Wk of June 17--WISH Walking/Running Club

Good morning WISH Warriors.

This is the weekend for Erica and I. We take mon and tue off together since we both work sat and sun.

We are headed out for a brisk walk in a bit, probably 8 to 10 miles. Then lunch at Red Lobster. We like to have lunch there since they have a great all you can eat soup and salad special for lunch.

We have to take one of Erica's dogs to the vet after, it's been mopping around with no energy. This is the one we got from the pound about 7 years ago. It looks like a combination of several breeds that shouldn't mate.

Have a great day y'all.

Morning teammates! No training to report from me for the past two days. I did however work my tail off at the zoo they call the pharmacy. I offered to work this past weekend at a location I had never been at before--don't think I'll ever offer to work there again--was so busy on Saturday (sat. for pete's sake!) I couldn't even visit the ladies room! Today should be an easy 3 miles and maybe some strength/cross training.

Cam and Howard--great job this weekend. Good luck with the race this week as well!

DaveSW--hope you made it back home safely

Jackie--WTG on the 10 miles! That's an amazing accomplishment!!

Dana--sounds like you got a great workout in. Hope the absence of the ice bath isn't hurting you too bad today

Mel--what an awesome clinic! I would love to have something like that here

Oh, and MelissaR--if you are around here, I visited Lewis and Clark on Friday and wow what an awesome store! I definitely have bike fever now, DH just might actually be on board with me getting one. You'll have to come down for a visit and help me shop!;)

Well, I need to go see if I can find some clean workout clothes. Have a great Monday all!

Started my training in earnest this morning.

My goal: 3 miles each morning at a 10 minute pace, a longer run on the weekend, one day off per week. This morning's results:

3 miles: 29:09 for 9:43 pace.

Have a great day!
Happy training!

:grouphug:

Howard

Good morning WISH team!! Happy Monday! :cool1: Today starts marathon training for the Columbus marathon. I have 3 miles after work, I doubt Hines will run it with me. It's supposed to be in the mid 90's today, so it should be around 85 when I get home at 5:30. Hines does NOT do heat well at all. I wish I were a morning person and I could get up and run before work, but getting out of bed at 5:30 just doesn't appeal to me at all!!

Cam and Howard--Good luck on your 5K Thursday night!! It seems like there are a lot of 5K's in your area!!

Stephanie--Have fun on your 3 miler today. Stephen is trying to get me into biking, I just don't think it's going to work! I think I would love it, but I'm so clumsy, I'd probably kill myself wrecking at 25 mph! Plus I would refuse to ride on the roads around here, so the only place I would ride would be the bike trail which is about 20-25 minutes away. Let's face it, how many times am I really going to drive out there to ride my bike for an hour? Not enough to spend at least $700 on a road bike!

WW Dave---Mmmm, I love breakfast food! Hopefully you will have a less stressful week this week! :wizard:

Dana--I don't have kids, but I have 9 nieces and nephews and I teach 2nd grade Sunday School, so I'm surrounded by kids quite a bit. I think as long as Michael is having fun and enjoying himself and eager to run, then keep doing what you are doing. Are you training for the 5K during marathon weekend or is there another 5K? Hope your legs are feeling better today!

Laura--Good luck on officially starting training! :dance3: And definitely train now with Power Ade so you are used to it by January and you don't have a repeat of 2005!

Mel--That running clinic sounds great! Hopefully the new shoes will be better and you'll be able to run pain free.

FL Bill--It sounds like you had a very peaceful Father's Day! ;) Did you ever find the bottle? The pacifier? The toys? :goodvibes

Lily--Enjoy being a bachelorette this week! I'll be one on Tuesday night.

Diane--Congrats to you and Susan on your 14 miler!!! I'm so jealous you have each other to train with, that must be so nice!

Craig and Martha--I hope you enjoyed your champagne and cheese yesterday. That sounds so romantic! Martha, I am hoping for cooler weather too! Normally heat doesn't bother me, but running in it is a horse of a different color!

Kevin--How's your bilingual dog??? :lmao: That is hysterical!!! It sounds like Hines would fit in just fine with your boys!!!

I hope everyone has a wonderful day today!

Morning folks!

I posted my race report from yesterday on the reporting thread. It was a wet one, but a really fun one. It could be considered a PR, except the course was short. 5.88 mi... I don't think I can call it a PR then, can I? I finished in 1:00:09 (according to the Garmin), which I project would have been about a 1:03:30 finish (which would have been a full two minutes faster from the week before). I guess I just have unfinished business on the 10K now, and I'll have to find another one to sign up for..!!

The past two weeks I feel as though I've really been dragging. My legs have been tired and I've found it hard to get motivated for my runs and workouts. As a result my XT days have suffered. I guess the race yesterday rejuvinated something in me. I came home, did some yoga and am not sore from the fast run yesterday at all. I feel energized and ready to get back into things for the push to my first half marathon in less than three weeks. Tonight my friend Debbie's bikini bootcamp class allows you to bring a friend, so I am going to check it out, and use that for my XT today.

Anyhow...will try to catch up with everyone later. Happy Monday!

Good morning everyone -

What a weekend! Saturday after our L/R Charlie mentions to me that is making a shopping list. I said "Didn't we just go food shopping?" He says yes but this is for tomorrow. I say "What tomorrow"? Oh yeah, he forgot to mention his parents were coming up. And all four kids. And his bother and his daughter. And oh yeah, my dad called and he's coming over with his GF. Oh and my nephew and his friend. GEEZ! How could you forget to tell me that!?? So yesterday was a crazy day!

Cam - You can see why I didn't even hear the phone ring. :upsidedow Seems like we had a hundred people on our deck. Charlie is going to call you, if he hasn't already.

Saturday morning we went to the Memorial Day 5K course and did it twice, and then some. My splits were OK. Nothing great - the fastest was 12:30. But remember this is a nanny-goat course. However, Craig's post last week about intensity really hit home with me. I have been on "maintenance" since the Half, really. Even during Minnie training I didn't push myself much. Just sort of coasted along. So between hills on our L/R I really pushed myself! Then on the hills I focused on going up, if that makes any sense. Man, did I feel it in my butt! I did seven miles, Charlie did eight and a half. It felt really great and since we went very early it wasn't even that hot yet.

My foot did start hurting though. Which brings me to the bad news. My surgery is scheduled for July 9th. :sad1: Which means no training until at least August 9th. It really depends on the swelling. So you can be sure I will be keeping that foot way in the air for the first few weeks!

Jackie - Congratulation on the ten! :thumbsup2 That is a real milestone!!

WWDave - How nice of you to make that offer to everyone. :goodvibes I was wondering what you did IRL...

Cam and Howard - Congratulations on the 5K! :woohoo: I don't care what you say, Cam, you BOTH did fab-u-lous!!

Say, here's some groovy news! Charlie works in commercial construction and came home Friday to tell me he met with "Disney guys" who are renovating a building about 30 min from our house and they are going to use it to build movie sets. How cool is that? Well, you KNOW my resume is on it's way over there. :yay:

HoneiBee, good luck on being discovered.

Erica and I did a nice 8 mile brisk walk, it was over cast but humid. About half way it started raining. It was a gentle ran so fine to walk in. It felt good.

I had to protect Erica from a wild animal.

Erica is off here soon to take the a dog to the vet.

Have a geat day y'all.

Dave:hippie: "YARC"

Hi, everyone! A quick drive-by to post my standing from this past Saturday's 5k.
Cam Keener -- 41:54 (13:31) -- overall placement 252/357. BTW, this is a HUGE walker event complete with about 20 jogging strollers, so don't be too impressed with the fact that I was not in the bottom 25%. LOL! :lmao:

Judy -- I would have clobbered Howard if he "forgot" to tell me we were having that many houseguests/dinner guests!

I debated on if I should even post this or not because my two runs since I last reported where less the stellar. I went to run the pond near my house Saturday and made it half way around before I realized my heart wasn't it and I was distracted. So I clicked off my music sat on a bench and just watched the world go by. I did end up running the rest of the pond but when I should have gone out for a second loop I called it quits. It was also hovering up around 90 degrees and humid by that point and I think the heat was getting to my brain. I didn't want to turn my runs into negative things. Today I just did 2 miles as I think I'm still paying for my misadventure on my 3.5 miler last week. My ankle/calf are sore but the good news is it seems minor(and it's slowly getting easier to deal with) and if I don't push too hard it should be better in no time.

Oh the positive(I always need a positive) my xt yesterday was great. I just did some light weight work but my body felt great. I think that if it's still going this well at the end of the week I'll up most of the weight I'm lifting.

Off to run errands now. Happy Monday everyone! I'm sure I'll be back around later.

Quick Drive-by here....

This weekend's 9-miler was awful... finished in about 1:28, but I was pretty much toast after mile 4. I think it was a combination of the heat and just needing to get used to running that kind of distance again. I guess we will see.....

Busy day here, between studying for finals, cleaning the house and packing. I have finals for this session's summer classes tomorrow at 9am and noon, so hopefully that means we will be on the road by 2:00. It never ceases to amaze me how you can plan for a trip and entire year and it still manages to "sneak up on you."

Back to work here... will catch up and report in from the road!

Kevin :earsboy:

Well I'm back from the weekend, and it will take me 3 hours to catch up with all of you!!

Vic - I love my speedlaces. If you feel like you need a really tight shoe tie, you probably won't like them. But how they are disigned the lace moves with your foot as you run, so they feel secure, but never tight HTH!

Krista - how is the bike riding going? Is it something you are really enjoying, or is it a x-training thing? I also won't get up at 5:30, I try but I am ready to go back to bed by 8:30 if I do.

Leana - what a cool race packet!! :goodvibes for Baniff!

Jackie - :cool1: 10 MILES!!!! Way to go!

Mel - What a cool clinic! I would love to get to talk to a triathlete!

Angie - Grrr on the blister, I wish I had some advice.

andromedaslove - I know what you mean about ice baths, I am so sad that I am doing most of my hard runs on the TM at the gym. :scared: Definately no ice baths there!

WWDave - :rotfl2: about the dog. Not that she's not feeling good, that not funny, but that she looks like several breeds that shouldn't mate. We had a dog like that. He was Pit Bull, German Shepard, Chow, but mostly Chihuahua. He was a funny looking dog.

I camped in the backyard with my 3 yo on Friday night, and then we had 1 get together after another, so I go no serious training in. I did do about 1 mile in the pool over the weekend, and does a cutthroat game of badminton count as XT? I am a little sore from that.

Hope everone has a great day!

I had a rough run today. I did 5.25 miles with a pace of 12:45 - much slower than I have been going. I felt so sluggish and my left foot is still aching for some reason even after taking off a few days. Regardless, I'm getting closer to that 10K.

HI all!

SOrry, I am way behind with my posts. Seminar last week adn still trying to catch up. Scott and I did our 6-miler Saturday. Got out early adn things weren't too bad heatwise. I had nto nerve pain during or after, so we'll take that as a victory. Best I've felt in a very long time. Thinking that eveen if it's not too hot for me, one of my SRs should be a pool run just to keep impact minimized.

I think my legs are finially getting used to the latest heel lift and my orthodics. I think this should be my last DO appt today too! Let's hope I'm now on the raod to being completly healed! On th bright side, it's good to get everything sorted out befor emarathon trianing begins.

For blisters I recommend like others have said second skin - I think Band Aid is making a type of second skin bandaid now it might help. They also are making a blister preventor type roll on that I assume is similar to Body Glide. It helped me when I was in WDW - I always get blisters when I am there!!

Cam & Howard - congrats on the 5k and good luck in the on on Thursday

On last weeks post I did an update and I thanked those who gave me links/help on stretching my calves. My 10 year old neice showed me some too - she is on the gymnastics team. Saturday I only did laps in my sisters pool not too strenous. Yesterday I went out for a 3 mile walk/jog finished it in 38.25 but I think something is off with my milage. Now I don't have a Garmin but I use a cell phone stopwatch timer for splits and I used the same route I used to run last year that I had mapped out on Google pedometer thing and I was sure it was 1.5 miles and then 1.5 miles back. My 1st mile was 11.17, then the 2nd mile was 15.02 and the 3rd was 12.06 - and I know I was slower on what I thought was my last mile (I am now thinking what I am thinking is my second mile is actually longer than a mile) My last mile I had to practically walk all the way back home since my calves tightened up and my feet went numb and I felt like my feet were as big as clown feet - never had that happen before - any advice other then stretch the calves? Other than that yesterday I went in my sisters pool again and stretched my calves and jogged in place. Today I wanted to do 2 miles but I didn't get out this AM so I might have to catch a bike ride if its not raining. Or today could be my day of rest unless Saturday counted for that!! LOL

I don't know if it was just me but I cought a wiff of that poo as you were wrenching it around!!!

OMG Is that new???

:rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Holy cow, you really have to watch what you say around here! :lmao:

No its something lovely the tag fairy gifted me with after I posted on a thread called Poo Watch 2006 - someone had recently moved into an apartment and their neighbors would stick a bag of dog poo by the front door for days before it was presumably thrown in the garbage. She taped a video of her moving the bag around with a wrench - so hence the tag by the tag fairy - I guess I can always remove it - it is kinda gross!!

SWDAve, DIane and SUsan - FYI, I ran Kensington Saturday, so I thought of all of you!!!

Turns out the dog has heart problems and an infection. The vet gave us some meds tha should help.

We went to see the movie "Surfs Up", it's ok but a little to short. The music was good and there were a few really good laughs.

Dave:hippie:

We saw Surf's Up, too Dave. I thought it was really cute.

My left foot and leg are really achy. My chiropractor friend took a look at it today and thought my fibia was out? Don't have a clue what that means, but she used her little adjuster thingie on it. Man, I hope it feels better - I'm so close to completing my program!

HI!!!:hippie: Remember me? I am a lurker now since LTO. Well actually since crazy family members trying to ruin my life took over. Well actually I was out of town most of last week also.

Tonight we had major storms. On our way home from work we were stopped by a tree that fell in the road because it was hit by lightening. DH jumped out to move it and was followed by about 5 other men. It was great to see those men join together during a major downpour to let us folks through the road. I was so proud of DH. Oh and his knee is healing nicely. Today the doctor cleared him for PT and said he was impressed at how quickly he is healing after such a tough surgery. I guess they cleaned out a lot of junk from his knee.

So anyhooo.... 40 minutes on the home dreadmill... which is truely a dreaful mill!!!! I am a bit behind on my CDC training so I need to get my bumper in gear!!!

I haven't caught up on last week, but DH told me I have to check out all the pics that SWDave posted.

Have a great day and I will try to delurk a little more often.
