Wk of Mar 18--WISH Walking/Running Club

Nancy – Thanks for the suggestions. I have to confess. I don’t perceive Harrisburg as very scenic! :rotfl: I am really hoping we will be going to Chicago to gather a penguin medal!
I was trying to find that one online - the links didn't work. I would actually like to do one in that area sometime - all my mom's family lives in the outskirts of Harrisburg, so it would make for a really fun reason to visit. We haven't been down that way in a few years now.

Kristi – did you get to the track? Nine miles? WTH are you training for, a marathon? Seriously, don’t overdo it, sweetie! We don’t want you wearing yourself out. Oh, and good job on the liquids intake. I am working on that myself.
I am still procrastinating. But I am dressed, bag packed for the gym, and now coupons ready for Walgreens on the way (yes, I am weird. I do my Walgreens sale/coupon shopping on the way to the Y each Sunday)

YAY for CM’s and Jellyroll’s! I figure if Kristi thinks it’s a fun place, we may all want to start saving bail money! :rolleyes1
I only wish I was half as wild as you all think I am! I must work on that - I've been too much of a goodie goodie all my life!
But yes, keep the bail fund going...:cool2:
We should start to try to come up with some really good requests for Jellyrolls. I want to request "You Shook Me All Night Long!" I better start saving my $1s.

Kristi -- get thee to a gym, sweetie! I'm off to work, but I'll check back later to see how it went. Walgreen's? BLECHH!! Long story. You'd never believe it in a 100 years.

Okay, I did it. Just registered Howard and me for the Chicago Distance Classic on 8/12! :yay: :cheer2:  Soooo happy to have something between the Minnie and the 08 Mickey! Now I'll have to figure out hotel and airfare.

Hi everyone, I just posted my race recap in the weekly race thread, so go ahead and check it out. I took a few pics before I left for the race so I added them in. I'm still waiting on official results, and there may be a picture or two of me from the course since I know there were photographers out there.

For those of you with Garmins, have any of you guys tried uploading your GPS data from Training Center to Bones in Motion online? It is a super cool site since it will actually overlay your route on top of a Google map or satellite pic and give you detailed elevation maps. I definitely recommend checking it out.

http://bimactive.com

And for those of you without Garmins, BiM has a deal with a few cell phone companies that you can use your cell phone as a GPS receiver and upload your run data.

OK - must cross train today. Gotta get on that so I'll talk to you guys later!

Cam - I am still planning on you and Howard joining in for the Philadelphia Distance Run on 9/16!! Mike and I are definitely coming down to run it. If you guys don't run I still want to try to catch up with you while we're in town.

11 miles for me yesterday on the TM and I volunteered for finish line duty today at our local 5 mile Shamrock Shuffle this morning. It was COLD!! There were about 320 runners who finished and it was a great time. This guy Frank who was working the finish line with me says he did the Goofy this year. Talk about a small world!!! Also, I won a trophy for 3rd place in the 30-39 year-old female division for the grand prix long course competition in my running club. I guess that means I am a "real" runner.:confused3

Congrats to everyone racing this weekend and putting in training time.:cool1:  I am trying to keep up here but work is just plain nuts!! I hope it'll pass soon so I can actually contribute again and not feel so lost on this thread.

Quickie second post of the day: 65 minutes on the treadmill. Every 5 minutes I changed the speed and fluctuated between 10:54 min miles (5.5 miles an hour) to 10:30 min miles (5.7 miles an hour).

Is there such a thing as half a stonker? If so, then that's what this LR was. My legs were heavy and I had a bad stitch the last 5 minutes. But 6 miles in 63:58 and 6.1 in 65 minutes. So that's good.

Great job to those who raced this weekend, had outdoor runs or simply had a good workout!!

I'm sneaking back into the action now. :tiptoe:

What a week this has been! Ack! We only got one run/walk in, and that was last Monday. Has it really been a whole week?

Well, Mom made it into town safe and sound. They pulled the U-Haul in at about 10 pm on Tuesday night, so we went and picked them up (her van is having transmission problems), dropped her cat off at our house, and then went to Denny's for dinner. Obviously, a very late night.

Wednesday, DH and I both left work a couple of hours early in order to go to her house and help unload. DH and one of his friends really ended up doing most of the heavy work, and they were speedy about it! Finished unloading that night, fairly late.

And we've spent the past couple of nights over at Mom's helping her unpack. She's got a LOT of stuff!

So, that's where I've been. I think all the moving should count as xt.

Someone asked if she was going to be close by. Yes, her house is almost exactly 6 miles from ours. Mom and I get along fine, so I'm really happy that she'll be so close. Plus she's got my baby brother with her, too (he's 11), so it'll be fun to be able to spend more time with him. :)

Ok, sorry for the novel! Off to try to catch up at least a little.

Cam - I am still planning on you and Howard joining in for the Philadelphia Distance Run on 9/16!! Mike and I are definitely coming down to run it. If you guys don't run I still want to try to catch up with you while we're in town.

Sara -- Howard and I were very disappointed to learn that Andrew's Confirmation is 9/16 at noon. :sad1: Of all the Sundays! You and I and Howard and Mike will have to coordinate on getting together that weekend (I'd suggest a Saturday night carb load! ;) )and the invitation definitely stands for you guys to stay with us. Unless you were looking forward to a nice romantic weekend away at a posh hotel, of course. :goodvibes:

Oh, Martha, what I wouldn't give to have one of your half-stonker runs! I was 16 minutes behind your 6 mile time when I did my TM LW/R yesterday! Good job!

Angie -- so glad your mom made it in safely. How fun for you to have her and your baby brother nearby! Maybe you could cultivate a new running partner! :yay: And yes, all that hauling and bending and unpacking certainly counts for cross-training! :)

I just got back from my 9 miles & I am so excited I can hardly stand myself! :rotfl:

I won't bore you with all the splits, but my slowest mile was a 12:00 & my fastest was an 11:45. So, not only was I very consistent, I stayed below 12 min. miles! :woohoo: My total time was 1:47:13.

And considering I finished the Minnie last year in 2:18, I think I am going to totally blow that time away this year!

My goal for my half in 2 weeks is to finish under 3 hours.
My big, keep it to myself goal is to finish in 2:45. If I can keep this up, I'll do it!

Cam - you must share the Walgreens story! I go there every week and make out like a bandit with free & dirt cheap stuff. You've never seen so much toothpaste as I have in my stockpile - most of it free!

Colleen – Oh, no, that’s too bad about DH not running Boston! How disappointing.

Paul – Congratulations!! She’s beautiful.

Martha – Oh, I hope your kitties settle down. Great job on the run today!

Angie – Hope DS is feeling better! Sick at Disney? That’s terrible!

Cam – WTG for getting your run in even though the 5K was cancelled. I probably would have used that as a great excuse to sit on my rear and eat some ice cream!

Vic – Feel better soon!

Hey everybody,

Just a quick drive by report on my race today!!! I posted a report on the race thread also. I ended up doing the Leprechaun Leap 5k in Mt. Olive, NJ, since my original race the Hillsdale 5K was cancelled due to the snow the other day. I finished in 28:20.

I am pretty psyched with my time, as this was my first 5K ever, and the weather wasn't exactly ideal.

I will catch up with everyone later on this evening, as I really want to try to keep up with the posts this week.

Congrats to everyone who trained this weekend or ran in races!!

Back to the Nascar race!! GO DALE JR!!!!!

WOW! This is a chatty group once again....I xtrained today...by taking a nap after my show. My late night is taking control. I need to be rested up b/c I got 5 new clients this week!:scared1: JIC you don't know, THAT IS ALOT! I am at the top of my case load.

Angie - Gald your mom got in safe. Where in TX are you from. I used to live in Fort Worth!

That is great! I know why you are so excited!

Great pace! You were flying and will blow Minnie out of the water!

Sara - YES! You are a real runner! THat is too cool! How funny that you just tag that on like it is no big deal! I would have told the world and bored everyone with the details and posted pic and bored everyone once again with the detail about how fast I am and...well you get the picture!

Hi everybody!! I am just back from my 7 mile lr and it was absolutely perfect! I finished in 1:19:48, still not back to where I was pre-IT band injury, but I am getting back there. I did not have any pain in my quad, IT band, knee, or ankle, so I'm stoked!!  It's about 40 degrees here--perfect running weather for me and not a cloud in the sky. The only bad part of the run was my pre-run meal was sitting very heavy in my stomach. I really needed that good run today, I haven't said much on here, but I've been in a terrible running slump since the marathon. The marathon was extremely disappointing for me because of my injury, the heat, and my over-all time. But I've had 3 great runs this week--all outside, faster than I had been doing on the treadmill, greater run intervals, and pain-free. I think I am finally shaking some of those demons off.

Kristi--Great job on your 9 miler!! You are going to rock Minnie!! I am a coupon cutter too, Stephen teases me for going through the coupons every week and then digging through my coupon envelope while at the grocery store, but I continually save about $5-$10 a week--that adds up!!!

Vic--My sock eater is doing just fine! Right now he's laying on the floor sleeping, he run the first 4 miles of my 7 miler with me and he is TIRED!!! Hope you are feeling better. :wizard:

Laurie--Fabulous 5K!!!! Congrats!

Christa--There must have been a full moon last night, Stephen and I were both up until almost 2:00. We just weren't tired. Getting up for church this morning was hard! Good luck on your week, don't work youself too hard!!

Sara--Good to see you here! Congrats on placing in your age group! I figure I'll place in my age group when I'm about 80! ;)

Martha--Boy, you are speedy!!! I'd love to have your stonker run! Good luck with the kitties! I swear animals are just like kids!!!

Carrie--I'm glad the snow is starting to melt for you guys. It's been a long winter!!

Cam--I'm so sorry about your 5K! That is disappointing!!! Oh well, it just gives you time to get faster! :goodvibes

Tiff--You hush! Colleen is doing the Pig!!! ;) ;) ;) I'm glad you're training is going better this year!

Well, Stephen just back from his 13 miler, I'll let him post about though. He was smiling and dancing when he came in, so it must have gone pretty good!

Here's a picture for you

Running is just fun for me so I am kind of amused at the hardware. I didn't even go to the banquet to pick it up but they gave it to me today when I volunteered at the Shamrock Shuffle finish line.:rotfl2:

Trying these links again. I'm not sure why the links aren't working. I had some problems with other links not working on the DIS. Some parts of Harrisburg on City Island are nice, you go back the baseball stadium, soccer fields, and shops along the river front. So is more scenic than you think it would be.

I did 7 miles on the TM today. It is a long boring walk even with reading. I could have gone longer, but couldn't stand it anymore and had to get off and out of the gym. The rest of the afternoon was spent on a Wine Tour, much better than walking on a TM.

Okay, needing some advice (again!;) )

DH is wanting to do a race this fall before WDW. We are considering the Akron Marathon or Half. He wants to do one in Akron b/c of the proximity to his parents, aka babysitters. Anyway, I was drawn to the full b/c every finisher gets a coupon for a FREE PAIR of BROOKS RUNNING SHOES!!!:cool1: :cool1: Of course along with the bling! So, my question is, would 3 months be long enough to recover and then try to run another marathon???? Or should we just do the 1/2 and call it "training"?

Wow, 3 pages & it is only Sunday afternoon!

Kristi-boy are you flying! I cant get that fast a pace unless there is a good bit of running in there. WTG :thumbsup2

Sara-congrats! And there was never any doubt in any of our minds that you are a real runner:cheer2:

Cam-I am so jealous that you guys have signed up for the CDC. I want a penguin medal toooooooooo. (that's me whinning ) hummm, Chicago is within driving distance..............

Martha-no stonker you are doing great!!!

Krista-good job getting out there! Be careful not to anger the IT though:wizard:

Christa-Girlfriend, your whole life is XT! There is no one who deserves a nap more than you :goodvibes Good luck this week.

Just in case anyone needs a little nudge.....

It really was a lot of fun last year!! And Cam, since you and Howard are registered I figured I'd better get myself and DH officially registered too!! I think Maggie is registered also....It fits in so nicely between Minnie and WDW in January!!

Tiffany - you give me too much credit, girl! I do walk 3 mins, run 1 min. to get those 12 min. miles.

Nancy - thanks for the Harrisburg links. Mom & I have been saying how we need to go down there for a long weekend to visit. What a great reason!

Christa - turns out my in-laws are trying to plan a trip to Sugar Mtn. this summer already. I just don't think I can talk them into mid-july as my SIL is due on August 1st. I had Zack 2.5 weeks early and MIL had to pay outrageous $$$ to fly home from a conference in AL. She doesn't want to have that happen again. But, you never know... I am working on it.

Krista - a fellow coupon queen! You should check out www.thegrocerygame.com. I do their Walgreens & CVS lists and save a TON.

Hi all,

I got out for 3 miles today total. I walked my kiddos to the library. I am a little over 1.5 miles from the library. I pushed the kiddos in a bike trailer kind of stroller. As I was pushing them up a few minor hills, I realized I was pushing about 80lbs. Anyway, not like some of you, but I didn't drive!:thumbsup2 I will take small successed where I can. he he..

Oh, and I secured a babysitter for every Sunday morning from May -Aug. So no excuses for missing LW while training for the CDC. Yeah.
Have a great week,
Maggie

Hey everyone...just wanted to say congrats to all this weekend's racers! I'm even more in awe of those of you who completed those races in the cold weather. While I'm originally from NJ, I've totally acclimated to the warm weather on our island here and can't stand the thought of running outside if it's colder than 60 degrees...I guess this will be a good thing for the last couple hours of the Disney full but I'll probably be dying in the early morning hours. From what I've read/heard, it's usually pretty cold waiting for the race to start.

I created my own training program (44 wks), it's a blend of a couple of others that I kind of tailored to my needs. It officially starts this week so I'm pretty excited. I'm glad to have this board to help me stay on track and stay motivated...reading about all of your races and progress is really inspiring :)
