Wk of Mar 18--WISH Walking/Running Club

Dave--- There is no way I would have gone to the race in those conditions. I'm a whimp with the cold weather. Great job.

Mike---DS#1 who lives in the Philly area came to visit on Sunday and he commented that we had nice fluffy snow compared to what they had. He works at the QVC and on Friday night anyone who had to travel more than 8 miles they put up in the Sheraton. He must have had one of those heavely mattresses as he said it was the best mattress he ever slept on.

Kelley--- Glad to see a fellow walker. DS#2 is a huge Raven's fan. We only live an hour from Baltimore so he has been able to get to several of the games.

It is sleeting here so not sure if I will get to Pilates tonight. If not I will do the Walk away the pounds video for XT. I am so sick of this weather.

Nothing of note training wise for me, so here's your Forerunner pricing update:

Buy.com has the Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Watch, model no. 010-00467-00, for $249.99 before this $50 mail-in rebate, $199.99 after. With $7.07 for shipping, that's $10 off our last mention and the lowest total price we've seen.

Did my first non race long run in quite a while on Sat, an 8.5 miler that was supposed to be 10 but got shortened when I had to turn around and retrace my steps to look for the cell phone I thought got bounced out of my camelbak but turned out had just slid to the bottom of the pouch as I discovered a few miles later when it rang... Then today was a total stonker 3 miler, I was doing my HM pace around 9mpm, and basically had to stop at 2 miles and take a break before finishing I felt so tired. Might be the humidity?

Now, to try and catch up with everyone!

Mel--I would have loved to have 56 degrees yesterday!! WTG for getting in your run, you had a great time!
Cam--Sorry to hear your 5K got cancelled. I know the feeling, as that is what happened to me, luckily I was able to find another race. That's awesome that you signed up for the Chicago Distance Classic, sounds like a beautiful course.
Angie--Glad to hear your DS is feeling better!
Nancy--sorry to hear about all the snow! Hang in there, warmer temps are on the way! And then of course we will all complain that it is too hot, at least I know I will be! :rotfl2:
Vic--Hope you are feeling better!
Carrie--WTG for getting outside for your run in the cold temps!!
Martha--sounds like a good circuit workout that you did. Your DD and DH are so lucky to be over in London and Paris...those are two of my favorite cities to visit overseas!
Sara--WTG for getting your 11 miles done on the TM!
TxAng--sounds like a busy week with your mom moving! And I would say all that moving definetely counts as XT!! Yes, that was my first 5K ever, I was even surprised with my results!!!!
Kristi--Awesome job on your 9 mile run!
Krista--Glad to hear you had a great run! Isn't that a great feeling!
Maggie--That is great that you found a babysitter for sunday mornings!!!
Andrew--That's great that you got to spend quality time with your DW, and get some exercise at the same time!
Judy--WTG for getting your workout in this weekend despite the weather. I can't wait for warmer temps!! And you are right, Tony did get robbed yesterday!!!!
Meghan--Great job on running a whole mile! Before you know if you will be running a lot more than that...keep up the great work!
Dave--AWESOME JOB IN YOUR RACE THIS WEEKEND!! Those conditions look crazy. I though I had it bad with the wind yesterday, that snow looks much worse! WTG for getting out there and racing, and having a GREAT time!!

Sorry if I missed anyone, it is hard to keep up with this group sometimes! But I love reading everyone's posts!!

Maggie: great job on the 3 miles! Don't berate yourself for it being "only" 3 miles!

rosy1020: keep us posted on how your training program is going!

Jen: glad you survived the heat!

Andrew: I love the idea of a walk with my significant other. Oh wait, no can do. DH isn't here and the weather is lousy! I'm jealous.

Monica: hope the TM gets fixed soon!

Stephanie: what is the running clinic? Do a group of you get together to run or do you work on other things?

Kelley: welcome back and congrats on registering for the Goofy!

Kiena: :welcome:

Kevin: I love how you "only" ran 12 miles at "only" 9:30 pace! To me, that's really impressive and you should be happy with it!

Judy: happy to hear the knee is doing better! Don't push it too hard. We want you there with us at the Minnie!

Meghan: :thumbsup2 on the mile run!

Dave: awesome pictures!! Congrats on the time.

Laurie: GREAT job on the race.

DH and DD keep sending these emails of how their trip is going. Don't get me wrong. I do want to hear how they are doing. But when I'm shovelling ice and snow and monitoring two cats in a situation that is nothing less than a DMZ, the LAST thing I need is to hear that they went to the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, the Totenham match, St. Pauls cathedral and the British Museum. Let alone the food they are eating (DON'T get me started...). Sigh....nope, I'm not jealous, I'm not jealous!

But I digress...

Short training session after the long run yesterday. Boy are my legs still tired. I guess I shouldn't have expected anything else considering the illness and then shovelling (see above) so my legs should have been tired. And here's something really weird: I ended up with a bruise on the TOP of my right foot that somehow happened during the long run. Go figure. I was running on the bottoms of my feet not the tops. Didn't start to hurt until half-way through the run. Has anyone had this happen?

Hope everyone is well!

MArtha - All I can think of is that maybe you tied your shoes to tight. :confused3

Laurie - Awesome pace!

Matt - WHat a frustrating LR!!! That is something I would do!

Vic - I have a hard time picturign you as a girly man! :lmao:

Dave - Way to go on running in nasty conditions! (For once, I had much better weather)

Melissa - COngrats on teh meet! Way to go fro going solo!

Does taxes count as XT. I think that's what I'm doing tonight. Postponing the SR to tomorrow.

Martha--the Running Clinic is called "Women Can Run Arkansas" It's a 11 week clinic designed for all levels of fitness, from those just off the couch to walk to advanced runners. The clinics are held in cities across the state. We meet twice a week, one day we have a speaker and run/walk, the other is just running/walking. The "graduation" event is a Women only 5K in May--the weekend after Minnie.

It was originally started 5 or so years ago by the wife of one of my dad's long time running buddies. She wanted women to not feel like running was a man's sport, and this is a really non-intimidating way for women new to the sport to get out there. I've really enjoyed being out there with women in my community. I hope some of us will continue to run together post clinic!

Mel, do you have to tell us about how nice FL is? Seriously, can you please convince my DW to follow my dreams and move down there away from the crap that is winter? I hate the cold, snow, ice, etc...

Jim, your plan to increase walk pace sounds like a great way to cut off a lot of minutes – the water cooler thingy will help too. Good effort on the 10 miler. Did you have to rub in the distance to WDW though?

Mike “goofyguy” B

I guess I should not mention eating rock shrimp and having a cold one Saturday afternoon while overlooking the intercoastal in the beautiful sun....

Or that I wear shorts to my office job most days.....

Or that Wednesday night I meeting some out of town guests for dinner on the ocean.....

And that if everyone moved to Florida we would sink into the ocean!!! :lmao:

Cam- Here's the quote I have from Runner's World a while back-

Running or walking 11 miles a week isn't going to prevent the accumulation of waist fat. Increase your training to 20 miles a week, however, and you'll lose abdominal fat, even without decreasing your calorie intake. Source: Journal of Applied Physiology

HTH!

Just had to post my run for tonight! 2.71 miles in 30 min for an 11:03 pace  Splits were 11:09, 10:53 and 11:09! I have never had a sub-11 mile before party:

:welcome: Kiena!

Welcome back Kelley!

Where are Helen and Susan and Dena and Dana and Lily??

Jen and Melissa...I found Polartech fleece in cut yards and rolls at maldenmills.com. They also have Polartec's wicking fabric, but only had navy when I checked last. Seemed expensive either way.

Laurie...congrats on your race finish! :yay:

Dave...you are hardcore, man! I can't imagine...reminds me of Carrie's last 5K pictures :cold: I didn't even see snow for the first time until I was 27.

We might be enjoying the weather now, but y'all can remind us of this conversation in a few months when it's beautiful up there and we're melting in the humidity :sunny: :sunny:

Can someone explain how the DING software works? I downloaded it, but not sure I really understand. Do I need to keep it running in the background all the time? I only have it at home, not on my work PC.

Mel - Thank you for letting me know about that fabric. I wish i could sew!!!!! I can but not well:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Random OT post: Any Indy car fans here? I have a pair of tickets to the race in Miami on Sat that I can't use and I would love to give them to someone who can. I won tickets to evey race this season, but I can really only make it to the races in and near the midwest, so I'll probably be offering additional free tickets in the future. Anyway, let me know if you are interested!

Meghan - DD just had a heart attack. Ever since last year's Indy 500, she is the world's BIGGEST Indy fan. We only made it to Richmond last year, and are planning to go this year, but I haven't bought tickets yet. If you're not gonna use the Richmond tickets, let me know! She's already trying to figure out how to get to Miami on Saturday; unfortunately, we have a big family event here in NC that means we absolutely cannot be in FL!

Jackie, I may have to fight your DD for that title! I am lucky enough to live about 90 minutes from Indy and last year I got a garage pass, so I spent most of the month of May at the track. I also managed to camp out and attend the 2nd hottest Indy 500 in history - all while 6 1/2 months pregnant! I went to the race in Milwaukee three weeks before I had my DD. Yeah, I'm a little crazy. I always say that, in a perfect world, Disney would sponsor an IRL team in order to combine my two great loves. Anyway, my Miami tickets were just taken by a distant friend of the family, but my Richmond tickets are yours if you still want them. (Just tell your DD to send me lots of pictures!) I won't get them in the mail until about 2 weeks prior to the race, but I can send them to you as soon as I receive them. PM me with your address. Oh, and let me know if she is interested in any other races. I am planning to attend Kansas, Indy, Milwaukee, Kentucky, Michigan, mid-Ohio, Iowa, and Chicago. The others are up for grabs at this point.

To get back to the topic of this thread... Tonight was a XT night so I took my youngest for a nice 2 mile walk. The weather was finally nice enough to break out the stroller!

Kelley – Welcome back!

Kiena – Welcome!

Sunny – No TM advice, but I hope that life settles down for you soon!

Meghan – WTG on running that mile!!

Dave – Great photos! Wow, that just looks miserable. Great job on the race!

Mel – Congrats on the sub-11 mile!!

DH and I finally managed to get back on the road today. We ended up taking it really easy, though - 1.57 miles in 23:08. We really weren't feeling it today, but I think that's because we're still tired from the past couple of weeks. Only managed three R1/W2 intervals - the rest was straight walking.

We did get home in time to see the POTC3 trailer! Yay! :)

Mel - that is really great!! Good job.

stephanie - I forgot to respond to your question, so i'm doing it now (my home is now calm for teh evening) I think the 2 marathons are totally w/in reason. Hal Higdon has a training program for the time in between multiple marathons. The first yr. i did disney, I did Goofy, then an off road 50k in feb, then Cowtown marthon in Ft. Worth in March and then Hogeye in April and Hogeye ended up being my best time. I didn't get up to any higher than 15 miles in between and they were all enjoyable. (mostly) Good luck w/ whatever you decide. I did pretty much run them all at a training pace as I didn't really care about the time and I found that the recovery was not so bad afterwards.

Kelley - Welcome back! I was wondering where you'd gone! You've got a full schedule.

Kiena - :welcome:

Sunny - Good to see you back!

Judy - YOU are not ragged! And now, neither is your picture. Of course, after reading your coaching techniques, I'm scared to put it back on the TM. You're TOUGH!

Meghan - Congratulations on running a mile!

Dave - I thought my race was cold. After seeing your pictures, I'm thinking mine was tropical!

Mel - Great time!

If only I could get DH to assemble the TM... I have a feeling I'm going to end up calling the store and paying them to come out and put the thing together. In the meantime, I'm walking at lunch with my co-worker. Today we altered our route from 1.6 to 2.25 miles. Better than nothing!

Jackie

Mel - you are killing me! I caught up with you sub-12 min. miles. Now I need to get to sub 11s?! :faint: You go, girl! :cheer2:

Dave - great pics & report! You are much braver than me.

I am going to get my 5 miler in later today.
I will probably not be hanging around here much this week. I have to get ready for a rendevous with my boyfriend...
