Wk of Mar 18--WISH Walking/Running Club

Okay, I did it. Just registered Howard and me for the Chicago Distance Classic on 8/12! :yay: :cheer2:  Soooo happy to have something between the Minnie and the 08 Mickey! Now I'll have to figure out hotel and airfare.

CAM - OMG you are going to be in my neck of the country??????? Wow I live about 4.5 hrs from Chicago and have been considering trying for a Penguin medal. It would be so great to have a WISH meet :cool1: Definitely would give me a purpose to get back into training

CAM!!! YOU DID NOT REGISTER FOR CHICAGO!!!!! YOU DID???? OMG, now I have to register. I have been holding out because that is a very busy time for me at work... but now you are registered and Pat is registering... I might have to register. Ohhhh.... wouldn't it be fun!!!! I was planning on waiting until next year, but now I just might. I will keep you posted!!!

I am back home. Yesterday I finished up my training class early, so I decided to go to a somewhat safe looking residential area and run around the blocks a bunch. It was so hot... 85 degrees and bright sun. I did 3.35 miles according to my garmin. My training called for 3, so I was happy with that. I was a bit slow, one because I had no clue where to go, and two, because it really was hot for me. Here at home it is in the 30's.

Carrie - You wouldn't have liked my run in CA.... it was darn tootin' hot. I don't like the heat much either.

OK, I need to be with family now. I just had to post tho!!!!

Chicago Distance Classic - You guys are killing me!!! OK, so it does not fall on the weekend of the local festival this year. It does fall on a bigger family gathering weekend. Ugh. I need to see if I can get mom and db to re-arrange things. If so, we're in! :cool1: Cross your fingers that it works out for the rest of my family!

Jen - Do you ever feel like you're living the story of teh Three Bears. This climate is too cold! This climate is too hot! We need to find one that is just right! ;)

maggie - Way to go on getting teh sitter! Great job on pushing teh kids to the library too! That's a great work out!

Kristin - Good luck on your new training program!!!!

sara - Holy cow! That's a trophy!!!

Krista - Way too go on teh great pain-free run!!! I know what you mean about the rut. I'm really hoping to do well at Minnie (and hope you'll g=do well at teh pig). LThe marathon left such a bad taste in my mouth. I know I did what I could under the circumstances to some extent, but I always wonder if I gave up on running to soon. No matter what my head says abuot conditions, my heart feels like I failed this one.

Stephanie - I think 3 months will be plenty to recover.

Mel - Good job on the 4 miler. I will definately have to start training with a R/W pace if I am to be successfull with my 1st Marathon in Sept. Will have to do some research to find a pace/training plan that works for me. Darcey loves her MIzuno Wave Alchemy 6's.
Cam - Sorry your 5K got cancelled! But you so rock by getting into the gym for some TM work anyway!:thumbsup2 Good to here you signed up for the Chicago Distance Classic. I would love to do that one....maybe next year.
Jackie - "Protein Spills" :rotfl2: :rotfl2: ...I'm gonna have to use that at work..."Dr. the patient was nauseas and had a protein spill of approximately 150cc's"....see if they get it.
Christa - How was the show?
Nancy - 12 inches of the evil white stuff? I'm so sorry, I feel for you...we are starting our Spring weather here and so far it seems that winter has moved on.
Big Vic - Hope you get to feeling better and kick whatever holding on soon!
Carrie - Great job on getting out for your 7 miles even if your pace was "just okay" (I'm willing to bet it still was faster than most).:thumbsup2
Martha - Hope your back gets to feeling better...but still major kudos to you for getting your cardio circuit and TM work in!
JeanneG - Not everyone here is a runner...but we are all forward motion activators.
Leana - Thanks for the link...thats a pretty neat site!
TXAng - WOW sounds like a busy week....hope this one is a little better for your training...although I would definately call unpacking crosstraining.
Kristi - Woo Hoo...way to go! You are so gonna smash your goal!:cool1:
Krista - Great Run! Hopefully your IT band is gonna continue to behave itself.
Pat - Thanks for posting those great pics! I may have to come to Chicago to be a Scream Team for my fellow WISHers doing it, after all it's only 3 hours away.
Maggie - Great job with getting out for what sounds like a nice 3 miles with your children. Pushing 80 pounds really adds to the work involved....for sure take your success...it's not "small" by any means! Thats great you were able to get child care set up for your training!
Rosy - Definately keep us up to date with your training. We are just as excited with hearing from you as you are keeping in touch!

This morning I woke up and saw how beautiful it was outside, although a little chilly. I got out and ran for two miles. It felt so good to get out that when I got back, my DW suggested we go for a walk later on. Sooo, a few hours later, DW and I went for a brisk 4 mile walk. I love to spend that time with her! GREAT DAY!:goodvibes

Work tommorrow so it may be a rest day or if I get home early enough some XT work!

Happy Training!

Cam – Mom’s always enjoyed walking for exercise, so I’m hoping to get her to join us in some of the local 5Ks and 10Ks once she’s gotten settled in. Don’t know if she’d be interested in doing any more than that, but you never know!

Kristi – WTG! Awesome pace!

Laurie – This was your first 5K? You finished with a great time! WTG!

Christa – We live in Austin.

Krista – Yay for pain-free running! Glad to hear that the sock eater has fully recovered. :)

Okay, needing some advice (again!;) )

DH is wanting to do a race this fall before WDW. We are considering the Akron Marathon or Half. He wants to do one in Akron b/c of the proximity to his parents, aka babysitters. Anyway, I was drawn to the full b/c every finisher gets a coupon for a FREE PAIR of BROOKS RUNNING SHOES!!!:cool1: :cool1: Of course along with the bling! So, my question is, would 3 months be long enough to recover and then try to run another marathon???? Or should we just do the 1/2 and call it "training"?

It all depends on how hard you run the race and what your recovery is. To help speed my recovery, as soon as possible after the race I ice bath and will walk about 2 miles that same night and again the next day.

Once I start marathon season I try to run one every 4-6 weeks. That keeps my distance up so I don't have to put in any long weeks between the races. I follow Galloway so recovery is pretty quick for me. I will start running again 2 days after a race.

It really comes down to what your recovery is. I would think three months would be long enough assuming you follow a recovery plan which includes getting back to running that week, all slow and nothing long.

I had a good workout after work....rode the stationary bike for 45 mins. then the eliptical for 15. That's the first time I've used an eliptical and enjoyed it, however I do miss my tm. Hopefully the repairman can come up on Wednesday.

Nothing changes if nothing changes....I like that saying:hippie:

Jim--thanks, that's what I was thinking. My recovery from my first went really well-I was thinking of running the one in Sept. easy and then let it all out in January. Hopefully everything will work out! I want those free pair of shoes!

Well, today marks the beginning of my Minnie training. I have running clinic tonight, so I'm planning to run over to the clinic and then do at least 3 miles there. It's definitely a hill workout to get to the clinic site from here, so we'll see how that goes!

OMG!!! A mid-year WISH meet!!!
Chicago -- August 10-12 -- Be there!
Minnie, Jen, Maggie, Pat, Tiffany . . . . !!!!!!
Okay, who else? Sorry if I missed anyone else so far!
Come on, WISHers!!! Come out and play!!!
I know Lily was just in that area. Maybe we could persuade her to register, too!
Oh, Andrew, why not this year?
I really have to find reasonable flights. I am counting on SWA to come through with a DING for this. So far, it is looking like $550 round trip! Funny how you always see PHL to midway when you're NOT looking!

Okay, Chicagoans, looking for advice on hotels and someplace to eat dinner Saturday night.

Now, I really have to keep up my training after the Minnie and not gain those summer barbecue pounds. ;) I just read on another thread that you have to do 20 miles at the very least to burn fat in a week. Is that right? UGH!!! Not anywhere near that right now. No wonder the blasted scale won't move. 68.8 pounds and holding. Bummer.

Hi everyone. :wave2:

Does anyone remember me? I was here occassionally in the weeks leading up to the WDW Marathon Weekend. Then, when the holidays hit, I found it harder and harder to post.

Since completing the WDW half, I've hardly been on this forum at all. :sad1: I've missed it and am glad the last few chaotic months are winding down. (Nothing earthshattering going on, just general distracting and disruptive cr*p.)

With things returning to normal and the weather getting warmer, I'm now back on track and my training is in full swing.

I'm a walker and have the following events planned for this year:
April 21 - a little 5K at the local high school.
May 6 - Frederick (Maryland) half marathon (this will be my 3rd half overall)
October 13 - Baltimore marathon (my first full marathon)

January 12 & 13 - I've registered for the Goofy. The jury's still out on whether or not I'll actually be able to finish both races. It will depend on how I do in Baltimore. DS (run) and DSis (walk) are hoping to do the Donald as their first halves. So, as event virgins, they're kinda hoping I can be there with them. GULP.

That's all for now. It's nice to be back. :goodvibes

Welcome back, Kelley! We've missed you! So glad to see your plan. I was wondering about recovery time between Baltimore and WDW, which is one of the reasons I haven't even considered that one. Is it a flat course?

I have a question: I know the Goofy has been closed for quite some time now, but if both the Donald and Mickey still have availability how is that so?
My daughter is now saying she would like to run both. I'm thinking she can probably still do if she signs up for each individually, that but she won't get the Goofy medal. Is that right?

Hi! I'm new to this group but not to Disney running. I've done 4 Full and 2 half including the 2006 Goofy. I wanted to do Goofy '08 but see it is full and I had to 'settle' for just the Mickey.:rotfl:

Looking forward to 'training' with all of you folks!

Kiena

Cam - If I do go to Chicago, we will stay in the northern burbs. Maybe Pat can give us all the details since she is the resident expert. I don't know about parking for the race either. It is a 4 hour drive to the northern burbs from my home. I have previously tucked the Chicago 1/2 in the back of my head, now I need to pull it out and think more about it. Heck, I haven't even registered for WDW yet!!!

Carrie - Oh if we do get a WISH meet at Chicago, you have to join us!!!!

Krista/Steve - DO CHICAGO???????

Kelly - Welcome back. I don't have lots of time to post either. It comes and goes. Good luck with your race plans.

OK, need to get back to work.

Welcome back, Kelley! We've missed you! So glad to see your plan. I was wondering about recovery time between Baltimore and WDW, which is one of the reasons I haven't even considered that one. Is it a flat course?

I know, 13 weeks between Balt and WDW makes me a little nervous. That's why I'm "iffy" about the Goofy. Optimistic, but iffy.

Compared to WDW, Baltimore is quite hilly. But, compared to my usual training routes, it's nearly the same. So that's why I think I can finish the full. I'm hoping that cutting my teeth on a hilly full will make a flat Goofy seem a little easier.

Crazy, probably. But that's my goal for now. :faint: :worried:

jeanneg - Registration for the Goofy is capped at 3,000 people, but that by no means indicates how many spots are available for the half and the full. I'm actually not sure how many spots there are for either the full or the half. If she was really keen to run both races she can definitely sign up for both, but she won't be a recognized Goofy participant, hence no Goofy medal, shirt or Goofy finisher certificate. It is up to her if she wants to do it without getting all the extra stuff of being a Goofy participant.

Sorry I've been MIA. Bad case of LTO (life takes over).

Can I ask for a quick response from all treadmill owners? I am so fed up with my schedule not allowing for outdoor running (read SNOW/ICE) and lack of kid help keeping me from the gym that I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a home treadmill. I've never wanted one because home TMs seem so flimsy. Please let me know what you have and how you like it. Thanks! I will probably buy one tonight at Omni Sports or online.

Sunny

Sunny - I have no advice. I am just really glad you popped in here. I was getting worried about you!

Morning all!!

Cam-- That sinks about your race being cancelled. :guilty:

Kristi-- Way to go on your run!! That's a great pace!!

Kelley-- Welcome back!!

Sunny-- No advice, just happy to see you here!!

OK, so we're all going to Chicago in mid-August?!? Let's see--- That's two weeks before classes start for the fall, two weeks after a planned 10K and right before I start "official" Goofy training. Well, this will require some thought.....

I ran about 12 miles when all was said and done last week, which seems like Slackerville when compared to what I throw down during marathon training, but since it's the first time this year I've been out on the roads, I'll take it, especially at 9:30/mile pace. I'm hoping to get out more this week and start to up my weekly distance a bit before I get into the summer 5K/10K season.

Oh, and I finally bought a laptop this week and I am officially addicted to the whole wireless thing... I've carried this thing around with me everywhere for the past three days. I think I'm becoming on of "those people."

Happy training all!
Kevin :earsboy:

Greetings all. :)

Well, thanks to Old Man Winter's firm grip on New York I had to do 7 miles on the TM this weekend. Which I guess was probably a good thing, with my knee and all. It bothered me for a few minutes but then I forgot about it. Probably because I got involved in The Usual Suspects. I'm on a Kevin Spacey kick. I was thinking about becoming the "WISH Treadmill Movie Reviewer". But hopefully that was my last L/R inside until December.

This morning I did 50 min @ 4.0 @ 1%. I'm a pretty brutal coach to myself, I have to say. At 43 minutes I started getting a little tired so I thought to myself "Oh yeah? You think this is hard? TRY THIS!" So I cranked it up to 2.5%. Charlie thinks I might be losing it. I'm beginning to think I might be too.

GGMike
- Oh MAJOR :wizard: for your dad! And some for you too! Oh please. I don't think a day goes by anymore when I don't ask "Why can't we move to Florida?"

Vic - I would just like to say....Tony got robbed yesterday.

(you were getting a little ragged around the edges!)

Jackie - Oh, that's so true...:upsidedow

Martha - Slow down? No, I can't! Not when I'm doing the Minnie with you Speed Demons! I'm using the MfM Half Training Program, which I used, well, for the Half. I like it very much, it works well for me. I may be overdoing the mileage a bit, but that's OK. I'll just be all the more prepared.

Dave - Wow! That's FABULOUS! I'm so proud of you!! You were totally flying!:woohoo:

Colleen
- Whooo hoo! You go girl! Congratulations! :thumbsup2

Leana - WOW! You totally rocked on St Patrick's Day! That's awesome!

Perfect running weather down here if anyone's interested

Mel - Oh stop. :rolleyes2 ;)

Sunny
- Ohh let me go home and see what we have. We REALLY like our TM, and believe me, Charlie was like Consumer Reports researching and trying them out. Glad to see you again. I've just about had it with this weather too.

Kevin - Oh please don't become one of "those people". Here at IBM people have to have their laptops - or "ThinkPads" as we are required to call them - surgically removed when they leave here. It's really rather sad. It's as if they can't function without them.
