Wk of June 10--WISH Walking/Running Club

My 30 min run yesterday was horrible! My legs were so sluggish and heavy! It felt like I could barely move. The cold is still hanging on but is getting better. Interesting turn of events at work today. Maybe I should go back to Italy!

Carrie: I do hope you get used to the inserts soon and that the heat and humidity subsides so you can enjoy a run!

Jen: I'd love to post some pictures but can't seem to figure out how to do so here. Everyone else seems to be able to post them in the threads but it just doesn't work for me. If you really want to see them, I'll send you the ofoto link.

Dave & Erica: great job on the run! Erica--make the man work!

Kevin: sorry you missed your run; hope you get it in this weekend.

nepatsfan73: woo-hoo on the walk! Don't worry about the time yet, that will come. I hope your back keeps doing well. If your shoes dry completely, you should be fine. And congrats on the weight loss!! :woohoo:

Vic: I'm sweatin' like a pile of goo just READING what you did! It hasn't gotten that hot here yet (thank heavens) but when it gets that hot, I head for the gym. Love the air conditioned workouts! And, as long as you have a direct hotline to weather control, can you make sure we have fine weather for the Tot?

Terri: 3rd Goofy? I salute you!

Bill: I hope you got in a rain-less run today! Timmy will be 6 months old at the ToT. I do hope we see you then!

Kelly: welcome back! Be sure to listen to your body and don't push it. I will be running the marathon in 2008 and it will be my first marathon. I have no idea how to train for it but I'll give it the old college try!

Laurie: congrats on getting back to running!

I hope everyone has a great evening and happy workout!

Hey Everyone:

I got up at 5am to get my run in before the meeting started. I did 5.02 miles in 46:49 min for 9:19 mpm.

Here's the view when I got up.

I ran on the path on the 4km strip on Copacabana Beach. The sidewalk has the black and white curvy cobblestones on it.

They had this great sand castle built for the Pan American games that will be in Rio in July. I thought my Disney friends would like it.

OK, so here's how nerdy I am. I'm standing on the sand in the ocean waiting for my Garmin to get a signal. Holding my arm up to the sky. Well, I made a new friend. A woman comes walking up to me, asks me what time it is. I actually didn't really know the time because my Garmin had not located a signal yet. So I have this big honkin' watch on, and I have to guess at the time. I say 6:20am. She says something in Portugese. I don't really understand. She says, English. I say American from New York. She says something else, I don't really understand. I say, sorry, I don't understand. She smiles, I smile, and try to mutter some things. At this point she says, do you want some company? :scared1: OK, now she doesn't look like she's ready to run with me since she's dressed in a black skirt, top, and Krista's 4 inch heels. I say no thank you, she apologizes as walks off. I thought it was all pretty funny. Boy, am I naive.

Huh, Dave, I didn't see your new friend in the pictures there. So let me get this straight you are in Rio, getting hit on by a Beach Bunny and want us to think you are working, Huh yea right. :cool1:

Dave:hippie: "YARC"

:rotfl2: Dave, too funny! I guess she thought you were Hailing for something with that arm lifted. :rotfl2: Lovely pics. Enjoy the running, stay away from the bunnies.

marathonmommy, don't worry about those other elitists. We're here and the fun is where we are for sure!

Denny, sounds like a full plate this summer. Don't like it up here in the north then? Hmmm? WISH everything proceeds smootly for you.

Great to read everyone's training reporting. Notice the lack of such in my posts. I'm just finishing up working and watching Cavs BBall game now.

DH and I managed a bike ride after I got home from work yesterday. That may count for something.

Happy training all!

Did a 6 miler with WWDave this morning!!! I had pretty tight hamstings, so I kept it nice and slow!! I had to keep Dave reigned in as he would speed up!

Tomorrow is another day!!!

Erica

:rotfl2: Goin my way sailor? :rotfl2:

I don't know what's funnier, the image of Dave with his arm up in the air like the statue of liberty pretending to know the time or the woman in high heels out trolling for men at 6 am. :confused3 I wonder if she is related to the exotic dancer Kevin met in Toronto on the jogging trail last year? At least she actually did just want to run with him. :rotfl:

SkyDave - Those pics are awesome! You had me :rotfl: with the story...sounds like something really got lost in translation.
BigVic - Florida Hot is hot enough for this Iowan, but African hot...that's hot. Good job on the iron tossin'.
Bill - Hope the weather was more receptive to your running today! Does it not realize to only storm when we are inside and not getting ready to put some miles in?!?:confused3
Krista - Good job with the 3 miler, glad to hear it was pain free. I really don't speak Portuguese or Italian, I just googled translation services and put in Welcome back, and Have a Great Trip from English to Italian and Portuguese. Sorry.
Kelly - Kelly, Welcome back. Pixie dust to continued recovery and your road back to running!
Dana - Great job on the LR! That's great your son is into running at such an early age. That AK 5K sounds cool!
Meghan - Strong Work on the 5 miler!
Kelley - Glad to hear your DH is on the road to recovery! Continued prayers and loads of Pixie Dust!
Carrie - You played it smart by bowing out last night instead of trying to push it if you felt dehydrated. I don't know what the weather is like in Michegan, but here in Iowa it's getting pretty warm and humid (just not African Hot yet).
Megan - Good jobs getting the steps in!
Leana - Sorry to hear the Beerfest was more like a straight to video National Lampoon movie (aren't they all about bad college parties anyway?).
Judy - Congrats to Charlie! I have a coworker that takes a big trip every year to go someplace exotic to scuba dive, she always has these really amazing pics and stories when she returns.
Martha - Glad to hear the trip went well!

Well, I know I have not caught up with everyone, I will tomorrow as I am off the next couple of days. After work tonight, I ran around another part of Iowa City on some bike paths. It didn't extend as far as I thought, so I had to double back a couple off times and got in 45 min of 3r/2w. There were no mile markers, but I tried to keep a pretty good pace on the runs and a brisk walk and estimate 4 miles. More r/w tomorrow before I have to decapitate my grass. Maybe get some fishing in later on as well...maybe.

Happy Training!:yay:

Oh my gosh you guys, all of your posts crack me up!!! Dave, too funny...

I got my 5 mile run in this evening. My old friend from uni didn't get into town until late, so we weren't able to meet up. On the positive side, I did get a good run in. My legs have been feeling a little tired lately (last week....yesterday....) so I took another rest day yesterday, then opted for a slow go on a flat route. Finished my 5 miles in 59:19 for an 11:51/mi. I felt strong the whole way though...except...a couple twinges in my ankle. The bum ankle. I'll keep an eye on it....fingers crossed it isn't anything, except maybe a reaction to the storm that was supposed to roll through later?

Kristi- The Goo Goo Dolls are coming to Houston. I think of you everytime I hear the radio station giving away tickets. Don't forget you have a free place to stay in Houston. ;)
Oh Heather, it is very dangerous to tempt me like that! ;) And I've never been to TX...

Dave - the pictures are absolutely gorgeous! I never had a desire to go to Rio, but I think I do now. If my parents go to Sao Paulo in the fall, maybe I'll have to finagle a way to go along with them... I LOVED the story about the woman asking you the time!

Terri - Chad & I keep talking about going somewhere besides WDW....then we book another WDW trip! Seriously, we are thinking about the Hawaii race in 2009 as a 10th anniversary trip.

Well it finally stopped raining at night. It just did it in the afternoon when I was outside working. So I got drenched then and then had to sprint across a parking lot when I figured that standing in a dry metal box wasn't that great when there was lightening around. :rolleyes1

I did get a run in last night and went 5 miles with a 10:48 pace. It was a little on the humid side. I was drenched after 5 minutes and then Lynnda makes the comment "Is it a little hot out there", she is lucky I didn't shake all over her. :)

Krista - Yes Billy is warming up to the term Big Brother. He will call himself that every now and then. Have no idea what changed but we aren't questioning it. Glad you were pain free during the run.

Vic - Where was the cool weather you were supposed to send down. ;)

Kelly - Glad to hear you are doing better. Good luck with your new program and I wish you success.

Dana - Great job on the runs and your pace looks great. There isn't an age limit that I know of. We took Billy in it when he was 2 and carried him most of the way but he ran in at the end.

Meghan - You are doing great. Glad to hear that you are having fun during training now.

Carrie - As long as you soak up the energy from the running store, you can count it as XT.;) Hope you are feeling better now.

Judy - Glad to hear you are feeling better. Good luck at the doctor. I see you are holding back on us if you can do 20 miles in 26 minutes. I see alot of fame and fortune coming your way with those times. Just remember us when you are the Queen of the Running World as well. :thumbsup2

NEBill - Glad to hear you are losing weight like you want. Keep up the good work. We dry our shoes by placing them on a sweater rack in the dryer and turning the heat down a little. Seems to work great for us.

Stacey - Glad to hear the XT went well.

Renee - Sorry that you lost your post. Alot of people will type it in Word and then just copy it over since that seems to happen alot.

Denny - Congrats on the upcoming move. Be careful of running with Christa since she may want to have you eat her dust if you make the wrong comment. :lmao:

Nancy - I have never known any company to give something away for free. Somehow you always wind up paying for it. :rolleyes1

WWDave - Glad to hear you had a nice walk yesterday and Erica was able to keep you under control.

Kevin - Sorry you didn't make it but there is always next year and after a certain point I think you are in automatically.

Kim - Glad you were able to get everything in yesterday. I find that I am alot slower on the TM. I think it has something to do with the motivation factor that I don't have when I am on it.

Laurie - Congrats on getting outside and training. I hope you are able to do what you want to this summer.

Christa - So you must be the one sending all the rain south. Glad you were able to get something in while the kids were playing, even if it was in the rain.

MarathonMommy - Good luck with your new program. Just ignore the elitists and make sure you have fun with running/walking.

Kristi - Glad you were able to get your DVD in. We used to know some police officers around the Houston area if you go down. That might help with the bail fund a little if they haven't moved by now.

Martha - Sorry the run wasn't the best. We currently aren't planning on taking the kids to TOT since we are just going for the race and party. We will probably head back home right afterwards to save on expenses and babysitters who will travel with us.

MSDave - Sounds like you are having a hard time out there. Your pictures of the beach are more G rated than I would have figured from what I have heard about them. It would have been interesting to see your new friend try to keep up in the heels though.

Lily - Sorry about the Cavs last night but I am a little more partial to the Spurs. Glad you were able to get the bike ride in.

Andrew - Enjoy your time off except that it will probably disappear really quickly if you blink too long.:rolleyes1 Good job on your run yesterday.

Leana - Glad to hear you were able to get your run in yesterday. Sorry your friend didn't show up in time though.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Bill

Morning team. Got another 3 miles scheduled today after dropping DD off at camp. And then Ds and I are heading out to get DH's father's day gift--in case he's lurking I won't give any specifics.

DaveSW--Excuse me sir, might you have the time???:lmao: :lmao:

leana--great job on the run--hope the ankle isn't too sore today

WEll, I should go--DS is letting me know, in no uncertain terms, that he's ready to get out of bed! Have a great Hump Day Wishers!

Hi everyone - I haven't been here in a REAL long time. I started running at the beginning of last year and did a local 5k in April and didn't do to bad (had a 10.30 average in the 5k) and then it got hot here and I just quit!! Every time this past year that I have driven past my run/walk route I get a little sad and upset with myself for not running anymore. For the past 2 weeks I have been thinking about starting again and finally today I was able to get out (I know starting over again at the hottest time of the year am I crazy??) I am following the Couch to 5K plan sort of - I somewhat skipped week 1. I started with a brisk 5 min warmup walk and then 2 mins of jog, 2 mins of walk, 2 mins of jog, 2 mins walk, etc.... I made it approx. 2 miles in 25 mins. My goal is to be ready for either the Race for the Taste 10k or the Tower of Terror 13k - just not sure which one I want to enter (I really would like to do both but I know its not feasible for a number of reasons!!) Oh well at least I feel good about getting out there and getting started. I am sure I will be able to get my encouragement from the "team" here!!

Good morning TEAM! Happy Hump Day! I did my xt last night--30 minutes on the stationary bike on the random hill program, that TOTALLY kicked my butt!! I had 4 hills, 2 tall and steep and then 2 smaller ones, my quads were so mad at me. :) After that I lifted--leg press, leg extension, leg curl, chest press, and the rowing machine. I'm a little sore this morning. :goodvibes Tonight I have 3 miles, going to keep the pace a little slower again since "speed" (and I use that word very, very, very loosely) seems to be the enemy to my knees.

Sky Walker Dave--That is hysterical!!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: No wonder your DW doesn't want you running any more! ;)

marathonmommy--Ignore those people, they are ignorant. I read the boards on Runners World every once in a while, I have learned which threads and posters I need to avoid because they just make me mad. A mile is a mile is mile; the distance doesn't change if it takes you 7 minutes or 10 minutes or 15 minutes. And regardless if you run or walk a marathon, if you win the race or come in dead last--you still get the same medal and the sense of accomplishment. :goodvibes

Carrie--I hope you are feeling better today! The heat is bad here too, it's supposed to get up to 88 today and over 90 this weekend. Stay hydrated! (as I drink a Diet Coke :) )

Andrew--Enjoy your days off! I figured you probably just googled the phrases, but I wanted to give you the benefit of a doubt. :)

NE Bill--Congrats on the weight loss!! That's wonderful!!

FL Bill--:worship: :worship: :worship: I bow to your incredible post!! That was awesome!! Oh, and can you send some rain up north, we haven't had any real rain fall in weeks (just a few cloud bursts that dries up as soon as it hits the ground) and everything is dry and brown. It feels like it's the middle of August, not June.

Leana--Nice 5 miler!!!! Sorry your friend didn't get there in time to run with you. Maybe you can run with Sky Walker Dave's new friend, I've heard she's very friendly! :)

Denny and M'Lisse--Congrats on the move!!!!! :wizard: for your house to sell and :wizard: for finding the perfect house in NC!

Stephanie--Have fun shopping with DS. I'm racking my brain on what to get my dad for Father's Day. Good luck on your 3 miler!

Martha--I hope you are feeling better soon!!!!

Kristi--Why do I have a feeling that Heather is going to have an unexpected house guest very soon?? ;)

Renee--Sorry about the post! I hate when that happens. I always type on here and then copy and paste the post into word before I hit the preview button. I have learned my lesson with that one!

Forgive me for missing some people, but I have to get working as I will be out of the office for about 3 hours this afternoon. The president of the company is on the city chamber of congress and the city is having a chili fest today at the fire department. I have worked the event for the past 3 years and now I get to work it once more. Hopefully it will stay nice and cool, but I doubt it. And who eats chili in Ohio in June anyway???? :confused3

Huh, Dave, I didn't see your new friend in the pictures there. So let me get this straight you are in Rio, getting hit on by a Beach Bunny and want us to think you are working, Huh yea right. :cool1:

I don't think she was so much of a "BEACH BUNNY" as much as a BEACH WALKER (think Street Walker)!! I don't get why she would have been out there at 6am looking for a DATE though. You would think her prospects would be higher at night!!

Bill - Thanks, I was really afraid that I had been promising Michael that if he trained hard for this that he could do it, only to find out that there was an age limit and he was too young.

Well, no running for me today, but I did get out with Michael for his first day of running this week. He did a r3/w1 for 20 minutes, and erally didn't have too much trouble at all. It seems like he is definately getting more comfortable with the running. I can't wait to get him out at the rail trail so I can see how fast his miles are now. I was supposed to do some XT today, but my legs are still a bit sore from Mondays XT and I think I am just going to let them rest after the 1.5 miles we did today. Tomorrow I have 3 miles with speed work, along with another 1.5 miles with Michael. That rain got our week all screwed up.

I have a 15 min break from my conference. Quick drive by everyone... my guess is since I got out there pretty much at dawn she was "finishing up for the night", if you know what I mean. Her work shift probably just ended, and maybe she was looking to add one more job? :confused3

For those of you more interested in the local swimsuits. Here you go...
DSC00658.jpg

Krista- I ate at a restaurant last night called Porcao (pronounced like awwww... poor cow) and it reminded me of O'hana. Lots of skewers of meat coming to the table.
DSC00675.jpg

Kristi- I found out Sao Paulo is the largest city in Brazil, and it sounds pretty industrial. It's about an 11 hour drive from Rio. I can't say I ever had a big desire to come here either. If it weren't for the meeting, I doubt I would be here. But I've been very pleasantly surprised. It's been a great trip so far.

OK, back I go to sit in my conference room.
DSC00668.jpg

Except for running yesterday, I really haven't been able to go to the beach at all. I see it from my window, but it seems so far away. I might have to go over on my lunch break.

Here's my flyby.......

Dave, you crack me up! I would have loved to seen your face when she asked if you wanted company.:lmao: Too funny!

DH and I are getting ready to go on a bike ride (on my new cruiser), to a free lecture in Frisco's Historical Park. It's their summer lecture series that meets every Wed. til Sept. They discuss the old mining days, the lifestyles of late 1800's/early 1900's of Summit Co. Very cool!

Stay away from the beach Dave.:rolleyes1

Greetings -

While there is a conspicuous lack of training reported in this post, I am pleased to say I am almost, almost pain free. Except for the right foot, but I am going to see the podiatrist today. I'm pretty sure, if I remember correctly, it was two months in the stupid surgical shoe. I really think I'm going to have to put this off until after the Half. But, we will discuss that today. :wizard: (Can you give yourself Pixie Dust??)

Dave - OMG! :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2: You are too too funny! Thanks for the gorgeous pictures. And way to go on training while you're away! :thumbsup2

marathonmommy - Please. Don't listen to those knuckleheads. :headache: And PLEASE do NOT compare yourself to ANYONE. You know how there's always going to be somebody with a bigger house, who makes more money, who drives a nicer car? Well, there's always going to be somebody faster then you. And me. And everyone. But you know what? Who cares! You do your best and be proud. And if that means running, jogging, walking, wheeling, crawling...it doesn't matter. This is all about YOU. And yes, we all love WWDave. ;)

Heather - I agree! I don't know what is funnier either! Was she walking on the sand in those stilettos, I wonder. And why is it we do that anyway, hold our arms up in the air? Charlie and I do the same thing. Like the Garmin's not going to get the signal if our arm is two feet lower. Geez.

Andrew - Yeah, we go to exotic locales so Charlie can dive too. Orlando. Hee hee. He's actually working on his Dive Master Certification.

Bill - I can't really take all the credit for doing those 20 miles in 26 minutes. I had help. :boat:

Good morning fellow social outcasts.

Erica had a staff meeting this morning so I walked by myself. I wasn't into a hard one today so I just did my 4 mile hill route at a pace I felt like I could keep all day. Just got lost in the music and glided along. Time was 54:10.

HoneiBee:snooty: , you are exactly right about people making a ritual out of locking the garmin to the heavens, like it's a devine act. My darling DW drives me nuts with her's. She will spend 5 min piddling with her iPod and then holds the garmin up to get it ready. I keep telling her, just turn the garmin on and by the time you have the iPod ready the garmin will me ready to. No, she has to perform the ritual seperately.

She is a gadget girl to, for a 6 mile walk around the park trails where we are only about at the most a half mile from the bathrooms, water fountian and the jeep, she will have the following:

2 Pair of shorts, a compression pair and a loose pair or a skirt.

A belt pack with a 32 oz water bottle, snacks, gum,

Sports Bra T-Shirt

Watch Garmin

iPod

Phone

hair scrunchy

A hat or visor

and of course socks and shoes.

Now I'm going to head off to work because when she sees this post she will probably think up an new and interesting way to make me suffer for it.:guilty:

Y'all have a great day.

Dave:hippie: "YARC"
