Wk of June 10--WISH Walking/Running Club

Nancy--BWV was my first choice but one of the nights we wanted was unavailable in a studio-the 10th I think, and she told me that BC had limited avail. so if we wanted it we needed to book right away. Now I just get to obsess over ADRs and more planning for the weekend! Can't wait!

Well, off to the showers with me, so I can pick DD up from camp on time!

I guess the reason we could get what we wanted is we are not arriving until the 11th.

Have a great time Lily.

The specialty running store where I got my last pair of sneakers is having a big sale this weekend, so stopping tonight to check it out.

Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads.

Nancy

I wanted to tell all the dads Happy Father's Day in case I don't get back on again this weekend. :goodvibes :yay: :goodvibes

DH is running a trail run this Sunday morning so looks like my LR will have to wait until Monday morning. I have to go early, it is just too friggin hot now to run later in the day... :headache:

Anyway, probably a good thing - my left foot feels really sore??? :confused3

Just wanted to give an update and thanks for the welcome back. Yesterday was my cross train day so I rode my bike - I don't know how far (I know more than 3 miles) but I was out riding for a 1/2 hour - and I pretty much pedeled the whole time. This morning I got in a 2 mile jog/walk, started out with a 5 minute warm up walk and then jog 3 mins walk for 2 mins. Only on the last jog/walk did I putter out and only make it 2 mins. I am planning on doing some swimming tomorrow and then a LR of 3 miles on Sunday.

I just need some advice on stretching out my calf muscles as they are getting tight already. I also think I need to get started on some stregth training but I don't know where or how to start.

Tricia

Hi all; happy Friday!

A quick drive-by post to cap off my crazy week. My dad landed in the hospital for a heart catherization and stress test, so I spent 3 days there with him. (Good results; treatable with medicine.) I did get to run yesterday morning, but I think that what I ended up doing may have earned me a membership into YARC. I ran in the rain while talking on my cell phone to make arrangements for my kids after school knowing I'd be stuck at the hospital the rest of the day. I did a short run - 35 minutes followed by a quick temp workout. Today I crosstrained by planting some bushes and then working at DS's school hauling tables in and out for a class party.

Happy training all!
Renee

You know I realize I didn't ever put in my "training stats" from my run this morning. I ended up doing 9.5 miles in 1:45.52/11:08 mpm. The reason I bother to mention this is that I'm surprised I did 11 min miles overall with some major stops for photo taking. Someone was mentioning that I've come a long way in a year, and you know what - I think I have. I can't believe I just easily/comfortably ran almost 10 miles when I did 8.5 miles 2 days ago. What a difference a year makes.
MSDave – Love the photos. That Two Brothers area definitely doesn’t look safe. Please be careful! The steps coming down from that house are CRAZY. Is it hard running on the cobblestone? Glad you got to get in at least a little beach time. Nice new shirt. Enjoy the kayak tour.
Karen- I found out today that the Two Brothers area is one of the largest slums in all of Rio. I'm glad I got out of there. About running on the cobblestones, you don't have to. They built a lane of asphalt next to the cobblestone sidewalk just for runners, walkers, and bikers. It even has an elevated curb to keep the cars out of the way. It's absolutely great to run on. I don't have to worry about cars, and I don't have to run on the cobblestones. I think they'd be too hard on my legs.

Lily- Good luck with the Relay for Life. Have a great time!

Have a great time Lily!

Good luck to all with races this weekend. Howard and I will be doing a 5k tomorrow. My hip is killing me -- I hope it holds up. Major stretching tonight.

Happy Father's Day to all our awesome WISH Dads! :grouphug:

These boats reminded me of the book "Make Way for Ducklings".
DSC00736.jpg
They remind me of the swan boats that used to be next to the castle at MK...anyone remember those, or was I dreaming?

No you are not dreaming there used to be swan boats in the water by the rose garden right outside of Tomorrowland. Not sure how long they lasted but I only remember them by seeing pictures.

Renee - Glad your dad's okay. Your run definitely sounds like YARC material.

Mary Kathryn - New shoes - what fun!

Lily - DD16 did Relay for Life. Her stories and pix were amazing!

Sara - Good luck!

Denny - Welcome to the Carolinas, soon!

Heather - You'll have to share your new cooking knowledge. I could certainly use some new relatively easy recipes.

Stephanie - Congratulations on getting BCV. I kept slowing down at the DVC booths all week, but never actually stopped. I knew if I did, it was all over. I've been toying with the DVC idea for 3 years now, but college tuition is only 2 years away... we asked DD if she'd rather have DVC or college. :confused3

Vic - Glad the foot is feeling better. I thought mine was doing great, but walking around WDW for a week almost killed me. Probably would have helped if I'd worn the orthotics all the time, but those new Disney Crocs were just too cute!

Krista - Great workouts! Is Hines missing his runs, or is he running with Stephen?

Leana - Nice improvement in the race forecast.

Nancy
- Where's Jeanne been?

Hockeymom Jen - :welcome:

Christa - I'm with Stephanie. 8.58 is dragging? I need to send you the pictures that DD took during the MK parade of the Evil Queen! She got a couple of really good ones - she's decided that the EQ is her signature character now (particularly ironic since I've always been mortally terrified of her!)

Judy - Take WWDave up on his offer; just make sure to get out of your "transport vehicle" before the finish line!

Kevin - The Chance story was too funny! :rotfl: A bilingual dog!

Monte - The orthotics take some getting used to. Were you able to go back to sleep after your "dream?" :lmao:

Dave - Another one totally loving the Rio pictures. You may be getting bored with the scenery, but I'm not! And I know what you mean about the difference a year makes. I remember reading everyone's posts about LR's, and thinking "there's no way I'll ever be able to do more than 3-4 miles." I'm going out tomorrow to do 10!

Karen - If you decide to do the LR, I'd do the slow and easy. And STRETCH!

Tricia
- Our Galloway group had a PT talk to us after a run a couple of weeks ago. They just sent us a website with all the stretches on it. Check this out: http://www.theathletesfootrdu.com/ProgressPT%20stretches.pdf

Cam - Good luck tomorrow. Hope your hip is okay.

Probably going to bed soon. Am battling a migraine :headache: , and I need to win the war before tomorrow morning's run. It's either a sign that I'm getting old, or maybe that running rules my life, that I want to go to bed at 9:00 on Friday night!

Jackie

Morning team. Wish I could say that I'm up this early for a nice run, but alas, I'm headed to work in a half hour or so. Hope everyone has a wonderful Saturday. Best WISHes to all those with races and LRs this weekend!

Good morning WISH Warriors and fellow "YARC" members.

I'm taking a rest day today. My stress meter is pegged so I figured I'd just whimper this morning instead.

I still haven't heard the results of my contact lens exam for work, I'm getting butterflies about the Senior Olympics in two weeks. We did pass the aduit at work so that helps, that stress is over.

I'm an optician at a lenscrafters store. If anyone is needing to get new glasses and hasn't got any vision insurance I have some friends and family coupons that will save you 50% off glasses and sunglasses at any Lenscrafters store. Send me a pm if you want one.

I have 26 good miles in for the week so I think a rest day is in order anyway.

Dave:hippie: "YARC"

Kim, the coupons are only good on glasses not contacts, I'll check and see if they are good at Canada stores.

I did it!

I RAN 10 MILES!

The most I'd done before today was 6.7, so I was a little nervous about this one. Woke up migraine-free :woohoo: , set out with the group at 7:00. I felt great at mile 5, then my heel started hurting (it NEVER hurts while I'm running :confused3 ), then at mile 8 I started feeling like this might be tough :worried: , but that feeling passed and I made it all the way.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Awesome Jackie!!!!!!

Now make sure you put some ice on that heel when you get a chance.

Dave:hippie:

Cam and I ran in the Miles for Molly 5K in Wilmington, DE this morning at 9 AM.

Here are my splits:

Mile 1: 7:45
Mile 2: 7:13*
Mile 3: 14:58*

* Not sure if these are accurate, the Garmin only said I completed 2.79 miles of the 3.1 miles. There were a lot of trees on the course and I think the signal was lost and regained a few times. The first mile is accurate though for sure.

I finished in 26:25 overall for a 8:30 pace.

I'll let Cam post her results. She did great as usual. I am so proud of all she does.

Great job Jackie!!! Congratulations! Take care of yourself, rest and relax.

:grouphug:

Howard

Congratulations, Jackie! :woohoo: :yay: :cool1:

This is just a drive-by since I am in my office and dying to get out as quickly as possible.
Oh, BTW, for those insterested, many theatres are doing a sneak preview of Pixar's "Ratatouille" tonight and the 9 minute clip I've seen of it is awesome! So, we are doing a family night trip to the movies. Can I just say how thrilled i am that DDalmost19 is as eager to see this as I am? :goodvibes Did I raise that girl right, or what? Then again when asked what she wanted to do for her graduation celebration last year, she begged for a Disney Cruise! :lmao: Okay, so she had to wait a while, but as you can see from my signature, we are only 34 days away from WDW/DCL!!! :woohoo:

Okay, Howard is too nice. I think my 5k results were abysmal. I am so disappointed that the time was exactly what I did on 5/13. No improvement in the past 4 weeks. :sad1: I worked really hard for this time, too, and still couldn't break 40 minutes.
Overall time 41:56 (according to the clock. I know it took me a bit to cross the start and I forgot to turn off the Garmin at the finish line). My splits:
mile 1 --13:19 (best 9:30)
mile 2 --13:51 (best 11:48)
mile 3 --13:12 (best 8:58)

UGH!
