE at night, while at work....hearing what everyone is doing during the daytime. I have been dreaming about running outside....rather than on the treadmill at 2AM :cheer2:

O-U-C-H!!!

Instant gratification in healthcare..... :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2: I laughed really hard when I read that.

Gotta love living in the country that demands a pill for everything- if only it were really that simple.

Good Morning Everyone! :surfweb:

Hey, I had a great workout yesterday. I had to pick DD8 princess: up from school again (DW had to work late), and I was feeling really beat and tired. DD8 princess: did homework and watched a little TV as I got things organized for dinner. Around 4:30p, I said to DD8 "how would you like to go to the track with Dad?" She said OK! It was gray and cloudy but warm out. I went to the track and ran 2 miles in ~13:30mpm pace. It felt great. I actually ran (although it wasn't that much faster than my walks) for 2 miles straight! DD8 princess: entertained herself in the sand pits making a sand castle and pushing her dump trucks down the long jump runway.

Cingoutloud - have fun with your new IPOD!

MouseDogMom - good for you for getting out there and wogging! You have a lot going on, and great job allowing yourself to take some time just for you.

MickeySP - have fun with your Run to Remember this weekend. Good luck! It's really fun hearing about everyone's races they have. It really makes me want to get out there and run one.

Lily - here's some PD :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: to help get rid of your winter blahs! I'll keep my eyes out for cheap airfares from Cleveland to MCO for the Minnie for you. I hope it works out for you to go. Maybe you'll win the Minnie Marathon sweepstakes and get a free trip!

Hi Kimickey :wave2: I agree with Cam, great picture!

Oooh Christy I would certainly take the cross training of pushing kids through WDW! Sounds like fun.

Hi Jodi :wave2: Congratulations on making your weight watchers goal. Don't worry about missing your yesterday. You have been doing great with your training, and I'm sure a day off will be good for your legs.

perfectmatch3000 - here's some PD :wizard: :wizard: to help you recover from those knee injections. I hope they work for you, and glad to hear you're getting over your cold too.

Yay Celeste - glad your night work is about done. :woohoo:

Christa - here's another good luck on your tri this weekend. I can't wait to hear about it. Goooooo, Christa! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: Just picture those cheerleaders are KP. I will say my DD8 princess: really wanted me to finish my track workout yesterday so she could get home in time for Kim Possible.

Have a great Friday everyone!

Hey I wanted to throw this idea I had during my run out to everyone. What if during the marathon weekend (that I haven't yet signed up for) we had some sort of gathering to get our kids together? It occurs to me reading the boards, that lots of us have children around the same ages. As everyone may remember my princesses are 5 and 8 princess: princess:. It sounds like you organized a couple of events last year - was it a dinner before the race and then a gathering at Trails End after the rest? Maybe we could add an event specifically for the kids to let them run around, or maybe we could expand it to a gathering specifically to thank our families for all the support they've given us and for allowing us to devote all of the time we do for training. I don't have specific thoughts right now, but that is just my general idea.

OK.. not really.... a woman should never make her best friend a battery operated device......

:lmao:

If anyone's interested, this month's Runner's World was written just for us. It's their annual weight loss issue and has an article or two on relays. Think they're lurking on our thread? :teeth:

Dave...sounds like a great idea! You reminded me...I have the info from Disney Leisure Sales on room block and group dining. PM me and I'll email the info for anyone who'd like to take a look.

It's a B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L day here in Atlanta and I soooo have spring fever.

OK - So I went to the library website last night and reserved two Harry Potter books, going to get that IPod tonight - download the books and wog my little (ok - it's not so little yet) bootie off this weekend. I have the day off on Monday and we plan to go buy some new laminate floors tomorrow, and my neice has a birthday party on Sunday.... but I SWEAR - I am getting in at least 8 miles this weekend!

Jodi - Congrats on the weigh in - I don't too new here to know you - but I swear I got a tingle and a rush hearing you say that!! That is such a huge achievement and a great BIG deal for you! You have to reward yourself with something! I say it is time for a new workout outfit or some new shoes!

Sap - I'm so envious that you can just pick up and go to MGM for a day! Your boys are lovely and it's got to be so surreal to just jump up and go. It's like how I wonder - If I lived next to the beach could I ever get any work done in a corporate office?

Skywalker - That sounds like a great idea. Kids are so flexible and that would give them a connection to the event.... OK - No - I don't have any - but still think that would be great!

Allright team - I'm moving one to actually get some work done this morning.

Love and Kisses and good vibes everywhere!
Dawn

Hey - I have a question for anyone that wants to give advice.

I've been training at our park which is a mile track through the woods up a pretty steep hill and then various degrees of difficulty across the whole thing. It's a fairly good workout for me and I've noticed its a good workout for the 'regular' runners too.

However - There is a school track immediatlely across the street from the park.

Should I be training there some days? I hit the park first because I was concerned I wouldn't get as good of a workout if I just used a level course.... and wouldn't prepare me for the 1/2 marathon.

Remember - I can only wog an average 18 minute mile and am 220lbs & 5'4" doing 4.5 miles at a time.

so..... should I be doing the track some days and the park on others. Maybe the track two days to help build my endurance and the park the other two for the harder exercising.

Please just give me your two cents......

Jodi -- Congratulations! Awesome job, kiddo! (Oh, and if you want to learn how to maintain, feel free to PM me -- I've been within the same 4 pounds for about 6 months!!! OUCH! Of course, if I were about 35 pounds lighter, that would be a GOOD thing!)

Dave -- I LOVE your idea of a family get-together! Alas, DD will be away at college by then or home staying with DSthen13 who won't be able to miss another week of school after having missed the week in September for the DL Half.

Cingoutloud -- I am suffering serious spring fever today! It is 63 degrees already and sunny! I am DYING to be outside for a wog!

Nancy -- I hadn't read your post before I read your PM -- I am so glad you started your injections and I really hope you see wonderful results and quickly! Sending :goodvibes: and pixiedust:

Oh, and I didnt' work out last night. Unless you count the 3 "walks" I made up to the chinese buffet.

Christa - You are going to do great!!!! Can't wait for your race report.

MickeySP - Have a great run this weekend. Please let us know how it went!

Sunny - Is this your run to remember weekend too? If so.......You will do wonderful and I want an update asap!

Dave - great pace!!

I did not listen to my booty! I ran yesterday (only around 5 1/2) miles and did really slow hill work. I did listen to my booty by keeping the pace slower than usual and stretching very thoroughly at home. It doesn't hurt too bad today. In fact, less than a couple of days ago. I'm not running today, but if it is pretty, I'm getting outside!

Have a gret weekend everyone

ARGH!! I am so frustrated! I ran last night on the treadmill, feeling great, knee is fine. About 2.5 miles into the run, I felt twinges in my knee, but not nearly as bad as it was during my 5 miles on Saturday. I kept going, but my knee started hurting a little bit more, I got to 2.8 miles and decided to stop running, I didn't really want to mess my knee up especially a little less than 2 months before a 1/2 marathon. I stop the treadmill, my knee feels fine; I do my stretches, my knee feels fine; I iced my knee as a precaution, and what do you know, my knee feels fine!! So I don't know if my knee was really hurting during the run or if it was all in my head. I going to attempt to run 6 miles on Saturday, I guess we'll see what happens. Weather permitting, I'm going to run outside so I'll have other things to think about then just my knee. Whenever I run on treadmill, I always feel more aches and pains, I think it's because I have nothing else to distract me, so I think about every little ache for 45 minutes. If my knee still hurts tomorrow, I guess it's more rest and cross training for me! Yippee! ;)

Cam-- :woohoo: :woohoo: on nearly making your goal!! That is wonderful!! How has your breathing been lately?

Jodi--Congrats on making your weight goal, that is great. I know what you mean about being short, I'm 5'1--every little pound shows!! By the way, I weigh 110 and I don't look too skinny, so you should be fine.

Melissa--How is the booty?

Dana--Thanks for the strengthening exercise. I don't have shin splints right now, but I'm still going to do that, just because I never want shin splints again!!

Dawn--(I'm glad you just posted so I could use your real name :) ) Good for you for taking charge!! Stephen (my husband) and I train at the same time and usually the same place, but NEVER together, that would be VERY bad for our marriage!! I really enjoy training by myself, like Cam said, that way I know I'm doing it for me and also I don't discouraged because I set the pace of the run and I don't have to keep up with anybody. Plus it's a great to get away from everything and collect your thoughts. I really look forward to my runs.

MDM-- :grouphug: :grouphug:

Dave--Good idea! And you can do something as simple as meeting at resort playground or even doing one of the play areas at the parks, for an hour or two, turn the kids loose on the jungle gyms and the adults can sit and talk.

I better get to work, it's finally FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!! :woohoo: I'm anxious to get home and take Hines out to play in our NEWLY FENCED YARD!!! It is being installed today, I know he is going to love it. :thumbsup2

Minnie and me doesn't look like it will be happening. While DH said to look into it, I am finding air fare way to $$$ and now cannot get off from work. That is still an outside possibility of time off, but unless I get to split a room rate with someone and find cheap airfare, it is definitely not a possibility anyway.

I did some searching for airfare for you, and found rates of $263-$269 going from Canton/Akron to Orlando on AirTran? Were you hoping for cheaper than that? Is Canton/Akron an option for you to fly out of? You could even depart Friday evening (May 5th) at 5:40p (I also saw a flight at 7:00p), and return Sunday evening (May 7th) at 8:50p. That way you might be able to get away with not taking time off of work.

Southwest is coming up around $420 leaving Cleveland at 7:15p on Friday and returning on Sunday at 4:55p. You could always hope for a DING.

:hyper: T.G.I.F.! :cool1:

I have nothing to report as I was too tired to get out of bed this morning so I will have a "make up" day tomorrow, which is normally a rest day. :goodvibes

Nancy - Ohhhh I hate needles! But I hope your knees feel so great soon that you forget all about the injection business. :wizard:

Dave - Excellent on the track workout! :thumbsup2 I may be brave and take it outside this weekend to the local HS track. It would be my first foray into the outside world.

Jodi - Congratulations on making goal! :worship: That is totally awesome!

Dawn - You go girl with your IPOD and enjoy the spring-like weather! :yay:

Cam - HA HA HA on the "Chinese" workout! :lmao:

OK come on now......WHERE IS LLP????

Judy

Back in lurker mode due to work, but I wanted to post quickly b4 the weekend.

Christa - Lots of :wizard: for your Tri this weekend.

Cam - WTG on the weight loss. You've come SO far!! :cool1:

Jodi - Congrats on hitting your WW lifetime status.

Dave - Love the idea of the kids meet for WDW '07. I'm actually planning on bringing my kiddos this time...

Mel - I would love to look at the group info for the '07 marathon. I'll PM you...

Today is a XT day for me, so I'll be lifting weights at lunch. I am so extremely excited at the prospect of being able to do my LR outside tomorrow. The weather is supposed to be wonderful here. :cheer2:

Best of luck to all on successful training over the weekend.

Happy Friday everyone!

This has been, hands-down, the laziest week ever for me. No classes, nothing to do at work, nothing really to do at home. OK, that's not true... but I'm one of "those people"- give me 1000 things to do and they'll all get done. Give me 3 things to do... never going to happen.

I did get my run in yesterday though. 2.50 miles at 9:13/mile pace. It was 60 degrees out when I ran yesterday. 60!!! (It is, of course, 39 here now. Sigh...) I'm going to try for 4 miles today and then 6 or 6.5 miles Sunday.

I am in the final stages of putting the finishing touches on my Goofy training plan. I've decided to run a half-marathon the weekend before July 4th (not a race, just as a timed training run) to give me an intermediate goal. I will be in Toronto the entire week before, so that should work as a taper. I must admit I am proud of myself for really taking my time to think through my plan in order to take into consideration big work days and my class schedule. My hope is that this will allow me to do a better job of consistantly getting my training in.

Reach the Beach Relay, huh? Hmmm.... that weekend works work-wise. Hmmm...

MDM- :grouphug: :grouphug:

Christa- Best of luck with your tri this weekend. Just remember, as my triathlete friend from college told me, if you come upon a slower swimmer, it's perfectly acceptable to push them down and swim over them ;) (Well, you want to win, right??)

Dawn- My advice would be to keep doing what you are doing if you feel like this is working for you. That said, I think the track might be a good idea if you want to go for a shorter run, but push your pace up. I, personally, might go crazy doing 18 laps around a track when I know I have an alternative. But if you want to work on your pace, I would do it on the track-- where the flatness will certainly benefit you. JMHO. :)

OK, I should go do something.... anything.....
Kevin (Solotraveler) :earsboy:

Kevin - Welcome back!!! Hope you're feeling better from your cold. Sounds like your body needed a little bit of a break.

Nancy & Krista-- needles in the knee, twinges-- oh ouch :grouphug: You're making my unmentionable body part hurt just reading!

Mel-- great photos! :cheer2: I'll have to check out RW, I don't normally read it.

MelR-- yes this is the weekend. I'm going to go do recomb. bike and soduko at the gym today and maybe some upperbody weights and then be a slug tomorrow.

Solo-- RTB is for you! C'mon do it! It'll be ablast.

Cam :thumbsup2 :cool1:  You've been hanging out at the wrong WW boards! Woo Hoo you are so close, baby! I'm so proud of you and happy for you!

I know i've missed a ton, but I've been so overwelmed at work. I've come to the conclusion that if computers weren't my link to WISHers I'd have no use for them at all. I have spent the last 5 days troubleshooting mine at work. Ugh its a slow and painful death....

I did 4 miles on the TM last night, 30 min recomb. bike and 600 m swim. I already lost my speedo :sad2: I left it at the Y on Monday and it didn't find its way into the lost and found. I'm not surprised, it was only worn 3 times. Awfully nice find for the right size body. Oh well, just when I was starting to make friends with it.

Sunny
