Wk of June 10--WISH Walking/Running Club

Hey there, sorry I have been MIA, just work has gotten crazy, they let go one of the girls in the office and have no plans to replace her till after the summer and with summer holidays we are so short staffed.

Just wanted to say HI and hope everyones training is going great.

DAVE!!! Love the photos!!!!

Kim

It appears I've hit 100 miles since I started this program!

Way to go Shan! You rock!

MSW Dave- I absolutely LOVE the pictures and the trip report! Please keep it coming! It is a highlight of my day. And, I am so glad that the guys finally got a thong picture! I was going to ask about the blonde woman in the restaurant photo, but I don't want to start trouble with DW. :rolleyes1 Seriously, I am glad that you are having a good trip and stay away from Two Brothers. That area did not look safe.

Dana- I am so glad that you and DS are running together. You are such a good influence on him. WTG!

As for me, no training to report. We celebrated my mom's 61st birthday on Tuesday night and took the kids to an Astros game last night. Tonight I have a cooking class. (Those who know me well will find that particularly hilarious :dance3: ) I hope I don't burn down the kitchen. :sad2: I am hoping to get in some swimming or other XT tomorrow. Back to back runs planned for the weekend to keep up my Goofy training.

Have a great day everyone! :)

Good morning WISH Warriors.

I had a great walk in the sun this morning. The temp was mid sixties which is about as good as it gets this time of year. The humidity was up a bit but I know you guys in Florida and Georgia don't want to hear any whinning about humidity.

Anyway, I did my 4 mile walk on the hills in 49:14. It was the fastest I've done for a week or so but still comfortable. Last mile mostly all up hill was 11:40. My PR for this route is 48:04, I might take a shot and breaking that next week.

We have a store audit today, that should be a laugh a minute.

Everyone have a wonderful day and think healthy.

Dave:hippie: "YARC"

Greetings fellow racing team members - :)

This morning I did 45 min on the TM. 35 at 3.8 and 10 @ 4, all @ 1%.

Alright. I really don't even want to talk about this because I'm starting to sound like a hypochondriac, I know. :guilty: I went to the podiatrist yesterday and he said I have a Stage 2 bunion, which is the good news. It means ambulatory surgery and only - only - four weeks in a surgical shoe. Four weeks would be the minimum I would not be able to train. It would depend on the swelling, he said. He recommends I do it now and get it over with. If I wait there is a chance it could become a Stage 3, which would mean a different operation and six weeks in a cast.

I really don't want to do this. :sad2: Not only am I scared of the operation itself, but being in that damn shoe is SUCH an pain. :headache: I've done it twice before, once for four weeks and once for six! As if that isn't enough, this means Charlie will have to do all the stable chores for at least a couple of weeks.

I suppose I should do it and get it over with so I am totally healed and ready to go in time for Half training.

And to add to all this loveliness, I had my second and may I say extremely painful session of acupuncture for my tinnitus and it made it WORSE! Now the accupunturist thinks this is good news since it means what he did was effective but I am the one that now has to live with this jet engine in my ears 24/7. I'm just about ready to pull my hair out and scream. It has GOT to stop. :sad2:

Karen - Did you get that sort of odd pinched nerve feeling in your leg too? Carrie sent me stretches and I'm going to start doing them right away. It has actually felt much better the past two days. :thumbsup2

Cam - Excellent training! :woohoo:

Andrew - Your day off wears me out just reading about it. :crazy2:

Craig - WOW! That's some split! Excellent! :thumbsup2

Vic - How long were you out of training just recently? I'll have to go at least a month and already I can't stand it. :guilty:

Jackie - Ohh, isn't the view gorgeous from there?

Dave - Oh you are not at all self-centered! You've been keeping us so entertained! Wow, that's winter there? Holy cow, I can't imagine summer! Hey, uhh, Dave? Who took that last picture of you there with the coconut? :rolleyes1

Kristi - Tell us or not, we're going to find it :cool2: and watch!

Shan - Hey that's pretty cool! Congratulation on your first 100! :thumbsup2

Heather - If you learn anything in that class, can you teach me? We obviously will never starve but neither one of us is what you'd call a gourmet. :p

WWDave - Excellent work-out this morning! :woohoo: Enjoy the audit! :upsidedow

Oh Heather, don't go starting trouble there. ;) The blonde woman is just a colleague, I was there with a another fellow too. Definitely nothing I wouldn't share with DW.

My goodness you guys are all starved for entertainment aren't you. Judy, you're just looking to cause trouble too. When you go out on the beach here you are literally assaulted with people trying to sell you stuff, etc. You have to "rent" the beach chairs you sit on. So I asked my friend, Walter, who got me the chair to take my photo. Actually, Walter was pretty impressive. He saw me before my run come out to the beach, and aggressively asked if I needed a chair, etc. I said no, I was going for a run. He was very friendly and spoke good English so we chatted for a bit. I come back about an hour and one half later, and he had already spotted me coming down the street and had a chair and umbrella waiting for me. I guess he earned his $5.

Good luck with your surgery Judy.

Good Thursday mornig TEAM! It's 9am and I'm still in my jammies! lol

Megan - My step daughter is still paying off her student loans, so I feel for you. Hope you have a good day!

Judy - Good luck at the doctors.

Dave - Love your pictures...I don't know how you can run in those temperatures...more power to you bra.

Angie - Blisters, ouch:sad1:

Cam - Special Olympics is a great organization. My niece has been involved w/them since she was child and has made so many friends and has gained self confidence while being a participant. Thanks for helping out.

Mary Kathryn - Your training is really coming along - good job:cheer2:

Kristi - Good luck w/the xray results.

Karen - Hope the hip problem isn't serious

Andrew - Your entry wore me out, you're a busy guy.

Jackie - Welcome back! Did you write up a trip report on the TR forum?

Dave - Have "fun" w/the store audit. Ugh!

As I mentioned yesterday DH, a family friend and I rode our bikes down to Frisco where they had a weekly noon lecture on the history of the area. It was very interesting. Next week's lecture will be on "A Liquid History". Basically the old time saloons that were here.

After the lecture we wanted to take the bus back up to Copper, but the bus only had room for 2 bikes and since DH's back brakes gave out on the way down I suggested that he take the bus and Joseph & I would ride back up the mountain. Boy, was that a killer ride for me. It was the first time I had ever biked up, so it was quite the workout for me. It took an hour to bike up and I'm so happy that I did.

A new women's bible study is starting next Tues. and I think I'm going to ride down again! :yay:

Heather: Have a great time tonight

Judy, Great TM workout. Pixie Dust for you:wizard:

Dave and Monte: Awesome workouts...:woohoo:

Gotta run, be back later

Kim

Dave - Be careful - if you get mugged on a run you may lose points in the "why I should run" battle!

Kristi - Like Judy said, we'll find it and watch anyway. You might as well help us out!

Shan - Congratulations on the 100 miles!

WWDave - I just got back from a RUN this morning - came on the boards to post my progress - read your WALK and had to laugh. My 4 mile run took me 47:55. Guess you'll be passing me?

Judy - Go ahead and get it over with. You don't want it to get worse and take you out of commission for the Half! And yes, the view is gorgeous, but the afternoon we were out there was downright scary. The storms were horrendous - there was actually hail, and we talked to one family who said the lightning knocked out the lock on their cabin in the campground, so it was really close! I was watching it from our balcony facing the Contemporary, but went looking for DH and found him on "your" balcony taking pictures of the storm.

Monte - DD16 (SoccerDogWithEars) has started a trip report, since she hangs out on those boards all the time. I'm thinking about writing my own version but haven't decided if I'll post it or not.

Craig & Martha - Welcome back!

Since I only ran once at WDW and don't have to go back to work until tomorrow, I got up this morning before I start the mound of laundry and did 4 miles. Like I told WWDave, it's only 63 now and overcast, and it's wonderful! It's still humid, but NOTHING like it was earlier this week. I somehow chose a really hilly route - stupid me - so even though my time is the same as Dave's walking time, I feel pretty good. Our group run on Saturday is 10 miles, so that's gonna be a big jump for me after basically 2 weeks off!

Jackie

Ok here is the plan if Judy, aka Queen HoneiBee:snooty: Has the surgery and is unable to walk the ToT race, we put her in a shopping cart and push her through the race. It's only good sense, a Queen can't be pushed in a jogging stroller and we would never find one of those racing wheelchairs.

Another option would be one of those litter chairs like the Egyptian Princesses used. We would just need to hire 4 cabana boys for her use that evening.

Really she should be fine because we are all going to be in a group and keeping a comfortable walking pace.

Now Judy don't you feel better about the surgery? I know this was of great concern to you.

Dave:hippie: "YARC"

Well there's the costume idea you've been looking for :rotfl:

I need some suggestions from y'all who don't like to stop running. My foot's getting worse and I'm concerned about continued training for CDC. I just booked a flight and tickets to the women's soccer game at Soldier Field for DD14 so we'll definitely be there that weekend. Just wondering if I need to DNS the race in favor of trying to heal my foot in time for full training.

What would you do?

Cam- Wow, what a schedule! I hate it when LTO!

Andrew- I totally cracked up at my other brother, Darrell!

Craig- I enjoyed your post. I could relate to the not training with enough intensity. I trained for the Minnie 15K, and then did it totally faster than I had ever trained for. While I survived I would like to train with more intensity for the half, so that I'm in better shape for the distance/speed.

Shan- great job on the 100 miles!

Judy- sorry the tinnitus got worse this treatment. What's next? Will he do more treatments? I was just asking my son how his tinnitus is lately.

Training- nothing yesterday, I just wanted a break. Today was LSD of 6 miles.

Mel

I'm sorry about your foot problems. I forget, but it is the usual PF?

How often are your running? It's true that running is the hardest work and best trainer for a race, but are you mixing in lots of other cardio vascular work? Perhaps you can run less and bike or cross train more and still be fit enough to enjoy Chicago.

I know you've tried lots of shoes but maybe a super cushioned shoe would help you. Out of desparation from injury last fall I went into the enormously huge, cushioned, and expensive Asics Gel-Kinsei and they've really made a difference in my calfs. Not to tempt fate, but it's been 10 months since I last blew a calf and I think the big shoes have made a difference. Recently I ran in Asics Gel-Nimbus and I almost felt like I was running barefoot, totally exposed to injury.

Make the decision you think is best about continuing vs. resting and healing. Sorry that you've come to that.

Or alternatively, since you are a Pharmacist, can't you just prescribe a magic pill or ointment that will fix your problem, and perhaps mine as well?

Stacey

Thanks for joining the club. Good for you holding it in the Minnie, but I suspect a bit more intensity in your training will make the half more fun. Also beware that damn overpass in mile 12. When I ran the new half course and came off the cloverleaf I saw the thing and thought "what fool put that there?"

Take care

Craig

Again...a real quick post...it has started thundering AGAIN! So cannot stay on the computer long.
My WO yesterday was ruined b/c of thunder..not rain (b/c I will run in the rain) but will not start a run in a thunder storm.

My WO today:
A kinda brick WO...with Biking and running...
I biked 1st then ran..and swiched back and forth...here is the breakdown:
Bike: 3 miles (12 min)
Run 1 mile (8.31 min)
Bike 3 miles (12.14 min)
Run 1 mile (8.42 min)
Bike 3 miles (12.30 min)
Run 1 mile (8.53 min)
Bike 3 miles (14 min as a cool down)
It was really hot! and I had to stop off at the house btwn each switch to check on the girls.
But got....
3.09 miles of running
and
12 miles of biking
so thats cool.

Hello. I am new to this & I wanted to introduce myself. I'm Jenny. I was at WDW May26-Jun1. While there, I heard a few people talking about The Marathon in January. I had heard there was one there, but I didn't know there was a 1/2; which I would like to do. So I've been back a few weeks & last week I tried to sign up for the Donald Half. I was so excited because my son (15yrs) could do it with me. Then I saw it was full, as of June 1. The upside is I now have about 18 months to prepare & since I have NEVER been athletic, I'll need all the time & preperation I could get. My son isn't discouraged, He figures we can stay longer and can easliy train fo rhte Mickey Full! This will be something for just us. But I'm not sure about the Full. 26.2 miles is VERY far & jogging for 3 minutes feels like my lungs are on fire!!!! It takes way more than 1 minute to even think about jogging again.

I've read how supportive you all are & I'm so excited. I walked last night for 1 hour 30 minutes. It felt fast, but I'm sure it wasn't. :)

I'll be picking up a pedometer & laying out a route this weekend. I've gotten a few books & my super athletic son to get me going.

I'm excited to be apart of something! & I love to read all of your posts---you all seem to be old friends!!!!

So, Its nice to meet you!

Some of you may remember that I am training and planning this WDW trip as a secret Christmas :santa: surprise for my family. :scared1: With that in mind -- what do I need to know about planning the trip along with the Marathon. We have been to WDW twice previously, so I am somethat familiar with things Disney -- though DH is usually the detail person in planning, so this is somewhat new territory for me. Can I book through central reservations? Disney sports can't do the Disney Dining Plan (and we are BIG food people-- so that's a big issue with me) so I hate to make reservations through them. Will I be able to do the bus to the race start, etc, if I book through Centeral Reservations, or Disney Travel? Do I need some special "secret pass" to get on the bus to the race -- like anyone not running would be out there at 3am?? Also, what are thoughts on my family getting around to where I will be during the race? Tips on how to plan when I will be where?

If this would be better on a different thread please tell me -- I know it's not really training, but it's part of the "full marathon experience" right?

Dona

I just got back. I booked through AAA; they had the BEST prices. Way better than Central Res. I have a TON of info. I'm sort of OCD when it comes to planning things. Feel free to contact me whenever.

Hey team! It's Thursday, which is almost Friday which means the weekend is here.

Judy-Best to get it done and out of the way then it's on your mind less. I find the longer I put off things the worse I build them up in my head. But I know I'd be the same as you if I were in your position so :wizard: and  Oh and you're much braver then I am acupuncture gives me the willies!

MSW Dave-You're making me want to visit Rio although not those pictures of the area under the mountains. I hope you keep making friends they are all so interesting.

I know I missed a ton of people but my mind is mush.

So as for my training I decided to do my two mile run at work during lunch and ended up doing about 3.5 miles in 36 minutes. My first mile was amazing, just so good and I felt great. I think it was about a 9 minute mile. Then I'm not sure what I did but my ankle was just killing me and I ended up with pain all up in my shin. I ran a good amount of the second mile and the rest was just a walk. I misjudged my distance and paid for it as I hobbled back to the office. But I'm going to focus on that magical first mile and try to forget the rest.

I'm off to investigate wearing ankle support on my one ankle till I strengthen it more. If anyone has ever done this I'd love to hear what you wore!

Well, today is supposed to be a 5 miler. I brought my running gear to work so I could head out over lunch as it looks as though a storm is fixing to come in. I opted not to run even though it isn't raining yet. I may run this evening depending on weather, but more likely than not I'm just going to XT. My ankle is feeling OK, but I'm thinking another day off from running might be an OK idea. Just in case...

I have my 10K in Banff this weekend. The weather looks OK in Calgary, but in Banff for Sunday it is supposed to be a high of 46, with rain, at times heavy. I so hope that forecast changes before then...
